Villa: Guzan, Hutton, Vlaar (c), Okore, Clark, Cissokho, Delph, Cleverley, Sanchez, Agbonlahor, Benteke
Subs: Given, Bacuna, Weimann, Herd, N'Zogbia, Lowton, Grealish.
-
I'm not surprised that we've kept the same shape but would have liked Bacuna to have been given a chance over Cleverley. Really not seeing the point of Cleverley.
-
Solid looking team for once. I'm pleased we've kept the three CBs and not picked Andi or CNZ.
-
Swansea City

33 Fernández
06 Williams
03 Taylor
08 Shelvey
04 Ki Sung-yueng
12 Dyer
23 Sigurdsson
20 Montero
10 Bony
Substitutes
11 Emnes

Cleverly for Weimann !? Really don't get that
-
Weimann is awful.
Good move.
ILWT
-
Good team
I don't rate Weisman
Just need to replace cleverly with better in the future transfers .
-
Weimann is awful.
He's our top goalscorer
-
Cleverly for Weimann !? Really don't get that
Because we'd be completely overrun in midfield if we did that.
-
Weimann is awful.
Good move.
ILWT
And yet he has scored or assisted in 5 of our 11 goals.
-
Cleverly for Weimann !? Really don't get that
Because playing 5-2-3 would be ridiculous.
-
Weimann is awful.
Good move.
ILWT
He certainly wasn't awful last week. Are you only saying that because it is decision made by Lambert, because I expect him to be good again when Lambert brings him today on or starts him in the future?
-
That's the best team we've put in a long long time. If we don't win with that line up I'd be very concerned about their guidance. There's even good options on the bench.
-
Just what was the point in recalling Robinson from his loan? Has he even played a minute since coming back and isn't even on the bench now. He would be far better getting game time at Preston.
-
If we don't win with that line up I'd be very concerned
Let's not get ahead of ourselves ! A draw would be decent here
-
That's very close to our strongest side we can put out. No more excuses about injuries, Keane or ownership issues. Let's see a good performance again, I really think we could sneak a win here.
-
Come on you Villa boys. I think Cleverley is a better footballer than Weimann so suits the system better. Weimann is a good finisher and should only be played as a striker.
-
Just what was the point in recalling Robinson from his loan? Has he even played a minute since coming back and isn't even on the bench now. He would be far better getting game time at Preston.
Even more difficult to understand as he can't play in our FA cup games as he is cup-tied. He will miss out on our triumphant campaign and a winning medal!
-
very decent Swansea side but ours is also looking much better.
Lets hope Swansea players have had more Christmas grog than ours.
-
Looks a decent line up, I think we will pick up a point which would be more than decent as Swansea are a tough proposition.
-
Short of a fit Joe Cole. (maybe including Westwood) This is probably our best team. 1-2 Hutton- Benteke ........
-
Any known internet radio commentaries for this one?

