One for UKR and Woofles the Wonder Dog there!
Anyway:
Saturday 3.8.19 14:30 KO
-
Hope that Luiz gets his wp sorted so he can play, needs game time. Looking forward to this as it will be a proper test for us.
-
Anyone know if it will be streamed on YouTube again?
-
Would have thought so. With the added pleasure of Jack Woodward babbling on and on and on and on...
-
me and the wife are travelling from Berlin for this one, really looking forward to seeing how we fair against a top European side!
-
Anyone know if it will be streamed on YouTube again?
Yes. With interruptions after 7, 19, 28, 44, 67, 79 and 83 minutes.

But don’t be too concerned, you will still be able to hear Jack telling you about his new cutlery set and swish curtains with live, uninterrupted audibles. Hurarr!

Blimey Leeg, there's obscure references and then there's this :o ;D

I'm quite frankly baffled!

This will be a very good warm up for Spurs.
Leipzig are major pressing team and have finished 2nd, 6th and 3rd in their three seasons in Bundesliga. Not a very popular team over there but have lots of quality. Also have appointed Julian Nagelsmann as their new coach, he did brilliant work at Hoffenheim over last 4 seasons. He turned 32 last week......
Players to look out for....Dayot Upamenco (French CB linked to Barcelona recently), Yussuf Poulsen, striker who can play centrally or out wide and was regular for Denmark at last World cup, Timo Wener (german striker at last world cup), Christopher Nkunku (midfielder at PSG last season) and of course signed Amapdu and Lookman in last week.
Nice stadium aswell, it hosted matches in 2006 WC.
-
A bit prema- innit?
-
They appear to be absolutely despised in Germany. More so than Bayern even. Werner is a talent, hopefully both teams go full strength. This will be good.
-
They appear to be absolutely despised in Germany. More so than Bayern even.
They are. This is what I said in another thread:
RB Leipzig are very controversial (and hated by fans of many of the more traditional teams). In 2009 Red Bull bought into a struggling lower-league Leipzig team with the aim of taking them into the top flight. Under Bundesliga rules companies aren't allowed to be owners of football teams unless, like Wolfsburg (VW) and Leverkusen (Bayer), they genuinely started off as works teams. Red Bull managed to get round this while the club was still in the lower leagues but they're still not allowed to call themselves Red Bull, so they just use the name RB Leipzig. Of course, everyone knows that RB is really Red Bull, but officially it's a ridiculous made-up name, RasenBallsport Leipzig, which means "grass ball sport". The name is regarded with something between contempt and derision by the rest of the Bundesliga, but you can't ignore their success on the field. After promotion after promotion they joined the top flight in 2016 and finished 3rd last season, so we'll be playing a team that's qualified for the CL.
What's good is that Saxony has a top-flight football team and this has given Leipzig a footballing identity that it hasn't had for decades together with considerable commercial benefits. They attract big crowds, even though many supporters of the other Bundesliga teams boycott their teams' matches in Leipzig.
-
Does anybody know how many tickets that AVFC have been allocated/sold for the match in Leipzig?
Also wondering what the general consensus was regarding how fans were getting there, where they staying, drinking, etc.
For me personally, I staying in Berlin on Friday/Saturday and commuting to/from Leipzig on match day.
-
Our match has now disappeared from their website, but when I last looked we'd sold all but about 40 tickets in quite a large block
-
is Doug going to be eligible for this one?
-
Be a good test this, they are a very energetic side who won’t give us a second on the ball in defence.
-
is Doug going to be eligible for this one?
Would really hope so. If he dosen't play I doubt we'd throw him in against Spurs with little match fitness. Hourihane as the DM having to track runs of Son and Dele Alli dosen't fill me with huge amount of confidence!
-
Anyone know if it will be streamed on YouTube again?
Yes. With interruptions after 7, 19, 28, 44, 67, 79 and 83 minutes.
So every time we score then?

I'm hoping the latter of those two gets shown to be a massive bullet dodged by us. The former will spend 90 minutes tracking SJM.

Jack Woodward makes me wet

Hopefully Nakamba is up to speed if not Douglas. Possibly playing them both at Spurs.

It’s a private match so both teams can select whoever they like on trial basis.

