YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Take that Potato Head!!!!!! I fucking love you Villa
And while the focus will be on the winning goals, we’ll fucking played Jed Steer for that penalty save

Carlsberg don't do injury times...
Fair play Wigan (and Brentford).

Particularly pleased for Tammy and Albert as it hadn't been going their way recently.
-
I do not want to magnanimous in victory so FUCK OFF Bruce.
-
Wow. Just fucking WOW. Poor in the second half I was just hoping to hold on for a point. Then BOOM! All the other results going our way as well
-
Birthday treat complete. Thank you villa. I can now have a glass of fizz.
Thought this game had massive potential to be a banana skin. And until 92 minutes, it was!
-
6 league wins in a row. Witchcraft.
-
We were shite 2nd half and snatch it at the death, thats the championship for ya
-
Well that puts the cat amongst the pigeons. I reckon we can catch the Tesco’s now
-
Oh YES!
-
We really needed that, vital to get those 3 points, we need to be near as damn it secured by the time we face Leeds and Norwich, Rotherham next in a few days time, what a game that is going to be.
-
Bruce out!
-
Get in Villa!!!
-
Is this the best away day for the Villa lads since Wednesday away August 1991? Chico Hamilton III was probably there, Ads was only a precocious little bugger, anyone at both today's and BFR's debut? DorsetVillain no doubt, bless him. Enjoy lads.
-
I do not want to magnanimous in victory so FUCK OFF Bruce.
Haha.
A very enjoyable ending, mate
-
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Chew on that PH.
-
Play offs are mathematically in our hands now.
Massive week. Rotherham then Bristol City. Come on Villa!!!!

Yep just looking at that. A massive, massive 10 mins.
-
In our hands now, which a month ago seemed impossible! Cracking result, which keeps the momentum going into the final straight! COME ON YOU VILLANS! :)
-
Bloody hek, every result went our way aswell!
-
Dear Potato Head and Alan Biggs,
Go fuck yourselves.
Lots of love,

It's JPA's birthday tomorrow, and he shares it with me. Cheers Villa! I fucking loved that!

Goodison Park...Ashley Young.
-
In our hands but would like to get is sewn up in the next 3/4 games as the finish on paper looks tough as both Leeds and Norwich could still be scrapping for automatic or the title.
Didn’t sound great on the radio second half but sometimes you’ve just got to win ugly.
-
I'm starting to believe!
-
FUCKIN GET IN!!!
-
Amazing great effort, daughters 18th in my back garden a happy place!!
-
Dear Potato Head and Alan Biggs,
Go fuck yourselves.
Lots of love,

Succint and to the point. ViD approves this message.
Mr Nicholl does too.
-
Don’t care about the Bruce aspect, alright fella, I do know that I’m beginning to LOVE this team. Brilliant result.
-
The joy of an injury time winner, then a second injury time winner, then realising you've more or less sealed a top-six finish, then also realising you've killed off Potato Head's chances of sealing a top-six finish...that makes for a bloody good day's work.
-
Potato Head should thank his lucky scares he caught us on a bad day.
-
Smash and grab. We are not real football fans Mr.PH..Well bang bang and fuck off....I love aston villa...yessssssss...on the piss tonight
-
That critical gap to 7th is now 3 points.
-
Still in shock
still laughing
crying
running round my business
what a day had PPI refund and then this beauty
I was getting so frustrated at the end too , moaning at Kodjia etc and thinking just take the point then and then the creme rises to the top . .. fecking brilliant ..chips all round tonight from a massive pototo head ...
-
Well that puts the cat amongst the pigeons. I reckon we can catch the Tesco’s now
If only we had done them at VP
-
For the first time ever i'm looking forward to Potato Head's post-match interview.
-
Thoughts and prayers go out to Alan Biggs tonight.
The arse licking twat.
-
Job done next.
How was our fans with Bruce? Hopefully decent enough - more integrity than that twat O'Neil

Tuesday night tits v bags is an interesting one.
-
That critical gap to 7th is now 3 points.
And even if Derby win their game in hand their GD is much worse than ours. It's ours to fuck up, and we never do that.
-
What happened to Hause? Great to score two so late!
-
Dear Potato Head and Alan Biggs,
Go fuck yourselves.
Lots of love,
AVFC
I was wondering how to put my feelings into words, can’t beat your excellent summary!
-