Just being there on the day will be good preparation for being in the starting line up when we retain it in 2016.
-
Good afternoon, gents.
Hopefully Benteke is up for this and we give him the necessary service.
-
the weather looks utterly dreadful
-
the weather looks utterly dreadful
If that's a first line of a song, I'd start again.
-
Gabby needs to be playing on the shoulder of the last man....he's playing deep picking the ball up and playing the worst passes ever.
-
the weather looks utterly dreadful
If that's a first line of a song, I'd start again.
It would be the perfect first line of one of those songs depicting misery in the post depression Deep South. Bloke sitting on a porch, dungarees and beat up banjo
-
Im sure that tackle was to put benteke out the game
-
Very close from Gabby
-
Good effort.
-
Not bad from Gabby. Keeper didn't have a chance if that was on target.
-
We are trying to play football against a side significantly more used to it and better at it. The shoots of hope are there for all to see though which is encouraging.
-
Very close from Gabby
I'm 20 secs behind you then!
-
Dare I say it, we look pretty decent.
-
Playing well at the moment.
-
Shit
-
Ah fuck
-
Bollocks.
-
Guzan poor! for that!
-
Guzan fucked up there.
-
Guzan took a gamble by taking a step and was fucked after that.
-
Come on, early days yet!
-
clumsy tackle, poor decision by Brad.
Come on Villa!
-
fuck nuts
-
Was still a good freekick though.
-
Useless. This could be a very long afternoon
-
We seem to have little idea , apart from don't dare go out of our own half
-
Time to put some money on a Villa win.
-
Montero...injured it seems. Could be a big blow for them and a boost for us.
-
Time to put some money on a Villa win.
Me too!
-
I don't like wishing injury on a player but I hope Montero is injured as he's ripping us a new one.
-
I don't like wishing injury on a player but I hope Montero is injured as he's ripping us a new one.
Ditto.
I'll be glad to see the back of him. Good player and he's giving Okore and Hutton a pillocking so far.
-
Sods law Routledge comes on. I get the feeling he'll be nailed on to score now.
-
Grow some balls you big baby and stop crying like your career has just ended....ridiculous.
-
We had a good spell, but I have to say I'm not a fan of this five at the back thing at all. It makes it far, far too easy for the opposition midfield and stops us pressing the ball properly.
-
I wish Gabby would push further forward and one of the midfielders would play closer to him and Benteke.
-
Classic Shelvey challenge there. Hopefully he'll get himself sent off today.
-
Looks like we're trying to build up our possession stats, repeatedly playing the ball back and around in our own half. We look almost comfortable until we cross the half way line.
-
Lumped some ££ on us to win at 14/1
Get the port back over here
-
have we parked the bus yet?
-
I wish Gabby would push further forward and one of the midfielders would play closer to him and Benteke.
I'm guessing it's Lambert's tactics. Maybe he sees Gabby as our Number 10.
-
We are getting tidier at passing the ball around, but still don't seem to have any idea about how to work the ball forward.
-
Blues losing 2-0. Slightly cheered me up. Come on Villa! Bit more adventure, please!
-
Swansea have given us lots of room to pass in the non critical two thirds of the pitch. They have closed us down really well in the final third, and not having a creative influence isn't helping either.
Nice move by Cleverley there, should have done better
-
Jesus Christ, pass forward for once....Benteke is in front of his man, making diagonal runs on numerous occasions and no one looks up.
-
At least we don't treat the ball like it's a hand grenade with the pin missing anymore.
Small steps.
-
I wish Gabby would push further forward and one of the midfielders would play closer to him and Benteke.
I'm guessing it's Lambert's tactics. Maybe he sees Gabby as our Number 10.
You could be right, yes. I hope that's not what Lambert is doing though. I'd prefer to see Grealish given a chance, even Andi
-
Gabby, Gabby...poor son
-
Chance now from a free kick
-
Passing from the back is OK if it was quicker, we're too slow and predictable
-
Sanchez is a good player, he impresses me more every time I see him. Perfect in front of the back line.
-
Shit just wide
-
Close
-
Oooooooh that was an inch away
-
Fuck! I though that was in...
-
Unlucky. Keeper was left for dead.
-
Carlos you need to think quicker bud
-
Sanchez was lucky there
-
I like this new style but we simply need to be more decisive with our passes in our third. A couple of times we've nearly been caught out.
-
Blues losing 2-0, Boggies losing 3-0. Every cloud.
-
I'd rather we were winning.
-
Blues losing 2-0, Boggies losing 3-0. Every cloud.
I'd rather us be winning.
-
Sanchez looks like he is going to be today's red card.
-
have we parked the bus yet?
Not sure we know where the Bus is!
-
Nobody on the end of Benteke's header.
Another poor free kick given away
-
Gabby runs around a lot, but I wish he'd use his sodding brain and get closer to Benteke.
-
How have they not scored? Luckily offside had it gone in
-
have we parked the bus yet?
Not sure we know where the Bus is!
On ramps in the Liberty Stadium car park.

