Benteke to interrupt the Kane wanking circle by barging in with his beast and spaffing a couple of goals all over the biscuit.

Didn't know he got injured last night at Wolves. Better make that Benteke then!

Tim Sherwood said Villa still have injury issues ahead of the weekend clash with Tottenham - although he was pleased with the return of Aly Cissokho and Libor Kozak.

Sherwood has big doubts about Alan Hutton, Ashley Westwood and Scott Sinclair on the eve of the trip to White Hart Lane.

Hutton - who Sherwood described as a "warrior" and someone you'd want in a survival battle - is unlikely to face Spurs due to a foot problem.

Sinclair and Westwood, meanwhile, are still struggling with hamstring issues picked up on the eve of the Man Utd clash.

There was good news, however, with the manager confirming that Aly Cissokho had returned to training this week.

He also spoke of his delight at seeing Libor Kozak back, the Czech Republic striker having played almost 70 minutes for the U21s in their 1-0 win over Wolves on Wednesday.

The boss will assess Cissokho for the capital clash while he warned of expecting too much, too soon with Kozak, who was out for over a year.

He said: "It's pretty much how it was - chronic.

"There were some players the other night who hadn't really trained but it was a needs-must situation.

"I am hoping the boys who played against QPR will benefit from their time out on the pitch and be a lot stronger for the game at the weekend.

"We haven't done a lot today. We won't do a lot tomorrow. It's about recovery - and knowing what their jobs are."

On Kozak being available against Spurs, he added: "No. It's great he's back. I am pleased for him. But he's been out for 14 months.

"You're asking for a disaster to happen. He's a good lad. We have to be careful with him.

"He's come this far. We have to make sure we give him the right preparation.

"Hopefully he will be in time for the end of the season. At the moment it's too soon.

"He realises this as well. He is going to need a bit more time."

Sherwood will assess Carles Gil, who came off against Wolves in the U21 clash on Wednesday with a deadleg.

It will be interesting to see how we play against Spurs under Sherwood. We have put in some pretty dire performances against them in recent times (including a game under McLeish which was perhaps our worst).

Hopefully Sherwood who knows them better can help us get the points. Regardless Tim needs to watch what he says this week, don't do a Houllier Tim, there is no way back from that!

Can't see us getting anything here... 3-1 to Spuds... Kane to score wonder goal... then another and then another. Benteke to squeeze one in, in the first half.

We never get anything at their place.

Not really as he didn't spend months managing the QPR players knowing their strengths and weaknesses from working with them every day.

We always do worse than I predict. So I'm gonna make my prediction so preposterously pro-Villa that it has to go a long way to be dragged back. So:
"Club with only 2 championships the last of which was in 1961 yet regarded bafflingly as one of the most famous clubs in world football" 0 - 9 "Club with 7 championships and a lot more besides yet constantly denigrated".

I'm far from his biggest fan, but this is a bit harsh.

He's not sending out press releases with his thoughts on Spurs, he's contracted to hold pre-match press conferences and he'll answer the questions that are posed to him.

Against any other opponent I would hope that he goes with the standard "I'm here to talk about Villa, not Spurs" approach, but when we're playing Spurs it's to be expected that he'll be asked questions about them, he'll answer them and those are the bits that will be most-widely reported.

I was living in Rushden, Northamptonshire when I attended my first Villa match v Spurs away on 19th March, 1966 - It so happened that one of the teachers at our school had moved to Enfield. At this time I was 14 years old. So, he arranged for us to go down in the morning to play his new school team and then to go to the match at Spurs in the afternoon. The vast majority of my team mates decided that Spurs was their team but, I just loved the name - ASTON VILLA so, I was about the only one to cheer on the side. Of course, I thought I'd made a bad mistake as we were 5-1 down at half time and, you can all imagine the ribbing I was taking. By the end of the match, I was the one that was smiling as we pulled it back to 5-5 by full time and had Mr Deakin scored, when presented with a great chance a couple of minutes from the end we would have pulled off a real miracle .... I was totally hooked and, imagine my pleasure when my job enabled me to come to live in Brum 6 years later and, have lived here ever since.
So, come on you Villa boys - you can do it!!

I would go:

Guzan

Lowton
Okore
Clark
Cissokho (if fit).

Delph
Sanchez (only as we need to play 3 in mid, and we've got nobody else)
Cleverley

Grealish
Benteke
Gabby

Spurs backline are quite clumsy so I'd stick with Grealish. Those weaving runs might win us a few freekicks.

Our defence is so hideously cobbled together right now. That's been the biggest issue for Timmy since he got here. I don't think he's a defence minded manager by any stretch. But he certainly could do with our best 4 at the back, fit and playing. At least to keep the scores down.
At the other end he's made significant improvements.

