Three points. Yes!
-
I miss my dodgy streams! :-(
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
-
a most satisfactory state of affairs - Villa win, Warnock loses and more goals in front of the Holte. Love it!
-
BRUCE BRUCE.
Enjoying seeing us play as a proper team again. Kodjia may get 20 this season, top top player as 'Arry would say, at this level. 3pts behind the playoffs, 26 games to go, we are well and truly back in this.
-
Not good, but still win 3-1 and that's a result
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
Whoever has picked that clearly isn't an H&V regular!
-
Didn't get to see a second and I'M THRILLED WITH THE RESULT.
Keep on keepin' on you villa boys!
-
Was Kodjia subbed? I thought it was Adomah, Baker and Ayew. If so, and at the risk of starting everybody off, why didn't he take the pen?
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
Whoever has picked that clearly isn't an H&V regular!
It seems to be becoming our anthem. Fucking humbug!
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
Seconded. Absolute garbage.
But three points in the bag!
-
My match thread win streak remains intact!!
Wonderful Villa!
-
Scrappy game, but a win is a win :)
-
Three points right now is all that matters. Sounded like it was an ugly game with Cardiff being the better side especially second half.
Hopefully Bruce has a midfielder or two lined up in the window.
-
What's our league position now ?
-
Was Kodjia subbed? I thought it was Adomah, Baker and Ayew. If so, and at the risk of starting everybody off, why didn't he take the pen?
No, he wasn't. No idea why Rudy took it.
-

Seconded. Absolute garbage.

Grumpy old men 😉
-
What's our league position now ?
11th
-
Splendid. Even if it is fecking freezing. Cars already have frost on them.
-
Play offs here we come!
-
What's our league position now ?
11th
Thank you
-
What's our league position now ?
12th I think
-
11th , 3 points off the play off places
-
What's our league position now ?
11th
Thank you
And just three points off the play offs.
-
3 points... 3 goals.
An all-round great afternoon.
-
Was Kodjia subbed? I thought it was Adomah, Baker and Ayew. If so, and at the risk of starting everybody off, why didn't he take the pen?
No, he wasn't. No idea why Rudy took it.
Strange.
-
You know its been a good day when the only thing we can find to moan about is the music at the end!
-
Jedinak, Jack and Amavi were superb.
-
Maybe Rudy is the actual penalty taker and when he's on he takes them? or Kodjia was carrying a knock and didn't fancy it?
-
Whatever, I feel the Barry question has now been replaced...
-
That must have been close to a record number of fouls against one player. Jack is made of stern stuff.
-
Saturdays are back! Going up in second. Get a hard nosed midfielder in January and we won't lose a game.
-
Sounded scrappy in the 2nd half. Hell don't care!
3-1, another 3 points in the bag, unbeaten at home, climbing the table week on week, enough squad depth to bring on subs.
If we're in the play off places come Christmas - Lovely!
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
There's no need to look back in anger!
-
Whatever, I feel the Barry question has now been replaced...
I did that. Me.
*drops mic*
-
Saturdays are back! Going up in second. Get a hard nosed midfielder in January and we won't lose a game.
Like your style sir, like your style.
-
Amavi looking better week by week. Much stronger defensively today. Jacks best game of the season for me. Not a great performance particularly 2nd half but you feel they could have stepped up a gear if needed. 3rd happy trip back to Leyland in a row ;D
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
Whoever has picked that clearly isn't an H&V regular!
It emerged spontaneously after it was played over the Reading tannoy at the end of our game there.
Ads and all the other away-heads belted it out as the players came over to celebrate a first away win since Oasis were in their pomp (or so it felt like) so for that it's a great choice. No polls or fan questionnaires, just a reminder of a moment of elation for us after months of torture.
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
There's no need to look back in anger!
Jesus, no Brummie bands with catchy tunes to sing along to?
-
Whatever, I feel the Barry question has now been replaced...
I did that. Me.
*drops mic*
*picks up mic, looks around. No-one's noticed*
Why didn't Kodjia take the penalty? (Do we need to know the answer before this works?)
Ah. It's half 8. Not sure what to do with myself. Not used to this. Alcohol and general happiness will be involved.
-
steve bruce 57. 1 % win rate excellent
-
So didn't see the game - any one know why Kodjia didn't take the penalty?

Hopefully put an end to the "fanny merchant" nonsense and how he won't be able to cope with the cloggers in this league. He seemed to cope alright against lower league cloggers whilst at Notts County.
-
So didn't see the game - any one know why Kodjia didn't take the penalty?
He started to lose his mo-jo more and more as the second half went on - he was found consistently putting in shit crosses to nobody and losing the ball outwide.
Wouldn't suprise me if he wasn't feeling confident?
-
30 minutes on Aston Station. 3 trains didn't stop and the 4th has stopped but full bound for Wolves. Farcical.
-
http://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/competitions/championship/10673376/aston-villa-3-1-cardiff
Typical fucking Westwood for their goal. Gives it away, then is far too much of a fanny to win it back.
-
What a fucking horrible excuse for a side Cardiff are. That second half was eye bleeding. I don't want to watch rugby league. Cynical, dirty, long ball, scrappy... ergh.
Massively important we won today. They made it difficult, even if they didn't exert any credible pressure in the final third.
Grealish got no protection but showed why he's a class above cloggers like Cardiff. Jedinak good again and we should have had more with a massive miss from Gabby.
Westwood is toilet. Fatty Lambert looked off side but what was Westwood doing? Useless.
Need to start turning draws into wins away from home now too.
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
Seconded. Absolute garbage.

Grumpy old men 😉
Very old and very grumpy!

Bruce hails Mile Jedinak
There wasn’t many headers he didn’t win in the second half when they were throwing them in.
Says his side’s ‘resilience’ was important.
We played a good football side last week in Brighton and I knew what we were going to get today. We had to match it.’
On Grealish:
We all see a natural footballer, the problem is never going to be on the pitch.

