I'm not surprised that we've kept the same shape but would have liked Bacuna to have been given a chance over Cleverley. Really not seeing the point of Cleverley.

Solid looking team for once. I'm pleased we've kept the three CBs and not picked Andi or CNZ.

Good team

I don't rate Weisman

Just need to replace cleverly with better in the future transfers .

Because we'd be completely overrun in midfield if we did that.

And yet he has scored or assisted in 5 of our 11 goals.

Weimann is awful.

Good move.

He certainly wasn't awful last week. Are you only saying that because it is decision made by Lambert, because I expect him to be good again when Lambert brings him today on or starts him in the future?

That's the best team we've put in a long long time. If we don't win with that line up I'd be very concerned about their guidance. There's even good options on the bench.

Just what was the point in recalling Robinson from his loan? Has he even played a minute since coming back and isn't even on the bench now. He would be far better getting game time at Preston.

That's very close to our strongest side we can put out. No more excuses about injuries, Keane or ownership issues. Let's see a good performance again, I really think we could sneak a win here.

Come on you Villa boys. I think Cleverley is a better footballer than Weimann so suits the system better. Weimann is a good finisher and should only be played as a striker.

Even more difficult to understand as he can't play in our FA cup games as he is cup-tied. He will miss out on our triumphant campaign and a winning medal!

Swansea have given us lots of room to pass in the non critical two thirds of the pitch. They have closed us down really well in the final third, and not having a creative influence isn't helping either.

Nice move by Cleverley there, should have done better

While trying to play it at the back, the fact that we aren't really used to doing it is starting to show. There is a lot of uncertainty back there and you get the impression that the defenders would love to just whack it long and get rid. As tough as this might be they are being told to stick with it, but in all likelihood the short term affect might cause us some problems.

HT. We look poor creating real chances, and uncertain at the back. I can see what we are trying to do and we have to stick with it. The growth process is painful at times and we don't really have the players for it. There is a real void behind Benteke which needs to have a midfielder or two that can attack that space.

How's cleverly played so far ?
Pretty anonymous to be honest.

The 5-3-2 isn't working so far. We can sacrifice Okore and then bring on another midfielder or attacker. Match their formation a little. It worked against Utd because they're 3 at the back as well.

The midfield is shit again.

It's not their fault, it's the formation. Can't understand this new-found fascination with playing five across the back. All it does it give the opposition a man over in midfield, so even if your packed defence looks a bit more solid, it has twice as much to do. If you're going to play so deep, you have to direct to Benteke and get players up to support him more quickly.

Agreed. Swansea, based on that first half are light years ahead of us. Saying that, we're hardly playing to our strengths. If Lambert wanted to sabotage our attack he could do no more than playing Gabby so deep. We really look lost out there.

Passing the ball out from the back is great, but the real issue is our lack of goals. Agbonlahor loses the ball every time he gets it.

It's not working today. A lot of individual errors which I don't think can be solely attributed to the weather, unfortunately. Not good from Okore, but he will have off days at this stage.

From Edvard on FB:

Lambert went to look at Bayern and saw that Neuer plays the ball to the left/right backs - somehow he didn't notice that theirs are normally on the halfway line and not at the cornerflag

Agreed. Swansea, based on that first half are light years ahead of us. Saying that, we're hardly playing to our strengths. If Lambert wanted to sabotage our attack he could do no more than playing Gabby so deep. We really look lost out there.

It reveals how devoid we are of quality in that area that we have employed a forward to do the role of an attacking midfielder. Gabby, love him, doesn't have the required intelligence in the final third. We've seen that a couple of times where his ability to run at the defence has been sorely let down by his final pass or losing the ball at the last minute having done good work prior to it.

Presumably Lambert has told Gabby to drop deeper and link up the play in order to compensate for the lightweight midfield. Which is moronic, because Gabby has the close control of a newborn calf. The lad is useless in a congested area - he needs space to lope into. Does Lambert still not know his players' strengths?

Yet we've had not troubled the keeper again and have scored 10 or is it 11 all season. The facts are we can't score and we've got another 7 defensive minded players on the pitch today and this Gabby thing is a joke, he has no vision or touch and he's expected to drop back and link up play. For fucks sake get him in an around Benteke or playing on the shoulder of defenders. Not as a ''number 10'' as piss poor Paul likes to call them.

strange one shots on target. Benteke and Gabby both missed by a foot, and West ham hit the post and neither team had a shot on goal. So shouldn't an aimless through ball into the keepers hand count as a shot on goal?

there's no composure, no drive, no footballing intelligence. The back three and Sanchez look like they'll lose the ball every time they have it. We can't afford to under-compete in games while they are getting us to the new formation / style of play - which they may not be good enough to play anyway, some of them at least.

You're missing the point. We're our own worst enemy by playing him so deep. I don't buy into the stupid cliché of his intelligence, when he ran forward with the ball Benteke managed to reduce his options to zero rather than stretching the defence, opening them up or making himself available for a pass.

Benteke must wonder what the hell he's doing there, he's another that we're failing to play to his strengths. It really doesn't have to be this bad.

The rules are clearly that Swansea players are allowed to push players in the back in their box, but we're not.

Shockingly true.

Must be a long time since we had a last minute goal, today would be appreciated.
We're the only team not to have scored beyond the 76th minute this season.

If Gabby didn't play for us, would we want to sign him?

Around a year ago we got a draw with very little possession and everyone went apoplectic. Today we're having loads of the ball, even passing it at times but look like we're getting sod all.

Benteke is a miserable bastard isn't he? Always ranting and raving when he doesn't get the ball. Movement, Christian, movement.

It just isn't going to happen today. We look much better trying to play the game properly but we are lacking real quality in the final third. Grealish has made a positive difference but it might be too little too late. We have been sloppy in their area when we needed to be clinical.

Boxing Day. Tchah. Next Christmas Day, Villa manager Jurgen Klopp should keep all of the players together at a training camp and feed them beansprouts and Evian only.

No cutting edge, couldn't cut a fucking fart. In January, instead of signing more fullbacks or midfield plodders can we try to address scoring goals you chump.

Anyone know what the least number of goals we have scored in a season, Lambert could be breaking another record this season

Benteke has now had three brilliant headers; vs Leicester, Man U and now Swansea that have brought out world class saves. Unbelievable

Most decent keepers would have been disappointed with concession.

So you are saying the saves from Schmeichal, De Gea and Fabianski from those headers were routine? I am going to politely wholeheartedly disagree if you are.
