Was saving the stat so I didn't tempt fate.

Quote
This would be just the third time that Aston Villa have come from 2-0 down away from home to win in the Premier League, and the first time since April 2005 vs Southampton.

I've had a shit day and was already in a bad mood, so I turned it off at 2-0 and just checked the match thread occasionally.

I deliberately didn't put it back on or comment as I didn't want to jinx anything.

You're welcome!

Anyway, up the flippin' Villa!!!

Excellent, after an exceptionally ropey start got control towards the end of the 1st half and then pretty much controlled it 2nd half. We are to Brighton what Palace are to us, fucking kryptonite. Special mention to Ollie, he was immense tonight.

Bring on the Arsenal.

Chaotic performance on the surface, but we had much more in our locker.

Bizot doing a Greek tragedy in reverse.

Amazing win. Sometimes games just don’t go
your way and although we were poor at the start of the game everything just fell for them.

It’s just part of football that those games get away from you. Especially against a good and hard working team like Brighton away.

Incredible to drag that back. To do it while rehabilitating Ollie is perfect.

Other results going our way currently too! Dreamland!

No complaints from me about tonight.

We know what to expect from Unai and Villa's game plan.

Keep it quiet and tight in the first 45.
See what they're up to. Review and make changes at HT or from 55-60 mins on.

Run out winners.

3rd in the table having played 9 matches. (I'm not counting the first 5 - we didn't turn up).

3 points
Watkins finds his shooting boots

To be fair he was a lot better in second half. Close to scoring first and fourth goals. But when he gets the ball with his back to goal near the sideline, he really struggles. That's a problem with Cash far from comfortable on the ball at times too.

I was watching on my phone and had trouble seeing the run up to the fourth goal. It looked like our player flicked on to Ollie who was in an offside position when he nodded it toward the goal which led to Malen's finish, but was it a Brighton player who got the touch to him?

Hard one to give ratings, we mixed the sublime with the ridiculous. Rogers sums it up

Bizot 6 - nowhere for first but did well at end. Decent distribution. Should be playing him more in EL to keep him sharp.
Cash 7 - solid again defensively and set pieces caused huge problems including for Onana's goal
Konsa 7 - solid display again, unlucky not to score
Torres 6 - started playing after the own goal, very ropey start
Maatsen 7 - similar to Torres maybe, excellent assist and unlucky not to get a penalty. Took ball into contact too often
Kamara 6 - mixed enough display. We got the run around in midfield in the first half
Onana 6 - pretty much hid in the first half but a huge weapon for set pieces in the second
Guessand 6 - much improved after half time, nearly there for a few goals. Getting in right positions anyway
Rogers 7 - seemed to be trying to break a record for losing the ball in the first half. Then launches an inch perfect assist from deep in our half. Simple pass to put Malen through and overhits it. A freak.
McGinn 7 - struggled to get into the game early on, not his best position for me but much more in it after half time
Watkins 9 - a night of redemption. Destroyed them. After a poor miss early on too.

Digne and Bogarde were very good off the bench I thought. Malen scored with his first touch. Tielemans was ok. Buendia only on late.

Emery 9 - an outstanding night. Faith in the squad vindicated and particularly in his main man Ollie Watkins.

Was saving the stat so I didn't tempt fate.

Quote
This would be just the third time that Aston Villa have come from 2-0 down away from home to win in the Premier League, and the first time since April 2005 vs Southampton.

Also Spurs in 2000 - was there for that one

It feels like teams come from 0-2 down quite regularly, especially if you're from Manchester and are playing a Birmingham team. I was trying to think the last time we come from 0-2 down, I was at Southampton in 05, surely not???

I thought squeaky bum time was a thing of the past.  We lost a bit of focus for a minute and got punished but as squeaky bums go, it was a mild case. MOTM I'm giving to Rogers, not that he was the best, they all played their part. It was for the massive improvement he showed tonight, completely focused for 96 minutes.

Their first shouldn't have been a corner and then Bizot was fouled. Their second was a lucky own goal. Their third was a good strike.

We just found a way to win, 4 good goals (one v scrappy one) inside the box.

We're on fire. We're 4 points clear of 5th and a win on Saturday puts us 3 points off top spot.

Brighton fans are having a meltdown about us on sm. Apparently we are diving whinging cheats who influenced the ref to give everything in our favour which is quite a coincidence because that's exactly how I described them on our WhatsApp group last night. But obviously I'm right and they're wrong. I challenged one of them about their first goal not being a corner and he said "that's football sometimes they get it right and sometimes they get it wrong" I didn't reply I just left him to consider that he might just be using double standards in his argument. Oh and they have a strange hatred for Unai Emery. God knows why as he hardly ever complains about wrong decisions and I've always found him to be a likeable chap even when he was at Arsenal.b

None of them seem to realise that they're 1 bad season away from being Wolves/Swansea/Leicester/etc.

Oh I totally agree. Social media is not a place to judge a fanbase or anything else really.  Brighton fans in general are a decent bunch. Went there a few years back and met some good lads. We invited a group of them up to the Villa Tavern a couple of seasons ago and we had a top day from the bits I can remember.

They also collude with the Sky 6 as they are happy with the status quo. They know their lane 14th to 7th and a possible cup run. Happy with that and keep the money flowing so they have the advantage over bigger teams in the championship. It inhibits us newcastle and possible Everton moving up a notch.

I posted the same on the Emery thread. We're showing flashes of our best football now but haven't really put it all together as much as we can. Last night and Bournemouth we had about half an hour of looking untouchable and if we can get 45minutes-an hour of that a few times in the next moth or so I think we'll start being talked about s genuine title contenders.

I love it when other clubs fans hate us. Hoping that little Arsenal twat with the headphones is having a Sunderland style meltdown on Saturday.

You don't aspire to be everyone's second favourite team, like Newcastle are? Weird.

Attila the Stockbroker

Quote
Aston Villa are a really good side. We splattered them at the beginning and went 2-0 up, then they absolutely walked all over us for 70 minutes and scored 4, then the Best Looking Dutchman scored an absolute screamer and they managed to hold out. For neutrals, a wonderful game. For, us, well, entertaining bollocks, but another time when I think of the worst of times  and reflect on how far we’ve come. 🙂

I saw the Atilla the Stockbroker post earlier and thought it was very generous and fair. As usual the Brighton fans I spoke to were all decent and annoyed at their manager for not making other changes. I also didn’t realize they have a few injuries , eg Matoma, Wellbeck.

Support last night was very good and I think the fans chanting Ollie’s name last night after that weak side footed effort at 2-0 helped him.

Not including us (twice), Brighton are undefeated at home since January.

They must hate us.
Just had a look at a Brighton forum and they're quite complimentary about our fans and they really rate Rogers but other than that yes, they can't stand us lol
Not very happy bunnies are they

Attila performed some of his poems after a H&V outing at the Bartons a while ago. They were excellent and he was a good guy.
