We do have a problem with injuries in defence  but just getting the basics right would eliminate  some of the goals we give away.

Aston Villa have lost nine of their last 12 league games, and only won two out of 17.
They have suffered seven defeats in eight away games, with the exception being the 4-0 win over Sunderland.
Villa are still nine points adrift of their lowest final tally in a Premier League campaign: 38 points in 2011-12 and 2013-14.

Doesn't make good reading

Sounds like a relegation season when put like that. Looking back we haven't got enough from the 'new manager bounce', 2 wins from his opening 7 in the league when only one of the games was against top 6 opposition, we needed a bit more. The Stoke, Swansea and Newcastle games ought to have yielded 3-4 points at least for us.

Those Swansea and Stoke last minute defeats could prove crucial

The classic thing to do in a relegation battle is tighten up at the back. Two years ago we scored a bundle to get ourselves our of it but that involved a lot of very late winners (QPR, Stoke, Norwich)

I'm worried were so open at the back

Unfortunately the Newcastle/Stoke games came too early into Sherwood's tenure and we were still struggling to get over the demons from Lambert's. No doubt we would have been a lot more comfortable had the change of managers been made sooner.

The away game I most want Villa to win every year but sadly I think it's too much of a stretch for us this season. Spurs are absolute pricks to a man but I think they'll rattle in a few if we continue to make such schoolboy errors at the back. Unless we score with every decent chance it could be 4-2. Would bloody love it if we kept Kane quiet and won it 2-1 though, come on the Villa!!

Given in goal tomorrow?

Sherwood and others on bench were not happy with Guzan first half on Tuesday

I would be shocked especially as Given will start the semi final anyway.

He's been a bit off of late to be honest. Given on the other hand has been superb in the cup games. I don't think Guzan will get dropped yet though. He's got away with a few, but he's not really had a huge rick yet. If he drops an absolute clanger he may well get benched.

Guzan had definitely been on a bit of a bad run. Not clangers just poor decisions. Still not sure I would drop him though.
