Can I be the first person on this thread to say that I think we are going to give someone a hiding soon.

A win and we get to within a point of Brentford, lose and we're 7 points behind them. I'll go 2 nil to us. Fuck a lead up though and there will be murmers

Could really do with a win, I think this game will suit us better than the Forest game, Brentford try and play football, Forest had no intentions of doing anything other than slowing the game down. 2-1 Kodjia and Grealish.

Its a tricky match.  They had a good win at Brighton and look a solid Championship side.  Things could get a bit edgy at VP if we have a slow start.  I do hope we pick up but I'm going for another draw 1-1.  Chester for us.

Any win will do. Looks like good injury news - but I can't see us bringing all three into the midfield in one go

I'm really undecided who I'd play. I think there's a good case for gestede as a physical threat at home in these sort of games. He's done well in them this season so far.

Maybe as follows - but depends on training really which we can't be privy to

Gollini / bunn

De laet elphick Chester cissokho

Adomah Jedi / Tish westy ayew

Gestede kodjia

Subs: steer / bunn baker bacuna baker Tish / Jedi grealish McCormack
Title: Re: Aston Villa vs Brentford Pre-Match Thread
Post by: ozzjim on September 12, 2016, 07:57:54 PM
3-1 Villa

Gestede, Kodjia, Grealish

I would go 3-5-2, with Baker coming in at the back, Jedinak and Tshibola into midfield if fit, Amavi and De Laet out wide and a front 3 of Ayew, Gestede and Kodjia, bringing Jack and McCormack on when they tire.

Someone is due a tonking and I fucking hope we don't hit the bloody woodwork again. Early days it may be but I think this is must win. If we want to stay within sniffing distance of the top 6 we need to win. In our position, with our fragility, lagging too far behind would be a disaster.

3-1.
Kodija
Ayew
Big Rudy.

Once we start believing in ourselves, take our chances and make the most of our periods of dominence we will shit on most of this league I feel. Newcastle likely will too. Cut the sloppiness and just try and make things easier for ourselves. That extends to RDM too, who showed a lot of naivity once we went 2-1 up. He took a big gamble leaving just one CM on the pitch. It paid off in turning the game round but at that point we should have put someone else in there, either Jed or Leandro to provide more presence without having to necessarily lose the front foot. He won't make that mistake again.
And lets get ruthless now.

Hoping for a win but, when teams are announced and I hear those two terrible words, Westwood & Gardner, my heart will sink once again. Don't you think it has the same effect on the other players in the team? If those two start displaying any Italian tendencies, we will know there's more to it than meets the eye!!!

Think we could do with a bit of a change to shake things up a bit.  Any news on Tshibola, Jedinak and Adomah?

I know Ayew has had a bit of criticism on here recently, but he does add that big of spark when he gets into central areas.  I would quite like to see him play behind a front two of Kodjia and either McCormack or Gestede on Wednesday and maybe have an extra body in midfield, with a Jedinak sitting just in front of the defence if fit.

Ta Badminton.

Had a quick look at their squad and the odd name sounds familiar. In particular McEachran; ex-Chelsea tiny midfielder.

I'm hoping it all clicks for us and we give them a pasting. Depends on availability of a few such as Jedinak and Grealish, but if we have our best players available then we've a good chance of seeing a few goals.

I'll go 3-1.

I know things are different these days, but we've completely overhauled the side and its Brentford we're talking about here.

McEachran doesn't get a kick in this side at the minute. They play Woods and Yennaris as their two central midfielders and both are dynamic and able to pass the ball. McEachran is lightweight and unlikely to ever flourish, particularly in the Championship.

It's likely they will give a first start to Sullay Kaikai on loan from Palace. I think the way they are likely to score is by Villa pushing their full-backs up the pitch and becoming exposed in transition. Macleod and Sawyers are clever players and Hogan doesn't need many chances to make the opposition pay.

Need a win and we will get it 3 - 1.

