Have you been to where the Rays are playing this year?

I've visited Steinbrenner Field, but haven't seen a game there.

The Rays are about to be sold to someone who plans to keep the team in the Tampa/St Pete area.

From a spectator's perspective, The Trop was never as bad as it was made out to be.

However, I still think that the best place for the Rays is northern New Jersey (not that the Yankees would ever agree to that)

I had for the first time in my life interest in baseball. It lasted about 10 seconds but it was special. A pitcher appears to take one straight to the temple of his head which could/should kill him but in fact he somehow managed it catch it. Amazing reflexes, muscle memory, etc.

Okay, as you were..

Don't they sometimes play in Japan? Think UKRS should have to do all those grounds, too. 🙂

I'd love to go to some games in Japan.

Several years ago, the Red Sox were scheduled to open the season in Japan.

I contacted the team to see if they were running any supporters trips and was told that there were not.

Therefore, I went ahead and booked a trip to the USA.

Within a few days of doing so, the Sox contacted me to say that they'd changed their mind and were going to run a Japan trip.
However, my money was spent by then  :(

The Bananas used to be a proper team but morphed into baseball’s Harlem Globetrotters, with the Party Animals being their Washington Generals.

In other weird baseball news, today sees the debut of John Oliver’s Erie Moon Mammoths makeover of the Erie Seawolves.

https://www.mlb.com/news/john-oliver-erie-moon-mammoths-preview

The Mammoths’ opponents, the Chesapeake Oyster Catchers (actually the Baysox) are another great story

Quote
The Moon Mammoths' opponent, the Chesapeake Oyster Catchers, come with their own funny backstory -- although humor was not the initial goal. The moniker is an alternate identity for the Chesapeake Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Orioles. The Oyster Catchers temporary rebrand was intended as a salute to a shorebird known as the American oystercatcher, but the announcement went viral when internet users saw in the logo a resemblance to an element of human anatomy.
The team turned the awkward moment into a win for everybody, using the Oyster Catchers identity to raise funds for cervical cancer education and advocacy. Oliver covered the story during his initial segment on the Minors, praising the club for its solution to an optics issue that otherwise might have gone down as an embarrassing misstep.

Most Minor League teams do temporary re-brands, but most just feel like ways to rip off fans with overpriced merchandise. However, Erie and Chesapeake seem to be doing it for the right reasons

The Phanatic is the best sports mascot of them all

Sometimes getting caught on camera at a baseball game is a good thing
