It's not a sport though is it?

Yes it's highly skilled, yes they are doing stuff that none of us could ever dream of being able to do and yes I suppose it's very entertaining if you are into muscled, sweaty men hugging but it's not a sport.

To be fair Dave I think the WWE announced years ago that it was ceasing to sell the 'it's real' concept and rebranded themselves as Sports Entertainment.  This had something to do with a tax they were being forced to pay in some States that was essentially a tax on live sporting events - this helped them get round that law.

It is just that entertainment.  I like it because it takes me away from reality and genuinely makes me laugh for a couple of hours a week before having to look outside again to see it pissing down.

As for Benoit - what a shock.  If there was one wrestler who you wouldn't associate with such a horrific scene it was him.

Gonna stomp a mud hole in him and walk it dry.

Gonna treat him like a government mule in an undoubted slobberknocker.

Benoit was extremely popular with older fans, he was to the WWE what Paul McGrath is to Villa fans

You must be joking.

McGrath was a complete one off as a player and a person, whereas wrestlers are as replaceable as actors in a soap. Their 'skills' are interchangeable and are performed by most 6 year olds in their living room.

I can't imagine the state of you when Mike Baldwin pegged it.

Benoit was a one off as well, he trained with the Hart family and the Guererros and was the only proper wrestler left in the WWE. He will never be replaced the same as Owen Hart or Eddie couldn't be.

I no Bobcat and the thing which is even worse is he will not get his place in the HOF where he belongs!

Yes, that's obviously the worst thing to come out of this story.

Have we moved onto euphemisms for gay sex now?

Surely a game (it's not a sport) that involves heavily oiled beefcakes in  costumes and tight fitting pants grappling with each other can in no way be linked with anything remotely 'gay'?

Shame on you Dave.

I presume that the people who like wrestling on this thread are under 12 years of age?
Why does everyone have that view on wrestling. I doubt not one of you could do what they do! Not one (and don't do any lame "kill your wife/kid" pun)

I couldn't do 6 weeks over xmas in Panto either, what does that prove? I'm too tall to play a dwarf so i guess it proves i'm too tall to be a dwarf.

I find wrestling a bit sad, but if people enjoy it as entertainment, like watching theatre, then fine.

But please don't describe it as a sport and feature it on Sky sports News.

So you lot can't stand wrestling - why are you forcing your opinions on people who do like it and want to talk about what happened ?!?

I don't think you've quite got to grips with the concept of a discussion board have you?

Yes, i am here to talk about Chris Benoit's death - which is the title/point of it. You are using this thread to patronise people who enjoy this form of entertainment because you think it's fake....

You don't like it, fair enough. Other ppl want to discuss what happened, not your "it's fake" debate...

If you think it's fake watch the link i posted above, it's a highly skilled form of entertainment...

Yes it's highly skilled, yes they are doing stuff that none of us could ever dream of being able to do and yes I suppose it's very entertaining if you are into muscled, sweaty men hugging but it's not a sport.

If Darts or Snooker is a sport, then yes it is !
