There's also the advantage that users of steroids and HGH get in terms of recovering from injuries and delaying/reducing the effects age related wear and tear.

The 1990s and early 2000s were a period when many older players were having unprecedented success. The fact that there are no longer so many successful players in their late 30s is a good indicator that many of those who enjoyed success during the "Steroid Era", wouldn't have still been in the game without chemical assistance.

It appears that as far as the media and public are concerned, use of steroids/HGH only really matters in baseball. There's nowhere near the outrage when a NFL or NBA player tests positive.

IMO this is because people view baseball as something that they could do themselves if they'd had a bit of luck or a bit more talent. The players are (apart from the odd physical freak and steroid user) the size of the man in the street. NFL and NBA players however are just so much bigger than most people that its hard to relate to them.

There's also the fact that statistics and the way they they're affected by P.E.D. use only matters in baseball. Very few people can quote NFL or NBA stats, but most sports fans Stateside would immediately know what was meant by "714", "755" and "61" without even having to explain the context.

Not to repeat all that has been written, but MLB loved that big hit homerun stuff, and encouraged by not discouraging the drugs.  The bigger the hits, the bigger the ratings.

But the other side is a LONG grueling schedule, with teams full of guys who used up most of their energy getting out of triple A ball.

The avg juicer isn't Big Papi and Arod, it's some journey man pitcher on his 10th season or some utility player who knows the minute that shoulder or knee causes him to miss a game, it's all over.

Anyone who has even just experimented with any Test (not hgh, that stuff just builds size) knows that the stuff will make you do ANYTHING better.  The stuff will even improve your eye hand coordination and bat speed.  you could bench press every single day and not be sore.  Stuff is amazing.

Unfortunately like all great things, it kills you as well...

CC needed to drop some pounds to help hime carry the dead weight that is the rest of the Yankees starting rotation.

Forget "Spahn & Sain and pray for rain", its "Sabathia and Hughes then we get the Blues". I'm not that sure about Phil Hughes either.

Even Keith Olbermann is pessimistic about the 2011 Highlanders

Albert and his agent have stuck to their deadline and called of talks for the season.

Apparently, the Cards' offer to Pujols was below the amount paid to A-Rod, Mauer, CC, Ryan Howard and Cliff Lee.

St Louis are taking a real risk here. Albert could quite easily end up with the Cubs if the Cards act cheap

The media over here keeps mentioning Pujols coming to the Cubs if nothing happens with the Cards, do you think they have linked them together because of the rivalry and to put the Cards front office under pressure or can you see him actually playing in the North Side of Chicago?

I'd be happy if he came North but can't see it happening!

It's a process of elimination really. If you look at the clubs that might interest Albert and then consider their First Base set up...............

Highlanders - Teixeira on a long term deal
Phillies - Howard on a long term deal
Red Sox - Gonzalez on a long term deal that should be announced on or around opening day
Mets - Club and ownership in chaos due to the Wilpon's involvement with Bernie Madoff
Dodgers - Club and ownership in chaos due to the McCourt's divorce.

That leaves one club with a vacancy at First Base, money to spend and a new owner looking to make a big signing.................. the Cubs

Albert Pujols is such a classy player, St Louis need him more than he needs them.

I love that sketch, well the Cubs have to see how Pena gets on this season and they are clearing some wages off the payroll at the end of 2011 so maybe he will move to the Cubs.
