Was hoping the manager would be bold and pick Kodjia. He hasn't. Let's hope the goal gives Wes confidence to start scoring again in the league. We go again
-
This manager is not for turning.
-
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EMUKfn9WkAAdxb-?format=jpg&name=large)
No LeTissier or Shearer for them which helps.
-
Win please.
-
Play 4 across midfield, Wesley up top and Jack floating between the 2.
-
I worry for that midfield.
Weak as piss defensively.
-
Play 4 across midfield, Wesley up top and Jack floating between the 2.
How long have you been watching Dean Smiths Villa?
-
He's a stubborn so and so is Deano.
Kodjia should be starting this.
-

No LeTissier or Shearer for them which helps.
Shane Long worries me.
-
That's tough on Kodjia.
-

No LeTissier or Shearer for them which helps.
Shane Long worries me.
Those last 3 worry me, there's goals there if we aren't bang at it.
Still think we'll win, maybe 2-1.
-
Wesley
Fucking joke.
-
Hard to see it being a 0-0. Long and Ings worry me, although promising that a few of their players seem to be out with a virus.
We should score a few today.
Not sure about Hause at CB, prefer him at LB.
-
Gonna try to cram 4 central midfielders into a 4-3-3 again, huh?
Hopefully it works out this time. If we don’t get three points today I’ll be pretty angry at full time.
-
He's a stubborn so and so is Deano.
Kodjia should be starting this.
Agreed. DS stubborn as fuck, sincerely hope it doesn't come back to bite us.
-
I was really split minded about Wesley today.
I think if he hadn’t scored midweek, I’d have started Kodija. But as he scored, it’ll be important to try and keep his confidence up. I reckon he’ll score today too though.
There’s arguments that really we should probably play both of them at the same time. But I think* it’s the right decision.
*i think? Normal disclaimer applies. Just my opinion. Probably a bad one. Time will be the judge. Etc...
-
FFS we have another limited manager.
Lose this and Dean can ring his own taxi.
-
I don't see much in their team to worry us but then I don't suppose they see much in ours either. They're probably delighted Wesley's playing. Time for him to step it up and make a name for himself.
-

