Albrighton and Lowton start.
-
Guzan, Lowton, Clark, Baker, Luna, Westwood, El Ahmadi, Sylla, Albrighton, Agbonlahor, Benteke
-
Guzan, Lowton, Clark, Baker, Luna, Westwood, El Ahmadi, Sylla, Albrighton, Agbonlahor, Benteke.
-
In all honesty, it is about as spot on the starting 11 with the available players I would have gone for. Marc deserves a shot, Weiman and Bacuna deserved to be dropped.
Now lets get at them. At least with Albrighton you know there is going to be a will to supply.
-
Subs: Steer, Bacuna, Weimann, Bowery, Gardner, Tonev, Kozak

Good to see Gardner on the bench. And Kozak.

-
Happy with this line up than with any selection for a long time - come on villa!
-
I guess that's the best we can put out. At least Lambo can see maybe being too late that Weimann needed to be dropped and Bacuna for his showing against Fulham.
Now its up to them...I pray for just a point againts the worst United team in over a decade.
-

This. Good line up. Lowton needs to come back in. Alby can provide some width and hopefully deliver some good service to Benteke and Gabby coming in from the left. The only thing I'd have had different was Bowery on the bench. I don't see what he'll offer, unless he's there as an emergeancy cover at centerback. Donacian would have been a better option, even despite his age. I'm assuming Herd is still injured.
-
Thats a good line up, I really hope a bit of form clicks today and lets hope Marc can recapture that his form and stay injury free.
-
Happy Albrighton is starting instead of Weimann.
-
Nervous as all hell, I'll be watching on TV today so good luck to all those at Villa Park. Roar the Lions home!
-
MUFC: De Gea, Rafael, Evans, Jones, Evra, Valencia, Cleverley, Giggs, Januzaj, Rooney, Welbeck
-
I think Benteke will be happy to see Albrighton in the team. Maybe Lowton too.
-
Nervous as all hell, I'll be watching on TV today so good luck to all those at Villa Park. Roar the Lions home!
Not nervous - i don't expect anything here so whatever we get will be a pleasant bonus , happy with this line up though.
-
Knowing us we will get battered, but that really is a fucking shit Manure line-up.
-
Is Vidic injured?
-
MUFC: De Gea, Rafael, Evans, Jones, Evra, Valencia, Cleverley, Giggs, Januzaj, Rooney, Welbeck
WOW! In all honesty that would of been a League Cup team Fergie would of put out.
-
Im starting to fear Vlaars injury could turn out to be a long one again as last year - nothing to lose here so lets have a go at these tossers.
-
Unless he is injured, Herd is a bit unlucky to be potted straight back out the squad I reckon.
-
Cleverely and Giggs in midfield, yikes that is poor. They will still probably give our duo the runaround though
-

Not wrong there....
-
Manure subs: Ferdinand, Lindegaard, Young, Fabio, Fletcher, Büttner, Zaha
-
Off to watch Aah-Stone-Vee-lah again..vs Menchesteer in a min down the Pegasus/flying Horse bar. Moyes is a worried chap today! He needs to be!
-
Unless he is injured, Herd is a bit unlucky to be potted straight back out the squad I reckon.
I'm assuming it's an injury. I dunno why Lambo would intentionally leave us short of defensive cover on the bench, and still keep Bowery on the bench. Herdy played well in the last game so would warrant a place at least on the bench.
-
Villa win. My tortoise says so.
-
Manure subs: Ferdinand, Lindegaard, Young, Fabio, Fletcher, Büttner, Zaha
That's quite a poor bench too. I don't know how Fabio gets anywhere near a Premiership starting 11, let alone Utd's. Same goes for Buttner.
-
Re Vlaar - if is a long one this winter we simply have to get an experienced centre half in. Lescott on loan running up to the world cup would be the best bet then re-visit in the summer.
-
One league win in 35 against this lot. The fact i'm not there and that starting 11 is so shit surely today is the time to beat this lot again.
-
Cleverely and Giggs in midfield, yikes that is poor. They will still probably give our duo the runaround though
As we're playing 3 in the middle, I'm hoping we'll overrun them. Syllas energy will be key. He needs to have a good game today. KEA can't go missing either.
-
Nervous as all hell, I'll be watching on TV today so good luck to all those at Villa Park. Roar the Lions home!
Not nervous - i don't expect anything here so whatever we get will be a pleasant bonus , happy with this line up though.
Fair point. We haven't beaten them at VP in the league since '95, we conceded 3 at home to them last season, we're missing our best defender(s) and our world class striker is suffering a severe dip in form and goals. Still, there's enough hope to make me think we can actually get something out of this today, either that or I've lost it completely.
-
Re Vlaar - if is a long one this winter we simply have to get an experienced centre half in. Lescott on loan running up to the world cup would be the best bet then re-visit in the summer.
I'd be happy with a CB with experience like Lescott whether Vlaar is out or not plus a quality creative midfielder. Throw in an Ashley Young to add some extra ammo and all of a sudden we're a very different proposition.
Good line up though. We're going to have a go and that's a start.
-
They could put a fucking donkey in the centre of the park and beat us. Don't get yer hopes up, it is united at VP! They like it here more than at Old Trafford!
-
I am sure the last time I was happy with a line up was some time last season and we got battered too, so I am not sure being happy with the line up is a good sign!
-
Well I'm glad we're not playing a back 5 and look like we're going for it. Benteke needs to step up today, Delph and Vlaar are massive losses.
-
Manure subs: Ferdinand, Lindegaard, Young, Fabio, Fletcher, Büttner, Zaha
That's quite a poor bench too. I don't know how Fabio gets anywhere near a Premiership starting 11, let alone Utd's. Same goes for Buttner.
Remember Fabio playing for QPR against us last season, he probably cost them the game. He strutted round the pitch but was ridiculously shite. Somehow he started in a champions league final perhaps in a case of mistaken identity. Seems strange to drop Young for this game.
-
No Jamie, Westwood never came on against the Baggies and changed the game!!!
-
Anyone know if we are on the wireless?
-
Anyone know if we are on the wireless?
I think we were in the 30's! :o)
-
Just had an illogical random wave of optimism about this. But, Albrighton & Lowton are not PL match fit and must keep Januzaj & Giggs quiet over on that side.

Giggs will be in the centre won't he?
-
Seems we are the WM game. I can't wait to listen their commentary.