It was a case of the better quality winning the day at Villa Park, as Albert Adomah, Jonathan Kodjia and Rudy Gestede scored to condemn Cardiff City to a 3-1 defeat in the West Midlands.
There were moments of promise for the Bluebirds. Rickie Lambert levelled in the first half and there were numerous chances for Cardiff to get back in the game.
But a red card for Lee Pelter and Rudy Gestede's late penalty meant Cardiff were ultimately overwhelmed by an impressive Aston Villa side.
Steve Bruce's men are now seven games unbeaten under their new boss.
Cardiff started the game on top and should have been ahead when Junior Hoilett's diving header from close range flew over the bar. It had been a textbook move, a Gunnarsson long-throw headed on at the near post by Sean Morrison.
Villa were able to find some composure with their front three increasingly influential, and they were ahead when Jordan Amavi found it far too easy to roam downfield from the left. Escaping Pilkington and Morrison, his ball to the back post was converted easily by Albert Adomah.
The Bluebirds roared back, stealing the ball close to the Villa goal. Hoilett slid in Rickie Lambert whose finish was precise. The defensive gremlins, returned, however, as they failed to clear their lines and a Jonathan Kodjia header sent the hosts into the break with a 2-1 lead.
Cardiff were the better side in the opening stages after the interval, harrying their opponents and forcing a succession of mistakes in possession. Sean Morrison headed over from a Peter Whittingham free-kick as they applied some real pressure.
But Peltier's dismissal and Gestede's late spot-kick took the gloss off the afternoon.
Just as they had done at Newcastle United, Cardiff responded to adversity at the break with a showing of real fire, commitment and no little speed.
They were by far the better of the teams and will consider themselves unlucky not to have taken back to South Wales with them.
However, they can have no complaints after conceding two more very sloppy goals. They missed at least three opportunities to snuff out the danger for the first as Jordan Amavi glided goalwards, while Kodjia found it far too easy to climb high and head home the second.
Bamba and Morrison have kept along list of in form and much hyped strikers at bay since Warnock's arrival but the signs were clear that the Ivorian would be a different proposition, racing in behind during the opening exchanges.
They actually marshalled him well thereafter but Morrison in particular was caught static for the second.
The signs are good on the whole but until they sharpen up at the back they will not pull away.
Have there even been two finer beards in such close proximity?
Mile Jedinak and Aron Gunnarsson push each other close in that category but more importantly, they are also two of the most tenacious defensive midfielders at this level.
Jedinak was good and disciplined, but Gunnarsson showed another dimension to his game as Peter Whittingham moved out to the left and Cardiff had only two in the middle of the park.
Jedinak kept it simple and looked to lay it off to the glittering attackers in his side, whereas Gunnarsson had to go up another gear and bomb forward whenever possible. He was everywhere.
Villa's slogan these days is 'fight like lions'. They could learn a trick or two from the Iceman in that department, who bounced off Jack Grealish with embarrassing ease at times.
In the end, Cardiff were undone by the pace and movement of Aston Villa's excellent front three.
Yet praise should be given to the Bluebirds for coming to one of Britain's most famous grounds, up against a side bang in form, and really trying to play some good stuff.
Their first chance, inevitably came from Sean Morrison flicking on a long-throw into the six-yard box, but with Junior Hoilett staying up front, they stuck with a 4-4-2 and really went for it.
The midfield covered an immense amount of ground and they put some good moves together with the ball on the deck as well as in the air. Hoilett was subject to some pretty rough treatment from the Villa defence who clearly watched his Huddersfield masterclass very closely over the last week.
Nevetheless, there are signs that confidence and fluidity are improving all over the pitch, and good partnerships are improving the speed of the Bluebirds' tackling.
'If I play games I'm confident I'll score goals, I think my record shows that'.
So said Rickie Lambert on his arrival in South Wales and he took his Bluebirds tally to four he is beginning to make good on that promise.
His Cardiff career has been a slow burner, battling through injury and fitness issues despite having to carry the team's cumbersome attacking on his shoulders.
Here he was at by far his sharpest and that finish was of the highest quality, absolutely nerveless under the pressure. He isn't the quickest, agonisingly short of Junior Hoilett's brilliant cross across the face of goal. Yet he chased and chased elsewhere and there can't be any doubts that he is rapidly improving. Was probably unlucky to be substituted.
What a feeling it must have been for the Bluebirds to come out of the tunnel and see the sea of fans directly opposite them.
Whispers that a 2,500 strong following had travelled were quickly proven correct and they made an almighty din. What a moment it was when Rickie Lambert pulled them level for a brief moment. There were limbs everywhere, a guttural roar and the customary strains of 'Don't take me home'.
It helped create a memorable occasion and a proper football atmosphere that crackled as the game played out. Hopefully it will convince many to get on the road again because it was a genuinely awesome sight and one of the reasons why Warnock came here despite the league position.
-
A match where the late goal was us consolidating the victory. I could get used to this.
-
They were lucky they only had 1 sent off. Dirtiest side I've seen in a long time. Ref missed loads of fouls despite giving 20 odd fouls against them.
-
Another great afternoon at the Villa. Cardiff were lively at the start but the first half belonged to Villa. Very scrappy 2nd half but overall we were well worth the 3 points.
-

That's Colin Wanker for you. He would have told his side to go out and rough us up. That's why I pray never to see tossers like him ever suggested as manager of our club.
-

To me it relates to 14 months without an away win and was also aimed at people bothered about who Bruce once worked for.
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
If they play DLBIA every time we win at home, I hope we're all thoroughly sick of it by the end of the season! You just gotta roll with it... ;)
-
Oh what a glorious thing to be
A Villa fan on a Sa-a-aturdee
With a nod to Arthur Askey. Ask yer Grandads'
-
Is this keeps up at the end of the season I might pop some Champagne Supernova
-
Jedinak, Jack and Amavi were superb.
Agreed, but a special mention for Chester.
I thought he was superb today.
-
If we hadn't dropped so many fucking points early on we could be in with a shout of winning the league.
Those careless late goals conceded.
-
If we hadn't dropped so many fucking points early on we could be in with a shout of winning the league.
Those careless late goals conceded.
Yes, but RDM would still be in the job.
-
By my reckoning, if we'd won every game we've led in this season we'd be 2 points clear at the top.
-
Jedinak, Jack and Amavi were superb.
Agreed, but a special mention for Chester.
I thought he was superb today.
Agreed, that 4 were our stand out performers. Chester reads the game well and stepped up when we lost Baker. I think I have a man crush on Jedi, a proper man and midfielder. Glad he has proven my Palace mate right.
-

Which if we'd held onto all the leads we had under him we'd be delighted with.
-
I thought everyone played pretty pretty well, apart from maybe Ayew. But the actual team performance was a bit crap. We got caught in possession a number of times and also gave the ball away loads.
-
what was the injury to Baker?
-
what was the injury to Baker?
Groin. Bruce said Baker has been suffering for a few weeks.
-
Second half was poor but the result was all that mattered. I actually thought we missed Baker and that's something I never thought I'd ever say. Keep it up Steve.
-
Horrible scrappy game against a typically dirty, long throw, Colin Wanker team.Five minutes in and Warnock was in the ear of the linesman, ten minutes later he was in the ear of the 4th official, and at half time half his players were in the officials' faces. Horrible man, horrible team, but to be fair the officials were, to a man, shocking. If the ref had booked Gunnarson earlier for persistent fouling he'd have been off well before Pelter. To be fair Cardiff played some decent stuff at times and should have been 1 up in the first few minutes when Hoilett headed over. Typical Westwood fannying about for their goal, but some real quality for ours. Wasn't sure about Bruce's substitutions - when Ayew went off I'd have preferred Gardner or Bacuna on to shore up the midfield, but by the end we could have won by more - Adomah might have done better from 3 yards out with Kodjia's cross/shot, and, predictably, Gabby failed when one on one with the keeper. Another three points for Bruce, still undefeated, 3 points off the top six, and feeling good walking back across Aston Park again. For those reasons I'll even put up with DLBIA at the end - but please, whoever's choosing that for whatever reason, let's change it to Hi Ho Silver Lining
-
Unbeaten at home going into December. What is going on?!

They were by far the better of the teams and will consider themselves unlucky not to have taken back to South Wales with them.
Not sure that was right, they were a typical Warnock team, scrapping, niggling and fouling. Not sure how the No.17 managed to evade a booking for so long, every time Grealish got the ball he went through the back of him. Equally not sure how Lambert was still on the pitch to score after the two handed push on the ref after whatever happened on the halfway line. All in all a good victory and a deserved 3 points.
-
Yes! Winning feels good! Boo's for Warnock and cheers for the lads. Another happy weekend and all is well with the world :)
-
Dirtiest team and worst ref we have had this season. Thought Cardiff were better than their current league position and played some good stuff at times. Jedinak is a throwback to the seventies, a proper midfielder who can tackle and head a ball and when he gets whacked he doesn't whinge about it he just gets on with the game. I love my Saturdays again thank you Mr Bruce.

Let them have the "unlucky" points. We will take the real points.
I feel some sympathy for them. Terrible owner, awful plodder of a manager, garbage players who always find a way to lose. Been there. Dont want to go back.
-
I read earlier today that Grealish was the most fouled player in the Championship (42) and he added another 11 today (I counted)! Cardiff were fouling as a tag team all match.
Apart from Grealish, I agree Jedinak and Chester played very well and Adomah did well too.
Gollini had very little to do, but to me he doesn't exude enough confidence yet. If we can strengthen there in January along with the centre of midfield we'll have a chance. Just have to keep this run going up to the end of the year.
-
Their number 17 was a dirty, cheating, whining fucking ****** and he should have been off before I finished the half time curry sauce and chips.
-
Jedinak, Jack and Amavi were superb.
Agreed, but a special mention for Chester.
I thought he was superb today.
these four were very, very good today, in a game that was continually spoiled by a cynical opposition and a crap ref.
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.