Aston Villa have lost nine of their last 12 league games, and only won two out of 17.
They have suffered seven defeats in eight away games, with the exception being the 4-0 win over Sunderland.
Villa are still nine points adrift of their lowest final tally in a Premier League campaign: 38 points in 2011-12 and 2013-14.

Doesn't make good reading

Sounds like a relegation season when put like that. Looking back we haven't got enough from the 'new manager bounce', 2 wins from his opening 7 in the league when only one of the games was against top 6 opposition, we needed a bit more. The Stoke, Swansea and Newcastle games ought to have yielded 3-4 points at least for us.

Those Swansea and Stoke last minute defeats could prove crucial

The classic thing to do in a relegation battle is tighten up at the back. Two years ago we scored a bundle to get ourselves our of it but that involved a lot of very late winners (QPR, Stoke, Norwich)

I'm worried were so open at the back

Unfortunately the Newcastle/Stoke games came too early into Sherwood's tenure and we were still struggling to get over the demons from Lambert's. No doubt we would have been a lot more comfortable had the change of managers been made sooner.

The away game I most want Villa to win every year but sadly I think it's too much of a stretch for us this season. Spurs are absolute pricks to a man but I think they'll rattle in a few if we continue to make such schoolboy errors at the back. Unless we score with every decent chance it could be 4-2. Would bloody love it if we kept Kane quiet and won it 2-1 though, come on the Villa!!

Given in goal tomorrow?

Sherwood and others on bench were not happy with Guzan first half on Tuesday

He's been a bit off of late to be honest. Given on the other hand has been superb in the cup games. I don't think Guzan will get dropped yet though. He's got away with a few, but he's not really had a huge rick yet. If he drops an absolute clanger he may well get benched.

One of the great games - you were lucky to be there. I believe that the score was regularly updated on the old manual scoreboard at Villa Park during the reserve game.

3-1 I reckon - We'll score first, start acting like it's easy and then get shown up.
Don't see many points being picked up below us in the table this weekend, so not a disaster, and I predict a "no change at the foot of the table" from Gary Lineker on MOTD.

Spurs last 5 home games have seen them ship 9 goals. Both teams will score, can we get a break today? 3 pts would be massive and I'd go as far as to say it would be the defining result and we would definitely stay up.

Dropping Guzan would only be an option if he had a better understudy. Given's a good shotstopper but offers nothing else. He has no control of his box (so would put more pressure on a weak defence) and makes too many mistakes. The save he made against Leicester which he got praised for was due to a mistake in the first place. It was bad enough dropping Okore and Lowton, the last thing we need is more change at the back. We need to pick our best back 5 and stick to it until the end of the season (injuries/suspensions permitting). For me that's Guzan-Hutton-Okore-Clark-Lowton, with possibly using Bacuna at right back when it suits us.

Guzan does come and catch crosses though which reassures the defenders in front of him. His distribution can be good (see Weimann's goal against Man City last season) but isn't nearly consistent enough. Guzan seems a better talker too. Even if they were the same, it would still be disturbing an already unsettled defence, which we need to get away from.

Grealish gets fouled on average every 22 minutes. Which, over 10 appearances, is the most frequent in the league. Spurs defence is pretty clumsy, so I would expect Jack to win us a few free-kicks. I think this is a game he could shine in. He deserves to keep his place after tuesday too.

Yes, I was happy with Grealish's performance the other night. A number of times he did that 'ball's attached to my foot' thing that the best kids you played football with had a habit of doing. It seems the most popular way to try and get the ball back is to foul the bloke.

One thing that I'd like to see him do is leather the ball once he gets into the box. I have no idea if he can kick the ball really hard, but against QPR he had a shot which came to him on the rebound which Green comfortably smothered, and there didn't seem to be much zest behind it.

He got a bit of zip behind his freekick. I don't think we'll ever see him unleash a Hitzlsperger special though. To be fair to Jack, that chance he had, Green was very quick to it. I thought it was more excellent keeping as opposed to a poor finish.

I guess Sherwood just really would prefer a left footer at left back. I dunno. Had Lowtons performances not dropped in the previous couple of games, he might have stayed in at left back. But he was only ever plugging a gap.

My only hope is that Richardson looks fitter this week. But honestly, I'm expecting him to get targeted from the off.

Sanchez has to play, for no other reason than we need 3 in midfield and we've only got 3 fit.

2-2 which I think should be a better point for us than on Tuesday considering our rivals have tough fixtures this weekend and are unlikely to pick up much.