I challenge you to make the end without having the urge to punch Franks in the head.
-
No Jamie, Westwood never came on against the Baggies and changed the game!!!
They were there for Monday Night Football too.
-

I challenge you to make the end without having the urge to punch Franks in the head.
If I had the choice i'd rather listen to MUFC radio than WM!
-
afternoon
happy with the team
not sure why Bowery is on the bench especially with kozak there .
Lets hope Albrighton plays like he did a few seasons ago against them
COME ON VILLA
-
Lowton, Clark, Baker , Luna....its like the Maginot Line. You can walk around it at will and it will surrender at first sign of trouble...
-
That's pretty much the right team, I think we'll all agree. However, I forgot they had Januzaj, so, you know, ah bollocks.
Pleased to see Albrighton given the chance, hope he takes it - but if he doesn't I don't want to see him re-dropped for Weimann next game (unless he has a complete catastrophe). Weimann's had a good long run in the side and Marc deserves one too, and a first start in ages against Man Utd is a tough ask.
-
What must Helenius do to get on the bench?
Anyway, not really expecting to win this but looking at the line ups I can't really see anything to really worry us. Easily the worst Man Utd side I've seen in years.
-
We all expected Man. City to smash us....in terms of possession they did....and lost.
I'll take that against these thanks.
-
no Hernadez cool -
-
Just had an illogical random wave of optimism about this. But, Albrighton & Lowton are not PL match fit and must keep Januzaj & Giggs quiet over on that side.
Giggs will be in the centre won't he?
Yes, left of centre and interplaying with the kid.
-
Lowton, Clark, Baker , Luna....its like the Maginot Line. You can walk around it at will and it will surrender at first sign of trouble...
Better than last weekend's back 4 at least.
-
COME ON VILLAAAAAAAA
-
No look forward to this, but come on Villa.
-
I'd be content with a draw!
-
It is a poor looking united side. I assume we must be 433. Reasonably happy given our choices
Imagine Gardner coming on and scoring the winner. . .
I think they'll come out fighting (united) however, and our defence doesn't look robust does it? Midfield needs to get close to Rooney as his movement can cause all of our back four all sorts of problems with his movement
-
Our midfield looks like what i'd expect a Wigan one to look like. No quality in there at all. Hopefully catch them on the break today, I can see a few goals.
-
Ah fuck I just remembered we don't have Delph.
-
Well, Sylla has been a player who has seemingly got better the more he is out the team, so here's his chance.
-
That was a clever ball Sylla, unlucky.
-
Shot on target
-
Good start, nice ball retention.
-
This gonna end bad
-
Started decently.
-
This gonna end bad
You are so optimistic!
-
Great effort Albrighton! Good lad.
-
good effort
-
Good start, good effort Albrighton.
-
Very decent play from Marc. Looks a bit confident, which is hopeful.
-
Starting well.
-
Two shots, we've already had two shots.
-
come on Villa you have to beat the teams that are around you ;)
-
Shot on target.
-
good start
-
Good feisty start, Villa, come on!
-
A midfielder with ability may have stepped inside the defender where KEA got that ball then and created an angle for the shot. A genuinely talented footballer with an eye for goal in the midfield would be lovely.
-
albrighton started well
-
Sloppy Lowton.
-
Well covered Westwood
-
Cornalty!
-
This system is much better for us.
-
Marco's looking up for this.
-
albrigtons up for it
much better than Andi
-
Alby prepared to have a dig. Come on you Lions!
-
3 shots. Keep this up Villa.
-
manure look as bad as us in defence
-
Albrighton another shot on target.
Officially now done more than Weimann has in the past 10 games combined.
-
Thats it Marco....shoot on sight my boy...do a Tonev. At least they hit the target
-
Alby seems to have done more in the first 10 mins than Weimann has managed in the last few games.
-
good move bentekes touch ;(
-
SOS Benteke of old!! SOS Real Benteke to VP please!
-
Albrighton doing well, that was unlucky for Benteke he was doing the right thing.
-
Thats it Marco....shoot on sight my boy...do a Tonev. At least they hit the target
hes doing good better than tonev and andi put together
-
Rooney all over Benteke at that corner.
-
Good start - much better balance with Lowton and albrighton - done more in 12 mins than we have in some whole games .
-
Other scores
Narwich 0-1 Swansea.
-
Albrighton is showing exactly how the wide role of the 4-3-3 should look. He is not being dragged central all the time.
-
Much better start from us, trying to pass the ball around.
-
Shit!! Christian last year would of controlled that lovely
-
This Albrighton kid almost looks like his namesake that broke into the team a while back.
-
Fuck off
-
Ah Fuck.
-
Sighs...
-
ffs defence again
-
There we go, criminal criminal defending. Lowton is fucking useless at defending.
-
Here we go again....
-
Good start. Alby has done really well so far. Benteke is finding space down the side of their defence.
We're passing it well too. Westwood knitting things together
We've tailed off after good starts in other home games though.
And it seems almost inevitable that they're going to get in down the side of baker at some point. He's had two bad touches and one instance of being caught out positionally already. Good tackler though!
-
Should never have got that cross in - poor defending.
-
struggling??? Come down to villa park
-
Loads of time yet.
-
Give Rooney a free header and pay the price.
-
Lowton and Luna are terrible defensive full backs, they don't stop crosses and they don't mark anyone in the box.
-
Lucky fucks
-
Fucking cock sticks.
-
Balls
Don't think that's as much lowton' fault as luna and sylla for allowing the cross no?
-
struggling??? Come down to villa park
They've lost two of 16 and won their CL group. I wish we would struggle that much.
-
Other scores
Narwich 0-1 Swansea.
thats the way to do it ;)
-
It's not lucky, it was terrible defending.
-
sucker punch
-
Give Rooney a free header and pay the price.
It was Janusaz (sp)
-
Shame Bentekes touch has been off so far. On song he'd have taken Albys ball in his stride and probably rifled it in the back of the net.
-
Just had an illogical random wave of optimism about this. But, Albrighton & Lowton are not PL match fit and must keep Januzaj & Giggs quiet over on that side.
And...epic fail, Lowton, letting Januzaj have a free header/ assist.
-
Lowton and Luna are terrible defensive full backs, they don't stop crosses and they don't mark anyone in the box.
Both being exposed at once, but typical united VP luck it drops straight to a striker a yard out.
-
A striker who never scores..... Scores against villa.
-
struggling??? Come down to villa park
They've lost two of 16 and won their CL group. I wish we would struggle that much.
league table says they are struggling (for them that is)
-
Oh ****** off you wankers
-
Game over.
-
fs that is shit Villa
-
Baker you are a useless useless wanker. Terrible pass has lost us the game.
-
Fuck me, I knew this would happen
-
we give the ball away AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
all they have to do is cross and score!!!!
A striker who can't score gets 2 in 3 minutes!!
Dismal!
-
Baker is fucking awful.
-
Fucking crap, but no surprise at all.
-
Terrible.
-
This could be our best performance, and we'll probably lose by a cricket score.
-
What the fuck. Baker criminal pass but Westwood has to go with Wellbeck. Such poor defending.
-
Oh god.....
-
Crisis for Man U? You know where to come...
-