Haha. Oh no

I thought only the UK friendlies were live on YouTube - but I may be wrong
-
Does anybody know how many tickets that AVFC have been allocated/sold for the match in Leipzig?
I see that RB have now opened up the adjacent block. Masses of room
-
I imagine most fans think they have huge support but we really are impressive. It's a pity the away allocations this season will be so low.
It was a major plus for me that you could turn up and pay on the door, especially mid week games, in the championship and I'm sure in the latter part of the season went someway to inspiring the team to see it through.

Wish I was going but am recovering from surgery on my reconstructed foot. Missing Spurs and Bournemouth as well. What a start our first ever Premiership trophy winning season.

Isn't he a Sheffield United fan or something like that? I'm pretty sure he's not a Villan.

It's another £11.99 a month, that's what it is. 😂
They will accept your money via Sky or Virgin, as far as I'm aware.
-
I would have loved to have gone to this game - unfortunately my current status (health and financial) will not enable me to go.
I hope that everyone going has a brilliant time -as did me and VCTM jnr when we went to Bremen a few years back - German stadiums and hospitality are a class act - even the police were friendly
-
I enjoyed meeting you in Bremen VCTM. Sorry you can't make it to Leipzig.
-
Don’t think we have ever met VCTM, but sorry you can’t make the trip to Leipzig. Hope things are on the up for you soon.
I am fortunate enough to be flying out to Berlin tomorrow, then making my way to Leipzig on Saturday for the game. This will be my first overseas trip with AVFC since Paderborn/Bochum a number of years ago. That was a great trip, and I am sure that Leipzig will be equally as good. Really looking forward to it.
Btw if anyone happens to know the names of any Leipzig pubs/bars where the Villa fans are likely to be drinking pre/post match, I would be grateful for any info.
-
Can’t wait for this. See you all there!
-
I enjoyed meeting you in Bremen VCTM. Sorry you can't make it to Leipzig.
Likewise Frank - jnr still talks about it - he made a small fortune collecting empty glasses and getting the 1€ deposit back on each .....as they say " you can take the boy out of Liverpool but you can't take Liverpool etc .....
I've still got photos on my phone of that brilliant day - it was fun all the German Villains too
Have a blast Frank - regards VCTM and jnr
-
Anyone know if this can be watched live in the US ?

Kildare Irish pub looks a favourite with fans already there posting on Twitter. Hope this helps. Enjoy, I’m very jealous.

There’s 2 great places if you like brew houses and beer garden food.
The first one is the Thomaskircher Brauhaus. Probably a 20 minute walk from the stadium. Normally some seating outside. Just outside the Thomaskircher in the main town:
http://www.brauhaus-thomaskirche.de/
The second is the Bayerischer Bahnhof. An old converted railway station now with a top restaurant and a beer garden.
https://www.bayerischer-bahnhof.de/en
Both of which brew their own beer and are responsible for quite significant hangovers during the many weekends I spend out there.
Of course, there’s a usual selection of Irish bars and other places. Just watch out for the Russians. One of our guys was beaten to an inch of his life for just being in the wrong place last year... he’s subsequently never flown again and lost his medical for good. They are few and far between but there are some pretty scary gangs out there.
Food wise... depends what you’re after. There’s the usual selection of Vapiano and Burger Bars over town including Peter Pan and Hans Im Gluck. There’s a curry house called the Indian Crown but it’s quite upmarket... there’s a couple of others but those who’ve been there advised against it!
If you find yourself with a morning and fancy some culture, I recommend the Volkerdenksmal. It’s a huge memorial just outside the town with great views out. And 500 odd steps to the top.
Finally, if anyone is in the Penta Hotel - I’ll be in around midnight on the Saturday night if anyone fancies a beer or two? The bar is open 24 hours a day and there’s usually a DHL air crew sat around until 5am. And take a pillow. The pillows in this hotel are beyond crap... if you’re booked In there, you’ll see what I mean!

And if you like live music, Tivoli regularly has blues bands on until 3am-4am. Costs about 10 Euros to get in but is pretty decent in there!
Hope this helps someone!

Sorry to keep on badgering this thread, I keep on thinking of things (being distracted by a toddler doesn’t help!)
And one last thing... there’s the big tower in the main square. It costs a couple of Euros to get to the very top in a lift... but the views are incredible and there’s an outside bar on the top at the viewing area. It is worth doing for a beer with a view.
If anyone has any questions on the city please let me know. I spend most weekends out there with work at the moment. It’s like a second home!

Looks like it’s £12 a month, DD only, can’t see any offers and not easy to cancel so fuck them.

