BTTS score as neither can defend.

We are rubbish they are worse.Worried Bellamy is going to torment our 1 paced defence and Betrand looking likely to miss out means Bennent who has been injured all season or Luna coming in , neither of which fill me with confidence.

For me Bacuna back to RB ..3 man MF of KEA / Westwood and Delph.Albrighton and Gabby wide supporting Benteke.

Cardiff  V us
WBA V Chelsea
Fulham v Liverpool

We win and other 2 lose and we would have WBA (7) Cardiff (9) Fulham (10) gaps ,would certainly make me feel a little easier about staying in league.

Cardiff are utter shite and we should be beating them particularly away from home pretty handy.

Score first and we will win. If they score first, we will crumble and lose I reckon.

Albrighton will start and deservedly so.

--------------Guzan
Bacuna, Clark, Baker, Bertrand
Albrighton, Westwood, Delph, Gabby
Benteke, Weimann

I was pretty surprised with Cardiff in their derby game. Not only did they look poor, but I thought they would at least put some time into Swansea and make it a bit more blood and thunder.

They just turned up and pottered around for 90 minutes.

A very good chance of three points for us here. I think we should be going with 4-3-3. Albrighton to come in for Weimann, Bacuna to drop into full back and KEA to return into a three man midfield.

I'd be very tempted to give Helenuis a run at some point tomorrow, Cardiff looked very iffy in the air against Swansea.

I'm going 1-3. Benteke (2) and Gabby. Whitingham for them.

It's a big game for us as we desperately need a win for confidence levels almost as much as the points but a massive game for Cardiff who could soon be reaching the point of no return. An early Villa goal will probably see them collapse.

2-0 Villa
Title: Re: Cardiff City v Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread

We'll win this one. Cardiff are doomed. 1-3 Villa.

Palace and sunderland were reportedly doomed at Xmas , west ham were a fortnight ago , now its Cardiffs turn but a look at the table suggests its so tight that anyone can go down and anyone can survive .

They will come at us from the start and I expect a very tough game , I would take a point happily but fear a Cardiff win 2-0.

I just don't know anymore.  Would take a point, would love a good performance.

Truth be told I'd rather we wasn't playing again so soon after that shambles on Saturday let alone for it to be on TV.  Wet cold Tuesday night in Wales against a crap team in poor form desperate for a kick start - and we really do like to oblige when teams / players are having a tough time.

It's really not one to look forward to is it?

Guzan

I think this game requires a bit of nous. Cardiff will target this as the game they need to win to kickstart OGS's reign. I don't think Lambert has a tactical bone anywhere in his body. We expend so much energy too that a two day rest might see us a bit jaded.

2-1 Cardiff.

If we don't get a result I really fear for us.

Even a draw would just give us something to build on. We don't draw enough tight games with Lambert. A point away to Stoke and at home to Palace and we'd be looking a bit more comfortable now.

Lowton was piss poor v West Ham.

This is the team I would play. We need to attack them and go for the win, our away form is what could keep us up.

I fear Lambert being very defensive though with the mindset that he can't afford another defeat after Saturday, so could see this being a 0-0 devoid of any quality, bit like some of our aways earlier in the season (WHam, Hull).

I would love to see Gabby and Albrighton from any re-starts at the back, pushed as wide and as high onto Fabio and John as they can possibly be. Both are woeful full backs and we can really wrestle the midfield, in my opinion at least, by forcing Cardiff to have their widemen drop into help them out.

Man United did the exact same thing to us, with Rooney dropping deep into the space their position had created between defence and midfield. Wiemann will more than likely start and I would have him busying himself centrally in that space.

They're a piss poor side, ripe for the plucking, as long as we're brave enough and critically, smart enough, about the way we go about our business.

I have to be up for work at half 6 on Wednesday and its probably about three hours from Cardiff to my house in the north west, so no, I wouldn't take a loss. Mind you, they could play in my back garden and I would never hope for a loss, I am not sure why a Villa fan or a fan of any club for that matter, would ever want their side to lose.

The closest I've ever come to that situation was under McLeish, because he was never ever going to get better and you knew it would take something for the scales to fall from our oblivious owner's eyes. But as soon as you see those teams come out of the tunnel all of that type of thinking vanishes without a trace, and you'll take absolutely anything which ends up with Aston Villa three points better off in the table than they were at the start of the day. You can be as high-minded and theoretical as you like, but you want Villa to win every game they play or you're not really a Villa fan.

Supertom, that's how Blues and Baggies think, and it's small time. We're bigger than that.

Think back to the end of last season, when the Stripeys lost to every bottom of the league club they played then turned in to Barcelona on the last day. There will always be a suspicion about that - would you want us dragged down to that level?

Hopefully the 4 points we took off them from losing positions this season will be an adequate contribution on our part to Albion's impressive effort to get relegated this season. If they end this season like they did last they've had it. (Crosses fingers.)

The FA's statement read: "Cardiff City’s Craig Bellamy has been charged by The FA for violent conduct following an incident which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

"The incident occurred during Cardiff’s game against Swansea City on Saturday 8 February 2014. Bellamy has until 6pm on Tuesday 11 February 2014 to respond to the charge."

Does this mean if he pleads innocent he can play tomorrow ?