Shocking pass from baker for 2nd - could be in for a real hiding here now.
-
A striker who Evers scores....... Score against villa.......twice.
-
Business as usual
-
how many fucking times Villa
do you give the fucking ball away
these were beatable today and you have just give it them
-
Only Villa can start well and then promptly find themselves 2-0 down. Maybe it is time for us to a come back from two down *clutches at straws*
-
twice in 3 minutes!
-
not a sucker punch. we're doomed
-
Piss poor. Game over. Baker is shite. Lunas positioning is horrific. Not good enough I'm afraid. We might have started the day 3 points behind Utd, but the reality is we're a hell of a long way behind them.
-
Baker is crap
-
Comically bad defending. It's as simple as that. It's not a particularly brilliant Man Utd team, but it's a particularly poor Villa defence.
-
I knew they were going to score as soon as baker gave that ball away.
Shocking again. Luna is entitled to press on and not think we're going to give it away when under no pressure
-
Shocking pass from baker for 2nd - could be in for a real hiding here now.
He's fucking useless.
-
Team on a bad run - check.
Striker can't score for toffee - check
Playing Villa next - check check fucking check
-
If you're ever down and out just loij out for when you next play Villa.
Game over. And for Lambert too.
-
Not only is Baker woeful he looks like he couldn't give a fuck too.
-
Piss poor. Game over. Baker is shite. Lunas positioning is horrific. Not good enough I'm afraid. We might have started the day 3 points behind Utd, but the reality is we're a hell of a long way behind them.
No shit sherlock FFS!
-
Team on a bad run - check.
Striker can't score for toffee - check
Playing Villa next - check check fucking check
;D
-
6 goals conceded in two and a half games since Vlaar got injured.
-
no one showing for albrighton
-
I'm actually welcoming the pop-ups.
-
No one gave Albrighton anything there.
-
Baker, Lowton, Luna, Sylla, Westwood, El Ahamadi such a shocking pile of shit we have in the team. The thing is Lambert the fucking dunce is the one who's signed most of them. He's signed some real turds for us, deserves the sack, i'm sick of being shite and trundling along buying rubbish. Lambert out the clown.
-
January can't come quickly enough
-
The players technical ability is Championship level at best. We're awful in almost every department.
-
We found something the Villa defence is good at...making a striker with no confidence find his feet.
Can we have Benteke play ourselves next?
-
Vlaar is so important. Losing Okore and Vlaar is so unlucky. But a centre half and a midfielder in Jan are musts.
-
6 goals conceded in two and a half games since Vlaar got injured.
The problem with losing your only Premiership standard defender.
-
Need Gabby to get closer to Benteke.
-
6 goals conceded in two and a half games since Vlaar got injured.
Less than 2 games if counting on minutes its 6 goals in 152 minutes :(
-
Baker is crap
Championship defender.
-
If vlaar is out for a while again we absolutely must get a right footed centre back in January or we are at risk of being sucked into a relegation scrap again. We must average at least two goals against without him at the back. The problem with Lescott is a) wages and b) if Vlaar's not fit you still need to play someone left footed on the right of the back four
The problem today is all the defence. We've looked reasonable going forwards and passing it.
-
Piss poor. Game over. Baker is shite. Lunas positioning is horrific. Not good enough I'm afraid. We might have started the day 3 points behind Utd, but the reality is we're a hell of a long way behind them.
No shit sherlock FFS!
Elementary my dear Watson.
That was my polite way of saying we're Championship quality.
-
Piss off Rooney thug
-
January can't come quickly enough
When everyone will strengthen except for us?
-
It's fucking rubbish, Baker is not a Premier League centre half and we need a replacement.
-
Think we played well first ten minutes....
Luna might well be the worst player of the Paul Lambert era
-
Baker, Lowton, Luna, Sylla, Westwood, El Ahamadi such a shocking pile of shit we have in the team. The thing is Lambert the fucking dunce is the one who's signed most of them. He's signed some real turds for us, deserves the sack, i'm sick of being shite and trundling along buying rubbish. Lambert out the clown.
hey you , bowery is good ;)
-
afternoon chaps, hows it going?
-
Also, the midfield contains two identical players really. Westwood and KEA. One of them is fine, not both of them,
-
January can't come quickly enough
When everyone will strengthen except for us?
Ooooh I dunno, we might buy 3 19yr olds from League 1 if we're lucky
-
Can we have Benteke play ourselves next?
Don't worry, he will soon.
-
January can't come quickly enough
why do you trust his signings
-
afternoon chaps, hows it going?
Don't ask
-
Tony Morley thinks its down to BAD LUCK!! I'll have some of what ever he's taking!
-
January can't come quickly enough
When everyone will strengthen except for us?
Sadly this is my thinking. We're buying hopeful punts for the most part.
We're now seeing what happens when the luck we've been having runs out. Mid-table as piss poorly as we've been playing was a false position. You only have to look at West Brom to see how quickly you can slide in this league.
-
Luna, Lowton and Baker all cannot defend.
-
lambert's very very lucky to still be in a job
-
Lets not get carried away with this mid table talk- Albion were above us 3 weeks ago and are now just above relegation zone - the bottom half is very tight and easy to get sucked into trouble.
-
afternoon chaps, hows it going?
Really well, we've had more shots than them.
-
lambert's very very lucky to still be in a job
I wouldn't say this is anything to do with Lambert...individual errors
-
Also, the midfield contains two identical players really. Westwood and KEA. One of them is fine, not both of them,
They're both fucking crap, how are players of this standard playing for Aston Villa? We are Villa for fucks sake not Wigan, why have we been signing nothing players from Crewe for buttons? Complete joke.
-
Piss poor.
The current back line is. Luna and Baker, are poor, and with doubt Clark and Lowton are only capable with better players with them.
Beyond that we need a couple of players that bring up the levels of the others. Benteke did it last season. We need that magic that makes the others lives easier. Individually they are not bad footballers, but the sum is not good enough.
-
The inevitability is so ball-achingly boring, I shouldn't get annoyed by it. But I do. There's always that annoying bit of hope that is so hard to eradicate.
-
ffs lucky there
we are like butter
-
lambert's very very lucky to still be in a job
I wouldn't say this is anything to do with Lambert...individual errors
Lamberts signings, Lamberts tactics, Lamberts training.
Is there anything the man is good at?
Oh I forgot he bought Benteke.
-
Luna is fucking awful.
-
Sounds like we are getting smashed now
-
and again could be 6 this
-
We just miss Vlaar and Delph. Luna's being ripped apart over there.
-
lambert's very very lucky to still be in a job
I wouldn't say this is anything to do with Lambert...individual errors
He picks , buys, and coaches them doesn't he?
-
While there's no width I think long range shots are all we're going to have.
-
fergies league cup team taking the piss
-
lambert's very very lucky to still be in a job
I don't think he is. Lerner isn't going to sack him and he knows it. But then what would be the point in sacking him when we've started on this project? We're going to have to see it out, come what may.