Well that was crap a game as I have seen this season but 3-1 win whoop whoop...can't ask for more.
-
Their number 17 was a dirty, cheating, whining fucking c*** and he should have been off before I finished the half time curry sauce and chips.
Yes he was. He is from Iceland you know!?
-
Thrilled with how we are shaping up under the Doc and Mr.Bruce and genuinely excited about January.
Mirror in the Bathroom for me because I like the Beat and who doesn't like a random tune like that.
-
Man of the Match by a long way ...stand up Jordan Amavi an excellent performance.

I'm going to repeat my suggestion for The Twang's "Either Way" for the following reasons:
Brummie band
Lead singer is a big Villa fan
The chorus of "I feel so much better today, chase the bad things away" is MUCH more appropriate than the chorus to Don't Look Back In anger. In fact most of the lyrics seem kind of fitting.
The chorus is a bit of a laddish chant that's easy to sing and would catch on I reckon.
Yeah I feel better today, I think that shit was just a phase,
My whole outlook's changed, I've even stopped feelin' strange.
I can understand why you was mad now,
Why should you be the one who has to loose out, just 'cause I'm on one?
I said "I'm always gonna have shit going on!"
I feel so much better today, chase the bad things away.
I was glad I turned the corner man, 'cause I was sick of feelin' rough
I was getting paranoid about the silliest of stuff.
I was at me wit?s end pulling my hair out, I'd just about had enough.
And all I needed was just a hug and that little bit of love.
I feel so much better today, chase the bad things away.
And I really do feel so much better, I really do feel so much better.
And I've gotta find my phone to tell yer,
Maybe even write you a love letter.
Either way I've gotta tell ya, either way I've gotta tell ya,
I feel so much better today, I've chased the bad things away.
And yeah I really do feel better and it almost don?t feel right,
So I'm gonna store this thought away for a bit,
And I'm not saying it ain't gonna be hard at times,
'Cause it's always your favourite top you bin,
But think man it could have been your skin.
And I think we might just be OK, but what does it matter either way,
'Cause she's the one that's always there.
Yeah she's the one that always cares.
Yeah she's the one that always there.
'cause your the one that always cares.
I love ya.
I've gotta find my phone to tell 'er
Ah, maybe even write you a love letter.
Ah, either way I've gotta tell ya, either way I've gotta tell ya,
Ah either way I've gotta tell ya, either way I've gotta tell ya,
Either way either way either way (lots of either ways)
-
Grealish played really well, as did Amavi and Jedinak. I thought Gabby changed the game when he came on too, despite his one on one fail. Ayew was less than useless. He looks like he doesn't give a monkeys. Replace Westwood and Hutton and we will be way too much for anybody in this league.
Special mention for Joe Bennett. I thought he played really well today, fair play to him.
-
Jedinak, Jack and Amavi were superb.
Agreed, but a special mention for Chester.
I thought he was superb today.
Chester looked completely at fault for their goal to me, Micah Richards esque stuff running out to the ball leaving Lambert behind him

I've always like Joe, if he arrived at Villa during different times (like many) he might have done well.
We've been so mismanaged for so long. In hindsight we might have missed a trick when MON scarpered in not appointing someone like Bruce back then. I wonder how Hughes would have done if he got the job when it looked a dead cert.
-
I always think about the final scene from Our Friends in the North when I hear Don't look back in Anger
-
It was a good game today.
Yeah a few fouls here and there but no horrible challenges just cynical trips. Eventually one Cardiff player was going to go.
I actually thought Cardiff were more dangerous first half, second half we sat back but I never really felt in much danger they were going to score as we defender the throw ins and corners very well today.
We now know how to play at this level now as a team, probably too late for automatic but I fully expect us to be in the play offs.
Amavi MOTM for me with Chester and Jedinak terrific aswell. Ayew and Jack good in spells.
-
Most cynical team for me this season was Forest, they were a bunch of time wasting cnuts from the first minute. It's a typical uncompromising Warnock side of course but they played some decent stuff first half.
Probably in the minority but I quite like him....his book was a good read.
-
Enjoyable game today. Both teams seemed to look to win the game. They were typical Warnock team. Many positives to take from today.
I'm pretty certain we'll make at least the playoffs.
My only concern is there are periods in the game where we just don't get it together. So far we've managed to get away with it, but it's something Bruce knows (or at least he gives that impression). I know it's not going to happen where we're in control for 90 mins, but the open ring 5 mins in the first half then a good 25ish mins in the second half we did nothing.
Still, don't want to take away anything from a team Bruce is turning into a good team.
If only he'd been here from the start...
-
Oh, and the way Jack Grealish run over the players leg to win the penalty was hilarious!
As my brother said, it was like Sensible Soccer when somebody did a sliding tackle and you could deliberately run over it and get the foul (and player sent off on occasions).
-

RDM has cost us automatic promotion with his Football manager game management.

First half I thought Jordan keep the ball well and started our good attacking moves, he slid the ball through for Amavi's run for the first goal for example. Second half I agree he was shite and deserved to be subbed.
People need to stick with him though....I know we all thought he'd ripped up this division but he's still a player with good intelligence on the ball (most of the time) and often plays the part in our moves. A few more goals would be nice though.

Winning: I like it.

Lovely. I'm down with that. I've heard it loads of times but the lyrics hadn't really sunk in. Very relevant.
-
On a winning run maybe keep DLBIA at the end because it seems to set up the next one.
Superstitious? Very!
I like Risso's song but I don't think we should mess with success for as long as this lasts.
Another great weekend, Villa on the up! Well done to the team, the coaches, Steve Bruce and everybody at Villa cheering on today. :)

What a fucking dirty team they are and what an absolute cockend of a man Colin Wanker is. I thought we were good in the first half, not so good second.
Gollini - 7 solid enough but for all Cardiffs supposed threat he didn't have that much to do, still worrying on crosses at times.
Hutton - 7 typical Hutton, reasonable enough
Chester - 8 superb marshalling of others and very composed.
Baker - 7 solid and dominant but distribution a bit meh.
Amavi - 8 very good defensively, still not as much coming forwards as we know he's capable of.
Jedinak - 9 immense, just fucking immense
Westwood - 5 gave away the goal, and faded from view second half.
Grealish - 8 got through the kicking he took and was always available for linking play and being a threat.
Ayew - 5 not good, was anonymous and the Cardiff right back had him in his pocket.
Kodjia - 8 ran the lines well, good header for his goal, love this fella.
Adomah - 8 calm for his goal and is so consistent.
Elphick - 7 solid
Bruce - 7 let them get at us
Officials - 2 useless absolutely fucking useless.
3 pts, 11th place, going well.
-
I think we might slowly be turning into a normal club again, thanks to Bruce. A club that does normal things like win most of the games they should win on paper, and not set club records for shitness, and not invent new records for shitness where none before existed. A few more wins and I might even start feeling confident before games!
-
The Gabby substitution? Why ? Can't get my head around why Bruce brought him on.
Hopefully Baker isn't out for long because Mad Tom scares me in defence
Ayew....pass the ball you greedy fecker
Pointy..... what on earth were you playing at ?
Other than that.....good win lads ;D
-
Probably Chester'a best game to date, but in fact all the back 4 and Jedinak defended very well when Cardiff dominated for an hour in the 2nd half. For all their possession they had few decent chances. I agree with what others have said about the best players: Grealish, Adomah,Chester, Amavi, Jedinak.
Just as satisfying as the win is that it's actually enjoyable watching Villa. When did we last say that?
-
Percy, Risso has got this bang on! ... Love this tune (has got me (personally) Thro some tough times... Playing academy next month if you're interested?
-
Baker - 7 solid and dominant but distribution a bit meh.
Y'know that old saying about Maradonna's right foot being only for standing on. Well, Baker's left and right feet are only for standing on.
For someone who has an almost total inability to kick a ball, he's making a good living playing football.
Having said that, I'd have him in the team ahead of Mad Tom any day
-
Under RDM our song would have been 5 minutes by the stranglers. With our recent run under Bruce I would have thought confidence would be sky high in the team but we still don't look a confident team in sections of matches. Fair play to Bruce for what he has achieved but I think the previous years of mismanagement totally wiped out any traces of confidence in the players and it is still taking sometime to rid ourselves of the self doubt. Even new players brought in seemed to have their confidence removed as soon as they pulled the shirt on. May it never happen again.
-
Concerned that Tshibola is not even on the bench? Would've been a good option to bring on in the second half for Westwood who I thought looked too lightweight, especially being out-muscled for their goal.
-
So didn't see the game - any one know why Kodjia didn't take the penalty?
He started to lose his mo-jo more and more as the second half went on - he was found consistently putting in shit crosses to nobody and losing the ball outwide.
Wouldn't suprise me if he wasn't feeling confident?
I saw it that, given Gestede is a former Cardiff player, he *really* wanted to take it.
-
Concerned that Tshibola is not even on the bench? Would've been a good option to bring on in the second half for Westwood who I thought looked too lightweight, especially being out-muscled for their goal.
This. I've no idea why he can't get a game.

