excited - Angel - just watched video clips over and over again from River Plate and was really looking forward to seeing him play.

most disapointed was Djemba Djemba, he was a huge flop at old trafford and even worse at Villa

Deano, Merse, Angel.
And though it could be a thread all of its own, 'the player we signed who has over delivered' then my vote goes to Merse for running the show, week in, week out. Pure quality and audacious with it. Though I was excited, I did wonder at the time if we were getting him too late. How wrong.

I honestly, truly and categorically believe him to be the single most over-rated player we'd ever had. Run of the mill game against mediocre opposition, he was a star. Big game it was Merse....Merse...anyone seen Paul Merson? And a fifth round FA Cup tie at home is not a big game.

Is it sad that I got excited at the signing of Richard Dunne?

I was annoyed at Downing's signing (at the time) because I was confused as to why MON would sign a player that's got a broken ankle and will be out until the end of the year.

David Ginola.

Then he was constantly benched. Waste of expectation.

Wow, Well I never, how two people can see things so differently. I'll go away now and come back when you can think more clearly *wink*

Well don’t get so surprised badluckeric because I pretty much agree with DW. When Merse wanted to turn it on he was great, but I remember him receiving more than his fair share of moans and groans from the fans. And rightly so, on a number of occasions he just didn’t show up and put in a shift.

I do think he was amazingly talented and the one player who on his day we miss more than any other. But his day wasn't that often.

You could be talking about Dalian there.

…and isn’t it sad to think that Merson was ten years ago, and the only player since who has been able to get the crowd excited and provide us with a flash of brilliance has been Ashley Young. Or am I missing somebody obvious?

They were different class. Merson on his day was very good. Dalian on his day was the best.

With the obvious exception of Mark Kinsella.