-
Okore having a bit of an off day
-
Jores doesnt like this weather obviously.
-
We need another man in midfield. They're dominating us there and the defence has nobody to pass to half the time.
-
Just punt the bloody ball out! We're taking this playing out the back thing too far. Particularly on a rainy day with players who can't trap a bag of cement.
There's never a middle ground with Lambert.
-
I'm really hoping this is our shit half otherwise we really are in trouble.
-
While trying to play it at the back, the fact that we aren't really used to doing it is starting to show. There is a lot of uncertainty back there and you get the impression that the defenders would love to just whack it long and get rid. As tough as this might be they are being told to stick with it, but in all likelihood the short term affect might cause us some problems.
-
Okore nearly got Hutton booked there.
-
The only threat we have is Tekkers. Nothing from Agbonlahor or the midfield
-
I have no problem with us playing it out of defence, but I'd much rather we could play it out of midfield.
-
The midfield is shit again.
-
How's cleverly played so far ?
-
Poor first half. Cissokho and Gabby off for N'Zog and Bacuna
-
Why do the Sky commentators talk down everything Villa does and talk up the team they're playing it's the same every game especially when it's Francis.
-
Benteke cuts a frustrated figure.
Our midfield are blind to a run
-
HT. We look poor creating real chances, and uncertain at the back. I can see what we are trying to do and we have to stick with it. The growth process is painful at times and we don't really have the players for it. There is a real void behind Benteke which needs to have a midfielder or two that can attack that space.
-
How's cleverly played so far ?
Pretty anonymous to be honest.
The 5-3-2 isn't working so far. We can sacrifice Okore and then bring on another midfielder or attacker. Match their formation a little. It worked against Utd because they're 3 at the back as well.
-

Knife through the heart and offer up a prayer? Might get us into a little bit of trouble.
-
The midfield is shit again.
It's not their fault, it's the formation. Can't understand this new-found fascination with playing five across the back. All it does it give the opposition a man over in midfield, so even if your packed defence looks a bit more solid, it has twice as much to do. If you're going to play so deep, you have to direct to Benteke and get players up to support him more quickly.
-
0 shots on target

Agreed. Swansea, based on that first half are light years ahead of us. Saying that, we're hardly playing to our strengths. If Lambert wanted to sabotage our attack he could do no more than playing Gabby so deep. We really look lost out there.
-
0 shots on target
0 corners
Yet two of the three best efforts on goal were from Gabby and Benteke.
-
There was a point where Benteke headed the ball back into the penalty area and there was no Villa player in sight. Why?
-
Passing the ball out from the back is great, but the real issue is our lack of goals. Agbonlahor loses the ball every time he gets it.
-
It's not working today. A lot of individual errors which I don't think can be solely attributed to the weather, unfortunately. Not good from Okore, but he will have off days at this stage.
-
From Edvard on FB:
Lambert went to look at Bayern and saw that Neuer plays the ball to the left/right backs - somehow he didn't notice that theirs are normally on the halfway line and not at the cornerflag
-
Back three looks awful, Okore for Grealish.
-

It reveals how devoid we are of quality in that area that we have employed a forward to do the role of an attacking midfielder. Gabby, love him, doesn't have the required intelligence in the final third. We've seen that a couple of times where his ability to run at the defence has been sorely let down by his final pass or losing the ball at the last minute having done good work prior to it.
-
Try Grealish in the role.
-
Presumably Lambert has told Gabby to drop deeper and link up the play in order to compensate for the lightweight midfield. Which is moronic, because Gabby has the close control of a newborn calf. The lad is useless in a congested area - he needs space to lope into. Does Lambert still not know his players' strengths?
-
No excuse for a poor performance today. This is about as strong a team as we can put out.
-
Villa 16/1 the win, 9/2 the draw.
-
0 shots on target
0 corners
Yet two of the three best efforts on goal were from Gabby and Benteke.
Yet we've had not troubled the keeper again and have scored 10 or is it 11 all season. The facts are we can't score and we've got another 7 defensive minded players on the pitch today and this Gabby thing is a joke, he has no vision or touch and he's expected to drop back and link up play. For fucks sake get him in an around Benteke or playing on the shoulder of defenders. Not as a ''number 10'' as piss poor Paul likes to call them.
-
Try Grealish in the role.
Worth a try, surely.
-
We don't score many goals do we
-
0 shots on target
0 corners
Yet two of the three best efforts on goal were from Gabby and Benteke.
strange one shots on target. Benteke and Gabby both missed by a foot, and West ham hit the post and neither team had a shot on goal. So shouldn't an aimless through ball into the keepers hand count as a shot on goal?
-
It's snowing! Probably not the right thread to mention it but can't be arsed to leave the thread.
-
Try Grealish in the role.
Yes maybe. You almost need Gabby peeling away to the left to receive the pass not the bloke trying to deliver it. Grealish in these conditions and his ability glide past players might be a really good shout.
-
there's no composure, no drive, no footballing intelligence. The back three and Sanchez look like they'll lose the ball every time they have it. We can't afford to under-compete in games while they are getting us to the new formation / style of play - which they may not be good enough to play anyway, some of them at least.
-
missed the first half
chrome wouldnt open
so hows it been ?
-

