Agreed the David White 4 goal display for Man City was devastating but there again Villa were poor that night - April 1991 wasn't it?

Another performance not mentioned yet was Regi Blinker for Sheffield Wednesday in the mid 90s - I think the score was 2 - 2 and he scored both for them and looked like a world beater!!

mind plays trick on me, i always thought White got all five that night. Who got their other? Quinn?

Blinker played like Pele that night. Beat Charles, Ehiogu AND Macca for his first goal

Rod Stewart played well at Villa Park summer of 1995. Luckily we'd avoided the drop by then so pressure was off and crowd turned up to enjoy the atmosphere.

John Barnes put in one or two brilliant displays at VP.

George Boateng was brilliant for Coventry when they beat us 4-1, he's best perfromance at VP by some distance.

Chris Waddle in our 2-0 defeat at White Hart Lane in 88-89 - scored two brilliant goals and looked world class.

We played Ipswich at home one night in a cup match.  I think we beat them 6-2 and one Dalian Atkinson playing for them scored a superb chipped goal - anyone remember that?

Going back to Ian Wright - wasn't that the match when after he scored, he gave a bit of stick back, but then ended up giving his shirt to some people in the crowd behind the dug out? Doug Out. *waves red card* *waves £ sign* *walks and chants a bit*

It was Cruyf for Barcelona, i have never seen 1 player so dominant and instrumental in a team. It was genius, he got a pretty good reception from VP when he walked off.

Cruyff by a long way.

Very few oppositon players get a standing ovation when they are substituted.
only just seen this as i just posted. In fact i have never seen any one play better, villa stopped trying to tackle him because they could not get near him, i remember him beating players while directing his team mates as i said pure genius

Is there any video footage of Cruyff at Villa Park or were ITV busy covering Derby County that night?

It reads like he's edited the entry himself.

I think you're right. My memory is a bit flaky, but I used to sit behind the dugout at that time, and I remember him coming off with a couple of minutes left and I and many others gave him a standing ovation, to which he responded by applauding us.
The season before he'd been getting murderous stick off the Holte because he was missing the Cup Winner's Cup final through suspension, and then went and stuck the winner in at that end in the last minute.

I'll say this for him, he used to take some stick but always took it the right way.