Yes, absolutely nothing can go wrong from here.
-
Great result, poor performance.
Shame about the moron that ran on the pitch.
-
For the first time ever i'm looking forward to Potato Head's post-match interview.
"Well there you go what can you do. We absolutely hammered them for 92 minutes could have had 3 or 4 Fletch was so unlucky. We outplayed a team full of players costing £250M and got nothing for it nothing. People I have no doubt will criticise us for taking the lead and then throwing it away but no way we deserved that, but what can you do this the Championship"
-
I only had the thread to follow the game tonight.
Football can be a crazy game.
After Jed Steer saved that second half penalty and we were on the ropes I was probably like most of you and would have taken a point.
The dream goes on to Rotherham on Wednesday.
It's after midnight here and no one to celebrate with.
No matter.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Alan Biggs tonight.
The arse licking twat.
He's strangely almost magnanimous on his Twatter (https://twitter.com/AlanBiggs1?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor)
-
Mashed potato
Great result, especially with the other scores all going our way. In our hands now given we have much better goal difference the Derby even if they win the game in hand.
Starting to think we are going up! Unbelievable the difference since Grealish came back (and Mings came in). How good would it be if we smashed Albion in the playoff final.
-

"It's one of those horrible ones."
-
I was thinking it would be a good point considering how the second half was going.
Absolutely superb ending, just brilliant. I've had a right shitty few days, and that's just such a huge lift for me.
Everyone else dropping points, just perfect!
Wednesday say WAWAW
Villa say WWWWWW
-
This for me was the most enjoyable win of the season. I’m absolutely over the moon
-
Fucking ace, been driving down to Cornwall and I see this!
-
That win while so vital for the playoffs also means we finish above Small Heath AGAIN Mind the gap noses
-
Fair to say we have momentum ha ha C'mon you Villa boys! All other results went our way too.
-
Great result, SJM 4 goals in 4, what a player and good to see Tammy getting an away goal. Rotherham away next, then a massive game on Saturday. Well done Deano.
UP THE VILLA
-
Fuck off Bruce you ******.
Deserved something? You made the game dire with your long ball punt. You had one fucking chance, a penalty for all your huff and puff.
Very poor second half from us, until the 90th minute when they retreated completely. We should have scored twice just before we did, with Kodjia missing sitters.
Poor in our use of the ball. Whelan a yard off it and the midfield forcing it.
But you grind it out and we did. Get the fuck in! Head pounding, absolute limbs in the away end.
-
Doubt my 5 year old daughter will ever want to sit on my lap and watch the Villa again, frightened the poor girl to death when Albert scored then again a minute later!!
Get the fuck in!!!!!!!
What a result, I love you AVFC!

i did the same with my missus and little lad.
-
Looking at it objectionally, which is obviously easier after a win, I think that was Jack and Mings were well below par today. I feel the momentum of our recent run got us that victory. All the same it feels fucking brilliant and they have both more than earned an off day!
-
What happened to Hause? Hope he's ok?
-
Steady lads, Rotherham and then Bristol City, come through those 2 with 6 points and we are in the Boss seat.
Looking forward to being there Saturday.

I’m so disappointed for the players because they didn’t deserve that. We missed big opportunities but the way we played.. sometimes this game is cruel and that’s football
We’re going home disappointed but sometimes you don’t get what you deserve. The way we went at them, I couldn’t ask for anything more. It wasn’t our day
Fletcher has been brilliant since I walked into the building but the penalty was maybe the turning point but even after that we kept going and I couldn’t ask for more
Bannan has a hamstring and who knows. It seems a constant pain for us all. Substitution after substitution. We have to get to the bottom of that
The second half in particular, it was an onslaught but we couldn’t get the goal. But it’s not about how you play, it’s about the result and those key moments
-
I was not confident....I am now!!!
-
Games like today are the reason why I invest so much of my time in the mighty claret and blue.
We persevered and it was damn ugly for the majority of it but we battled it out till the death and came through victorious.
-
How the afternoon unfolded with other games...
All the games going our way so far at half time:
Sheff Weds 1-1 Villa
Bristol 0-1 Wigan
Swansea 2-0 Boro
Rotherham 1-1 Forest
Preston 0-1 Sheff Utd
Brentford 2-2 Derby
Full time:
Sheff Weds 1-3 Villa
Bristol 2-2 Wigan
Swansea 3-1 Boro
Rotherham 2-1 Forest
Preston 0-1 Sheff Utd
Brentford 3-3 Derby
We weren't at our best today, but we grinded out an amazing 3pts all the other results went our way and even better than expected...our playoff position is now in our own hands. Bristol have to come to Villa Park, and Derby have to go to Bristol.
The Championship table makes for pleasant viewing tonight. Rotherham away and Bristol at VP in the next week...may the promotion juggernaut go marching on, on, on!!!

