0 shots on target
0 corners
Yet two of the three best efforts on goal were from Gabby and Benteke.

Yet we've had not troubled the keeper again and have scored 10 or is it 11 all season. The facts are we can't score and we've got another 7 defensive minded players on the pitch today and this Gabby thing is a joke, he has no vision or touch and he's expected to drop back and link up play. For fucks sake get him in an around Benteke or playing on the shoulder of defenders. Not as a ''number 10'' as piss poor Paul likes to call them.

Try Grealish in the role.

Worth a try, surely.

strange one shots on target. Benteke and Gabby both missed by a foot, and West ham hit the post and neither team had a shot on goal. So shouldn't an aimless through ball into the keepers hand count as a shot on goal?

Yes maybe. You almost need Gabby peeling away to the left to receive the pass not the bloke trying to deliver it. Grealish in these conditions and his ability glide past players might be a really good shout.

there's no composure, no drive, no footballing intelligence. The back three and Sanchez look like they'll lose the ball every time they have it. We can't afford to under-compete in games while they are getting us to the new formation / style of play - which they may not be good enough to play anyway, some of them at least.

While trying to play it at the back, the fact that we aren't really used to doing it is starting to show. There is a lot of uncertainty back there and you get the impression that the defenders would love to just whack it long and get rid. As tough as this might be they are being told to stick with it, but in all likelihood the short term affect might cause us some problems.

Agreed. Swansea, based on that first half are light years ahead of us. Saying that, we're hardly playing to our strengths. If Lambert wanted to sabotage our attack he could do no more than playing Gabby so deep. We really look lost out there.

It reveals how devoid we are of quality in that area that we have employed a forward to do the role of an attacking midfielder. Gabby, love him, doesn't have the required intelligence in the final third. We've seen that a couple of times where his ability to run at the defence has been sorely let down by his final pass or losing the ball at the last minute having done good work prior to it.

You're missing the point. We're our own worst enemy by playing him so deep. I don't buy into the stupid cliché of his intelligence, when he ran forward with the ball Benteke managed to reduce his options to zero rather than stretching the defence, opening them up or making himself available for a pass.

Benteke must wonder what the hell he's doing there, he's another that we're failing to play to his strengths. It really doesn't have to be this bad.