Repeat showing Sunday afternoon on their Freesports channel

Thats some great info there chris. I cant make the game today unfortunately but might visit when next on my travels

You’re very welcome. It’s a nice city, I like it there. Lots of green space and miles of cycle ways. If you get a bike, within 6/7 miles of the city centre, you can end up on the Cospruder See and Zwenkauer See. To do the both is about a 30 mile round trip but there’s a lot of beach bars and tiki bars on the way around. One word of warning. It’s very German.
You will see things you don’t want to see. And they will scar you... unless a slightly large, naked, hairy German granny is your thing!
As I said, i’m Missing it today but on a flight out from East Midlands at 9pm tonight. I’ll be in the Penta Hotel from around midnight local if anyone is still awake and fancies a beer.

Cheers lads.

I cannot stress how happy I am not to be kicking off our season today.
-
Not tuning to Quest for the highlights won't be missed too.
-
It’s just everything. I absolutely get what some fans don’t like about modern football/PL etc. But there is nothing better than being in the top flight. I’ve been so much more engaged in football in general this summer. It’s been brilliant.

Yes, it’s good to feel relevant again.

Yes...they're showing a Chinese game currently (Premier Sports 1). This is what worked for me...The web player tries to get you to create an account, click it and it will open a new tab (OnTV) which you can then close. Go back to the original player and hit play and voila !

Is this half 2 or half 3 kick off, no team news on the twitter yet which is odd if it's half 2.

Just a reminder, whatever about preseason friendlies, any links for any competitive games will be removed for obvious reasons.

Looking forward to this.

15 man bench just to cover all our bases. I wonder how many of them will still be with us next Saturday?

We're not looking fluent at all really. Quite stodgy, quite stiff on the ball.

Free kick, Big Wes wins it.

Bring back Jed, bring back Jed, bring back Jed.

Hurrah! Nothing Prince William could do about that one.

We're not looking fluent at all really. Quite stodgy, quite stiff on the ball.
It's going to take a few months to get fully up and running with so many new faces. You can see the difference against better opposition already without the ball, we're a little disjointed all over.
Whatever!
-
Oh! That'll do nicely!

CONNNNNNNORRRRR

‘Conor for midfield, Conor for midfield, Conor for midfield!’

Bollocks my stream froze as we got that free kick so missed the goal.

I do like the look of Freddie

Bastard stream buffered for the goal. Wankers!

Two mistakes from Jack in quick succession, looking a bit rusty

HOW-RA-HAN! Missed the goal though and given up on that stream!

1-1 Poor goal to give up
This is a really good test. The other games have been far too easy. To go into Spurs on the back of those would have been foolish.
-
Pretty poor defending
-
Goal for Red Bull & Coke. 1-1.
-
Wake up commentator...
-
Jammy fucks with that deflection
-
Big deflection for their goal - is the commentator actually watching?
-

Yep they are better than us but there again they are top 4 in Germany and haven’t got 11 new players!
-
Ooooh Mings hits the bar
-
Wes looks like a bystander in this one. Expect another signing.
-

Agreed, I reckon there's not a massive difference in quality between these and spurs (3rd in the bundesliga and in the champions league) so this is much more like what we can expect. That there's nothing much in the game says that we can definitely be competitive against most teams in the premier league.
I doubt we'll come across many teams with a better attack than Werner and Poulson all season.
-
Conor looks a lot stronger doesn’t he
-
Wes looks like a bystander in this one. Expect another signing.
Needs someone up with him I reckon. Maupay, perfect.
-
Wes looks like a bystander in this one. Expect another signing.
I think he's done a decent job so far, I reckon he was in if he hadn't been fouled for the free kick we scored from.
-
Wes looks like a bystander in this one. Expect another signing.
Not getting much service tbf but he looks good when he gets the ball.
-
Who is 24?
-
Wes looks like a bystander in this one. Expect another signing.
He's done well with the little service he has had
-
Maybe heresy but McGinn looks a little poor against this quality...
-
Who is 24?
Guilbert doh
-
That ref is seriously shit
-
That ref is seriously shit
He's keeping the game flowing - by just ignoring all fouls.
-
Is this ref the one that did the escape to victory game?
F**king one eyed twat.
-
I've been glued to the cricket. How did we do first half?
-
Is this ref the one that did the escape to victory game?
F**king one eyed twat.
VAR would have sorted that game out!
-
I'm pretty happy with that half, it shows what we can expect from the top half sides in the season and has shown that we can compete with them and create scoring chances without giving up any clear cut chances for them.
-
Jack, Anwar and SJM look a bit nervy in possession. Conor, Tyrone and Engels doing well, but Jota is my pick for best player in the 1st half.
The commentator is so bad I'm finding myself pining for Captain Jack, I think I need help.
-
Flat. No tempo at all. Full backs too happy to go backwards, little through the middle and zero for Wesley to work with so far.
-
I've been glued to the cricket. How did we do first half?
It's been alright.
-
Acquitting ourselves very well against Champions League opposition. Bring on the new season, we have nothing to fear.
-