Gollini, De Laet, Elphick, Chester, Cissokho. Ayew, Westwood, Jedinak, Grealish, Mccormack, Kodija

Bunn, Baker, Amavi , Gardner, Bacuna, Tshibola, Adamoah, Gestede

Serious competition for places now in the attacking 4 particularly. Bacuna and Gestede have played well this season but can't get in and we haven't seen enough of Amavi, Tshibola and Adamoah just yet.  The worry is that Jedinak and Westwood aren't the most mobile and will have to cover a lot of ground. Still it's the strongest squad we have had since the MON days I reckon.

We look bang average in the middle of the park with either Westwood and Gardner in there (never mind both of them!) so would want to see Jedinak and Tshibola in there if fit.

Other than that I wouldn't be looking to make any changes from the side that started against Forest.

Strengthen the midfield and I can see us coming out comfortable winners; I'll go 3-1 McCormack, Kdojia and Ayew.

I refuse to look at the league table at the moment for two reasons. Firstly it's disappointing and secondly it in no way reflects the quality of our team. It's time to start getting results that reflect the talent we have, beginning with a win tomorrow.

Dean Smith's a Villa fan isn't he?

Did a really good job at Walsall and after a dodgy spell has got Brentford just outside the play offs where they'll probably finish the season.

Brentford will come and attack and play football so I reckon that's good opponents for us to get an overdue win as we'll have more space to work with in the final third then Forest game.

I don't think we will steamroller anybody until confidence is flowing.

I fully expect us to create 15/16 chances and enough to batter Brentford, but we won't put them away.

Not only do we need to get in the habit of grinding out a win, any win, but we must also get in the habit of doing it week after week. I actually think we'll get the win tonight. 2-1.

The next step is consistency, and that will also take time to achieve. Our new midfield pairing of Jedinak and Tshibola haven't played a single game together yet. That's not going to click immediately. Which is why I don't expect us to go flying up the table any time soon.

We play like we did Sunday with a stronger midfield and I can see only one outcome. Slaughter!

Crowd looks very similar to the Forest game on the online seating plan. However Forest sold out 2800, I doubt Brentford will bring that many.

Might take my lad to his first game tonight. He's 8 now and I didn't want to expose him to the atmosphere last season.

Was about the same age when I went to my first game. Evening matches are a good choice. Will never forget the feeling of seeing the pitch under the floodlights for the first time  8)

30,000 on a midweek night aint bad, apart from the Geordies no other team in the division will get that many for a midweek game this season.

Not a ST holder this season but have just decided to get tickets for tonight to go up after work, with the attacking options we have we will put a few past someone soon! 3-1 or 3-2 Villa tonight (conceding a 2nd late on to make it nervy would be true Villa style).

We need to keep pace with Newcastle, 9 points behind them already need to cut it back to 6 tonight. They have a new team too pretty much but have settled much faster.

Same level of performance as Forest in the second half and we beat Brentford handy.

People bang on about how many Leeds get, 19K last night.

Brentford have sold just under 2000 tickets apparently.

Ticket prices are crucial in that regard.. I didn't think 20 quid for adults was too bad for tonight - with >£15 for concessions and minors. A Norwich-supporting friend of mine said their base category adult tickets are minimum £30 this season!

Offer more cheap tickets and we will come. That said, offering big discounts once people have forked out for season tickets will always cause problems

Tickets aren't discounted though. It's just the match day prices. Only the Lower North is £20 tonight.

That might be a combo offer, single tickets for Lower Holte are £23 wings and £25 the rest. Dunno about the Upper as didn't check those.

Easier run down the M56 though, I always found it quicker leaving Liverpool through the tunnel and out that way.

That's a good shout, happened against Huddersfield and we do have a habit of coming out first half and then being made to pay for missed chances by the end. Just had a couple of quid on this at 14/1 on B365.

Me and the lad are going in the Witton wings by the Holte, was not able to get seats a fancied in the Holte itself.  Hopefully he enjoys it enough to go again. And again.... and of course that he's a lucky charm!!!

Banking at every betting-site that we going to destroy them!!

This is the day that Villa stops letting us down after years of abuse and shape up, shed the losing culture and start marching back to where they belong! The line is here...today! 18th in the Championship. That's a far as it goes. It ends now! Brentford will suffer the wrath for Sunday, for the poor start, for last year, for last years! and they will cover in fear of that Villa Juggernaut onslaught that starts rolling tonight!

My prediction for tonight; a 2-1 Villa win.