We did not play well today by all accounts but at this stage of the season it is all about results and not so much how you play .

Steve, any comments about fucking Jed Steer off to League One and trying your level best to off load Albert Adomah?
Steve?
Steve?

Potato Head has lost this fixture twice this season!

Some comedy from Owls Talk ;D ;D ;D
Can't actually believe the delusion by Aston Villa the club and their fans, both actually believe they deserved the win even though:
• their equaliser is from absolutely nothing!
• we absolutely murder them 2nd half!
• the blatant cheating by Villa all game (Grealish and his diving, their player run into Hutch he then looks at ref and begs for a free kick, we get to the edge of the box and the ref stops the game, then Villa player is fine)
• the keeper makes a lucky save off Fletcher's penalty
• we should have a 2nd penalty for a clear 2 handed push on Hooper when the ball's in the air
• the 2nd Villa goal is totally undeserved and lucky to squeeze it in from the angle he did
• both the 1st and 3rd goals come off long balls they were playing all game!
I honestly dunno how they are where they are, all they are on that performance is a poo long ball team that are lucky!
I really hope they fizz the playoffs up and stay in the Championship just so we can do them over next season the set of deluded twats!!!

I had a butchers' on there post match: & they really do have some proper tools (supposedly) supporting their club. Some things never change.
-
It was those daft bastards that had a meltdown after we won there last season aswell. Something about writing to the EFL about the referee if i remember correctly.
-
I'm still not daring to believe, don't want to jinx it. Well done Villa, keep your eyes on the prize.

Personally I always thought squeezing a shot in from a tight angle was quite a skillful manoeuvre. But apparently is is just luck.

“That’s the championship for you”
Has never sounded so wonderful
-
Fantastic result!! With other results going our way it sets us up nicely. 6 out of 6 is brilliant, but we've got to keep this winning run going. Pleased for Steer and Adomah especially after way they were treated by Bruce. At this stage of the season, its about finding a way to win games and we done that today. It's taking my CABB AGES to take me to my next pub! Cringy I know but I'm so happy about this result! FOPH. UTV! VTID!

And the penalty save wasn’t lucky, it was a shit attempt. Lmao.

Well 'Bonnie ' Steve. We may not these days have Des 'Bremner' but that late 'Avalanche' of goals including the 'Bute' from Tammy put paid to your 'Record'. The 'lionheart' qualities of the boys in 'claret' was 'majestic '. The 'courage' of the 'smiths comet' means the play offs are on the 'horizon'......In potato varieties that means we pissed on your chips.

Their goal and their penalty both came from long balls!

• both the 1st and 3rd goals come off long balls they were playing all game!
What match was he/she watching. Long ball for the 3rd? How? The first was a superb 60 yarder crossfield ball by Mings picking up Green on the wide right who showed great skill and composure to square it back for McGinn's delightful conversion. FFS you lot will never see anything like under PH.
-
a) lol @ the long ball comment from a fan of a Steve Bruce team - oh boy buddy you just wait
b) since even the MON days we've been lamenting what our team might be if only it utilised the midfield, and now we have a team based on midfield and I for one fucking like it
c) Dean Smith has done so exceptionally well to turn this around and instill a winning mentality that doesn't just retain his footballing principles, but is actually based on them, and for this he really deserves so much credit
d) UTFV

Before we forget, McGinn's goal. Messi would have been proud of scoring that one. Amazing technique.

Just been talking to my Villa supporting neighbour at the pub. If our Three Tuns XXX addled heads are correct then:
One month ago (March 2nd) we were in 14th place.
Six games later (April 6th) 5th place
F 16
A 3
Points 18
Clean sheets 3
I am fooking delighted. UTV!
And may I join in the scorn being poured on Tater Head? I may? Thank you. Fook off Stevie.