-
People booing and leaving their seats according to the wireless.
-
and we started pretty well. Looked crisp in possession. Come on Villa!
-
Is Baker carrying a knock ? He looks even slower than normal today.
-
weird thing is I havent heard giggs name . is he playing
-
This time next year it is vital that Baker, Lowton and Luna don't start for us.
-
Luna is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. I'd literally rather have Bennett in the side.
-
Have this horrible feeling we're seeing the beginnings of something like the 8-0 last season. Our defending has been wretched. Can't cope. Rooney is also bound to get his token 1-2 goals against us.
-
The players technical ability is Championship level at best. We're awful in almost every department.
Can't argue with that. When a team can't even pass the ball, when players shit themselves when they have the ball, you start to realise this team with "potential" is a waste of time.
-
fuck off KEA USELESS
-
I still think we can get a few goals against this lot......keeping them out is a different matter.
-
Anybody got 5-0 in the scores prediction?
-
Luna limping ala Stephen Warnock now trying to find a way off the pitch
We really have struggled in both full back positions for years
-
Baker, Lowton, Luna, Sylla, Westwood, El Ahamadi such a shocking pile of shit we have in the team. The thing is Lambert the fucking dunce is the one who's signed most of them. He's signed some real turds for us, deserves the sack, i'm sick of being shite and trundling along buying rubbish. Lambert out the clown.
Don't criticise Lambert on here. Some people just can't take it.
-
Lets not get carried away with this mid table talk- Albion were above us 3 weeks ago and are now just above relegation zone - the bottom half is very tight and easy to get sucked into trouble.
We aren't a midtable side. I don't think there has been a single convincing win this season and we're nearly at Christmas. We've completely stole a couple of wins and scrapped and scraped a couple against Norwich and Cardiff. 90% of the football has been dire, yes as bad as Mcleishs and the nous shown by our manager non existant.
-
weird thing is I havent heard giggs name . is he playing
Doesn't need to, he may as well get his pipe and slippers out.
-
Luna is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. I'd literally rather have Bennett in the side.
Bennett did alright at the end of last year and he deserves a chance.
-
Just got thrown out of the pub so back home watching on telly
I think we need to tighten up at the back :)
-
afternoon chaps, hows it going?
Don't ask
Too late, I looked....
-
I think Cuellar looked more comfortable on the ball than Baker
-
Luna is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. I'd literally rather have Bennett in the side.
Before they scored he almost let Valencia in when mis-controlling a simple ball. For a Spaniard he's fucking terrible on the ball. The less said about his defending the better.
And agreed. Bennett should come back in when he's fit.
-
I've had enough of this spending buttons for lower league players thing. It clearly either doesn't work or we've got the balance wrong.
Too many players who simply are not good enough yet.
-
This time next year week it is vital that Baker, Lowton and Luna don't start for us.
Fixed.
-
Gabby is dropping deep, but when he does, we only have Benteke alone up front....frustrating
-
Luna is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. I'd literally rather have Bennett in the side.
He came from a Spanish side that went down and conceded absolutely shit loads. Good scouting Lambore you twat.
-
we gone into useless mode now
-
I've had enough of this spending buttons for lower league players thing. It clearly either doesn't work or we've got the balance wrong.
Too many players who simply are not good enough yet.
Honestly mate, if I never see KEA in a Villa shirt again, I'll be a happy man. He's one of the worst midfielders I've seen in 23 years of supporting the club. And I've seen some doozies in my time.
-
I've had enough of this spending buttons for lower league players thing. It clearly either doesn't work or we've got the balance wrong.
Too many players who simply are not good enough yet.
Yep it's utter dross.
-
I'm starting to hope man utd sit back otherwise we may have to go into damage limitation mode.
-
Kea is so slow and shit!
-
I hate foreign players who do that invisible sandwich eat thing when they plead for forgiveness
-
Luna is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. I'd literally rather have Bennett in the side.
you can say that for most of them. This is easily the shittest villa side I've seen since I started supporting them in 1994.
-
Can't stand KEA...maybe my least favourite Villa player ever.
-
For once our passing of the ball is far from the big problem here. I suspect Westwood and sylla haven't given it away yet. Alby doing ok. The problem is clearly elsewhere
-
It is the balance. We need 2-3 quality players to pull it all together.
-
I'm starting to hope man utd sit back otherwise we may have to go into damage limitation mode.
like we did at Chelsea last year?
-
Could easily have conceded 5 in the last 20 minutes - horrendous.
-
Baker beaten by Welbeck again, nearly 3. Our midfield and defence are utter dross at the moment.
-
Baker, a spectator yet again
-
We've got no pace on the counter. It's embarrassing. Our one weapon doesn't work anymore.
This is how bad we are today. Welbeck might get the match ball. Danny fucking Welbeck.
-
Westwood and Sylla are very very good at doing nothing with the ball and hiding next to players when we have it.
-
Shows the lack of depth in our squad as Baker shouldnt be anywhere near the first team.
-
God. Wellbeck outruns Baker...driving the ball.
-
Why are we so shit every week though? There are other shit teams in the league who occasionally play well, or look dangerous. We never do though. KEA......Baker.....deary me. Dreadful players.
-
Albrighton has tried hard, but the likes of KEA are letting him down.
-
Anybody got 5-0 in the scores prediction?
No.
Backed us at 2-0 down with a fiver I forgot was in my account.
We will win. Thanks.
-
It is the balance. We need 9 or 10 quality players to pull it all together.
Fixed.
-
They should be 5 up now....
-
Panic, panic, panic. Absolutely shite. It's a good job we have 19 points in the bag already because we are a December 2012 capitulation waiting to happen. Hard to imagine Benteke, Weimann and Gabby all hitting form at the same time again to dig us out of shit.
I feel sorry for Clark who is essentially a one man defence today. They are just targeting Luna and Baker (or both) because they are shit.
-
stream gone down
blessing maybe
-
Anybody got 5-0 in the scores prediction?
Half or full time prediction?
-
With the current injuries Lambert's other signings are being shown for what they are. Not very good.
-
It is the balance. We need 9 or 10 quality players to pull it all together.
Fixed.
Lambert wouldn't know what to do with them.
-
I know at the back we're shockingly shite but if we had a decent midfielder Benteke could of been in 3 times
-
There are no surprises here. It's Man United. This is what we do against them. In some ways it's better to lose the game in the first twenty minutes than to have it snatched away in the last 2 minutes. But in the long term, as long as we refuse to pay the wages of proven quality players, this is what we'll be facing up to.
-
For once our passing of the ball is far from the big problem here. I suspect Westwood and sylla haven't given it away yet. Alby doing ok. The problem is clearly elsewhere
It's the manager, I'm afraid.