Oh what a glorious thing to be
A Villa fan on a Sa-a-aturdee
With a nod to Arthur Askey. Ask yer Grandads'
No need for me.
My Dad lived a street away.
The Dingle. Where they play Tig with hatchets.
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
If they play DLBIA every time we win at home, I hope we're all thoroughly sick of it by the end of the season! You just gotta roll with it... ;)
Whatever.

One of the few songs that you can hear a proper Brummie accent coming through. " I love ya!"
Forgot how much I enjoy The Twang as much as I forgot how much I enjoy the Villa winning.
-
Rudy's goal celebration - getting humped like a female dog.
Interesting.
-
Islamic supplication

Percy, Risso has got this bang on! ... Love this tune (has got me (personally) Thro some tough times... Playing academy next month if you're interested?
I'd love to see you mate (and The Twang) but I've got loads on next month and am already scared of running out of Christmas money.
Works 'do' next week, Call Me Unique at Night Owl week after, kids at their nan and grandad's week after that, so probably an all-nighter, out (with the lulus!) Christmas Eve.
-
Other than Westwood's sloppiness leading up to their goal, I thought we played pretty well all game. Picking a MOTM was a tough choice between Grealish and Jedinak, the latter who's signing might well be a massive part of helping us back up.
-
Good win, and it's always nice to upset Colin Wanker.
Thought Jedinak and Amavi were excellent, and Grealish is invaluable to us.
-

This. I've no idea why he can't get a game.
Quite simply he is injured!
-
Following an unfortunate mispronunciation by the MC at half time today, for the first time ever I regretted not being on Twitter as I couldn't enter the competition to win the prize of shitting next to Dr Tone at the next home game. Bet the toilet paper would have been something else as well....
-
Literally just got back in as trains headed sarf were buggered from 7pm onwards it seemed, especially as some smart bods decided to trespass over the train tracks near Milton Keynes. Decent 1st half but Westwood gifted them their goal, second half we were competent if not spectacular and their support got throughly unpleasant outside the away end after the match. Nice to have an hour or two in the city centre too where the German Christmas market was.
-
Watched the highlights of the day on Ch5, Christ and I thought BBC pundits were bad. Jamie O'Hara won't be getting another gig I hope.
-
Oh and I shook Ian Taylor's hand outside the club shop. Top bloke.
-
I an terrified that Bruce thinks Agbonlahor can do a job.
-
Must admit I am disappointed Gestede has not been ahead of your man the last two games, was stationary at Brighton station and thought my lad was drunk when he told me Gabby was starting.
-
Chester looked completely at fault for their goal to me, Micah Richards esque stuff running out to the ball leaving Lambert behind him
Westwood was completely at fault in that instance and Chester had to rush out and it was Hutton who was found wanting in not covering.
-
Second half was poor but the result was all that mattered. I actually thought we missed Baker and that's something I never thought I'd ever say. Keep it up Steve.
baker's a decent player, I've always thought. Prone to make a couple of mistakes a match, but mostly reliable. I hope a successful season in the championship will give him the confidence to raise his game to premiership level next season, assuming we scrape back up.
-
Yes! Winning feels good! Boo's for Warnock and cheers for the lads. Another happy weekend and all is well with the world :)
its amazing the wonders a Villa win does for us as human beings! Ready to face the week now after a shit week last week, following wisdom teeth out.

I did see him photographed training with the squad immediately prior to the Brighton game on the club site. I assumed that he was fit and for some reason not in favour?

Saw none of it, relied on BBC and Sky text, but 3 points is all that matters. Hope Brucey plays it clever in January, get some loans in and keep the majority of the money for Prem quality for next August, come on Villa.

I didn't see the game but for his sloppiness there was a few more passes that needed to happen before they scored. You could argue Hutton should have tucked in more and as soon as we lost the ball we should have looked to press the man on the ball sooner and tuck in the full backs.
-
There was a lovely moment second half where Hutton really got stuck in after losing the ball and won it back to the delight of the crowd. Both full backs were excellent yesterday I thought.
-
I an terrified that Bruce thinks Agbonlahor can do a job.
He's got a way to go to win some of us back over, but I thought did a good job yesterday and changed the game when he came on.
-
Westwood was a fanny for their goal but Hutton was also in no man's land leaving lambert completely free. It's fair enough getting ahead of play if we've got proper control of the ball in their half but that wasn't the case
-

Obviously a bad mistake by Westwood but it shouldn't have resulted in a goal. I blame Hutton.
-
you're right but he did make one or two crucial interventions yesterday - a brave header in particular that at least showed his commitment to the cause. Gabby puffed more than huffed for me and despite the wanker's histrionics in front of the Holte, Lambert looked a lot more mobile than Gabflab .
-
Is Lambert on loan (i.e. still a Tescos employee) ? If so will avoid Smethwick today for the crowds and open top bus tour. Must be one of the favourites for their player of the year award.
-
Last week we outplayed a team with a reputation for a good footballing side, this week we stood up to a cynical, over physical side and won the game. I think that shows the Bruce impact on the squad. Warnock is a dinosaur and a better ref would have stopped them by using his cards sooner but I got the impression that he just couldn't be arsed blowing up for half the fouls as it created work for him. You get a measure of their manager when your read that he waited for Grealish in the tunnel to confront him as though it was his own fault that they kept fouling him. This was about 5 minutes after everyone else had gone off as he had come over to the Holte, along with Gollini, to give his shirt to somebody in the crowd. He probably then laid into his own players for not kicking him hard enough. Wanker.
Gabby and Gestede for all their limitations did make a difference when they came on which again reflects well on Bruce because they didn't seem obvious changes to me.
As for Oasis at the end, if the club had asked fans for ideas of what song to play it would have been number 7,296 on the list. As it is, it happened spontaneously and now just seems to work, probably because, unlike the Twang song suggested above, everyone knows the words so can join in if they want. Not looking back in anger seems to me an appropriate approach for a club trying to shake of the effect of 5 years of neglect.
-
It's a mystery.
Who is this team that doesn't lose matches, scores goals, and doesn't concede many?

Excellent post. Spot on all of it.

Great win yesterday I'm now convinced that Brucey is taking us up.
On the song debate someone in the queue for the train at Brighton last week started singing "the day we caught the train" by OCS. It was superb and it got me thinking that this would sound great with the Villa fans belting out the chorus. Lead singer Simon Fowler is a big Villa fan so for me this would be a much better choice than any Oasis song who are such big Man City fans. I also agree with the Twang for the same reasons. They could easily put the lyrics on the big screens for those people that don't know them. I like Oasis but I flat refuse to join in with that song.
-
Never going to be an open fluent game of football against a Neil Warnock team, yet we stood up to Cardiff and got another result.
One big difference for me under Bruce is the positive affect the subs are having on each game. Yet again yesterday bringing Gabby
and Rudy on when he did, just tipped the balance back in our direction.

I was thinking about the subs after the game. I disagreed with the Gabby and Gestede ones at the time yesterday but they both worked well in their own way and to be honest, he has used all his subs pretty well since he's been here.

