Sheffield winning has potentially opened up a 5 point gap between 6th and 7th. A defeat for us would mean 10 points to 6th. Need a win and some signing double quick.

I bet Lambert is amused that we're still stuck with Agbonlahor thanks to him.

Could be various formations but hoping it's Adomah and Agbonlahor wide with Ross in the centre - need 3 in the middle behind them today.

Gabby and Bacuna start and Grealish left on the bench.  We're not giving ourselves a chance.
Title: Re: Wolves v Villa Match Thread

Grealish has been a disappointment every time he's started recently. Might be more effective off the bench - hopefully anyway

Decent side given the limited options upfront and the fact that SB has boxed himself in on the issue of RHM.
I hope Green, Grealish and Davis get more gametime than the subs normally seem to. Give 'em 20-25 minutes to make an impact against a Lambert side that's bound to tire.
Just donlt lose against him.

Stunned he's picked Gabby yet again. How often does he need to see him to realise he contributes absolutely nothing for us?

Need RMC to be really involved today for us to have a chance of winning.

Good to see Tish getting the nod ahead of Westwood and Gardner, but shame we're having to rely on Flabby up top. Roll on Ivory Coast getting knocked out of the ACON so we can get Kodjia back.

I know Gestede is pretty average at best, but to sell him without getting anyone in first seems very short sighted, as it leaves us with just Gab to use and i'd even prefer to have Gestede in over him.

Title: Re: Wolves v Villa Match Thread
Post by: Toronto Villa on January 14, 2017, 05:11:03 PM
We simply have to play closer together. If there is a massive gap between the midfield and forwards as there has been in recent weeks it won't matter who is up front. The midfielders have to support the forwards. The forwards have to come back and ensure the gap isn't too large because chasing long balls won't work.

Title: Re: Wolves v Villa Match Thread

Flabby is in there partly 'cos we don't have many options, and partly - I think - to close down the oppo back four ... he does do 'running around like  a blue-arsed fly' okay, I suppose.

It's going to be tough and I'd be surprised if we make it

Would rather concentrate on building a genuinely good team to go up automatically next year. We're miles off premier league quality at the moment. If in doing so we can sneak in then great

That's a mid table second division squad if I ever saw one.

Midfield four won't be out fought anyway but Bacuna left wing looks very negative. Piss all options mind and Jackie boy can have no complaints about being dropped. Then again McCormack has beyond awful lately but gets a recall next to his burger buddy.

ACN or not, 50m spent this summer and this is the best we can put out in a critical derby game

The thing is its going to be harder next year:
The teams coming down will be stronger than us when we came down
they will have a shit load of parachute money than us
our parachute money will be less
Less gate revenue
Less commercial revenue
Our better players will be off

We start with 3 points tonight

Like the idea of two up top, perhaps not those two together but options are very limited. Bacuna at left wing is a little bit shite, perhaps Amavi there with Cissokho at left back would be worth a try. Oh well let's get behind them, come on Villa FTF'S!

It's for the SB thread but is his football really that far off what MON got us playing....it sounds bizarre but think about it.....we had quality players back then who could execute the game plan when we hit it early for Gabby to run onto and start counter attacks.

For all the money we've spent we have far too many mediocre and luxury players...we need ones in their prime in their division like Lansbury and Hourihane so please get them in next week for Preston as that will be another very tough game.

Tippy tippy, whack  is fucking shit.

Exactly the probolem, if we play to the strengths of our players and actually work on things in training we'd see Amavi do that a lot more often and we'd actually create a decent number of chances.

This is why I've been so hard on Bruce because I just see no attempt to make the players we have into an attacking unit and good form from Kodjia was masking just how little effect he was having on us going forward.  Yes the defence is a little better but not good enough that we can rely on clean sheets and it's not worth the cost for me.

Aaron Tishbola is absolutely awful - he takes a week to pass the ball and plays with zero tempo what is wrong with him. He can join gardner and westwood on the get rid list a total joke.

Adomah is simply coasting through the game.

What is wrong with these players do they actually give a toss.

We just look weak everywhere, second to the ball, weak in possession, sloppy passing and defending, and apart from the McCormack chance we've yet again created nothing really. Let's face it we're an average Championship side, and if we don't considerably strengthen this January we could be in this for longer than we thought. Terrible.

We've been poor. Lambert has been there less time than Bruce has been with us, but - and I don't like saying it - they played much neater, watchable football than us. The only times we looked decent was when Mccormack dropped deeper to create a link with midfield. We won't get better until we have the players. That said, I live in hope. We still had two decent chances. Come on Villa.

Think is needs Grealish for Bacuna or Albert. We have little invention and Wolves look like hitting us every time we give the ball away. Only positive is the score. It could've been 2 or 3. Hopefully, we can come out a different proposition.

Yes, Jedinak and Tshibola are better than Gardner and Westwood but not that much better, and still nowhere near good enough. Trouble is, the front 2 look piss poor as well, Elphick for Baker weakens us, Bacuna is out of position and half arsed, Amavi is wasted trying to defend rather than probing inside the opposition half and Adomah lacks the quality for a promotion side. Chesters good though.

That was poor! Major effort required in the transfer window. We seem to be getting worse as every week goes by. We need a replacement centre half for Elphick, who just looks shite and Baker who is injury prone. We might as well not bother with midfield. Jedinak is garbage, Tishbola looks poor and as for our forward line: Crap. Gabby is past it, and McCormack looks like a Sunday league player. Sort it out Bruce!

Yes, unfortunately he's incredibly unconvincing - he doesn't give me any confidence at all. His positioning isn't great, and he keeps doing the same backing-off like he has done in previous games. When his clearance rebounded back towards goal he just looked on as Johnstone and Chester dealt with it. I would have expected him to be looking for a spare man, or trying to get back onto the line.

I don't think we are. Plenty of effort and most of the defending has been good.
What we lack is a couple of decent midfielders and a couple of strikers. The latter are in Africa; the former need to be acquired.

Yes, we could do with another right back and a CB but the priority is in midfield.

Shit, shit, everywhere, and all the players stink. Shit, shit, everywhere, we're fucking shit, I think.

Could catch on - just need a tune to go with it

We easily dominated some of the last ten minutes.

Good god, we are so shit.

This is going to take years to put right.
The rot is so fucking deep.  No idea where its roots are and how to eradicate it.

Doing the basics right would be a bloody start. Useless, the lot of them.

How our midfield has been left to rot for years is criminal and even now there's complacency....yeah let's target a midfielder of a club that is taking months to get a takeover...let's offer Barnsley a derisory bid for Hourihane.

Can we not get these deals done....we seemed to have little issue in the summer so bit bemused by what's going on currently tbh. We worked hard before xmas to get back in the mix for top 6 and it's now all going to waste which is really disappointing.

Gary Thompson just said he was embarrassed by that performance. I have him about right. Abysmal.

Our sales of players go through quickly and easily, our our purchases of players are chaotic.

It's not the first time is it?

Norwich was really poor, Cardiff was little better.

I'll be more in shock when we actually dominate and play well away from home.
