It's the crazy 4-2-4 again. Not conducive for retention of possession.

Fear we will be outfought in midfield - not an inspiring line up - would rather have seen Gardner given a chance .

What ! No Bowery ! ;-) Actually, I think a front four of Albrighton, Gabby, Weimann and Kozak look ok. Worried about Baker and Luna as usual, but this should be a game that will allow Luna to get forward more, will be interesting to see. Albrighton and Kozak to score...

Would prefer more bite in midfield, CP are nothing if not scrappers. Maybe more so under Pulis.

Thrilled to see Gardner on the bench, sooner he's playing the better.

Weimann shouldn't be playing. Decent selection apart from that. Need Vlaar and Okore back. Badly. Roll on Jan. Reinforcements needed.

What I've come to realise in the past few weeks that our performance has more to do with our attitude and application than it has to do with who plays. I only know a few of Hull players playing Man U. Many won't have had PL experience before this season, yet they have fought for everything. That's what I want from Villa. I accept that the best may never again be signed by the club. Times have changed. That's fine. But when you put on our colours give it everything for 90 minutes. Losing isn't to be ashamed of, but a stepping stone to learning how to compete and win in the future.

I want to know at the end of each game our players tried their very best to be better players than they were the previous time out. By doing that, they'll always win more than they lose.

Greetings from up an Alp in a very snowy LaPlagne.

I'd have liked to see Herd in midfield today.

What's the chances that Messi will have a blinder ?

I see that Herd's not even on the bench. That leaves us a bit short of defensive cover

It wouldn't surprise me if any of the players look at the selected team, the formation and the way they will be asked to play and think why the fuck should I bother?

It's like On'Neill is haunting us from beyond. We may well scrape a point or three today but all it will be is another step towards the day that Lambert moves aside and someone else has a go.

I look at the team and think about 5 or 6 at most are mid table team players - Brad, Delphy, Big K, Gabby maybe Clark at a huge stretch. The rest are probably not good enough for a team in the bottom 3. Is there a defender of those selected who can actually defend?

Attempt off the line finally. Close. No cigar.

Watching this even I am starting to question if a change might do us good.

No urgency, no heart, spirit, not pinning them back and going at them. No tempo, no passing and movement. Such a sterile side. We need 3 players in Jan and that is before the need for a centre half rears its head.

Gardner on please. Cant be any worse.

Awful to watch. There is no speed at all. Delph runs into the Palace players. Baker and Lowton defending poor, Luna bad going forward, where is Weimann ?, etc. etc.

Will he bring on Bowery ?! This must be a chance for Helenius to come on for Weimann to be behind Kozak. Gabby on the left.

I would get Weimann off for Helenius, Weimann has been totally anonymous again. Truly awful.

The really amazing thing is if we could nick this, we would be 9 points outside of the relegation places tonight. Which with the way we are playing would be a miracle. I fear it is more likely to go the other way and be 4 though.

We miss NZogbia massively. People forget how much of a catalyst he was for us changing our form last season. West Brom away, West Ham and Fulham home, he was excellent. We need that player who can just find a pass, put their foot on it, beat a man in dangerous areas etc.

Said yesterday, Maloney on the cheap would be worth getting for this team.

Beyond abysmal, patience at breaking point

Me too. How much support can you give a bloke before you have to accept that this might not be working? I truly believe in the project, and I fully accept the transition. But this simply has not been good enough against sides who we should as a club be beating. Or at the very least scoring goals against. Last year I felt there was no team we couldn't score against. This year it's the opposite and furthermore it is dismantling much of the good work we ended last season as well as the obvious defensive improvements from this season.

Palace close again. Fucking awful Villa.

What platitudes will Lambert come out with tonight, the usual can't fault them for effort shit.

Trouble is the effort is not effective 65% possession but less shots than Palace tells the story possession as ever mostly in our half of the field.

Lamberts bought strikers and Benteke apart, they couldn't strike a match successfully.

Mid table is looking optimistic.

This is shit.

We are a very, very poor side.

I suppose it's better than the 0-4 from last year though, right?

Lambert can totally fuck off! 6 home matches out of 9 without a goal!!!! On what planet is this anywhere near acceptable? Shocking, totally shocking!
Swansea will take the piss next. Great. Just great.
Can always count on the villa to ruin a lovely Xmas

If losing's what it takes to shake up this utterly shitty nosedive the club's been on for the last 3 years, sadly I'll take it.

Will it though?

That is a lie my friend. We are not sleep walking into it. We have been on a journey towards relegation for the past three or four seasons.