Sorry to be pedantic, but it's the drummer (Oscar) who is the big Villa fan. Simon Fowler claims to be a Blues fan, but gives the impression, like so many musicians of that era, that his love of football is a bit of a pretence really.
-
I thought Chester, Amavi and Jedinak were collectively Man Of The Match.
This weeks "they're just not up to it" list consists of Agbonlahor and Hutton.
What Bruce sees in Agbonlahor I will never know
-
Steve Craddock is one of us too.
-

I was just about to comment on that-There were two players fighting with him. You just had a feeling that Hutton was going to win that one didn't you?
I'm similar to Matt Collins, a midfielder to play alongside Jedinak has to be the priority. After that, an out and out number 9 would be good for me (although I understand that Bruce has stated that he isn't looking for a striker because we have so many already)
Hutton frustrates me something rotten. It is similar to when Lambert was in charge. Just when I've had enough of him, he pulls a good performance out of the bag. I think his mistakes are highlighted because of who he is. If a more popular player made those mistakes, they would probably go unnoticed. I'm not keen on Deleat. I just wonder what we could realistically expect at this point that would be an upgrade on Hutton? maybe this is a position that would be better looked at if and when we go up?

Oh ok didn't realise that. Went to see OCS in Moseley park earlier this year. The stage had claret & blue ribbons it was a fantastic gig. I can't be doing with us singing an Oasis song it just doesn't sit right with me.
-
The BBC match report reckons Cardiff dominated the second half. Does anyone else think that because I didn't see it like that at all.
-
We were very poor second half to be fair but it doesn't matter because we scored again, prevented them from scoring when they were on top, and won.
-
They started the second half (and first for that matter) really strongly but didn't create clear cut chances. Lambert going off helped us as his replacement looked poor. Thought we looked comfortable and caught them on the break several times.
Met a Cardiff fan through a mutual friend afterwards in The Craven Arns who could not believe how many thugs of all ages they were sitting by in their stand - apparently it was a bit nasty outside afterwards.
-

No. I was expecting a bit of an onslaught from them (as they had done at Newcastle a few weeks previously). I was very pleased with our 2nd half performance and thought we should have had the 2 goal cushion earlier on. Cardiff were capable of breaking and the small black striker looked especially dangerous. They made a game of it but no way did they dominate 2nd half. From where I was sat, I also though the first Grealish foul was a penalty.
Regarding DLBIA, I believe this was played at the end of the Reading game and the away section sang it joyously and loud. Credit to the club for picking up on this and I actually think that it's a good song for everyone to join in with after we've won.
-
Regarding Don't Look Back In Anger I really don't care. As has been said we've tried to manufacture a club song but apart from 50 people singing 50 different words to The Bells Are Ringing we've never got anywhere. I'd prefer us not to be singing the song of some man City Mancs but people like it, it fits, and how many other club's anthems are penned by musicians that support them? Hopefully in years to come people will be wondering we the famous Aston Villa sing an Oasis song which has no apparent connection to the club.
I hope it sticks around for a bit as I like a club song. It's better than what the 'kids' have done to the Paul McGrath song anyway.
-
I don't like it that much personally (as a Villa song I mean, the lyrics are fine, there's no problem there) but a lot of people seem to and it's took off so I don't see the harm in it.
-

I sit in the DE so cannot see the away fans but I was told that their allocation had been restricted. There was also a large presence of stewards at the front of the away section. Outside, there were police spaced every 20 yards or so, all the way up Witton Lane. Not seen this before, all season. I suspect there may well have been intelligence reports that these people would be travelling. Why do people still do this in this day and age? Is there any point to it?
-
All this talk about Oasis. We are obviously 'Paranoid'!!

I don't see it as a club song or anthem. I just see it as a song that is played at the end of all games (or likely all games that we've won). It's not like it is going to be sung at any other time than at full time at home games.
-
Hard-earned win. Didn't dominate possession but had more chances.
Cardiff are fucking animals.
Oasis have no place at Villa Park.
-
Concerned that Tshibola is not even on the bench? Would've been a good option to bring on in the second half for Westwood who I thought looked too lightweight, especially being out-muscled for their goal.
This. I've no idea why he can't get a game.
Keep seeing people bringing the absence of Tshibola up and I keep asking exactly what it is that people have seen in him in his very few appearances for any club that think he will improve our team which are currently on an impressive run of not losing? I know the stock answer is "anything is better than Westwood", but is he?

Apart from having 57% possession? ;)

The BBC match report reckons Cardiff dominated the second half. Does anyone else think that because I didn't see it like that at all.
Stats were 69/31 first half and 57/43 overall so they did have lot of the ball in up to 70th minute but created no chances other than the free kick that missed everything/one. However watching the match I thought we were turning a bit diMatteoesque in that period allowing them to come onto us and it was not very comfortable period.
-
Regarding Don't Look Back In Anger I really don't care.
Fair points. Still don't like the song or band though.

There is no need to keep on and on about a national stereotype.

NO, NO, NO!
A new low for this great club, how far have we sunk etc.
Just for clarity, I fucking hate that song and band. It reminds me of everything I hated about the nineties, Chris Evans,'lad' culture, meat and two veg 'Britpop' and mostly Ocean Duller Scene. Oh and reminds me of this monstrosity, only even worse.
It's a no from me...
-
Steve Craddock is one of us too.
He's not one of me. No way.

Toshiba failed to impress for the U23's again this week and got pulled-off during the game.

Absolutely, wholeheartedly agree, I despise Oasis for all the reasons given....and many more besides, they have no place anywhere near Villa Park.
Someone wrote earlier that surely we should be able to find a song from a Brum Group ......Black Sabbath , Duran Duran , ELO , Ocean Colour Scene ( although they did have some ‘ Oasis’ influence ) , The Move ( ‘Watching Villa in the Rain ?) , The Beat , The Moody Blues ( Go Now, Nights In White Satin) UB40 , The Twang .The Streets etc.
But what do I know ?, the last song I remember singing with any enthusiasm at Villa Park was ' Hey, hey , you, you...get offa McLeod ' ! :-[...............Godzvilla!

Crikey you read the WalesOnline match report and it couldn't be any more plucky little Albion out for a laugh and a big day out if it tired.
They're celebrating a 3-1 defeat. Bizarre.

A 3-1 defeat in an away match in Europe against former European champions no less.

Help...during the second half, Kodjia was in possession and heading towards goal, when he stopped, after being kicked I think, and cupped his hands round his mouth. The opponent looked at him and then Kodjia skipped off again with the ball with a bemused defender still immobile. Can anyone enlighten me with details as from my seat at the back of the Holte it was a little unclear

Not sure, but when we played them in the Premier League a few seasons ago, their coaches were parked up on the Walsall Road by the Alexander Stadium. I presumed they were waiting for a police escort, but I've never seen that before.

I did have to smile when some of their youngsters were singing on the way out, a couple of ours sung something in response and a fat middle-aged bald Welshman promptly spun round with his fists clenched. It was quite nostalgic in an eighties retro way.

Despite it happening right below me I didn't see what actually happened at the end of the first half when their player was seemingly out for the count and a Melee ensued, anyone help?
-
As one or two others have said, you can't moan if the Villa faithful feel like belting out a song at the end of the game. I'm just miffed that they are singing an Oasis song. When I next come to Villa Park I'm sure I'll belt it out too if we have just spanked some team by two or three goals.
-
Chester looked completely at fault for their goal to me, Micah Richards esque stuff running out to the ball leaving Lambert behind him
Westwood was completely at fault in that instance and Chester had to rush out and it was Hutton who was found wanting in not covering.
I agree with you completely, Olaf. Hutton must have started to bugger-off up the pitch when Westwood screwed it up. I understand that both our full-backs aim to get forward as much as possible, but shirley their defensive responsibilities should be at the forefront of their minds? Luckily the cock-up for Lambert's equaliser didn't cost us yesterday, but against a better side it could have been disastrous.

Yes, I was a tad perturbed by this. It seemed to me that (I think it was) Jedinak won a strong challenge and played the ball back to the keeper. Another of our players was there or thereabouts and the challenge by Jedinak appeared hard but fair. It was right in front of Warnock and poor "football playing" Warnock was up in arms about a challenge. This seemed to speak his thug players into life and they all became involved.
I couldn't quite work it out at the time but wonder if there was a sandwich and that is what upset Warnock? I was focusing on Jedinak and he certainly didn't do anything untoward.