The commentator is so bad I'm finding myself pining for Captain Jack, I think I need help.
Lol. It’s bad, is it that bad?!
Think we need a little composure in the middle and wide areas. We’ve given the ball away a little sloppily so far but I think it shows that we don’t have loads to fear, particularly when you consider that the team is likely to include marvellous/luiz, trez and one other to add that bit of quality.
Jota looks decent and like Wesley although need to get people around him. He’s a bit isolated
-
I've been glued to the cricket. How did we do first half?
It's been alright.
I'm trying to watch both. I am currently taking on the features of Marty Feldman.
-
I've been glued to the cricket. How did we do first half?
Brilliant - Peace Cup on its way back home Hilts. Check in later. All is well
-
Many villa fans at the game?
-
Missed the first half. Did this kick off at 2:30pm?
-
Missed the first half. Did this kick off at 2:30pm?
Snooze you...
They prefer the 2:30pm kick off in Germany

Like watching Dean strategizing with Richard and JT. No suggestions that socks need to pulled up or sleeves rolled.
-

Far out. I'll leave it in your capable hands.
-
Like Wes now. That pass shows he has awareness
-
Ref is shit
-
Wesley beast mode!
-
Wes is a beast. Great control and strength
-
HA, Wes is a fucking tank
-
What a save!
-
Wow great save Heaton
-
What a fucking save by Heaton. Fuck me
-
Holy fuck what a save from heaton
-
Fucking hell, that was a brilliant save by Heaton
-
Unreal save from Heaton 😂
-
Great save!
-
Wow
-
Fuck me great save
-
£8m - bargain!!
Great save
-
Heaton wauw... shit definding though
-
Great save but defending was shit again there
-
In fairness this Leipzig team is very good.
-
Dirty fucker elbowing Wesley
-
Heaton superb
-
He Upameccaeno should have been off there
-
so whos not happy with the Heaton signing
blimey hes gona be a steal
-
Midfield beginning to look a bit porous.
Players getting brushed off in challenges.
-
This doesn’t feel very friendly!
-
I’m looking forward to us adding Douglas to this midfield (eventually) and seeing what Marvellous can do.
-
Grealish getting closed down so quickly from the free kick shows the step up in class
-
Love a keeper who catches a cross and makes saves....been a while.
-
These lot are a very good team, we wont play many better teams this season.I think we've acquitted ourselves quite well
-
It’s funny you know that we’ve been thinking Jack and John are the undroppables but against quality opposition they may not be good enough which is why Dean has been bringing more in
-
Fuck we should have scored there
-
Fuck we should have scored there
I assume thqat was about the break by El Ghazi, idf so I agree, great play on the wing and a good ball, McGinn should've done better with the follow-up.
-
Game needs a Villa goal, a sub, a lady streaker, or maybe a red squirrel.
-
You can see how much we need a proper right winger. Jota is really an inside right. I think given the space afforded Freddie out there Trezeguet might have some fun.
-
Awesome from Jota there
-
Engles is so calm isn’t he
-
Superb skill by Jota
-
Jota looks like he's going to be a real handful. Great skill
-
Engles is so calm isn’t he
Very. His experience is going to be critical this season. Looks to be a very good acquisition so far.
-
On this showing i really like Engels and Mings as a pairing, they need more time but both of them are strong, quick and composed.
Their guy who should already have been sent off was off the pitch injured and has just walked back on to fall on the floor, what a twat.
-
John McGinn looks very out of sorts today. Two terrible shots in a row by his high standards
-
Don’t want to wish injury on players in preseason but upanatem or whatever his name is deserves that as he’s been hacking lumps out of Wes all game
-
Jeez SJM - that should have been hammered into the back of the net.
Two opportunities not taken.
-
The ref has given them a couple of very cheap free kicks there.
-
A few changes would be nice now please Dean
-
Trez and Marv now please.
-
Good link up between AEG and Targett.
-
BREAKING NEWS: Tom Heaton is good.
-
Bearing in mind some of the challenges this ref has let go that booking for Guilbert was very soft.
-
Good play by El Ghazi and Targett there, needed a good bit of defending to cut it out.
Good save by Heaton at the other end.
This has been a really good game other than the ref, not sure how Grealish getting caught as he passed was nothing by Guilbert catching their guy seconds later was a yellow.
-
Has there been any subs from first half lineup yet?
-
Shit.
-
Fuck me AEG down and in pain
-
Fuck me AEG down and in pain
As I said this is no friendly!
-
I don’t get it. Why bring over a massive fucking group of subs and not use them?
-
Bit of a shitty challenge in a friendly
-
milking it.
-
Anwar in immense pain
-
Good to see AEG up. That could have been a lot worse
-
What the fuck is the ref doing booking AEG?
-
Bit of a shitty challenge in a friendly
He got his leg caught as well. Not really the tacklers fault.
Surprised more subs not come on tbh
-
That ref is a fucking prick
-
Trezuguet for El Ghazi. Taking no chances but it was a robust tackle to say the least.
-
AEG booked for being injured, twat ref.
-
I don’t get it. Why bring over a massive fucking group of subs and not use them?
This is clearly the team he's planning on using next week so he's getting minutes into their legs. I think we'd have seen half time changes for anyone who wasn't likely to start.
and there's the ref being a total wanker and booking AEG for being injured and not getting off the pitch quicker.
-
What a fucking twat of a ref - booking AEG because he didn't like the way he was going off
-
Jimmy on
-
AEG booked for being injured, twat ref.
Has to go off at the nearest point. Booking if you don't now.
-
This ref is a total tosser.
Fouls missed left right and centre and now a booking - for what?
-
What the fuck is the ref doing booking AEG?
I’m guessing he called him the equivalent of a German sausage
-
He obviously wants to give players 90 mins. You know the real season starts next week??
-
AEG booked for being injured, twat ref.
Has to go off at the nearest point. Booking if you don't now.
Bit harsh in a friendly.