Oh arseholes.

You're missing the point. We're our own worst enemy by playing him so deep. I don't buy into the stupid cliché of his intelligence, when he ran forward with the ball Benteke managed to reduce his options to zero rather than stretching the defence, opening them up or making himself available for a pass.
Benteke must wonder what the hell he's doing there, he's another that we're failing to play to his strengths. It really doesn't have to be this bad.
-
missed the first half
chrome wouldnt open
so hows it been ?
Utterly uninspiring.
-
Cissokho off, Weimann on
-
Andi on for Sisko.
-
Remarkable.
-
Can't argue with the substitution.
-
433, which the players know better.

I'm not missing any point at all. I'm just not as angry as you. Read what I have said again and try and explain what point it is that I have actually missed?
-
Doesn't sound like the best of half's. Do something in the second please Villa.
-
Martinez is slowly proving to be not much cop without that racist, gobshite, trainer peddler as chairman.
-
somehow NBC Sports are not showing this game even though they say they provide all live PL games.

Ron Vlaar is keeping Bony quiet. Nobody else is up to standard.

Maybe because it shows no signs of life?
-
somehow NBC Sports are not showing this game even though they say they provide all live PL games.
They are I am watching it on it.Its on NBC extra time.
-
That was fucking shit Cleverley
-
I'm not missing any point at all. I'm just not as angry as you.
I'm beyond angry as nothing surprises me anymore. I'm just resigned to it all. Saying that, we've started better this half. Too early to have hope?
-
That was woeful.
-
jesus christ Cleverley.
-
I really don't see the point in Cleverley. He's all fart and no shit.
-
Delph seems the only one ready to really drive at them.
-
That was fucking shit Cleverley
It wasnt that good TV!
-
Better movement and play. Benteke might have done a bit better there
-
That was fucking shit Cleverley
It wasnt that good TV!
It's Christmas Ron. I was trying to be nice

Delph seems the only one ready to really drive at them.
He certainly seems to have turned up this half.

It's really belting down with snow now in Brum.
-
jesus christ Cleverley.
He could do with walking on water on that pitch.
-
It's really belting down with snow now in Brum.
Nice and sunny here. No snow in sight!!
-
Heskey scores on his Bolton debut, seconds after coming on.
-
West Brom enjoying the festive season, getting into the spirit of giving more than we are.
-
Heskey's scored for Bolton! The barn door was in the wrong place.
-
It's really belting down with snow now in Brum.
Pissing down with rain where I am,i have the boat ready.
-
Good run by Weimann, but he should have passed. Much better by us
-
Much better now come on Villa!
-
Villa fans in great voice. As always
-
Shock news: we look miles better this half. I never want to see that fucking 5-3-2 formation again.
-
poor cross
-
Fuckkkkkkkk!!!! Come on Andi you have to do a lot better
-
I had no idea we were even capable of passing the ball around like this.
-
I'd consider bringing on Grealish or Nzogbia for Gabby very soon.
-
Bad miss by Ki
-
sitter seansea miss
-
that was piss poor
-
Fucking shit Weinmen
-
Anybody still want to buy Ki?
-
Swansea are there for taking come on!
-
good finish off sdide
-
I had no idea we were even capable of passing the ball around like this.
We have seen it Dave and then for some unknown reason Lambert always went back to the nonsense of smacking it long and defending deep. We are out passing Swansea which is no mean feat. We just don't have the final touch.
-
We very much deserve an equalizer at the very least in this game.
-
We very much deserve an equalizer at the very least in this game.
We do indeed.
-
Grealish for Cleverley should be the next sub for us
-
close
-
Fuck me. gabby really should have scored there
-
theres a push
-
Ok it was harder than it looked. Lovely ball by Benteke
-
Ok it was harder than it looked. Lovely ball by Benteke
He's also shoved in the back.
-
Come on! Heave!
-
That is a nailed on penalty.
-
That at first sight was a penalty.
-
Ok it was harder than it looked. Lovely ball by Benteke
He's also shoved in the back.
Yep, he was
-
Stonewall pen and red card.
-
Never thought i would hear them words Heskey has scored again !
-
Linesman shit himself.
-
Good for Emile. Happy for him. Not good enough for us but never said a bad word about us.
-
Fucking hell gotta make this pressure count.
-
He scored in the first game he played for us remember
-
Never thought i would hear them words Heskey has scored again !
Hoping not an omen for Altidore to score v us.
-
How's the time for a Lambert tactical masterstroke.
-
Fucking one eyed ref we have here.
-
Never thought i would hear them words Heskey has scored again !
The BBC seems to think that it's still 2-1.
-
cleverley lets hope he doesnt sign him
-
Grealish for Cleverley should be the next sub for us
Good Call TV!
-
Good looking lad that Grealish
-
Blues now losing 3-0.
But Id rather that we were winning (not making that mistake again)