I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
If they play DLBIA every time we win at home, I hope we're all thoroughly sick of it by the end of the season! You just gotta roll with it... ;)
Here here! For this reason I want DLBIA played after every home game for the forseeable!

Rare trip back to Brum from Beijing. Took my brother along and bought tickets for K2 Holte End.
A joy to see three goals scored by the Villa only marred by Mr Pointy's slackness in gifting them their goal.
Last game I saw at VP was Villa vs Man City under McLeish. Our entire plan seemed to be Given hoofing it up to Heskey and our football was ugly and mindless. Nearly vowed never to go again.
But four years on we have the nucleus of a decent side. Playoffs should be well within our grasp.
Not sure that Grealish deserves all the praise that he is getting. Looks pretty, but needs more incisive results. Case in point, the penalty. Played for it and earned it, but I would rather he had a go at goal.
And I'll add my name to the list who don't want Oasis blasting out at the end.
-

What impressed me the most about Grealish was how cool and unhurried he was. When Cardiff packed their own half in the first half Grealish epitomised the intelligent approach Villa took to unlocking their defence.

I'm not a massive fan of Oasis or the song, but I think it's almost a beautiful way for us to collectively bookmark the end of a terrible, well, era really.
-
Despite the fact that Liam walks around like an orangutan that has shit it's nappy, I rather like Oasis, but I'm not sure they're the most appropriate at the Villa, there is no link between the two. If that's all we've got to complain about at the moment though, it makes a massive change from the past 5 years. I hope I'm not jinxing it but we do seem to be turning a corner.
-
Back to oasis. If it is going to be an end of game song only it will peter out eventually.

In my mind "Don't Look Back In Anger" will always be the conclusion to what I consider to be one of the best TV drama series of all time.
From 6:21

re DLBIA, my twopenn'th, FWIW is: I am angry, angry for what has happened to our club over the last six years or so. It should never have happened; something I think we all agree on. Mistake upon mistake being made on top of a disinterested owner unwilling to invest further. I accept that the owner wanted out and it took longer than he and us wanted it to but, believe me, I'm still friggin' angry, whether we sing about it or not.
-
Last week we outplayed a team with a reputation for a good footballing side, this week we stood up to a cynical, over physical side and won the game.
This.
About the Oasis song. Who wrote it, what team they support, what city they're from and whether they're shit or not is all irrelevant. The words 'don't look back in anger' are very apposite given the pitiful state L****r got us into. It was spontaneous. And it is very in-keeping with the understated irony and wit of Villa fans (remember Always Look On The Bright Side of Life?). We're moving forward now, and we're putting all that rubbish behind us without any bitterness.
If anyone can find a song by a Villa supporting Brummie band with a chorus that goes 'don't look back in anger', maybe we can try that one after the next win. Until then...

Totally agree. I hate Lerner for what he did to basically ruin the club. I hope his fortune is dwindling, but probably not....

According to Kodjia on Twitter, he let Gestede take the penalty to basically keep his pecker up, which bodes well for team spirit.

Just caught an angle of this from a fans video on YT. They play the ball out, Jedinak gets to it first and plays it back to our keeper. Their player and Baker also go for the ball, Baker appears to check him in a similar way that their defender did with Amavi in the lead up to our first goal. Obviously being checked by Baker is not a prospect to be relished and their player ends up poleaxed.
Like you, I missed this in real time but from the angle I've just seen, the player does seem to be taken out. The ref was a lot closer though and it didn't look like their player was going to get near the ball.

Grealish good, Adomah excellent, Kodjia even better... Aston Villa's forwards show what Cardiff City must do come January
11th in the table, fifth favourites to go up.
The bookies rarely get it wrong and it isn’t difficult to work out why they believe Aston Villa sit in a false position.
It is because like Cardiff, they made a swift appointment and clearly the right one.
Like Cardiff, they erred in the summer and as the early stages of the season progressed, they were getting further and further away from winning games.
Steve Bruce is a manager who knows this division supremely well, has been promoted a number of times and gets the best out of players. He is also, in this division at least, a man whose tactical nous doesn’t get the credit it deserves.
Like Warnock, the sense of ‘right man, right time’ was overwhelming.
Yet there is another reason why Villa are being so heavily backed to surge for the play-offs, and it isn’t just their unbeaten run.
It is in a forward line with remarkable variety and quality, able to withstand injuries and African Cup of Nations call-ups. It cost a fortune, but is starting to deliver points with regularity.
Bruce has already tightened the ship at the back and has built a back six who are happy to move the ball quickly into the forward areas, where they have speed to counter and more than enough technical ability to pass, move and open teams up.
Jack Grealish and Jordan Amavi congratulate Jonathan Kodija of Aston Villa he put the hosts in front.

Jack Grealish gets an almighty kicking and Rickie Lambert delivers one-liner of the season so far... the winners and losers from Aston Villa clash
It’s why they are a smart bet for promotion, and Cardiff remain one of the favourites for the drop.
Cardiff are getting better in that department, no doubt. Junior Hoilett has been a revelation in the last two weeks and having had the time to reflect on what was at times a frenetic encounter, his performance stands out as even more impressive.
There were some robust challenges flying in his direction early on, Aston Villa clearly having witnessed what he did to Huddersfield last weekend.
Hoilett was unbowed and it was tenacity in the challenge, never really talked about as a strong part of his game, that caught out Villa and lead to the equaliser.
Again, he drifted across the front line, delivering some excellent deliveries from his favoured right-hand side and even going close with a couple of headers.
Alongside Rickie Lambert, who is getting sharper and bringing Hoilett into the game, they have a good partnership that will serve them well. That is particularly important when the lesser teams come to the Cardiff City Stadium and sit deep.
Junior Hoilett was excellent yet again

Cardiff City ecstasy checked by quality Aston Villa but they ALWAYS compete under Warnock — view from the press box
For the most part, Cardiff matched Villa, as lively and bright going forward as their hosts. Yet the final half an hour was telling, even if the Bluebirds shortcomings were exacerbated by Lee Peltier’s sending off.
Once Lambert tires, Cardiff do not have much that they change in the forward areas, creativity and speed so clearly lacking.
Craig Noone came on for Anthony Pilkington yesterday and his qualities are well known, and it’s important at this point to say that when came on against Nottingham Forest he was superb and immediately forced a goal.
The other attacking substitution saw Frederic Gounongbe came on for Lambert. He had a good chance, a free header no less, but the clinical finishing that he is said to have brought to training is still not translating onto the pitch.
Marouane Chamakh was not on the bench and neither was Lex Immers, whose combination of excellent positional awareness and hard running between the lines saved Cardiff from a similar predicament last season.
Compare that to Villa.
They started with a trident of Adomah-Kodjia-Ayew, with Grealish playing in the gaps left behind.
Kodjia was excellent. In the early stages he pulled off Sean Morrison’s shoulder over and over again, getting the centre-halves back pedalling. As the game developed he began to sit deeper and moved into the wide areas, springing as he did for his goal.
Then in the final stages, a simply sumptuous pass from just inside the Cardiff half to release Grealish for the penalty incident.
Aron Gunnarsson and Jack Grealish enjoyed a battle all afternoon

Ayew was a peripheral figure but Adomah was excellent and rewarded for his discipline in staying tight to the right-hand side. One goal, one assist, a very good day at the office for a winger.
They were good, but it was the changes Bruce was able to make that settled the contest.
Gabby Agbonlahor, fresh from his ‘mini pre-season’, was a nightmare on the break as Cardiff threw bodies forward. Rudy Gestede was an outlet while Jack Grealish enjoyed himself when moved out to the left, preying on Pilkington and Peltier’s tiredness, the pair kept busy all afternoon by Jordan Amavi’s runs from deep.
It’s what Warnock has said ever since his arrival, needing to strengthen in key areas of the first XI but also to get options to change the game late on. Ross McCormack, remarkably, was injured for the hosts and yet the absence of arguably the best striker in this league over the last few seasons barely even registered.
It’s the reason why Aston Villa, bolstered by the cold hard cash thrown at the squad in the summer, are confident that Steve Bruce’s instant impact can continue long into the winter. For Cardiff, more patience is required.