Red card for United, goal for us before half time.

goodbye note
-
The only hope for this match is that Utd take their foot off the gas and just start taking it easy. That's the only way we'll avoid an absolute twotting.
-
This is embarrassing stuff
-
Shows the lack of depth in our squad as Baker shouldnt be anywhere near the first team.
Shouldn't be in the squad mate, same with Albrighton, lovely lad and has looked ok today but he's been crap for 2 years and didn't pull up any trees in the few games for Wigan in the Championship yet he's brought back into the fold as we desperately look for someone to do something to get us going, that's how bad it is right now.
I'd say these last 210 minutes against Southampton, Fulham and these glory hunting kent wankers have been some of the worst football I've seen the Villa play in 25 years. The Soton robbery is just papering over massive cracks, as it the midtable ''we're 11th'' shit.
-
Kea included.
Midfield not giving the defence any support. Kea lost januzaj for the first goal and Welbeck was through there because the midfield had so much space to pick the pass
Still it could be destiny that we're going to reverse things and come back from two down in the second half. Maybe? Please?
Think we need to get kea off. Possibly Gardner??
-
For once our passing of the ball is far from the big problem here. I suspect Westwood and sylla haven't given it away yet. Alby doing ok. The problem is clearly elsewhere
Whats so frustrating its not as if we did not try and fix it in the summer. Jores Okore looked a great player and him and Ron could have been very good. The problem is Concrete Ron is more like Tissue Paper Ron and with the pair out we aint good enough back there. Maybe we should have thought about a loan when Okore got crocked.
-
Albrighton's been absolutely fine today. Luna, Baker and KEA haven't and have been targeted.
-
goodbye note
Nope. I'm confident.
-
I've had enough of this spending buttons for lower league players thing. It clearly either doesn't work or we've got the balance wrong.
Too many players who simply are not good enough yet.
It's the balance that's wrong, I think. When you only have a handful of experienced, proven pros in the entire squad, a couple of injuries will destroy you. We've lost Vlaar (and Okore) and there's nobody to carry the other defenders, none of whom are individually good enough yet for this level. Although it's probably also got something to do with Lambert's fixation with full-backs whose defensive postioning would have an U12s coach doing his nut.
-
KEA is absolutely miles off the pace.
-
It is the balance. We need 2-3 quality players to pull it all together.
More like 5 or 6
-
Valencia is riding Luna like if he was a shetlandpony with a broken back....
-
weird thing is I havent heard giggs name . is he playing
Doesn't need to, he may as well get his pipe and slippers out.
and a mince pie and sherry
-
If Lambo thinks these players are going to improve into those worthy of a top ten side then he needs his head shaking.
-
There's a thread on here where we are slagging off the Boggies for sacking their manager.
There are loads of posts on here suggesting we do the same.
Get a grip lads eh?

To be fair we have had chances especially early on. Get one goal and it's a different game.
-
Oh dear. Same as it ever was so far.
-
If Lambo thinks these players are going to improve into those worthy of a top ten side then he needs his head shaking.
He thinks Westwood could play for England. That says it all.
-
Anyone ever have their head injured as much as Baker?
Lambert has been let down by the players today, but he needs to stand up to Lerner in Jan and say he needs 2, maybe 3 6-7 million pound players of quality if we are going to be comfortable.
-
albrighton best player by far - lambert didnt sign him
-

Okore does look a cracking prospect but he's still young too. There's no garauntee he'll hit the ground running when he gets back. Though I think he'll do well.
We do however desperately need experience and a bit of intelligence throughout the pitch.
-
albrighton best player by far - lambert didnt sign him
Agreed
-
Movement Villa, you have to move off the fucking ball to create space.
-
We are a mid table side. However you take out our best two defenders, our best MF and add in a star striker badly out of form and this is the end result for all mid table sides.
-
To be fair we have had chances especially early on. Get one goal and it's a different game.
True, we've been in this situation before this season.
-
albrighton best player by far - lambert didnt sign him
Yep, then probably Gabby and Clark....and didn't sign them
-
albrighton best player by far - lambert didnt sign him
Yep. Frustratingly though he's floating in the center too much. He's a winger. Lambert really hates width it seems and we look shiter because of it.
-

Get a grip lads eh?
Its not the answer. We do need decent cover for Ron and another back there and have a rethink about Luna that's for sure. We also need a bit of luck up front.
-
it's cringeworthy watching Westwood and KEA giving the ball back to each other...little one yard passes, looking so uncomfortable. They ruin pretty much every move we have going forward. I'd love it if both of them never played for Villa again.
-
Sounds like Dyer has had a very nasty injury for Swansea.

We certainly got unlucky with Okore. Clark has stepped up and now looks absolutely way ahead of baker to me
We just need to grab a goal somehow and to get better shape to mask our poor quality in defence
Alby man of the match for us by a mile so far.
-
If it's on Sky 9 times of 10 we play extremely shit. Nothing new here!
-
Oh dear. Same as it ever was so far.
Annoying isn't it. Man utd have their worst season in decades but come to villa park and its as you were.
-
nothing wrong with that tackle
-
Evra is a twat. That was a good hard tackle.
-
3-2 comeback win would be some nice revenge for all the ones we've had to endure from them down the years.
-
nothing wrong with that tackle
Might have accidentally stamped on him afterwards, I think that was what the reaction was for.
-
well looking on the bright side....hmm.....no scrub that
-
Fucking hell Lowton, what was that pass he was trying to Albrighton, before that tackle? Needlessly giving it away and putting him in the position to have to tackle. Solid and fair tackle, but he shouldn't have given it away so cheaply before then. We do shit like this far too often.

Yes but I don't think it's a case of everything's ok either. It's somewhere in between, we haven't actually played very well for about 6 weeks now. We've got some results in that time, but like the England cricket team you can only go on playing poorly and getting results for so long.

I don't think it's too ridiculous, to be honest. I think there are some people who feel that Lambert isn't really improving things very much (I'm one of them) and therefore wouldn't be too sorry to try someone else (I'm one of them, too).
If Lambert was sacked tomorrow morning, I wouldn't be very bothered at all, really.
-
I guess its a season of trying our best to stay away from the red line of death and getting what we can....hoping we improve ( how??) next season
-
Merry Christmas David Moyes.

Problem is mid table and bottom 3 are separated by only 2 wins - easy to slip into trouble.
-

Kea yes. Westwood no. I just don't see the criticism of him sometimes. What we lack with the way we play is a proper covering midfielder. But that's not the thing most people seem to criticise him for.
Petrov used to be a similar player, but at a higher level of course. Fans used to moan about him too until he got leukaemia and then at least a third of our fans suddenly forgot they'd ever criticised him and he became a playing legend
-
If Lambo thinks these players are going to improve into those worthy of a top ten side then he needs his head shaking.
He thinks Westwood could play for England. That says it all.
Westwood has been okay so far today and last year was looking international class. He's dropped off this year but still an impressive signing in my opinion.
-
There are 3 players out there who should be nowhere near the side - Luna, KEA and Baker. If all were fit I suspect Bennett would have won his place back weeks ago, Vlaar and Clark would be playing and Delph may well be where KEA is. Unfortunately the side can't carry them being poor and not having Benteke and Gabby in form up top.
Albrighton being back is a positive and should stay in. Vlaar and Delph back next week and we could look much better.
But we have to replace those not good enough with significantly better.
-
7 goals in our last 10 games. Exciting stuff Lambert, young, hungry, exciting players. Pull the other one. Young, cheap, easy to manage players more like.
-
If I could summon up any interest, I'd be pissed off with this same old same old.