Ha ha
-
I wish bloody agbonlahor was pissing suspended...he's garbage
-
Doesn't sound like we're doing a great deal.
-
Absolutely shite forward play. Fucking atrocious.
-
come on villa
-
Come on lads. A nice brace from the Beast.
-
cleverley lets hope he doesnt sign him
Really no idea what or why he is with us
-
Dial 352 433 4231 for Panicky Manager.
-
whats the plan stan
-
use your head son
-
Must be a long time since we had a last minute goal, today would be appreciated.
-
Are we one of the most obvious teams in the league...I think so.
-
Have we gone route 1 yet
-
The rules are clearly that Swansea players are allowed to push players in the back in their box, but we're not.
-
Good, you deserve to be suspended, you've been gash
-

Your wish is granted Tuscans!
-

Shockingly true.
-
Must be a long time since we had a last minute goal, today would be appreciated.
We're the only team not to have scored beyond the 76th minute this season.
-
If Gabby didn't play for us, would we want to sign him?
-
Around a year ago we got a draw with very little possession and everyone went apoplectic. Today we're having loads of the ball, even passing it at times but look like we're getting sod all.
-
Blues losing 4-0 now but I dearly wish we were winning.
-
cleverley lets hope he doesnt sign him
Really no idea what or why he is with us
I always think the same about Gabby.
Can't argue with those comments.
-
Benteke is a miserable bastard isn't he? Always ranting and raving when he doesn't get the ball. Movement, Christian, movement.
-
It just isn't going to happen today. We look much better trying to play the game properly but we are lacking real quality in the final third. Grealish has made a positive difference but it might be too little too late. We have been sloppy in their area when we needed to be clinical.
-
Spurs jammy, us shit and unlucky as per.
-
good effort from CB
-
Fabianski you fucker
-
Fuck me, how have we not score there?
-
Boxing Day. Tchah. Next Christmas Day, Villa manager Jurgen Klopp should keep all of the players together at a training camp and feed them beansprouts and Evian only.
-
No cutting edge, couldn't cut a fucking fart. In January, instead of signing more fullbacks or midfield plodders can we try to address scoring goals you chump.
-
Fabianski saves from Gabby
-
Feel sorry for the Villa fans who have devoted their Boxing Day to watch this crap.
-
Hutton just wide
-
chance there and dive from CB
-
Anyone know what the least number of goals we have scored in a season, Lambert could be breaking another record this season
-
Benteke has now had three brilliant headers; vs Leicester, Man U and now Swansea that have brought out world class saves. Unbelievable
-
game over
-
Benteke has now had three brilliant headers; vs Leicester, Man U and now Swansea that have brought out world class saves. Unbelievable
Most decent keepers would have been disappointed with concession.
-
Fucking ref blows for full time when we have a free kick. You complete wanker