The first, there's no way in the world Green was keeping that in. What a goal! And Jed Steer, I think you've staked a good claim for the "When did you start to really believe?" moment.
I'm so happy!!!!
-
The beginning of of around 12 months worth of hard luck stories for Bruce, before Wednesday fuck him off. If he lasts that long.
-
Beat Rotherham and I assume it will be the first time we've won 7 consecutive league games since 1990.
-
We have to be immensely professional now in the next game. Yes we should win it, but take nothing at all for granted. I would absolutely bring in Hourihane or BB for Whelan because he needs a breather. Looks like Hause for AT will be an enforced change.
-
-
We have to be immensely professional now in the next game.
Agreed.
I'd send the U14 side to see off Rotherham.
-
We were not at our best, and SWFC actually played some decent stuff - BB showing us the full range of his skills until his premature departure, and they played the long ball out to the wings very effectviely.
Grealish was very in and out; both of our wingers were poor for the most part.
Hey-ho: 3 great points on a day when many of the other results went our way.
The atmosphere in the Villa end today was awesome - well done, all!
-
Salty potato with extra chips on shoulders.
-
Just watched the last few minutes. Fuck me, well done lads.
-
I'm concerned that Hause has a hip injury according to Deano. Yet another CB injury! We seem cursed in defence. Chessie hopefully fit soon....
-
Brilliant result - we were at a do celebrating MDC Jnr's Under 8's winning their cup final today and when McGinn equalised he was running around giving the thumbs to the back of his McGinn shirt. They all went crazy when we won at the end. Or it might have been the pop.
-

Axel played there when he came on didn't he?

I was hoping to see Axel and Tyrone at CB and Hause at Left back...

I can understand them being pissed off. Let's get back to them after the winless run between now at their nil-nil with Luton on the first day of next season.
-
Deano.....’scenes in there’
I fucking love it.

What we are doing right now is what Fulham did last year in making their run to the playoffs. They just kept finding ways to win games. Other clubs and fans are looking at us now in the same way and it's daunting knowing we have goals everywhere and now a defence that has conceded only 3 in 6 games since Jack came back against Derby.
-
Can anyone tell me when was the last time we won six on the bounce coz I can’t remember anytime recently?

Last season I think (7).
-
7 consecutive league victories in 2017-18.

7 consecutive league victories in 2017-18.
we had the FA Cup defeat at home to Peterborough in the middle. Most of the times with Bruce just when it seemed we would get going we followed it up with a spell that dismantled all the good work.
-
7 consecutive league victories in 2017-18.
Really? Blimey, must be the wine, and old age.
-
Yeah, imilar run last season a bit earlier on pushed us from outside the top 6 to automatic promotion contenders. It's come a bit later this year, which might play into our hands in the playoffs.
-
I’m so disappointed for the players because they didn’t deserve that.
I can’t tell if that’s genuine or a piss take!
It must be genuine as it sounds so familiar to so many of his post match interviews in his time with us.
-
The way John McGinn shields the ball is a wonder to behold! You NEVER feel he’ll be pushed off it. The armadillo of footy, great player.
-
As others have said 2nd half we didn't turn up, you would have thought Bruce had been into our dressing room and given the half time chat. Final 5 minutes were absolutely what football is all about. The crowd were absolutely immense today, the best in an absolute age. Roll on Rovrum
-
Bannan going off and our subs changed the game. Great stuff.
-
Super
-
Their "dominance" was territorial. We were very sloppy giving it away and that contributed, but bar Fletcher's penalty, they've created what? A Reach curling shot that went a yard wide? Slung in plenty of crosses?
Not exactly Villa in full pomp and the likes of Derby being lucky to only be 4 down was it.
At the other end, Kodjia has missed two golden chances and we've actually gone and scored 2. So fuck off Bruce.

Only caught the 2nd half as I was on a course earlier. Not a great performance in that period, but with the quality we have in the final third, we’ve always got a chance in games like that.

Agreed, but we'll need to be much better than we were against Blackburn and Wednesday in the second halves, if we want to stay in the play offs and actually win them. Still, I'll take a 3-1 win in these circumstances any day of the week. With every other result going for us, it's an almost perfect weekend.