I think he's a wasted position in the team. Doesn't tackle, is slow, has no vision, physically as imposing as a carrot but he plays a mean 10 yard pass to someone in the centre circle.
-
United fans are singing "Can we play you every week?"...
.....at Villa Park....
...at halftime...
... it just insult to injury!

-
Started brightly until the goal went. Albrighton looked like he had the bit inbetween his teeth and more composed than usual.
But the problem lies with easily 3 of the back 4. Massively miss Vlaar and Okore and 2 good full backs too.
Oh, and our midfield minus Delph is proper bunk!
-
Other scores
Narwich 1-1 Swansea
-
Well let's hope something can happen in second half. I'd get Gardner on for KEA, because he can't do any less.
-
Wouldn't mind seeing Gardner getting a run. 2-0 down flatters us a touch
Kozak will come on I suspect and we will go long ball/pass
Albrighton has been bright, Clark has done ok. The rest are a bad joke

No it is not ok at all, but then I reckon you sit Lambert down and he will say as much. He had every side he has managed playing attacking football, but for us this season. All managers have poor spells, and at some point stepping back and saying right - as long as you stay up you 3-4 seasons to build a side - might be the way to move forward in the longer term.
-
Unless we spend some serious money, the likes of which MoN frittered away, we will continue to be shit. You cant pay pennies and compete with clubs spending pounds.
-
I've been wondering for a few weeks now if Lambert's Villa career has long to go. If Clarke can get the flick for such a mediocre record, Lambert must have that worry at the back of his mind, surely?

Just one point - do you think sacking Clarke is suddenly going to transform the Stripeyfilth?
-
Kea is so frustrating, far too often he just switches off and stands around. He did it twice when Albrighton had the ball on the right and was looking for someone to go into the 10 spot and instead KEA stood next to his marker 5 yards behind just hiding rather than trying to influence things. I don't mind 1 midfielder holding his position but Westwood does that better so KEA really needs to get involved going forward and try to make some space for people.
The pass from Baker for their 2nd was dire.
-
We certainly got unlucky with Okore. Clark has stepped up and now looks absolutely way ahead of baker to me
We just need to grab a goal somehow and to get better shape to mask our poor quality in defence
Alby man of the match for us by a mile so far.
I suppose he could have got that inury any time
but I remember at the game , we gave the ball away ( think it was KEA ) and was put under pressure when Newcastle broke from it when he picked up the injury.
-
Westwood is one of the worst culprits for not tracking runners from deep which is a problem I pointed out during the good run was last year and one of the key reasons for our crap defensive record. I am sick of watching players ghost in from deep to polish off crosses. Westwood does have ability on the ball however. KEA just gets in his way. When he signed, he was supposed to be some sort of composed, metronomic midfield was he not? Never seen it, never seen him offer anything of great worth and he needs replacing.
Westwood is probably not quite as good this year as he was last but is getting criticised for the same things he was praised for last year. Sylla is an absolute shadow of himself and is not providing anything. It is in no way good enough in midfield now and with the forwards woefully out of form, our best two defenders out and Delph suspended, we look exactly how we did this time last year. Which isn't very good.
-
Just one point - do you think sacking Clarke is suddenly going to transform the Stripeyfilth?
Depends entirely on who they replace him with doesn't it? If it's someone better, then it's possible.

Hello again Matt-we seem to be having this discussion in recent games regarding Westwood:) What do you think his best role is? A covering midfielder? A playmaker? He just doesn't seem to have any redeeming qualities-no pace, never plays an incisive pass really, his set pieces lack any sort of penetration and he always seems to slow our attacks down (as for some reason, our players seem instructed to pass the ball to him at every opportunity). The most I see him do, attacking-wise is take a wayward 25-30 yard shot which, Baggies game aside, never tests the goalkeeper.
I'd love Westwood to prove me wrong, I thought he looked promising towards the end of last season. He's just so uninspiring. Anyway, second half to come, maybe he'll shut me up completely and score a hattrick
-
Turgid stuff.
We need faces and players in Jan, experienced ones who can defend and create.
How much longer can the poor fans at the game be expected to endure this run of results, I keep saying support Lambert but January could be big for him.

I'm in the give him till summer and if we've scraped ourselves by again, look elsewhere. There's no point changing managers mid-season as there's no one good around, unless we're being particularly ambitious (which we wouldn't).
If we're around the 40 point mark again in May. Thanks but no thanks, fuck him off and try another approach. That is unless Lambert does something drastic and changes his buying mentality and does something significant with his tactics and training.
Some of the players out on the pitch should not be playing Premier League football. Some would be out of their depth in the Championship.
-
Of course Baker isn't good enough to start week in week out. It's why he's 4th choice CB, how many clubs have a 4th choice who is good enough?
-
We've been in relegation trouble three years running and have sold a shed load of players and wasted millions and millions more despite seemingly reducing our spend
I'm not happy with our form but the thought we should sack our manager when firmly ensconced in mid table is silly in my view.
My god that's a shocking pass by baker. Shocking. It was a terrible place to play it never mind the execution.
-
Danny Baker on Twitter:
Whenever Villa face Man U they turn into Bob Dylan's backing band. "How do you want us to play, what speed & let us know when it's over."
nail on head
-
Maybe it's me finding ill where there is none, but there are so many players looking imitations of themselves compared to last season that there has to be some discord going on behind the scenes? The likes of Benteke, Lowton, Westwood and Weimann look like they hate the sight of a football, let alone their teammates.
-
Just one point - do you think sacking Clarke is suddenly going to transform the Stripeyfilth?

Right but we know Vlaar's injury record. You'd hope he could be competent if he's 4th choice and he just isn't.
-
Anyone out there, likely to come, who will do it for us?
Now you see when I asked why keeping Lambert was such a genius move I was hoping for 'He's doing this, he's doing that, he's doing the other'. What I was expecting, and got, is 'There are no alternatives', 'They won't come.'
This is what worries me. Even Lambert supporters can't, or won't, point to anything he's doing as a reason to keep him.
-
Midfield is so narrow, not getting close to three up top, letting Utd players run off them, they are running around a lot, thats about all.
-
I don't care what anyone else says ,this clueless idiot in charge has got to go.Since he has been our manager every other premier manager with the same kind of record has been sacked
Might be why most of those teams are either a few places or even a division below us.
-
I've been wondering for a few weeks now if Lambert's Villa career has long to go. If Clarke can get the flick for such a mediocre record, Lambert must have that worry at the back of his mind, surely?
Are you forgetting what happened last season? Our worst in years, yet Lambert's job was never in doubt. Now that Fergie has gone, there isn't a safer job in the top flight. Lerner will not want to go through yet another torturous manager selection saga, and neither should we want him to. We're stuck with this for the foreseeable future. But today's game has no bearing on anything.
-

He's a water carrier / like deschamps (obviously not that level)
I think he passes it forwards more than he gets credit for. He certainly did against west brom
I think he was poor this season until around 4-5 games ago but has been a lot better of late.
I'm not saying I wouldn't want a better player than him alongside Delph. But we haven't got one. And if we bought one I'd ship out kea well before I got rid of him