Yeah, I hope not, mate. We need a win.
-
A must win, we lose to Southampton or Watford and Norwich, it says one thing, we are in a relegation battle, come on Villa.
-
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EMUKfn9WkAAdxb-?format=jpg&name=large)
No LeTissier or Shearer for them which helps.
Shane Long worries me.
Has about 10 goals in his last 90 appearances including none this season. If Shane Long is worrying us it's all the one.
Very attacking midfield . Did the trick v Newcastle but Southampton will hardly be as naive.
-
Smith is starting to piss me off - could have gone two up front or at least started with Kodija .... but what to I know as Wesley scores a hateful ...........oh and Santa exists ;)
-
Perhaps Smith isnt stubborn but has a plan and sticks to it which is something we havent done for years.
-
Perhaps Smith isnt stubborn but has a plan and sticks to it which is something we havent done for years.
We don't know the outcome yet of course, but if the plan fails, it's shit management regardless of his integrity or intentions.
His job is to preside over wins, not "have a plan and stick to it".
-
AVTV audio commentary not working!
-
Perhaps Smith isnt stubborn but has a plan and sticks to it which is something we havent done for years.
You'd hope he has several plans.
-
Perhaps Smith isnt stubborn but has a plan and sticks to it which is something we havent done for years.
Unless you have some of the best players in the world, no good football manager sticks to just one style of play for every match because all that happens is the opposition play to nullify and counter it. Which seems to happen at half time if not from the start at the moment.
Even fergie would play with 9 behind the ball if he thought it would win him matches in Europe and hit on the break.
-
Ill in bed. Where is the best coverage please?
-
SJM looking fucked
-
McGinn injury doesn’t look good
-
And he’s apparently been carrying an injury and we haven’t really rested him. This doesn’t bode well.
-
FFS
-
McGinn looks like a nasty injury. You could see the impact on his shin when he landed. Horrible.
-
That's a blow. I thought he should have had a freekick just before he got injured.
-
Looks fucked
-
Anyone watching via the internet who'd care to share information with me?
-
Poor so far
-
If anybody has a decent link to PM that'd be grand.
-
El Ghazi has started very poorly.
-
Judging by the reaction, that ain't good ffs
-
We’ve started slowly/poorly and lost McGinn. Awesome
-
Can't get out of our half
-
Who’s replaced SJM?
-
Looking like bad selection decisions and tactics (again)
-
McGinn needed a rest. Not the best way to get it mind.
-
Who’s replaced SJM?
Marvelous
-
Who’s replaced SJM?
Nakamba
-
McGinn has been playing far too much without a rest. Not too surprised he's got injured.
-
If anybody has a decent link to PM that'd be grand.
Releasesky
-
Too many hoofballs and not enough movement. We look half resigned already... need the win more than ever today to give some confidence moving forwards.
-
Who’s replaced SJM?
Marvelous
No no who replaced McGinn not how good he is.
-
Given both defences are hopeless, you'd expect a hatful of goals in this. So, what's the odds on a 0-0 draw?
-
Yeah I'd be surprised if this was unrelated. Played him crocked and one sided for weeks, not he's done for the christmas fixtures. Braindead.
-
Anyone watching via the internet who'd care to share information with me?
Just sent a PM
-
Best move of the day. We should have done better.
-
El Ghazi should have done better. Difficult finish though.
-
El Ghazi, you idiot!
-
How did we not score there? They are encouragingly crap at the back, mind.
-
I don't think AEG did badly there. Did well to get a shot away.
-
By my reckoning, they lost 9-0 to Leicester, we lost 4-1. That’s a 6 goal delta. Stick me down for us to win 8-2 or us to get 1 and them to get -7.
-
Conversely, they should have done better there. A let off.
-
Fucking Norwich beating Wolves.
-
Close there for them.
-
I don't feel good about us at the moment. No swagger at all, players look terrified.
-
Fucking hell Wesley you have to do better. Fuck me
-
Wrap your foot around it, Wes!
-
And then Wesley should have done better.
This seems to be one of those games I’m afraid!
-
Good chance for wesley
-
He doesn't want to score does he, that was meat and potatoes for any front man.
-
That was so shockingly bad by Wesley. I think I could have done better than that
-
We're down
-
Fuck off
-
I felt quite positive before kick off. Now I am thinking it's going to be a long afternoon. We need a win, why are we not playing two up front?
-
FUUUUUUUCCKKKKKKK Ings
-
That ****** Le Tissier celebrating on sky. Wanker.
-
Fuck off engels. Shit defending
-
Shit
-
Smith is failing here. Shocking selection, players look clueless and devoid of confidence.
-
Targett really is slow.
-
Tell you what, in a very abstract way I blame Wes for that.
-
I’m fucking so tired of this bollocks. They have a genuine goalscorer we don’t. That’s the fucking difference. Just shit Villa. Just fucking shit.
-
Yep, thats 22 million quids' worth of finishing right there.
FFS.
-
FFS.
Going down.
-
We're going down. Absolutely livid with Smith for the first time, my patience with his shitty tactics and stubborn perseverance with Wesley has broken.
-
Fraid so
-
We look fucked. Now I'm seriously worried
-
At this rate we are going down.
-
Fucks sake
-
Ings score for Southampton. Southampton haven't kept a clean sheet in twelve games so they are probably due one.
-
Hate Shane long. Engels, so slow, Targett, Targett wrong side. Rubbish.
-
That c*** Le Tissier celebrating on sky. Wanker.
He normally does and I don’t begrudge him. Just a shame that McInally is normally sent out and about although not much for him to celebrate in recent weeks.
-
Garbage.
-
It’s toilet week after week. Pathetic.
-
Comedy football. Grealish hospital pass. They are a shit team and they're making mugs out of us.
-
Stick Kodjia on ffs!
-
Change required urgently I'm afraid.
-
Thanks to my new best friends I now have a stream and immediately saw us miss a very decent chance and then go behind.
-
WE ARE A FUCKING MESS AT THE BACK
-
I hate this fucking formation. Our midfield is terrible.
-
Come in Mr Smith - your time is up.
-
We have no genuine pace in this team.
-
£22m futsal player. Looks about right.
-
So what is the betting on first ‘tactical’ change by Smith. I say 67 minutes.
-
Next goal is absolutely huge. Let's hope it's for us eh?
-
That’s what you get smith fir starting Wesley missing a sitter and not playing kinda who actually has pCe at cb. Woeful