Dem be the rulez.
-
Can we take Jack off now please FFS
Tyrone getting involved. Fucking love it
-
more milking
-
1-2.
-
gooooooooooool!
-
Ref is proper proper shit
-
YESSSSSSS 2-1
-
Ha! Have that Hun.
-
2-1 Villa!!!!
-
2-1! Conor again.
-
Still got the receipts for Luiz and Nakamba?
-
big defelection on that one, but you earn the luck by hitting clean.
-
We want three.
-
There really is something to be said for having a set piece specialist in the side
-
Think the word is schaudenfreude.
-
Good noise from our lot
-
Has our son touched the ball?
-
Ooooh cross shot not far away Jota
-
Do all these yellows just get scrapped after this game?
-
Do all these yellows just get scrapped after this game?
yep
-
1. Connor
2. Luiz
3. Marvellous
-
I know they have only been pre-season games he has played in but how did Jota ever end up at Small Heath?
-
At what point will people stop using the Fulham comparison, it's driving me insane now
-
What formation are we playing now? Jota seems to be centre forward at the moment
-
24 looks good.
-
Christ how's he missed that?
-
oooooooooooohhhhhh Fucking great ball again by Conor.
-
How did that not end up in the net?!
-
Ha, Tyrone knows.
-
And that ladies and gentlemen is why Tyrone plays at the back and not up front.
-
Heaton is just such a safe pair of hands back there
-
1-3.
-
great ball in, not sure how Mings didn't get a toe on it, i wonder if he thought it was going in and didn't want to 'steal' the hattrick from Conor.
-
SJM!
-
3-1 McGinn! Great finish.
-
YESSSSSSSSSS SJM
-
A third from Grealish, McGinn or Wesley would be perfect.
Done, thanks.
-
John McGinn!
-
Bring 'em all on, we don't sweat nobody.
-
3-1
-
I thing we’re looking the fittest team now.
-
Class
-
Wow. Great work by Trezeguet and cracking finish by SJM
-
Bloody hell.... trez looked sharp there, and Ginniesta
-
Brilliant pass from Trez and then a very good finish.
-
John and Dean, "did we just buy the Premier League"
-
By the way gents we are playing a Champions League team with a side that is still coming together
-
Excellent goal SJM!
-
Great goal, superb ball byTrezeguet , great finish by SJM
-
Great crossfield ball from Trez (showed good pace to get to the ball in the first place) and SJM finally seems to have put his shooting boots on!!
-
Must be disheartening for the rest of the PL knowing they're playing for second place.
-
We are going to rely heavily this season on goals from midfield. And so far it looks very good.
-
What a pass from Trezeguet And great Sjm finish, but one thin was better than all that......
The smiles and look on deano and JT faces . As if they can’t believe
-
Think we saw how important Heaton's going to be. We would have been 2-1 down but for him.
-
They may as well hand over the title now.