This.
-
Can we at least look like we are putting a shift in? It's like a practice game for them (again).
We are not working anywhere near hard enough.
-
I don't care what anyone else says ,this clueless idiot in charge has got to go.Since he has been our manager every other premier manager with the same kind of record has been sacked
If you are given shit money to buy players you will buy shit, you might find the odd diamond but you will be lucky. We have been selling players and buying cheap replacements. The question is could we find a manager who could do better with the tools available?
-
Clark and Baker not up to this standard atm.Westwood shite, Sylla crap, Gabby liability, appalling technique.
Albrighton by far our best player. When we attack, we have 4 against their 8, wheres the FBs pushing up, wheres Westwood and Sylla.
Westwood is far too negative when he receives the ball, their 2nd goal started when he received the ball, should have passed forward to KEA, passed the ball bacwards to Lowton, as usual.Replacing him is essential.
-
Benteke probably hates playing in a team that simply cannot get behind a defence. But, does he have to make it so obvious with his body language?!
-
I don't want lambert sacked just yet...I still say give him this season and maybe next. But if we do at some point get rid then we have to go down the Southampton route and Villa need to stop living in the dark ages with the managerial appointments and style of play.
Foreign all the way for me with continental ideas, tactics and scouting.
-
Of course Baker isn't good enough to start week in week out. It's why he's 4th choice CB, how many clubs have a 4th choice who is good enough?
Right but we know Vlaar's injury record. You'd hope he could be competent if he's 4th choice and he just isn't.
He can do an ok job short term, but virtually no 4th choice CB in the league can do the job week in week out. It's why they are 4th choice in the first place.
-
are grealish , carruthers and that robinson lad any worse than this lot.
Nope. I honestly don't get why we'd buy so many kids and play them in place of our own. We have one of the best academy's around. Obviously it doesn't always work out, but I'd rather take a punt on players like Grealish, Carruthers, Robinson, Johnson etc, who are also brought up trying to play decent football.
Our side is young so it makes no difference if more of the nippers we play happen to be from our academy. Bakers had his shot and isn't up to it, so lets see what Donacien can do for example.
We're so sorely lacking in a bit of quality and guile in midfield that I think players like those mentioned above could actually offer us at least 10% more spark in attack.
-
Just one point - do you think sacking Clarke is suddenly going to transform the Stripeyfilth?
Depends entirely on who they replace him with doesn't it? If it's someone better, then it's possible.
Anyone out there, likely to come, who will do it for us?
Steve Clarke! He'll get us playing like Barcelona.
He might be able to get the players passing the ball. That would be a massive improvement.
Passing it to each other rather than the opposition as well please.
-
I don't care what anyone else says ,this clueless idiot in charge has got to go.Since he has been our manager every other premier manager with the same kind of record has been sacked
We'll be joining them soon.
Might be why most of those teams are either a few places or even a division below us.
-

See I'm not sure he can do an ok job, whenever he plays centre half we concede goals. You want your 4th choice to be a player at the end of the career who has experience.
-
Criticism of Clark harsh I think. Can't say I remember any chances coming down his side. I think he's much much better this season than last
-
It's not Clark that's the issue, it's the other 3.
-