Missed my 'The Twang' post Jimbo? Villa supporting Brummie band with a chorus that goes "I feel so much better today, I chase the bad things away". The whole song fits much better than Oasis, although isn't as well known. It's chock full of Brummie accents, and the chorus makes an easily repeated terrace chant:

The defender caught Kodjia in the mouth with his hand as he swung round. It was a strange moment as I think they both thought the ref was going to blow the whistle .....

3 league wins on the trot at home.
I stand to be corrected but it appears the last time this happened was Sept/Oct 2007.

We've already done that quiz in the Steve Bruce thread.

Sorry, Risso, missed your post. It's a far better song than DLBIA, no doubt, but not as many people know it and it wasn't taken up spontaneously. Spontaneity is everything on English terraces, as a hundred failed attempts at contriving club 'anthems' demonstrate. Remember that awful dirge of a song a couple of seasons ago? Aston Villa That's Who. That was a proper toe-curler.
Anyway, aren't there some noses in The Twang?

Fair play though, the analysis from a Welsh local paper tosses all over our own.

I've been at work all weekend so haven't had time to look at every thread.
Anyway, even if I did have time I wouldn't on principle look at threads about a spudheaded bluenose reject just because he's the best manager we've had in a long while who is going to get us back in the Premier League at the first attempt.

When we beat Wigan and Burton, I wonder how far back we'll have to go to find 5 in a row!
-
Last week we outplayed a team with a reputation for a good footballing side, this week we stood up to a cynical, over physical side and won the game.
Regards adoption of don't look back in anger is there a possibility people can come up with villa inspired theme to it rather than singing about 'Sally ' and have some football related with aston villa instead . Now this wouldbe superb if lyrical genius amongst us wrote with villa feeling in mind a simple version to create an anthem with the same chorus of course but a shorter version of oasis classic

The last game of 97/98 followed by the first four games of 98/99.

I heard you say ! And i chuckle ! LetsI say something along those lines but perhaps in a more positive way towards Gabby or Bruce?(His weight slides away) Or how villa park is a better place to play ..
Good funny go though!

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/grealish-good-adomah-excellent-kodjia-12237565
Grealish good, Adomah excellent, Kodjia even better... Aston Villa's forwards show what Cardiff City must do come January
Ross McCormack, remarkably, was injured for the hosts and yet the absence of arguably the best striker in this league over the last few seasons barely even registered.
It is in a forward line with remarkable variety and quality, able to withstand injuries and African Cup of Nations call-ups. It cost a fortune, but is starting to deliver points with regularity.
It’s the reason why Aston Villa, bolstered by the cold hard cash thrown at the squad in the summer, are confident that Steve Bruce’s instant impact can continue long into the winter. For Cardiff, more patience is required.
11th in the table, fifth favourites to go up.
Hmm, optimism ahoy! :)

What a typical Warnock side were they, Ran/appealed/argued over everything. didn't like the way they went down Mark Vivian-Foe like as if they were genuinely in a bad way, motionless, no appealing, lifeless etc. - that is dangerous on the basis of crying wolf. Good to see us grinding a result out when we didn't play that well. defending corners has definitely improved.
-
Great win.
Please stop playing Oasis.

Agreed.

Also not a fan of Don't Look Back In Anger, I mean I like the idea of it, and it gets everyone singing... But it just seems a little small-time using a song from a band who are so associated with another club. I mean imagine playing that after we play Man City?
The Twang song would be much more fitting (the lead singer is a big Villa fan too), it doesn't have to be song from a Brummie band, mind.
-
On the song debate someone in the queue for the train at Brighton last week started singing "the day we caught the train" by OCS. It was superb and it got me thinking that this would sound great with the Villa fans belting out the chorus. Lead singer Simon Fowler is a big Villa fan so for me this would be a much better choice than any Oasis song who are such big Man City fans.
But your ok with us singing a song by Man City loving 90s band Oasis?
-
The Day We Caught The Train is a good shout
-
To be honest, I rather like the irony of playing Oasis after we stick three past Citeh in our 2017 FA Cup quarter final at Villa Park

There are noses in the Twang. There is probably nosed & villa in every Brummie band.
But the Villa belting out an Oasis song absolutely boils my piss. They are Man City supporters. We are Aston Villa supporters.. I can't think of another club's supporters who would seem so happy with such an obvious own goal.
-
Nearly every song sung at VP originated from songs that hit the charts by non-Villa fans.
It's just a song that is sung at the end of a game, it is not even a chant. What is all the fuss about? It's happened naturally, rather than some manufactured nonsense and most seem to enjoy singing along to it.
I bet Nicky Keye must be counting her blessings that she's left.
-
So Jeff Beck was a Villa fan?
Whoever wrote liquidator supported Wolves/Albion/Chelsea?
Whoever wroth The Sh*s song supported them?
I'm forever blowing bubbles an Iron?
etc etc etc
It's really nothing to get worked up about.
-

I find the DLBIA thing a bit corny to be honest, and a bit odd that we are singing something associated with another club. Although at the same time, the problem with The Twang is that nobody actually knows their songs.
In the wider scheme of things, it doesn't really matter. Who cares, so long as we keep on doing well?

I get what your saying but I don't think you get where myself and countless others are coming from. Non of those songs were written by a band who so vehemently support a rival club. Oasis ARE massively Man City.. Thats the big difference with every other song you mention.

The Day We Caught The Train is a good shout
No, no it isn't.

According to Wikipedia, The White Stripes aren't dyed-in-the-wool Villa fans from Pype Hayes. What on earth were we thinking when we adopted their tune Seven Nation Army for our Benteke song? I'm now glad we sold him, and wish all his goals for us can be unscored.
-
The Day We Caught The Train is a good shout
No, no it isn't.
Yes, yes it is. It has a great chorus and for those who don't know the words the club could put them on the big screen. Anything is better than Villa fans singing an Oasis song and paying homage to a manc band who are massive supporters of a rival club.
-
The Twang song fails because nobody knows it and it's only got one line that you can sing.
Like the video around the HP sauce factory though.
Talking of songs strongly associated with other clubs, I seem to remember us singing You'll Never Walk Alone down Villa Park in the 70/80s...even in games when we weren't playing Man Utd. Have I got that wrong? I was only a kid at the time.
-

I don't need Wikipedia to tell me that Oasis are huge Man City fans. I don't have a clue which club The White Stripes follow. That's the bit that is lost on some villa fans.

I think you've missed the point by a million miles. The words 'the day we caught the train' aren't relevant in the slightest, whereas 'don't look back in anger' is rather appropriate considering the last five years of unmitigated shit. It's only a song they play at the end of games we win, and they only play it because of a spontaneous reaction to it by our fans at an away game we won after failing to win away for 6000 years. It is not a club anthem.

We should totally change the end music after a run of 7 games without defeat. And when the run ends the change of music will look like a great decision.

Where do we draw the line though? Only sign players that are Villa fans? Refuse a taxi because the driver is a Blues fan?
Nearly every song sung at VP has been shamelessly stolen from some other team.
It's just a song, the writers are immaterial.
It is something that took off at Reading and the club acted upon it, I think they should be given a break here.

Your stretching the point now. The issue here is about a song that some people don't want to join in with due to it being so heavily associated with a rival club.
Put it this way. Would we sing Walk on? Or dare I say it keep right on? No chance because those songs are so heavily associated with rival clubs. Thats how I see DLBIA. Some agree with me, others don't. It's a free country. I'll continue to exercise my right not to join in with that particular song choice.
-
Thanks to Thick Mike for giving overdue credit to the role of the Fisherman's Pie and the Orange Spot (although I thought it was dot). I have taken this as inspiration to rewrite the chorus of DLBIA to fit our club, as someone else suggested. Behold:
Oh Fisherman's Pie
We know this is why
We are roaring on by
But that's not the lot
Cos we can always call on
The Orange Dot(Spot)
A massive improvement on the original lyrics, in my humble opinion. This also led me to rewrite something else - to the tune of American Pie:
Bye bye, it's the Fisherman's Pie
It's my dinner for the Villa
Til the day that I die.
You think you can beat us, you can give it a try
But you haven't had the Fisherman's Pie
Haven't had the Fisherman's Pie.
There you go. Try linking that to Noel Gallagher. I hope this all settles this important debate.