The sort of smiles as if to suggest they're saying to eachother that they've got some player on their hands here.

agreed.many thanks for an enjoyable watch
-
Cracking in the end. Good work out for next week when we'll be under the dosh a lot. Hourihane excellent.
-
Good competitive performance against a quality side.
Heaton tremendous
Conor says to Deano "pick me"
Trez looking like a shoe in for Spurs, looking at the El Ghazi injury
Leipzig - dirty fuckers
Commentator - Complete cock.
-
It wasn’t very friendly was it?
Heaton man of the match. He is going to be worth 10 points next season.
Wes looked a little isolated.
Engles looks very assured. Jota was a bit in and out.
A great work out, Leipzig are a bloody good team.
I think we are going to win the league now.
-
Motm was Engels for me, I thought he did a great job against a very good strike pairing, mings, Heaton and Houri all just behind him.
-
We're doing a Villa.
-
Things are feeling good right now, right? 8) 8) 8)
-
We rode our luck a bit in the second-half, but finished the stronger and deserved the win against a very dirty opposition and a crap ref (and commentator).
Roll on Spurs where hopefully Jack, SJM and if fit, Anwar have better games. Conor, Mings, Engels and Heaton look sound and Jota was outstanding despite drifting in and out of the game a little in the 2nd half.
-
Trez came on....only had opportunity to one thing, and did it brilliantly. The pass to Mcginniesta was beautiful.

It's only to be expected that we are going to look choppy at times. We are going into a much better standard league versus most teams that have made minimal changes to last year. But it shows that we have options and no way can any player drop their performance levels. We have completed signings yet to come in and contribute, we have new players yet to be purchased and some will leave. We might not have a settled line up until October. But it's going to be a lot of fun on this newest journey.

It all sounds vary good. When does the Bundesliga season start? I remember getting excited when we beat Milan in a pre-season friendly a number of years ago but they were 2 or 3 weeks behind in their preparation. Presumably Leipzig are the same.

Just a week behind us

They play next Sunday in the German Cup.
-
Were Marvelous or Luiz among the subs? Guessing not and it’s Hourihane against spurs? In which case great for him to get a couple of confidence enhancing goals today.
-
Marvelous was, Luiz wasn't. I don't recall seeing Hogan's name among them, I'll have to have another look.
-
Wes looked way too isolated to me. Another forward is a must imo
-
Hogan was named as a sub.
-
Wes looked way too isolated to me. Another forward is a must imo
Agree 100% I see Maupay didn't play today.
-
Wes looked way too isolated to me. Another forward is a must imo
I don't think bringing in another forward makes him less isolated.
-

Agree. Conversely, I thought kodjia looked sharp and confident when he came on I agree with people elsewhere on here that he could have a decent cameo role this reason - depending on whether we do any more transfer business.
-
A good workout today. Well done Conor and John on getting the goals. Mings was unlucky with his effort off the bar. Heaton showed his worth. Great work UTV!
-
I think Big Wes did well today. Looks a good player.
-
Didn't see it but fantastic win that, Leipzig only a week behind us in preparation but very good team.
Looking at the stats it appeared one of those backs to the wall away wins we used to be so good at under MON. I think that looks promising as I think we'll be stronger at home than away this season which bucks the trend of majority of our recent prem seasons.
Baring a late injury I imagine the 11 we started today is what we'll see at Spurs. Lack of subs seems to indicate it.
-
I wouldn't call it a back to the walls win. I would suggest today there was a very defined period of time that they were the better team. And overall they are despite the win. But we showed plenty of invention ourselves, plenty of things to be optimistic about and very optimistic about and a good number of things to work on. Today was essential because will be better than this lot. They have a very settled line up, with some really outstanding players and arguably the best forward in the PL. This game showed how much faster teams will press us, how much they will move without the ball, and how much more strategic the coaching will be against us. We gave a very account of ourselves overall.
-
My tinterweb is a bit dodgy, what was the score please?
-
1-3 us.