Hause absolutely pathetic defending
-
Tactics: Same old shit that didn't work the week before.
This isn't anything like good enough.
-
Who'd take a draw now?
-
You stubborn bastard Dean. Change things up a bit, but instead he plays the same shit system with same forward every fucking week.
-
Norwich beating Wolves. We're dog's dinner by Christmas.
-
It is fucking all Southampton. Those crosses from Bertrand are just superb
-
I love Smith but he's had enough time and no signs he's learning nearly quickly enough
-
3pts adrift if we lose today. Not disaster but it really is looking bleak.
-
We have no pace or movement.
Personified by that immobile pile of shit at centre forward.
-
How could one possibly think it’s a good idea to isolate jack out on the left? We have no pace in the center of the park.
-
You stubborn bastard Dean. Change things up a bit, but instead he plays the same shit system with same forward every fucking week.
That’s why he should be sacked after the match.
-
Villa fans are going mental. They are are all over us.
Not good enough.
-
JACK GREALISH ISN’T A WINGER FFS
-
Tactics: Same old shit that didn't work the week before.
This isn't anything like good enough.
I'm afraid Dean looks completely out of his depth. Not in some obviously in the moment way, but over the long term he just doesn't do what a manager at this level should. It's a slow death.
-
We're dying here, running out of gas. absolutely nothing in the locker, we are going to struggle to keep Jack in January.
-
Players looked knackered and fed up.
-
Grealish dropping deep
-
We've got so little firepower it's embarrassing.
-
Smith is dead to me now after this. Ignored calls yet again to rest McGinn and drop Wesley. And what's happened? McGinn injured, Wesley shitter than ever.
We really have had some pig stubborn, intransigent managers over the years, and it's cost us dearly every time.
-
FFS so much space in that telegraphed move for Redmond there and we are doing NOTHING to stop it.
-
GAME OVER
-
0-2
-
2-0. Smith out.
-
Do we EVER stop a fucking cross coming in. It's pathetic the amount of balls we let come into the box.
-
All the players seem to have given up after Smith got his contract extended as well. Coincidence or just would have happened as he overplays everyone in a system that means we are running around like headless chickens. Very rare we have had positive possession in any match this season and it is noticeable now.
-
Wesley doing ok I reckon
Oh shit
-
Need a miracle now.
-
Jesus fucking Mary
-
2 down
-
Oh shit
-
FFS so much space in that telegraphed move for Redmond there and we are doing NOTHING to stop it.
The beauty of having three CMs with no pace in the middle three and expecting jack and aem to drop back and defend..
It’s suicidal.
-
Ok, so now the owners need to start getting impatient. Being outplayed by a shit side when they have spend £130 million and are going back into an inferior league. This is not good enough.
-
Fuck this. I’d rather have my bloody teeth pulled.
-
Takes a lot for me to say it, but I have really had enough of this utter garbage.
This is Southampton ffs.
-
First day I honestly think we are going down.
-
Redmonds it’s even that quick and he isn’t giving us various problems. Trepy should be playing
G
2-0 game over
-
GAME OVER
With an hour to go? Come on, let's be 'avin yer!
-
Dogmatically persisting with something / someone that clearly isn't working is all a bit Labour for me.
-
My god.
-
Smith Out now please.
I like him and he is a hero for bringing us up but this is it now
-
Thanks for getting us up Dean. But we are also going down with you in charge. Time to move on
-
First day I honestly think we are going down.
Likewise. And furious about it.
-
And that’s it. I think we are going down this year.
-
Nice knowin ya dean..
-
Dog shit villa!!!
-
Wow, this has relegation stamped all over it
-
Overrun at home by fucking Southampton, disgrace.
-
And we thought it was because we were playing the top sides.
-
GAME OVER
With an hour to go? Come on, let's be 'avin yer!
I’ll send you a coupon for a free starter at the restaurant of your choice if we come back to win. It might be expired, but you will get the coupon.
-
We're in serious trouble now. Need to somehow turn this around.
-
We have no idea how to defend, absolute garbage.
-
Unforgivable shit, this.
-
I know we have 250 central midfielders at the club, but surely we don't need to play them all at once.
-
I have no faith whatsoever that Smith will do anything to change the game.
-
Spending 45 minutes under the cosh, and conceding two to a relegation place team is embarassing.
they're carving us open whenever they want and Smith is just fucking stood watching it.
Pathetic.
-
At one point we were blowing leads but there were positives in that we led games. Now we are just devoid of any ideas and we can’t score goals or keep them out. This only ever ends one way with that formula. Utter shit
-
Smiths out of his depth at this level. No plan b same predicatbke paly to grealish who has three men on him and we lose pit
-
I have no faith whatsoever that Smith will do anything to change the game.
He's got nothing, has he?
-
We have no idea how to defend, absolute garbage.
Which is a surprise given they are coached by one of the best Premier League defenders ever.
-
It looked much slicker in week playing ball down channels with Kodja running onto it facing goals but we play up to Wes with back to goal, I don’t get it
-
And there was me thinking Grealish had been given a free role to play where he sees fit to get the space. So has Smith now told him to stay left or has Grealish decided to hide. No surprise he has barely been seen the last few matches which has had us show Pretty much no attacking threat at all now.
-
Spending 45 minutes under the cosh, and conceding two to a relegation place team is embarassing.
they're carving us open whenever they want and Smith is just fucking stood watching it.
Pathetic.
He’s thinking of how we can get out of the traps he’s set for us
-
Abysmal.
-
When your good players start performing badly it's a leaderhip issue. Engels, Jack, Guilbert all terrible today.
-
Dogmatically persisting with something / someone that clearly isn't working is all a bit Labour for me.
I hope to mean the manager.
-
Pundit just saying, 'you have to get the basic's right, and Southampton have being doing that really well'.............No they haven't, Southampton are only doing what Villa are incapable of stopping them from doing, Southampton are crap.
-
