Not as such, MLB has a 'Luxury Tax'

There's an upper salary figure which, if exceeded, leads to financial penalties.

Basically the system means that if a team has money, they can spend it but they'll be financially penalised for doing so.

I’m in San Francisco for some games. Having watched Devers play live since he was with AA Portland, it’s weird seeing him in a Giants jersey.

After struggling to reach the giddy heights of 'bang average' for most of the season, somehow the Red Sox won ten games in a row up to the All Star break.

They're now only one game behind the Highlanders and two games behind the Blue Jays in the AL East.

I've subsequently been to several games at RFK Stadium & Nationals Park in DC and saw a couple in Sacramento last month.

I've now seen Major League Baseball in 45 different stadiums

The only current stadiums that I haven't 'collected' are the new ones in Arlington (Texas Rangers) and Cobb County (Atlanta Braves).
