Bogarde can count himself unlucky I suppose, but it's squad rotation. He'll be back in within weeks when Onana gets injured.

Not sure I’d go with either Onana or Guessand but Unai always has a game plan. Presumably to keep it tight and expand from the bench!

Agreed, strange enough selection. Onana won't be lasting 90mins anyway so I'd expect Bogarde will get at least 20mins. Not sure again by Digne at left back. We have the options to change things.

Yeah we badly miss Ollie though. We can’t build anything in the final third.

Agreed.  We are playing so well, we've had one shot, not on target and hardly had a touch in their box.

Onana for me is summed up by the Everton game at home early last season - went down from a nothing challenge and led to them scoring.  He’s been pretty much meh ever since

Aged 23 years and 85 days, Morgan Rogers has become the sixth-youngest player to record 25 Premier League goal involvements for Aston Villa (12 goals, 13 assists), and the youngest since Christian Benteke in August 2013 (22y 257d).

This ref is letting their number 7 and Palinha foul with impunity.  They tried to rough us up the last time we played them too.  They’re not a great side I don’t think, and this is winnable.

I think Evann has been alright .   Hassled them a bit , was in the build up of our goal, great tackle near the end  . Malen hes not a striker , so put it down to that , play him where he was against Burnley. Onana needs to do more .  Still think we can win this.

And we need someone good on the ball , get Elliot on.
Title: Re: Spurs v Aston Villa Match Thread

Been OK.  Conceded a really poor early goal and have given possession away far too easily, far too often, but have pressed them well.

They don't look full of ideas though and I think we can win this if we step it up a bit in the second half.

We can win this, we have the midfield for sure, just need to use it, very good goal from Rogers, Guessand playing well, you just know he's going to convert before long, Onana worrying, have to say it this game scream Sancho to come on and win it, he's got it in him to score, somewhere and he needs to earn his corn, Maatsen on, all in all going well for Villa and we can win this.

The bit that concerns me - and I think part of it is Don as the lone player up top - is we struggle to produce good chances. We play ok and then it falls apart in the final third. It takes a wonder strike for us to score, we need to produce a higher volume of chances.

The bit that concerns me - and I think part of it is Don as the lone player up top - is we struggle to produce good chances. We play ok and then it falls apart in the final third. It takes a wonder strike for us to score, we need to produce a higher volume of chances.

We aren’t really playing to his strength tbf.. have we slotted a single thru ball to him today?

No, but that’s in part because we can’t get up the pitch because no one is holding it up.

The very least he needs to do is occupy their centre backs and he's hardly done any of that either.

Superb goal from Morgan, but this is a very poor Spurs team defensively and we have only put one decent ball into the box, also Malen has not had a decent ball fed to him yet.

They've got the 2nd best defence in the league so far this season.

This is why I'd puh rogers a little wider and Guessand up front so he can do that work and have Malen play off him.

I'd go the other way, if McGinn comes inside they're both on their strong foot.

This feels very Villa.

Few seconds to go, Kolo Muani runs through on goal, Emi saves with his leg and pumps his fists like in 2022.

That's how someone would script it.

I have been a harsh critic, but he has improved his physicality and has looked very good. Fair play to him.

A few weeks ago Wolves were heading above us with until a last minute goal by Spurs, we are now 10 points ahead of them.