Norwich feels a long time ago now. All that optimism and now we have this... it’s dreadful.
-
They've all been diabolical, but special mention for Luiz, Guilbert, Wesley and El Ghazi who are worse than rubbish.
-
Has Hourihane touched the ball yet?
-
Oh well, at least we haven't just given the manager a massive contract extension.
-
I know we have 250 central midfielders at the club, but surely we don't need to play them all at once.
CH, MN and DL are not fast enough to cover the ground necessary to play a midfield 3, and expecting jack and el Ghazi to drop back to help them defend is a pipe dream.
This is stubborn ignorance from a manager who should know better after watching it fail for weeks.
This is just pathetic.
-
:(😡😡😡😡😡😡
-
Its come to the point when we need wesley to get injured. Seriously.
-
He simply cannot do the basics.
So many poor judgements all over the pitch!
Jack in the wrong position.
Wesley- well not just the worse striker I’ve seen in a Villa shirt but the worst player!
Same formation.
So unfit compared to every other team.
Really wanted him to be the man but time for him to go.
-
We've been so shit since Smith got his new contract. God knows why he was offered one at that point. The timing was so strange.
-
Wesley eecond ball to every thing as usual. Hourihane falling everywhere and just doung nothing but yeah leta stick with these players.
-
This is a genuine 2015/16 style performance.
-
It's pretty hard to believe Hourihane is on the pitch.
-
We've been so shit since Smith got his new contract. God knows why he was offered one at that point. The timing was so strange.
Shite business by Purslow, has to be said.
-
Grealish needs to come back inside. He's completely isolated and we've lost the ability he has to bring the ball up the pitch. Trezeguet's no worse than anything we have in centre mid at the minute.
-
It's pretty hard to believe Hourihane is on the pitch.
He’s playing on the left side of a 4-3-3.. he has no idea wtf to do there.
-
We've been so shit since Smith got his new contract. God knows why he was offered one at that point. The timing was so strange.
We've got form for that. Did the same with that useless chump Lambert. Fuck knows why.
-
This is a genuine 2015/16 style performance.
Worse, we had at least the hope of experience to try and fall back on, now...Oh wow!!.
-
The players are not confident and not being given the best chance to succeed because of the non existent tactics. Absolutely fucking crap
-
The new contract at that time of the season seems poor business now.
We have been absolutely shit. Really woeful smiths carryjng on from the last few weeks
-
Boos at half time I wonder for the first time in smiths reign ?
-
Well at least we have our attacking, front-foot football to look forward to.
-
Boos at half time I wonder for the first time in smiths reign ?
Is it possible to come out for the second half worse than this?
The answer is yes. We’ve given up a goal right after half time three weeks in a row.
-
What changes at HT?
Ha ha will there bollocks!!
-
El ghazi has been so bad as illustrated there.
-
They have been coached well to know we are shit at crosses. They know we have not improved at all in that area.
Our captain is playing out of position. Our most energetic midfielder is now out injured. Our best CB is out injured and while he was playing made many of the mistakes that led to goals. Our LB is gash. Tom Heaton probably thinks he’s playing for Burnley still.
-
Boos at half time I wonder for the first time in smiths reign ?
It will be more than deserved
-
Well done smith great eecision to bring in conor with shit balls like that.absolute disgrace
-
Just keep fucking whacking the ball long to Wesley. Absolutely shit
-
It looked much slicker in week playing ball down channels with Kodja running onto it facing goals but we play up to Wes with back to goal, I don’t get it
Wes looks slick running the channels. We are pathetic and the manager and Director are to blame
-
He probably wishes he still was.
-
The M6 prevented me from attending today - accident after accident between J2 and J6 - gave up and came off at J5, but I'm quite glad I'm missing this shit - Dean is going to be out on 27th December if he doesn't get a win on Boxing Day and we lose today.
-
Jack trying to outpace the full back is the most useless tactic ever employed by a Villa manager and a complete waste of his talents
-
Is Ghazi playing?
-
The M6 prevented me from attending today - accident after accident between J2 and J6 - gave up and came off at J5, but I'm quite glad I'm missing this shit - Dean is going to be out on 27th December if he doesn't get a win on Boxing Day and we lose today.
42k fans deseeve bettwr than this garbage. Smith has a lot to answer for
-
Getting relegated and facing a potential docking of points next season due to FFP irregularities could see us back in a financial shit storm
Where has all the positivity gone to ?
-
Well at least we have our attacking, front-foot football to look forward to.
Can't wait for those overloads.
-
Guilbert, El Ghazi, Jack, Targett, Engels nowhere near good enough in my opinion today.
-
Only players been playing well is hause and luiz. Wveyone wlse has been woeful to garbage
-
HT - WHAT AN ABSOLUTE PILE OF BOLLOCKS THAT WAS
-
Has the ref lost his whistle
-
Worst Villa performance of the season. A saying that seems to come up every game at the moment. Totally useless.
-
Apart from kodj who can come on and change the game ?
-
As a slight aside, happened upon a London boozer which have either sky or bt live chatter. It's surely not right to have Francis Benali as the "watcher"
-
Not sure if we will win another game this season if Smith continues with this shitfest.
-
The thing that's pissing me off more than the abysmal performances is McGinn. Smith has wrecked one of our best players by playig him injured, persumably because his lack of tactics make him reliant on players changing games. Desperate and terrible leadership.
-
Worst Villa performance of the season. A saying that seems to come up every game at the moment. Totally useless.
We’ve said that a dozen times already this year.
-
Utter dross
-
Could definitely hear some booing there. That was pisspoor: our relegation rivals and we're being totally outplayed.
-
Shocker.
-
Ill in bed. Where is the best coverage please?
Not inside Villa Park for sure.
-
Hourihane and El Ghazi off immediately, Trez and Kodjia on, 2 up front, and Jack playing were he should be playing please. None of that will happen.
-
That's horrific. Either some serious tactical changes happen at half time, or we lose this 3 or 4 nil.