Beat Rotherham and I assume it will be the first time we've won 7 consecutive league games since 1990.
That's a very basic error for you to make Mr Shin.

It’s hard to keep the levels as we have enjoyed of late. In a funny way this dip in form and ability to keep winning will benefit the players. That we don’t have play Derby level stuff to win. We kept at it vs Blackburn and today got victories in very different ways. Character building.

Didn’t we do it last season at the turn of the year?

I think the midfield needs freshening up.
Adomah and Hourihane rose start Wednesday for me.

True but I was expecting something along the lines of “the penalty goes in and we go on to score more and win comfortably, their goals wre offside, Mings/Whelan should have been sent off, etc”.
-
7 consecutive league victories in 2017-18.
-
Marvellous stuff. What a great way to win a very tough fixture.
I'm very happy today.
-
Is this the best away day for the Villa lads since Wednesday away August 1991? Chico Hamilton III was probably there, Ads was only a precocious little bugger, anyone at both today's and BFR's debut? DorsetVillain no doubt, bless him. Enjoy lads.
I was there as a callow youth of 24. in fact it was last time I went to Hillsborough.
That day was good. Today was better !
-
Dippy woman on sky sports news just now - JOSH McGinn got the equaliser! Josh?
-
We'll be there, we'll be there, we'll be there or thereabouts, we'll be there or thereabouts.
-
We were really poor second half and didn’t look after the ball which is unlike us under Smith.
But 2 goals in injury time make for a fantastic away day!
Not as good as 75 but a great Villa away day!
-
Interesting on Twitter, Deano had them do a recovery session at BMH. Few snaps of them in the cryo chamber and the like.

Heard the first half on WM. No idea of anything else happening until persuaded my mom to turn over from the Grand National coverage to watch final score, about 5 minutes from the end. Back in my car, heard Dean Smith interviewed on WM. Had no idea Jed Steer saved a penalty until then. Made the victory feel so much sweeter.

Sounds good to me...every little helps with a big week ahead of us. Hope their minds and bodies remain focused on the job in hand.
Agree the midfield needs freshening up. As great as Whelan has been lately, he simply doesn't have the legs to manage 3 games in a week so makes sense to rest him for at least Rotherham.

Just home. One of those away trips I’ll remember for many a year, it was that good; not the match per se, but the atmosphere and general feeling that it meant something special. I get a feeling we are about to go on a rather good trip.
Night all.
-
It's worth remembering that today was their biggest game of the season; do or die. Despite all their effort, we ended their season.
Oh, and just when you think today couldn't get any better I read this on a Wednesday forum: "Can't wait for Bruce to get 'his team'". Poor sod.

It’s all very much like some Sunderland fans heralding the arrival of MON.

I was having a quick mooch myself yesterday, and saw a thread somewhere proposing selling their ground in order to comply with ffp. So, erm, yeah, good luck with that.

Great that you guys travel up from the South Coast. Enjoy!

Spare a thought for me. I was on top of the Rockefella Tower in New York City when we were 1-1 and derby and Bristol were winning wanting to throw myself off! Got to the Starbucks to find out we were winning 3-1 happy fcukin days! Wrestlemania tomorrow!

I can understand them being pissed off. Let's get back to them after the winless run between now at their nil-nil with Luton on the first day of next season.
TBF I've just had a look and this bloke was on the arse end of some abuse for not calling it as it is.

I don't usually look at other teams forums but they have a 7 page thread which is mainly talking shite about Villa fans...and it looks like pre-game quotes from some on here. Amongst other things, apparently we're deluded arrogant self entitled twats and we never like Bruce because he managed Blose (yeah one of them went there with that old chestnut). We aren't popular with some of them bread cakes tut north! :D
-
Looked at a few Vlogs today from the Sheffield Wed game on YouTube.
Even in the Sheffield Wednesday ones the thing that really stood out was how loud the Villa fans were.
Congratulations to all who went up there.
Fantastic support.

They really are bad losers. It was the same when we beat them there last season. They had a petition to ban the ref and apparently we had paid him off. Putting 7 goals past them in two games on their turf obviously means nothing. It's all down to cheating and bunging the ref! Fuck 'em and fuck PH.