And some - a lot of - people do join in, which is why it's sung. For years we've bemoaned the lack of atmosphere, something associated with us, whatever you want to call it. We've winced at the club's initatives and agreed that these things only work when they start organically, from the supporters. Now we've got something that was started by supporters, has grown organically and we're beginning to identify with. But...but...but...
-
It's just the club trying to take a bit of initiative. They don't seem to be able to do right from wrong. Villa sung "Walk On" for donkies years. They also sing "Nigel Spink, threw the ball to Platty" which is a version of Newcastles Blayden Races. Feel free not to join in, nobody has suggested that you should join in. I don't join in either as I'm on the road outside as soon as the whistle goes.
I much prefer the Oasis song to the cringeworthy, annoying Kumbya M'Lord that is sung at every game, with new silly verses added regularly.

Aye, because this longstanding rivalry with Citeh is known throughout the game.
-

If I was in charge of match security for just one game, the batons would come out as soon as that dirge made an appearance.
Football songs haven't always been hugely imaginative but three (or three'n'abit) words tacked on to an already shit song is a woeful effort.

When did we and everyone else except Liverpool and Celtic stop singing YNWA? It's a question that comes up regularly.

I don't think that many of Noel Gallagher's songs are about anything much are they? He just picks words that rhyme and that's about it.
-

I remember singing it around the time we were last relegated but not much after. We used to bastardise it as well, adding handclaps and turning it staccato.

Crikey. I was half expecting a barrage for my comment. It's refreshing to read that I'm not alone in disliking this particular terrace song.

Certainly not the last time but I noticed a hearty rendition at the 75 league Cup Final, video posted in the memories section. It does seem quite weird to hear our fans singing it now though, even if it was 40 years ago.
-

Hillsborough must be a big part of other teams not singing it any more? I think after that more than ever it was regarded as "their" song. The bloke singing it on the last day of the old Holte got a bit of stick for singing it.

I'm with you both, it's awful. I particularly dislike the "shit support" verse, with the associated flapping of arms in the rough direction of the opposite stands. Embarrassing.

That was one of my favourite ever Villa memories. I was feeling quite choked that day and feared it would all be a bit emotional...then Dave Chance sang YNWA and I just started pissing myself laughing. That must have been the longest two minutes of his life!

I get what your saying but I don't think you get where myself and countless others are coming from. Non of those songs were written by a band who so vehemently support a rival club. Oasis ARE massively Man City.. Thats the big difference with every other song you mention.
I do get it but my point is that given the paucity of just about any song coming out of Villa Park for many a year now having one more closely associated with man city than us is better than the rubbish we have been singing for a while.

Shit support, empty seats - OUR lot signing about empty seats, firchrissakes. Opposition supporters rightly mock us for it.

We should put some stirring words to Spring from the Four Seasons Suite...get Nige on the centre circle playing it in a Villa shirt.

Just drop the "Don't".....

I wouldn't have said any Oasis song is a "Man City song" just because Noel & Liam are visible Man city fans.
Blue moon is their thing and by Christ they can keep that, remind which famous Man City fan wrote that?
Why people are becoming precious over a popular song purely because of who the band that recorded it support? now that's small time.
-
Pros of DLBIA:
The title of the song has some pertinence to our plight of recent years.
Its adoption was a spontaneous moment linked to something which hopefully will be seen as a major turning point for years to come. When we're in the CL in a few years, it'll be a case of "remember Ayew's pen in the last minute at Reading" (I can dream).
Lots of people know the words.
Cons of DLBIA:
Nothing else in the song bar the title has anything remotely to do with football or Villa.
It takes too long to get to the chorus for the tenuously relevant bit.
It's already becoming the next why didn't Barry take the penalty.
On balance I'm happy for the club to keep playing it after every win. Long may the winning run continue.

Maybe but to me Oasis are too heavily associated with Man City for me to feel happy singing one of their songs on the Villa terraces.

Anyways
I thought at times the play was decent and we looked strong in defence. Only a cock up by Pointy meant they scored. Thought defence went a little shakey the minute Chester went to left side and Elphick came on (he really worries me)
Thought Hutton was his usual average at best, best and would prefer Bacuna there
Overall - cannot wait for Dirty Leeds as I think against the better sides we play better

This for me. Couldn't give a toss otherwise...

I'd have to argue that given the losing 'mentality' of the team in recent years lends some relevance to the opening lines of the song. Maybe it's just that more people know the chorus.
I'm kind of in a place where I think it is weird to have an Oasis song, but only about as weird as me now idolising the manager I was calling 73 types of c*** for dancing on our pitch a few years ago when the idiots down the road came back to draw 2-2.
We live in strange times.

Meaning no offence to you personally, I don't think that anyone calling themselves The Edge can dish out advice on music on H&V with any credibility!

Somebody should tell Preston to stop coming out to the (excellent) This is the One, as Ian Brown is a Man United fan.

I wonder if Man City fans stop to check if the Inspiral Carpets support them before they sing about Phil Jones and Kun Aguero?
Must be confusing, as Man United fans sing their songs too.

I like Oasis and I like the song to be honest. It has other meanings for also related to the very unexpected passing of a good friend a few years ago. But if it helps bring in a new era and allows us to at start to separate ourselves from the past 5 or so miserable years then I am all for it.
-
The Day We Caught The Train is a good shout
No, no it isn't.
This needs reiterating.

Everton supporters in London for the cup final and Ali was out on a training run in Hyde Park, I think!

Missed a trick not finishing up with Meet El Presidente from local dandies Duran Duran at the weekend.
Current, with The Good Doctor in town and Castro carking it. And they are Villa fans, so Bono's mate who posts on here now wouldn't have been boiling industrial vats of piss.
-
I'd rather have Abide With Me so we can all be word perfect at the Cup Final.

This is all bollocks. That's not a song title by the way .

Plenty of knickers in a twist over DLBIA it seems :-). Not sure it's possible to get a song that all will like...or even know (the Twang I wouldn't recognise if they introduced themselves as the Twang) perhaps we should suggest the club buy 30 odd thousand pairs of Ian Taylor's headphones and hand them out to fans so we can listen to our own tunes whilst walking out?
Personally I am of the generation that DLBIA, Wonderwall, Mr Brightside, Sex on Fire & Song 2 are played as a matter of course on pretty much any night out so I associate the tune with having a good time & a few beers rather than dissecting the writing credits....
Used to prefer the days that all the music was supplied by Andy Cash records....🎤🎧🎼🎸
-
I don't like this Oasis bollocks at the end though.
All right, all right, all right it's great! Better than Kumbaya, Shitting on the City, and everything. It brings atmosphere to the ground and unites the fans.

Unlikely songs can crystallise a perfect moment.
From my youth, Wild Boys by Duran Duran, Maggie May by Rod Stewart and Carolina on My Mind by John Denver have all been anthems amongst groups of friends. Chosen because they happened to be playing as something significant happened. It seems to me that this is what has happened with DLBIA.
-
I enjoyed the goal celebration camera on Facebook. Dr Tone gets excited but I enjoyed watching Sir Brian and the grey haired Ian Taylor.
Celebration Cam: Watch our owner Dr Tony Xia and the famous Holte End show their delight at our win over Cardiff City Football Club.

Good point, Queen Bitch by Bowie, Daydreamer by David Cassidy and Meet me on the Corner by Lindisfarne all have a similar meaning to a group of us yet only one of them is something I would listen to through choice.

If all we can argue about is a song that has taken a bit of a life of it's own in the stands then you can tell things ar going okay just now.