-
Apart from kodj who can come on and change the game ?
Tony Morley, Sid and Gary Shaw.
-
Tell me there were boos for that steaming pile of shit at HT? because nothing is fucking worse than the apathy I felt at the match v Blades. Time to care again Villa.
-
What to do, its a classic relegation dilemma that we have slipped into, tactics by desperation, the next 45 are going to be massive for DS, lets hope we can get a point out of this. Watford and Norwich are really going to fancy us over the Christmas period.
-
The only positive I can find is it's only 2.
-
Week after week, it is getting worse. If he can have us continue to look worse against fucking Southampton, then we have a serious problem.
I would also question the fitness of some of our players. They have so much more energy than us. We look like we are playing our second match of the day.
Is there a more one-paced midfield three in the world than Luiz, Hourihane and Nakamba?
Sorry, Dean, but you look absolutely out of your fucking depth here.
-
Horrific. We look like a team that met out on the car park five minutes before the game.
-
Been out for a lovely family meal and just got back.
Closes thread....
-
Tell me there were boos for that steaming pile of shit at HT? because nothing is fucking worse than the apathy I felt at the match v Blades. Time to care again Villa.
Yep, there was as the ref blew.
-
An utter shit show.
Seeing El Ghazi ambling around like he's in his living room is making my blood boil.
Not a single positive.
-
Should be ok, fast second half starts are our specialty.
-
Beggars belief that us amateurs can see the glaringly obvious mistakes week after week after week. And the millionaire professional can’t.
Over paid and over praised charlatans most of them.
-
There will be no change in tactics at HT. Wesley will be up front. Jack will be on the left. We will come out with some urgency for 10 minutes, not score as Southampton park the bus and then they will kill us of on the break. We will score a late meaningless goal. Dean Smith will tell us the players didn’t perform and didn’t do what he asked of them. It won’t be his tactics and stubbornness in playing the same way over and over again. Next week will be the same.
-
Smith had stood there completely emotionless sll half. Probably time for him to go.
-
Is Ghazi playing?
Yes
Only noticed him because he was supposedly marking their player who scored from a corner. Awful defending
-
Horrific. We look like a team that met out on the car park five minutes before the game.
We have been saying this far too often recently.
-
Been out for a lovely family meal and just got back.
Closes thread....
Reach for the Gaviscon, if your looking at this your going to need it.
-
Smith had stood there completely emotionless sll half. Probably time for him to go.
That's the most worrying part. Looks clueless, gormless, and careless.
-
Just back from the tip. Wish I’d stayed there.
-
Is Ghazi playing?
Yes
Only noticed him because he was supposedly marking their player who scored from a corner. Awful defending
He did whip a dangerous ball in early on in the game, in fairness.
Was there anyone to connect with it? Was there fuck
-
Just back from the tip. Wish I’d stayed there.
Why were you at St Andrews?
-
I’ll weigh in with some blind optimism and say we’re going to win 4-3
-
I’ll weigh in with some blind optimism and say we’re going to win 4-3
I'll have what you're having, mate!
-
I hope that was not our good half.
In 63 years of age , I have seen some crap. but that has to be up there with the worst.
This team, with those Individual performances, tactics and lack of spirit will be relegated.
Across the pitch they are better than us
A special mention for wesley, I have tried not to slag him but, he misses an open goal, what the fuck is he doing constantly on the left and not in the centre.
He does not capture a throw to him and then stands fucking rigid as they drive forward.
The defense !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only marvelous has any credit, and why is Grealish on the wing !!
More to follow.
-
Just joined aswell, stats look dismal and a real disaster if we lose this as seems likely now.
As much as we moan about Mings and McGinn losing form, taking both out of the team and it looks a championship 11 in terms of mentality.
-
Disgusted at that 1st half. Its been a disgraceful performance. As usual smith does nothing about it and just does on hoping we wont concede again.
We look a complete and utter shambles in defence. Even bruce did a better job setting up our back line.
Yet he persists to stick with under performing flops like conor and wesley
-
I’ll weigh in with some blind optimism and say we’re going to win 4-3
I'll have what you're having, mate!
10 pints of Drummond's Old Peculiar.
-
It’s okay. 22 of the 30 goals we have conceded this season have been in the 2nd half apparently.
-
He was never going to be a premier League manager. If we wanted to spend big in the summer we should have looked from the top down...
-
I’ll weigh in with some blind optimism and say we’re going to win 4-3
I'll have what you're having, mate!
I’ve mentally consumed the rest of my beer advent calendar. 10% all the way.
-
I’ll weigh in with some blind optimism and say we’re going to win 4-3
Blind....optimism...take your pick there ?
-
Good point. Mings may not be perfect but without him our defence has gone from ineffective to shabolic and there is no on the pitch leadership at all.
-
Where's an abseiling santa when you need one.
-
This was supposed to be a lifeline. We can’t carry on like this for the rest of the season - something has to change.
-
Just joined aswell, stats look dismal and a real disaster if we lose this as seems likely now.
As much as we moan about Mings and McGinn losing form, taking both out of the team and it looks a championship 11 in terms of mentality.
Good point. With the transfer window coming up, do we build for relegation and to come straight back up? Because we are unlikely to attract players who know they are going to be in the Championship next season.
-
Surely we've got to put one of Kodj or Trez on at half time. I'd have started Kodjia today, we've all seen in last six weeks Wesley has really struggled. Don't understand this blind faith in him because we spent 22m on him. Loads of clubs sign players for that amount and they're just squad players.
Dean Smith's job becomes in peril now if we lose this so he's only hurting himself.
-
Is Ghazi playing?
Don't think so, neither is Hourihane.
-