We are better than everybody in every way imaginable.

Don't under estimate team spirit, it looks fantastic at the moment. Well done boys UTV
-
It would have been nice to have been on form and outplayed them good and proper, however a smash and grab is well worth just to see and hear Bruce’s reaction!
Superb spirit from our team.

Could someone who went to the game provide individual marks for each player please, or give an indication as to how each one played? Many thanks.
Here's a view:
Steer - 7: did everything asked of him, including the penalty-save.
Elmo - 5: him, Green and Hause were a mess on the SW goal. Generally did okay, but not for the long-term.
Taylor - 5: did nothing particularly wrong but doesn't get down the line enough
Mings - 6: not his best game, giving away the penalty and there were one or two passes that went dangerously straight to an oppo striker. His pass for our first goal was, however, sublime.
Hause - 6: looked comfortable until his injury. Both him and Mings were playing against very physical and experienced strikers and both dealt with them; just.
Whelan - 6: looked leggy early, but did some good covering work and broke up play at important times.
SJM - 8: wonderfully mobile, even if he didn't nail down Bannan, as I thought he might have done. What a goal!
SJG - 6: not his best game, by a long way. I personally think Bannan bettered him.
Green - 4: apart from the chase and pass for our first, he was poor - didn't cover back enough and wasn't proactive enough* when we had the ball
Abraham - 6: did okay with what he got ... which was, not enough
El Ghazi - 5: did okay but - like Green - not proactive enough*
Tuanzebe - 6: difficult coming into this game after a long lay-off; understandably cautious with the ball but did okay.
Adomah - 7: I'm not a fan of AA, but - yes - he did well when he came on!
Kodjia - 6: apart from a ridiculous volley at the far post (when a header would have been more effective), he did okay in the short time he was on.
The noise from the Villa fans was really, really impressive today: a solid wall of sound for much of the game.
* for me, being "more proactive" means moving into space at pace rather than standing on the touchline waiting for the ball (because when it arrives the only real option is to pass it back to the full back). There are times when both Green and El Ghazi show real promise, but it really is only in short flashes.

Watch the Sky highlights, which you probably have, and listen to the roar from our lot when Steer saves the penalty then keep listening as it gets cranked up a notch as the ball is eventually cleared. Amazing support.

I couldn’t go yesterday but have watched all the highlights, vlogs and Twitter stuff. Great support from everyone who went.
As the kids say.....Scenes! Limbs!

Didn't go yesterday but watched most of it on Facebok via someone holding his phone up to his TV Screen. The picture wasn't wasn't as crap as it sounds although it was a minute or two behind.
It looked a similar game to last year. Didn't play particularly well but scored two late goals. Mings looked as if he had one of his worse games for us (those who were there can correct me of that) although I thought the pen looked harsh. Great win though and we keep on going.

I’m another one who was there for Big Ron’s first game in ‘91 and also yesterday. Both great, memorable away days.
Yesterday reminded me of Stoke away under Lambert when it was 1-1 late on, only for us to nick two late goals leading to carnage in the away end. Spookily it then popped up on my timeline that that Stoke game was 6 years ago to the day yesterday!
Luckily for me I’d also had a bet on us to win 3-1 both 6 years ago and also yesterday!
-
Is Kodjia trying to imitate Chris Gayle wit his new hair style?

Yeah, the link to BFR's first game was buzzing around my head yesterday, too.
There's nothing more exhilarating than a game such as yesterday's. What a buzz!!

Not sure that is relevant in this case as we won 4-2 there last year after trailing.
Similarities in both games with the late goals.
It was a great win given that we probably didn't deserve it on the balance of play although in retrospect they didn't have a lot of shots on goal.
I thought Axel was very composed when he came on which helped as Mings had a couple of uncharacteristic shaky moments.
Although Green did well for the first goal, I think Kodjia is a better player and is more of a threat.
-
Fletcher is a wiley old fox of a centre forward, it was a decent battle.

Before yesterday has there ever been a manager who has been on the losing end of the same fixture twice in a season, managing different teams?

that's the Championship for you.

Kodjias movement around Jack for the second goal was superb, cracking shot too.