Correct Eastie. If Cardiff contest the charge he will play tomorrow. They have an FA cup game and Hull in the three he would miss so I guess it depends on whether they think he can help deliver 6 key league points

Would you take that if it meant getting rid of the incompetent idiot?! You dread to think who the equally incompetent Faulkner might appoint instead. Is Tony Mowbray doing anything these days?

Anyone who thinks that can fuck off and support somebody else.

I think a lot of people are tempted to do the first Dave but not the second

Anyone who wants us to lose can do whatever they like.
What if us losing meant West Brom or Birmingham getting relegated?

I wouldn't want to lose before the game started. If we lost and they went down, well it would be their fault for being so shit during the previous 38 games.
Just to clarify, I wouldn't want us to lose a game either.
It is a shame however one of the few bright spots this season is actually laughing at Man Utd as opposed to what we're actually doing on the pitch.

With Vlaar and Bertrand doubtful, the spectre of our back four from Hell is looming larger. Cardiff are a poor side but I can see Lowton, Clark, Baker and Bennett making them look like the Brazil of The Valleys.

Knowing Villa, they will make Kenwyne, Bellamy and Ole look great, when every other team would just grind their noses in to the dust.

Maybe Lambo will go 532 as the back 4 we all dread would not be up to it. But that would mean starting with Marc on the bench...

Guzan-Bacuna, Lowton, Clark, Baker, Bennett-KEA, Delph, Westwood-Gabby, Benteke. Eek!

And that is an understatement. He was electrifying on Saturday, whilst his team mates were stultifying.

I'd play Albrighton right and Bennett left mid (I think he looks good going forward). Westwood and Delph in the middle with Gabby and Benteke up top.
Bacuna right back. Vlaar, despite crippled would easily start ahead of Baker who is an accident waiting to happen. And it often does.

He was the best player on the pitch. However, he was helped by possibly the worst left-back in the world. He made Luna look like Ashley Cole in his prime.

If Bertrand and Vlaar are fit

Guzan
Bacuna Vlaar Clark Bertrand
Westwood Delph
Albrighton Weimman Gabby
Benteke

Get Weimann central with Albrighton wide.

Lowton was piss poor v West Ham.

I like this, pretty sure Weimann played there at Liverpool didn't he?

If OGS aka the pernicious pixie throws caution to the wind we will fuck them up big time. If he he follows Steve Bruce's plan and sets up like an away team playing at home, they will win a ghastly battle of attrition and we shall sink further into the slough of despond.

Also, if Vlaar and Bertrand are both out, and either of our full backs are skinned in the opening 8 minutes and 33 seconds then by all means make massive bets against us to ameliorate the forthcoming pain.

Cardiff 2 Villa 6

Vlaar and Bertrand looking doubtful, Baker & Clark pairing means they'll score at least 1.

It never takes long for our new players to get crocked, does it?

If they're any good no.

We will sign a good four top quality players in the summer. Have a cracking first six weeks, then they'll all get injured and we will be back to playing Tonev and Herd.

I have always maintained that, if we signed the best eleven players in the world, we would be fielding the reserves within a few weeks. 'Twas ever thus.

Reading a couple of Cardiff forums and the majority expect us to win including a few that think we'll really stuff them. They know they're poor and not good enough for the PL so are just trying to enjoy it while it lasts.

Looks like they may try to play us on the counter attack using the pace of Zaha, Noone and Campbell. I'm picturing both teams giving the ball to back each other in the hope that one team will commit players forward so the other can counter attack.

Saying that, I can't see anything other than a Villa win. It won't paper over the cracks of this season but it will go a long way in keeping us up.

A lot of this comes down to how Solskajieireiierayyer plays it.  If they play like an away team and try and get us on the break then we'll have real trouble breaking them down, because thats what we do.

That said, apparently the atmosphere down there has been getting pretty hostile and toxic when they don't go out and attack from the first whistle, which should play into our hands.

Feeling optimistic almost purely because we've done well in midweek games & away from home, though. As much as I can't stand the chuckle brothers at the back, I'm really hoping he doesn't rush Ron into the team & risk a re-injury against a team with little threat up front.

Dreading this one. Because of what it would mean if we lose. I dont think I can take yet another relegation battle.

Weather update. Just had a hail storm followed by heavy rain here in Cardiff. The clouds now look to be breaking up s bit. Not a breath of wind at the moment.

I can't wait. Really looking forward to the game. We're lucky to have a game so soon after the shambles of the weekend.

Time for the lads to put things right.

I dont want to be all melodramatic but I sure could use something to look forward to about Villa right now. I know the "big club" stuff is a bit of a cliche but dammit we are the only club who has always been in the premier league who have had these relegation battles the past few years. We dont lord it but god dammit we ARE a big club. I resent looking at the bottom of the league thinking "yup those are our peers".

Petulant of me I know but there you are.  :(

i never thought i'd long for those days of mid-table obscurity and winding down the season in march!

We've been in one all season. Can't believe some fans are only now realising it. This is where we're at now - perennial relegation battlers thanks to Lerner's cost cutting and Lambert's incompetence.
Huge game for us - absolutely huge. Losing is unthinkable.

I genuinely thought we would have that this season. Naive of me.

However,  so was Carroll on saturday and we still lost.

I was one of them. We cannot play with relegation every season. It will get us.