Edit: I was still more despondant in two of the Lambert seasons midway through. We stayed up in both so there is still plenty of time.
When you look at what we signed half of the players came in just in case the worst happened I think. Hause, Konsa, Jota, El Ghazi all more proven at championship than top level.
The problem will be of course FFP, having to sell our best players and also back to gloom and doom after six months of positivity. This all could've been avoided.

Bloody smith sticks with him ni matter what its farcical
-
First tactical substitution
O/U 79.5 minutes
-
Great from jack there
-
I’ll weigh in with some blind optimism and say we’re going to win 4-3
I'll have what you're having, mate!
I’ll weigh in with some blind optimism and say we’re going to win 4-3
That’s championship talk !

The really sad thing about all this is the fact we are not even making a real fist of it, we play like we are excepting the inevitability of the whole situation.
-
No changes.
-
They run through us so easily. Its shocking
-
No changes? Utter joke.
-
The season has gone very flat after losing 4-1 to Leicester. As a club in the last decade we seem to plod along o.k then we get hammered in a match and then the whole club feels sorry for itself for the next six weeks.
Southampton have lost a match 9-0 this season and played well since. We will not achieve our great ambitions again until we have a better mentality running through the club, so frustrating.
0-3 now.
-
Is Ghazi playing?
Don't think so, neither is Hourihane.
Grealish, Luiz, Targett? It says a lot when Wesley was a long way down the list of our worst. Frankly a disgusting performances, players hiding all over the pitch and Shane fucking Long tearing us a new one.
Grealish's efforts really took the piss for me. Arm waving, berating anyone and everyone, has lost possession every time in contact and piss poor effort in trying to get it back. Setting a tone and a pretty dreadful one at that.
-
3-0. Bye Dean.
-
I quite liked the Championship. 0-3.
-
0-3
-
Another goal straight after half time. Don't these twats listen? Fuck off.
-
Was just about to type Danny Ings would make such a difference in our team, he's such a danger in the six yard box.
Why like in 15/16 we neglected the final third again when signings players I just don't get.
-
Goodbye Dean. Thanks for everything but your time is up
-
Oh dear
-
Jack needs to calm down, or he’ll get booked and miss the Norwich game
-
Unreal, absolutely unreal heads have really dropped now
-
Ha! You have to laugh, that was so poor. Fucking useless twats, all of them.
-
This might get embarrassing and end up 4 or 5 nil.
-
Utter utter shite. Smart finish though.
-
No changes.
I said that there wouldn’t be and we have the obvious fucking result. He won’t change, he hasn’t learned a thing.
-
Well no changes means the same shit so not suprised.
Smiths out of his depth and needs to resign
-
That is just so bad, it's laughable.
-
good night dean
-
This might get embarrassing and end up 4 or 5 nil.
I thought the same, this could so easily happen now.
-
Pretty fucking incredible to see no changes at half time EVER.
-
This might will get embarrassing and end up 4 or 5 nil.
FTFY
-
This is the first time I’ve actually seen players heads drop
-
433 Didn't work in the first half, stubborn fucker has stuck with it for the second half. Clueless.
-
This is like the Norwich game, but with us as Norwich.
-
We have to go two up top here surely? Smith might as well try.
-
Pretty fucking incredible to see no changes at half time EVER.
Smith has no one to blame but himself.
It shouldn't have ended this way but it has. We're shit and so is he.
-
We claw our way out of the championship. Finally have wonderful owners. All we had to do was Fcukin stay up. Finish fourth bottom anything but end up in the bottom three. No we are Villa. Just fuck off.
-
Unthinkable
-
I've said before this season reminds me so much of Lambert's first. Glimmers of good player and the odd good result but we easily go into a downward spiral when we get hammered.
This is our 0-3 Wigan game.
-
Why the fuck does Targett never seem to be where you'd expect to see a left back?
-
433 Didn't work in the first half, stubborn fucker has stuck with it for the second half. Clueless.
I really don't think he actually knows what to do, rabbit in the headlights, he's poleaxed.
-
This is a sodding disaster. We shouldn’t have come up last season. Totally out of place in this league.
-
Waits until we're 3 nil down before making a change. Clueless.
-
To think we were turning up our noses at Ings in the summer.
-
Been saying for weeks we need to sign pacy goal getter who can run towards goal like ings .....Dwight Gayle better than what we’ve got
-
The lack of Premier League nouse throughout the playing side of the club is so apparent. I hoped Dean would have learned from the first few months on the season, but it really looks like he hasn't. Not to make a change at half-time is madness when you are 2-0 down - especially knowing how we normally start the second half.
-
Pretty fucking incredible to see no changes at half time EVER.
[/
Smith has no one to blame but himself.
It shouldn't have ended this way but it has. We're shit and so is he.
He is shit yes. I was always underwhelmed by his appointment - the only thing of note on his cv was stuffing us a few times. Not difficult at the time.
-
Hey playing wesley up front alone has worked so well so far ill tell you what ill just keep doing it over and over. Surely it will work eventually?
Genius management
-
Been saying for weeks we need to sign pacy goal getter who can run towards goal like ings .....Dwight Gayle better than what we’ve got
Actually, bollocks to it, get benteke too
-
It is possible that because we have a manager that actually supports the club, he may take the decision, to do what is best for the club, he may actually resign and not wait for the sack, if he really feels he's got nothing to offer, he may quit so the club can move forward and get brexit done...ooops sorry, I mean stay up.
-
Kodj on for Hourihane. 57 minutes too late.
-
No way is he resigning. And lose compo. It’s not like Rons day.
-
Kodj on for Hourihane. 57 minutes too late.
Yep idiotic management after kodjia did so well midweek. But hey im three down i give him a go.
-
I need two teams to score in my accumulator. You can guess who one of them is.
-
I’ve just heard there’s been a Tornado in Chertsey. Not relevant to this match but I’m clutching at anything to take my mind off this festive bunch of turd.
-
Our body language is awful. But understandable.
-
I think the real Wes is tied up in a cellar in Bruges.
-
Cant even see a consolation goal for us now.
-
Embarrassing watching players like Targett, El Ghazi, Nakamba and even Luiz trying to play football. They've looked extremely poor again today.
-
To think we were turning up our noses at Ings in the summer.
And cheaper than Wes for a proven scorer.
-
Blues have been enjoying our torment - but they are now losing two nil at Hull. Fuck you!
-
And another thing that has pissed me off today. Trezeguet scores several goals. So why drop him and play El Ghazi who has been as useful as a... well... not very useful thing
-
And another thing that has pissed me off today. Trezeguet scores several goals. So why drop him and play El Ghazi who has been as useful as a... well... not very useful thing
Trez is shite
-
Is Benitez still available?
-
Wolves have equalized.
-
No pace, no movement, no urgency, body language of the team is fucking awful, utterly predictable coming forward.
Too many players who are not good enough at this level, and - I am starting to think - a manager in the same class.
-
Only good thing still going was our GD compared to many of our rivals. That's now being negated.
-
Loading the penalty area with players and cant get a decent cross in.
-
And another thing that has pissed me off today. Trezeguet scores several goals. So why drop him and play El Ghazi who has been as useful as a... well... not very useful thing
Trez is shite
But I can’t see how he’s any worse than any of what we’re watching right now... Sadly.
-
Engels can be added to the list of poor performances. Unbearably slow.
-
This is the gane that buried us
-
Is Benitez still available?
Yes and wants to come back to the UK
Worth remembering he took the Geordies down so not the messiah some claim him to be. Bruce has done better than him this year as well. Maybe he ain’t that good
-
I’ve just heard there’s been a Tornado in Chertsey. Not relevant to this match but I’m clutching at anything to take my mind off this festive bunch of turd.