I'm just utterly bemused by how they all think they played well.
2nd half it was poor fare. They had more of the ball and higher up the park, as we were so sloppy with it and couldn't shorten our game.
But they created nowt beyond the penalty. If slinging crosses in that were blocked or headed away or Taylor making tackles counts as chances, then crikey, once they reach peak Bruce we will see the worm turn.

Yes bits of Hillsborough replanted all across Birmingham, including our old house in Northfield!
-
Before yesterday has there ever been a manager who has been on the losing end of the same fixture twice in a season, managing different teams?
Yes, Paul Cook.
-
In fairness to Bananaman, that ''Hollywood pass'' of his was a recurring feature of Wednesday's best moments yesterday. There were also a couple of nice back-flicks/give and goes from Bannan, not sure if he's usually as consistent and eye-catching as that but he always seems to be up for playing us, understandably I guess.
Interesting to contrast his styles with the more high-octane energy of McGinn and the technique and ball-carrying excellence of Grealish. I guess Whelan's ability to spray long passes into dangerous areas would be the closest to Bannan's game. Ironically it was a centre-back, Mings, who played the best one of the game for McGinn's goal.
Have to say I loved Uncle Albert's walking-stick celebration, anyone know if there's a background story to that?
And the official highlights doesn't show uninterrupted footage from our second to third goals - I think TV posted a clip from Pravda's live coverage with Tony Daley on co-comms and it's just fantastic to watch two minutes of goalscoring Villa and unbridled joy. Can't remember seeing us score goals in such quick succession after winning possession from the restart and grabbing another one. Wonderful build-up for Tammy's goal too.
-
Uncle Albert was taking the Mickey out of wor Bruce with his celebration, as he tried to force him out.
-

Yes, Paul Cook.
From our FB Page:
As well as potato head got another one.Tax dodge harry in the 2004/05 season. As pompey manager southampton won 2-1 then later that season. As southampton manager lost on his return to fratton park

Given what PH and their fans have been alleging, I was wondering if maybe the Villa youtube highlights might be a tad biased. So, in the interests of impartiality, I'm about to watch the official SWFC version. 4 mimutes longer, I therefore assume it must contain the missing footage of Steer making save after save.
20 seconds in, and they can fuck off into that stinking shit pit that I'd like to consign most sides that play in blue to. Fucking throbber.
Here, if you want to put your foot through the telly

20 seconds in, and they can fuck off into that stinking shit pit that I'd like to consign most sides that play in blue to. Fucking throbber.
Here, if you want to put your foot through the telly
Maroon? colour blind twat

What a ******. I got to 20 seconds as well.
It makes beating them all the sweeter.
-
to be fair . Villa were getting on top for 5 minutes before and created a lot more than wednesday with Kodjia crap volley and a good chance when AA broke but played the wrong ball.

That’s what I thought. Aston Villa in there traditional colours of maroon and blue. FFS

We won they lost. We got three points they got fuck all. That’s all the history books will say

Great day out with the NW Lions. Mason Arms top notch, proper sawdust pub. The tram ride too and back no different to previous seasons rammed and always one or two dickheads on them.
The ground remains a shithole and is even worse for obstructed views than Bramhall Lane.
As for the game, Bannon again had a great game against us. We were leggy throughout and Tammy looked to be carrying a knock wasn't waving his arms about like his usual style dictates.
Apart from the goals had one great cross in from the right by Jack and Kodja being Kodja just had to try to be George Best instead of heading in his chance. McGinn was outstanding in driving the play on which he had to be as Bruce did a job on Grealish.
I still think we need to up it if we are going to get promoted.
Got back at 11pm pretty happy...….

Will Hourihane get back in ahead of Whelan?

And the official highlights doesn't show uninterrupted footage from our second to third goals - I think TV posted a clip from Pravda's live coverage with Tony Daley on co-comms and it's just fantastic to watch two minutes of goalscoring Villa and unbridled joy. Can't remember seeing us score goals in such quick succession after winning possession from the restart and grabbing another one. Wonderful build-up for Tammy's goal too.
Has anyone got a link to the uninterrupted 2 minutes?

