What a load of tommy tank. Expect Cole and Grealish on for the last 15 minutes in a desperate attempt to avoid scoring zero for the umpteenth time. Merry '15 you feckers

No Cole or grealish. Very Little creativity again

Surely one or other of them would be better than Weimann at the moment

Glad to be following this one on the phone whilst having a family dinner to be honest

Lambert obviously has no interest in what we, the fans, say.
How Grealish isn't in the starting lineup is beyond me.

Come on Villa, prove me wrong. Come on Cleverley, you too. In my opinion, you're the most uninspiring midfielder I've seen in a long time. You're that dull, I prefer Westwood. Get some creativity in the team, Lambert, you plank.

Anyway, good luck Villa.

Lambert has turned into TSM and is almost scared to be attacking and adventurous. The defence is playing well enough to keep the score down so why by so conservative in attack? Today should have presented a good opportunity to "have a go" so to speak. Like others, I expect the creative players to be thrown on more in desperation than as a tactical move in the last 20min or so.

That's pretty irrelevant, though. No manager should take selection advice from the fans.

I have a good feeling about today - I don't understand why JG isn't starting, but I reckon we'll have no troubles in doing Palace either way.

Think Lambert sees the midfield trio as critical for controlling possession, so I guess with the players available, it had to be those three. Happy to see Bacuna start.  The forward line is disappointing though, really thought Jack deserved a start. Really need Gabby and Weimann to discover some form if we're to get goals today. UTV

No, absolutely. What I'm trying to say is that surely he can see that the fans are crying out for entertainment, for goals. Surely he can feel the sense of expectancy when Grealish comes on and runs at players? He's often spoken about how great Villa Park is when 'you get it going'. Yet Lambert seems to shy away from any sort of exciting flair play. He's not going to 'get it going' with Weimann, Cleverley and company running around like headless chickens.

After last week I decided to give this one a miss. I may have made the right choice. Crystal Palace have problems scoring so he picks Agbonlahor and the dreadful Weimann to make sure we dont!

Its demoralising.

But he thinks we're demolishing teams and just unlucky in from of goal (as opposed to being lucky to get near the goal)

He's gone for the rather not lose approach than try to win. Keep it tight and maybe pinch a goal. If not fist pump the 0-0 and go again.

Aside from putting Bacuna in, that's a disappointing lineup. Cleverley is shit. Weimann is long overdue dropping and Gabby you just live in the hope he has one of his good games in 10.

I would hope we'll see Grealish come on early if he's needed. Theres no creativity in that side. The sooner Lambert realises Gabby and Weimann aren't creative players (or goalscorers) the better.

Did you see the other day, the OS quoted him as saying the Premier League is of a poor quality this season?

This from the manager of a team which has scored 11 goals in half a season of it.

Fucking useless formation that means all our threat has to come from the full-backs. Lambert was supposed to be an adaptable manager, but he just does the same thing, over and over again, and it's fucking dire. Someone needs to explain to him what the words "attacking midfielder" mean.

The formation just doesn't work. There's no consistent threat. It takes us five minutes to laboriously work the ball out to one of the full-backs, and then they struggle to beat the first man. And there is literally no other threat, the ball isn't going into the box from any other outlet.

It might work if your full-backs are Lahm or Baines or Kolarov, and you have some intelligent movement around them and runners into the box. But if Lambert thinks it can work with these players, he's a moron.

This is pretty awful, isn't it?

Well, there are a couple of reasons for…..well, not optimism I suppose, not with Lambert still in charge, but at least some vague indefinable feeling that possibly things might get better one day.

Okore, Sanchez and Benteke are all good players and provide a good strong 'spine' to the team. Hutton is in good form. And although it's hardly helping us much at the moment, we are doing better in terms of possession.

That's it, though.

Has Gabby done anything this half? Has he run ran at all with the ball at his feet?

I would give many things in this world for Lambert to be booted out of Villa Park.

The football is appalling. This Sanchez to Cleverley, back to Sanchez monotony. Sometimes out to Hutton who cuts inside. And does nothing. Benteke is being starved. Cissohko never seems to ever put in a decent cross. It's abysmal to watch. Bacuna can't seem to find a man with his passes. Weimann is having another shocking season.
Title: Re: Aston Villa v Crystal Palace match thread

Boos ring out at HT. Good. It should be made abundantly clear that this isn't good enough. Hutton is our right back but he's the one trying to drive the team forward and trying to rally everyone else to up the tempo.
Why aren't our attackers, or one of TC or Bacuna doing this? It's all so languid and there's no urgency.

Aside from Hutton, Okore and Sanchez, no one else seems too bothered about trying to play football. Benteke looks bored stiff.

Awful stuff. The front 3 are offering nothing ,with the system with 3 in the middle the front 3 need to get wide and create but they don't there is no options wide other than the full backs.

We are keeping the ball by taking the safe pass every single time.

It really is both shocking and predictable to watch. What is Sanchez supposed to do with the ball, there is no movement whatsoever. Just as a variation, try to get some crosses in. How are we suppposed to score playing like this ? One goal from midfield all season and yet he persist with "the goals will come", "there has been good goalkeeping", blah blah blah

Afternoon, gents.

Missed the first half as I was traveling down to Porto and just checked in. I gather is was business as usual. Well I hope you all enjoy the second half, we're generally not complete shit for 90 minutes so you could be in for 45 minutes of wild entertainment.

Me? I'm off to drink some Port and enjoy the sunshine. I've done more than my fair share of suffering, I more than deserve a break from Lambert's Villa.

If Fox can't see this is turgid crap and the revenue will continue to fall while Lambert is allowed to continue, there's no hope of improvement. Our build up play is slow predictable and there's no movement off the ball. Fox talking about convincing Vlaar and Delph to stay is a task he's unlikely to win if any big clubs come calling.

Lambert needs to go and a big name manager might convince them but that's not going to happen.

If we're lucky we might just keep above the bottom four but only just.

Commentators obeservations.

"If you're going to have to this amount of possession against a team sitting as deep as Palace, the movement needs to be better and the passing sharper"
"Need someone who can take a player on"
"Hutton seems to be the only one who recognises they need better movement"
"Agbonhalor and Weimann need to offer more"

If we can all see it, commentators can see it, why the bloody hell can't Lambert.

that's all I'd seen until I logged on here. more proof that Villa are crap when they have too much of the ball.

they should give up on this passing the ball around at the back, just hoof the ball upfield and then pick the opposition off on the break.

are villa still persisting with Brad throwing/kicking the ball to the full backs standing on the goal line ?

You know when the Birmingham Six were let out of prison, and there was that footage of them, emerging into the modern world, after almost 20 years inside, unaware of the way things worked, a world to which they had never really been exposed, a world where they had to learn how to live again, it was so alien to what they had known before?

Or Nelson Mandela, walking down that road with Winnie after being let out of prison, decades breaking rocks on Robben Island, and then he's out and having to come to terms with what must have seemed a whole new dimension to him?

Well, that is exactly how I imagine it must feel for Carlos Sanchez having to play with these fucking muppets after spending the summer playing for Colombia in the world cup.

Has a manager ever been sacked at the half time break?

Lambert your clueless.  He should be sacked before the half time whistle blows.

Has a manager ever been sacked at the half time break?

A quick google brings up two examples - I thought there'd be loads.

Chichester City sacked Mark Poulton during the second half in 2010, but Fortuna Cologne sacked Toni Schumacher actually during the half time break.  This left assistant Ralf Minge in charge.

Is Minge still in charge ?

No, but there's a Twat managing us.