-

The players don’t believe in the system we are playing or what is being asked of them. They look completely bewildered by it all. No confidence in every possible way on display.
-
Fuck off El Ghazi, you're abysmal.
-
There aren't many realistic manager options I'd take in a heartbeat right now, but Benitez is one of them.
-
Is Benitez still available?
Is quite possibly the post of the day.
-

I think that’s been the case for a number of weeks.
-
Pathetic from Dean and his team and appalling recruitment from Pitarch.
-
El Ghazi booked and then subbed for Trez.
-
The lads look pasty and lost
-
68 minutes it took him to realise AEG wasn't contributing.
-
El Ghazi has a stinker yet somehow manages to remain on the pitch for 68 minutes.
-

I think he forgot he was on and the yellow card suddenly reminded him.

Did he? Thought he got them out of the championship . Our summer recruitment looks increasingly disastrous
-
We are so fucking SLOW and ponderous coming forward.
-
68 minutes it took him to realise AEG wasn't contributing.
I think he forgot he was on and the yellow card suddenly reminded him.
That made me chuckle and by fuck I need cheering up.

Big Sam tucking into a pint of wine?

FFS Wesley you useless tree.

I think it's more we just got smashed by Leicester and since then they don't believe they're good enough for this level for whatever reason.
We're also getting injuries now. For all that Mings form dipped in last few weeks we seem now taking his leadership and organisation skills out of the back 4 massively weakens us
-

Is it all that surprising? Fucking Wesley is still on the pitch.
-
Luiz pings a ball into the box, cleared by Wesley.
-
Is Wesley a footballer?
-
Wesley is the poster boy for our probable relegation
-
The lack of pace is really shocking.
-
Is Wesley a footballer?
That really is a thread in its own right.
-
I hope Dean doesn't blame the McGinn injury for this.

The Leicester game just cemented what they all already knew. We had got by losing close games and scraping points. The message was it will turn. Then the wheels completely fell off and everything is laid bare. That the players don’t believe didn’t just happen against Leicester. It just served to prove their fears and concerns were legitimate.
-
I hope Dean doesn't blame the McGinn injury for this.
He can't even trot out his customary pop at the officials either.
-

Trez is shite
But I can’t see how he’s any worse than any of what we’re watching right now... Sadly.
That is the trouble at the moment. Hourihane or AEG plays badly so Trez is mentioned, who then does shit so we ask where is .... It is happening all over the park. Either the whole squad is shit (not saying it isn't) or /and the system is shit for the players. We have been saying all season that the midfield is not protecting the defence, the fullbacks are being double teamed, etc. He has tried multiple personnel in the positions (apart from Wesleys for some inconcievable reason) and the performances still haven't improved massively and are now going downhill faster then a champion skier. I expect Smith to start panicking and just drawing names out of the hat for the positions for awhile before finally trying different formations that the players have never trained in. We might even panic buy in January but something needs to be done that shows we are not hoping for three worse teams then us which now definitely seems to be our tactic and it is not paying off at all.
-
Kodija shows what on earth we’ve been missing. I’m why???
-
I hope Dean doesn't blame the McGinn injury for this.
He can't even trot out his customary pop at the officials either.
But he will
-
Did we actually sign Wesley, or did he win a competition on a packet of Rice Crispies?
-
SCORE!
-
Kodjia looking sharp.
Get in Jack. Stunning.
-
Jack you beauty
-
I’ll weigh in with some blind optimism and say we’re going to win 4-3
I'll have what you're having, mate!
It’s on!!!
-
Grealish grabs a consolation.
-
and there’s your silver lining con job goal by Jack which Dean will use to say we didn’t play that badly and only lost by two
-
Luiz pings a ball into the box, cleared by Wesley.
Ha ha. He really is an asset for the opposition’s defence. I think Gabby could play better even now.
-
Grealish scores
-
Kodjia has shown five times the application Wesley has.
-
jack class
-
No pace, no movement, no urgency, body language of the team is fucking awful, utterly predictable coming forward.
Too many players who are not good enough at this level, and - I am starting to think - a manager in the same class.
Mentally, as a team they have developed to rely on Grealish to do everything. Players aren't accepting their own responsibility to create so that when Grealish doesn't deliver, we're a team without a compass. That and we have too many players that were bought to develop and others that are Championship quality at best.
And just to prove my point..
-
Pick that mother out.
-
Jack you beauty! Fantastic strike.
-
shame we will be losing him
-
Dean Smith looks confused by us scoring.
-
Kodija showing us what the hell we’ve been missing. He needs to start. In a 4-4-fucking-2.
-
What has VAR got to do with that? The shittest piece of technology since the TV adapter for Sega Game Gear.
-
There’s so much more movement with the two strikers. Why the bloody hell, for the sake of a giant festive turd, have we not been doing it!!!!
-
Kod has made a bit of a difference - Dean?
-
There will be no change in tactics at HT.
Spot on so far.
-
Just back from the tip. Wish I’d stayed there.
Why were you at St Andrews?
Taking a dump on their corner flags. Trying to reinvoke the curse.
-
Wolves ahead.
-
BBC Text has a reporter for the BBC World Service being quoted for Jack's goal. Please tell me we haven't had our match broadcast live on the radio.
-
Kod has made a bit of a difference - Dean?
almost comical..