Awesome! :D

Just home. One of those away trips I’ll remember for many a year, it was that good; not the match per se, but the atmosphere and general feeling that it meant something special. I get a feeling we are about to go on a rather good trip.
Night all.
being in aus and not having fox sports, I have taken to watching the Villa on tour blog. The kid that does it said there were 4,500 Villa fans at H’boro. The atmosphere looked pretty awesome in the Villa end.
I can’t help wondering if Sheffield Weds may now be regretting letting us have so many tickets- as it sounded to me like the match was being played at Villa Park. I know it’s a well-worn cliche, but it really does seem that our away fans are like a 12th man / 1 goal headstart most matches.

I'm looking forward to going to work today!

The last two results against Sheffield teams must have been fun for you the day after!

Another three points in the bag not at our best but the fact we scored two late goals shows we don't give in roll on Rotherham.
-
According to the locals its the best they have played for ages :'(

Well what does that say about us then.
Going into the final games in such form and with everything to play for - you could not wish for more

Watching the extended highlights it's a little concerning how we lost control of midfield and there were far too many misplaced passes. We do seem to struggle against teams that play with a midfielder in the pocket spreading play as we don't seem to close down or pressure at all in that area (Reed for Blackburn and Bannan for Sheff Weds as examples in last 2 games). Obviously it shows great character and resilience to grind out a win when not playing well, but was it more of a case that we just have several players having a bad day at the office or were they that much better than us?

The 3-3 was great, I was pissed off we'd been so bad but they were more pissed off they'd let a 3 goal lead slip. I could play the really annoyed card and really, really annoy them. Today though has been really fun, especially as I could rub it in about Bruceball, in a 'I told you so' way....

The slight worry for me is that the first half of both games showed that at our best, we have a much better team than most in the Championship, but when things start to take a turn for the worse as they did in both second halves, Smith doesn't seem to have much of an answer. Grealish was quite effectively shackled, and it was a little concerning how a midfield of Grealish, McGinn and Jack was given the run a round by one containing Barry Bannan.
Happy with the win of course, but wouldn't fancy us winning at Wembley against the likes of Leeds if we put in one of our recent second half performances.

Agreed. I'd like to see Smith try out a 4 man midfield - dropping one of the wingers - to see whether we can play more compact, and giving Grealish the opportunity to play a slightly deeper role.
BTW, I don't think we should denigrate Bannan: he is a very accomplished Championship player who made a bit of a mug out of each of our midfielders during the course of the first 60 minutes on Saturday.
-
I think Jack needs to be pushed more forward than dropping back...it's when he drops deeper that we carry less threat and teams come more onto us.

If Jack has to split himself in 2 I can understand why he struggles!
-
A team with two Jacks should be romping this league! Ahem, should say Whelan of course.
-
We're "attack vs defence" in our set up now, and I think a lot of us being able to play so effectively in this way has been down to the defence massively upping their game, albeit through wholesale personnel changes. I've felt they've dipped in the last couple of games from the standards they'd set themselves of late. Nothing major, just not quite as imposing as they have been, and I think it's making us less compact than we need to be if we're looking to keep both Grealish and McGinn up and around Abraham.
Still, not like we're leaking like a sieve, is it? Even Saturday, we created more "should've scored there" moments than the home side.

As a more serious response I think the balance of the midfield just isn't quite right. JG and SJM are fantastic going forward and both put the yard in defensively but neither has much defensive discipline so they end up getting pulled about a bit too easily and Whelan isn't mobile enough to make up for it or vocal enough to bring them back into position. Add to that us having fairly weak fullbacks (currently) and 2 wingers that stay fairly high up the pitch and it's always a risk that teams can get on top a little in there. It's one worth taking though because when we get hold of the ball we carry far more threat than anyone else in the league.

Winning both games was a pretty good answer

Brilliant.
-
Awesome. Let's hope we'll all be raising the roof at Wembley on 27th May. :)
-
Not sure it's been mentioned but did anybody see the stewards more concerned with dragging out the Villa fan that celebrated over the advertising hoardings than the fans on the floor when the same advertising hoarding collapsed?
At any other ground you might understand..
-
Yeah saw that. More ridiculous behaviour by the stewards. Obviously fans on the pitch is a matter to be taken even more seriously given recent events, but surely their job is safety first? I wasn't there to see it but didn't the pitch invading prick slide on his knees in front of their fans to celebrate our first goal in added on time then was calmly led off the pitch by stewards?
-
We had 3 arrested for invading the pitch.