Judging it on Leipzig having 8-9 corners today, seemed to have flurry at start of the match and quite a few at start of second half.
-
There was some lovely wide play today which is a novel thing for us. Genuine attacking quality from fullbacks on both sides.
Targett and ah ghazi seem to have a good understanding already. One lovely moment where el ghazi stood up a defender and back heeled the ball to Targett who was overlapping. The kind of nice little move that suggests they are on the same wavelength.
-
That Heaton one handed save with the ball going in the opposite direction was just ridiculous - kept fit he’ll get us 10 extra points - brilliant keeper. Great result but Spurs will be a different prospect altogether. Think we need to work out how to get Wes into play more - maybe he should come back a bit more and play like a forward midfielder to hold it up and pass to runners. Get it wide then run into the box.
-
Any highlights available yet?

I'd say we were slightly the better side in the first half but in general it was pretty even. After half time they were the better side for about 25 minutes but once we got through that we finished the game better and were on top when we got our 2 late-ish goals.

Great to finish pre-season with a win, regardless of where they are fitness wise. We have some very talented players.
-
Found some highlights on YouTube by google search. Hope it works.

Not being rolled over by Spuds and giving them a game will auger well for the season. Fingers crossed we've gelled enough to start the season quickly.
-
Solid work finding that Nelson
The save from Heaton is just outstanding. It’s one of those where every one of our players, especially the defenders just feels a little taller knowing he’s back there.
-
RB are a very good team having qualified for Champions League in the Bundesliga so it’s a good result but their season doesn’t start till a week later than us you could say that they were a bit undercooked thus the late goals for us. Still a good win.

They do have a cup game next week though so they won't be far behind in fitness, if at all. I certainly don't think our goals came because they, as a team, were visibly tiring more than us.
-
Look at what happened in Europe last season though. Top European sides tired to English opposition because they’re not used to the intensity English teams now play at.

Our left back seemed AWOL for a few of their chances. Heaton made some cracking saves.
-
Our left back seemed AWOL for a few of their chances.
I'll need to watch again but I thought Tyrone was the man to leave his player in acres of space on a couple of occasions.
-
Nothing on the El Ghazi injured since the game? I suspect he was ok. It didn't look like a cleve tackle but his ankle didn't seem to twist in the tackle, so hopefully, he will be ok. Trezeguet and Jota can start on thew wings if needed next week I guess. I can see us signing another winger this week but they are unlikely to go straight in to the first 11 I would have thought.

Just watched the highlights on YouTube from AVFC. Properly impressive and nice work from Trez or whatever we’re calling him for the final goal ( as well as the by now routine quality finish from SJM). Was very impressed by the new lad Harry Han who looked a real upgrade on Conor. :)

We've got more wins against Leipzig this weekend than Small Heath have against Villa this in the last fourteen years.

Per Pravda Twitter, run outs for Marv, Henri, Bjarney, Keinan, Trez, Hogan, Bree, Kod

The Egyptian fanbase with their love of Trezeguet on the Pravda FB Page are getting tiresome.
-
Our left back seemed AWOL for a few of their chances. Heaton made some cracking saves.
Agree with you on this...Target was completely out of position in a different postcode. I also noticed this against Charlton (or was it Walsall?) as they had a period where they kept getting behind us down our left. I have a feeling that left back will continue to be our achilles heel this season and teams may target Target.
-
A lot of teams will play long diagonal balls in behind our absent full backs this season. It will become a thing as we will be so attack minded.

If Targett misses the mark we'll be able to call Hause.

Cheers bud. Never got chance yesterday (work) enjoyed the second chance :-)))
-
Watched the repeat showing today and got to give credit to Conor. Apart from a couple of misplaced passes (which may get punished against the better teams), he’s looking in good condition and looked comfortable playing the DM role. His set pieces are definitely an asset to his game, so will be interesting to see how Dean will set up the team when Marvelous and Luiz are up to speed.
-
Watched it today, thought it was a very "competitive" game! Good showings from Engels, Freddy and some fantastic saves from Tom Heaton. I didn't realise that Leipzig had finished third last season, so it was a good preseason test. Good result after soaking up some considerable pressure from a decent team. Agree Conor played well. Hope Wesley can start creating and taking chances as he settles in, but not to worry, I'm sure DS has his thoughts and plans in place.