It's on Talksport 2
-
Jack is going to be such a targeted player in the coming days for the big clubs
-
Trezeguet. Shocking couple of set pieces.
-
Shocking waste of two free kicks.
-
trez has a useless finish
-
Two utterly shit free kicks by Trezeguet
-
As if it couldn’t be any worse, my stream just took me back to when they scored their third.
-
It took a 3-0 to do it.. but front-foot football lads!
-
I don't mind Trez, but WHY is he taking those free kicks? Grealish has just pinged in a volley and Trez is low on confidence. Momentum ffs.
-
trez has a useless finish
He's not doing very well is he.
-
Shocking waste of two free kicks.
Oh if only we had Houri.....
Shame we can't do an American Football and bring on specialists for certain parts of the game only.
-
I don't mind Trez, but WHY is he taking those free kicks? Grealish has just pinged in a volley and Trez is low on confidence. Momentum ffs.
I think hes rubbish
-
How was that not 4-1?
-
82 mins. And Wes still on the pitch. Get your bloody coat Dean.
-
Jack is going to be such a targeted player in the coming days for the big clubs
Not until the summer
-
Should have been 1-4 there.
-
Depressed. Why do the villa always me feel like this going into Christmas?
-
We looked at a decent at 3-0 down. And that Villa Park advantage has been completely fucking destroyed.
-
It seems Kodj is not just the forgotten man at VP. I just checked Wiki for his stats this season as I couldn't remember if this was his Prem debut for and nothing has been added to it since May 2019 for club and July for Country,
-
Oh look and a fucking Nose to come on at the end. This will finish us off now.
-
82 mins. And Wes still on the pitch. Get your bloody coat Dean.
Whilst I agree with the general sentiment here, we've long since used our 3 subs, so if you're expecting Wesley subbed off you'll be waiting a while longer
-
Kodjia in a cameo has looked 10 times the player Wesley has looked
-
82 mins. And Wes still on the pitch. Get your bloody coat Dean.
Well he could take him off and play 10 as it couldn't be worse but even the worst manager doesn't do that deliberately.
-
And Newcastle winning now. Fucking hell
-
And Newcastle winning now. Fucking hell
What relevance does that have to us? They're way up the table.
-
And Newcastle winning now. Fucking hell
Since we comfortably beat them, they've picked up 10 points. Just the one point for us.
Sometimes having premier league experience can actually be a good thing.
-
Just got in. How’s it been? Is it as bad as that clusterfuck of a score line suggests? 🙄
-
Bravo dean a marvellous result! Well deserved new contract 😡
-
Just got in. How’s it been? Is it as bad as that clusterfuck of a score line suggests? 🙄
beers are in the fridge.

The scoreline flatters us.
-

Robbed.
-
Kodjia in a cameo has looked 10 times the player Wesley has looked
He's highlighted Smith's incompetence. Imagine a player who had a great game in the week and scored two goals being more use than a non scoring, confidence lacking player. Crazy.
-
Horrible defeat.
-
Thanks for this shitty situation, Dean.
-
And Newcastle winning now. Fucking hell
What relevance does that have to us? They're way up the table.
It’s to contrast how our fortunes have changed since we comfortably beat them. We were in the same spot as them after that game. Yet Bruce learned from that defeat and over the next few games made the needed changes to get his team back on track. We instead became complacent and stuck to the same system week after week. Now they are in the top 10, miles ahead of us. We are in the bottom three and getting worse by the week.
-
Balls. Shouldn’t be getting turned over at home by that rabble. No sign of improvement.... we’re sleepwalking back to the championship.
Needs his bus fare home now - no time for sentiment.
-

Devils Advocate, Wes also scored in that match, which might have boosted his confidence. However to start Conor because he scored and not Kodj definitely highlights Smiths obvious issues with him or infatuation with Wes for some stupid reason.
-
Wesley for me has tk be one of the worat strikers we have ever signed. 22m and he cant score cant pass cant header cant control the ball. What the actual fuck. Who concluded he would be a) good enough to keep us b) no other striker to compete against him?
Skmeone has to be held accounable for this mess
-

Wes scored when those kids were down and out.

We're not going to do a Fulham - we are going to do 2015/16 all over again.

Don’t disagree with that. I could see the logic in behind putting Wesley in again after his goal, but their respective performances today showed how wrong that was, and smith sees a lot more of these players than us.
-

Wes scored when those kids were down and out.
A goal is a goal. Kodj was also playing against the same kids. I'm in the agreement that Kodj should have started as per the beginning of the thread, just pointing out that to pick up on two goals against a team that the "non scorer" did score against is slightly a wrong argument. Conor did score against them as well when they weren't down and out and he was as useful as a chocolate fireguard today.
TBH, I would either play them both or Kodj with Jack just behind him next match and then try a proper four in midfield to help the rest of the team out.
-
Kodjia did ok but it helped he has Wesley there to occupy the defenders , where as Wes is constantly left alone battling alone.I'm not saying Wes has been great but the MF offer him little support and today the CBS hit aimless balls to him ...one of which caused the first goal
-
Highlight of the afternoon was buying H&V off Percy. We are in deep shit. Same performance as Sheff Utd. Completely unacceptable. It was Jack against 11 in the second half.
-
We're not going to do a Fulham - we are going to do 2015/16 all over again.
Two more points between now and the end of the season would definitely be a massive change around. Although where O'Neill always had a shit end of season, Smith seems to have a shit Winter going into the new year for us.
-
Smith out
-
I really want Dean to get this right, nothing to do with him being a Villa fan, however the last few weeks have been very disappointing. Need a win from somewhere, today should have been it.