You probably said that last season, and the season before and the......
-
wank header
-
I actually got the line-up I wanted more or less. But only because we have no one better than Luna and Clark. I am afraid he will stick with Luna for a long time, as he has just bought him. "needs to adapt", "only just got here", "learning a new language", "dont forget, he is just 22" etc. bla, bla, bla. Strange to want Bennett back from injury so much.
-
Of course Baker isn't good enough to start week in week out. It's why he's 4th choice CB, how many clubs have a 4th choice who is good enough?
Right but we know Vlaar's injury record. You'd hope he could be competent if he's 4th choice and he just isn't.
There shouldn't be a single player in the squad who isn't of the level which you play at, the quality drops no doubt when you get to 4th choice but being honest Baker is probably a 1st Division defender. To go with Luna who would have been playing in the Spanish 2nd, Sylla from the French 2nd, Westwood and Lowton from our 1st Division, Bowery from the 2nd. Too many players being asked to play waaaaaay above their means.
-
It's not Clark that's the issue, it's the other 3.
Yea...Clarks not great but the other 3 are by far a lot worse.
-
Is this our worst midfield since David Hunt and Mark Lillis?
-
Just one point - do you think sacking Clarke is suddenly going to transform the Stripeyfilth?
Depends entirely on who they replace him with doesn't it? If it's someone better, then it's possible.
Didn't do southampton any harm - the key is getting the right man - I'm not convinced lambert should stay but would give him a bit longer .
-
Criticism of Clark harsh I think. Can't say I remember any chances coming down his side. I think he's much much better this season than last
Clark has improved but hard not to from where he was at some points last season, Baker on the other hand is a spectator, positionally inept and technically inadequate.
-
Benteke probably hates playing in a team that simply cannot get behind a defence. But, does he have to make it so obvious with his body language?!
In the huddle before the game, Guzan and others was slapping backs, trying to instill energy. Benteke was shrugging. You catch that?
-
Proud History Bright future my arse...
-
Fight fight fight
-
Fucking hell sylla. That's poor.
I'm not convinced by Gardner and he's been out for ages. But I'd be tempted to get him on
Fucking hell baker what kind of pass was that?
-
Gotta love Gabby's chutzpah.
-
Benteke's work rate is horrible at the moment.
-
Gotta love Gabby's chutzpah.
I think that was photoshop
-
gabby must be gutted to miss a trip to stoke
-
Sounds like a good day to be at work...
-
Gotta love Gabby's chutzpah.
I think that was photoshop
Heh heh...
-
Gotta love Gabby's chutzpah.
Is that the new Ferrari?
-
Could this ref be any more biased? Every time a Manure player falls to the floor it's a free kick no matter what.
-
Gotta love Gabby's chutzpah.
But not the fact that he's now banned for the Sturk game.
-
Game fully over
-
Of all the keepers I hate De Gay boy the most and his wet flannel hair cut
-
3 0 shit
-
Is this our worst midfield since David Hunt and Mark Lillis?
Yep. Honestly KEA is very poor.
Westwood isn't good enough yet, and doesn't look like he has it in his locker either.
Sylla isn't a footballer, he's a cross country runner.
Likewise the defense out at the moment is as poor as we've ever had. We're sorely missing Vlaar, and even Ron isn't a patch on the likes of Mellberg or Laursen.
-
3-0 more criminal defending, and the ultimate insult Cleverley scores. Luna at fault again.
-
Anyone out there, likely to come, who will do it for us?
Now you see when I asked why keeping Lambert was such a genius move I was hoping for 'He's doing this, he's doing that, he's doing the other'. What I was expecting, and got, is 'There are no alternatives', 'They won't come.'
This is what worries me. Even Lambert supporters can't, or won't, point to anything he's doing as a reason to keep him.
It's a tough one I admit. The constraints he works under are impossible in this league. I know he has spent quite a bit of money but our wage bill is probably similar to a Championship team, well once the big earners have all finally gone. We are not in the market for quality players it seems, all potential which is far too much of a gamble. The odd one might pay off and be a masterstroke. There is no way a whole team can be bought based on this method. To find a team of winners in the lower leagues must be like the odds of winning the lottery.
Maybe keeping us in the league with this team is actually a achievement in its self? He did turn it around last season? Or did we get lucky with Benteke turning into a Messi type player. Blimey we do need him to start scoring though.
-
fuck sake
-
even fooking cleverly can score
-
Luna gave the ball away for that one, too. Cricket score pending.
-
Even got Sheffield UTD fans taking the piss...
-
It's truly awful. In the space between Baker and Luna again and the latter just gave up. I was already relatively beer depressed before this kicked off but this is awful!
-
Lambert - you going back like last season again
-
4-3 we're gonna ........ nah we aren't.
-
Oh bugger
Given it away again. Luna this time
I'm becoming a massive advocate of a winter break
-
Fucking hell Tony! What are you doing? He gave up. Get him out of the club! A disgrace.
-
6 weeks in a row we've played dreadfully, yes we've won some points but it's more inspite of our performances that because of them.
-
well thats game over
Cleverly and Wellback ..fucking disgracefull
-
What is thoroughly depressing is that every match thread is the same, or has been for a good number of weeks. We've managed to get some results in that time but the theory of 1/3 or less possession in a game was never going to maintain the results we've managed to get. It's really hurting us now
-
We are doomed to another relegation struggle and no mistake.
-
bring tonev on, need to timewaste
-
And an advocate of joe Bennett
-
Still a while left lads.
-
We'd actually probably do no worse if Luna or Baker were sent off.
-
:o :'( Fucking Cleverley.
Does anyone have any idea what our game plan is in general, not just today, as a team, how are we going about winning games? I have no idea, it just seems to be hanging on for dear life game after game and hope to nick one.
-
Guzan........ smh
-
What an awfully poor poor team we are.
-
Still a while left lads.
yeah, you must be very confident with your bet now
-
Despite one of my symptoms spitting blood, i'm fucking glad i'm ill today and not at the game.
-
We are just poor. We really need to sort something out.. I can see no improvement. Glad I chose to see the Quo tonight instead of driving all the way up there and back!
-
could have been 4 then
-
Sir Alex, you must be getting bored now...all we ask for is 6 months from you.
-
If Lambert doesn't sub Luna...well, I dunno, but it means he's a twat.
-
Luna is having the worse game I can remember any defender having. Utterly dreadful.
-
Lambert out please ASAP. I'm sick of ite
-
albrighton did well
syllva finish championship
-
The saddest part is that Utd even that good today. We're just making it incredibly easy for the most ordinary side they've had in decades. Rooneys having a nice sunday afternoon stroll. He's going to score before the game is out too.
-
well thats game over
Cleverly and Wellback ..fucking disgraceful
Why we've played shit and deserve to be losing.
-
We're a really poor side.
-
Mid table mediocrity is what I dream about.
Utter garbage for week after week now.
-
Gary Neville is on the verge of starting a charity to support Luna.
-
Despite one of my symptoms spitting blood, i'm fucking glad i'm ill today and not at the game.
Hope you feel better Mr Shin. Not the same but I got up and shovelled around 10 inches of snow prior to this debacle. I may as well have been shovelling shit watching us today. It would have been as enjoyable.
-
Marc has been ace - most the rest are embarrassing
-
There is only one person to blame for the state of our club. Randy must take the blame for what we have become, a club with a turbulent future fighting relegation or hoping for mid table finishes.
Well fucking done Randy...
-
Luna has probably had the worst game I've seen from a Villa player since Ugo against Norwich.
Truly and incredibly inept in every way.
-
So.....Lamberts worst signing so far chaps? You're allowed to pick more than 5!
-
We're a really poor side.
We certainly are - defence , midfield and attack - problems all over the field .
-
How many times have teams taken the piss out of us in the last year?
Albrighto superb by the way - full of effort and ideas. The only one of course.
-
Gary Neville is on the verge of starting a charity to support Luna.
At least he can apparently see it.
-
Bentekes touch has turned to complete shite.
Sylla again showing limitations. To have a Milner on the end of a chance like that would be heaven.
I feel for Albrighton he's trying hard and seems like the one player who might create something. I'd get Kozak on asap because Benteke doesn't look like scoring.
-
Albrighton is only player to play decently here.
-
Not all Luna's fault United are doubling up on him constantly and he is getting no help
-
Albrighton the only really bright spark so far
That was a good chance for sylla
Luna is just being left two v one all the time. Gabby is basically playing up front so Luna has no protection at all.
-
There's a few players who are actually still trying out there....none of them have been Lamberts signings
-
Here comes Weimann :(
-
Sounds like Benteke is disinterested yet again. He really is becoming a passenger since his injury.
-
Perhaps we should send all our players to Wigan on loan.
-
Bentekes touch has turned to complete shite.

Is benteke sweating?
-
Albrighton must wonder if this is the same stadium where he used to contribute to counter attacks finished by Gabby and Young and Carew.
-
If he puts Weimann in for Albrighton im gonna lose it....
-
There's a few players who are actually still trying out there....none of them have been Lamberts signings
Yes , very trying .
-
Sylla off Andi on
-
You buy lower league players you get lower league performances.
-
I think the well of support for Lambert might be close to dry following this. He's received a lot of backing from the fans and he had the benefit of not being TSM. He needs to find a fix to this because two relegation battles shouldn't be tolerated.
-
Man Utd's weak link has been their midfield. We have no Midfield so that negated their weakness. It's just essentially their attack and midfield runners with help from the fullbacks against our defence. There was only ever going to be one result.
We go again?
-
why Sylla?
what about KEA?
-
We are just poor. We really need to sort something out.. I can see no improvement. Glad I chose to see the Quo tonight instead of driving all the way up there and back!
Don't repeat this but I think I'd rather watch Quo than the Villa today.
-
If he puts Weimann in for Albrighton im gonna lose it....
he would have been booed
-

I think if we lose to stoke and palace then many more will turn on him .
-
Last season Benteke would have buried that. Good play Albrighton again.
-
why Sylla?
what about KEA?
Much of a muchness, could have been either, or Westwood, none of them have done anything but give the ball away.
-
My stream has gone. Is he piling on extra forwards yet, like a playground match?
-

Unfortunately Stoke look reasonable at the moment. Palace have also improved under Pulis.
-
palace will give us a game ;(
-
If he puts Weimann in for Albrighton im gonna lose it....
he would have been booed
Wait til the end of the game and he might just be.
-
Albrighton my son.........you're starting week in week out.....has to!
-
So, now we are lighter in midfield. How many goals dya want United?
-
Waiting for Kozak to come on for another midfielder so we can finish the game with no midfield hoofing aimless balls to a clutch of strikers, the Lambert panic tactic.
-
We are just poor. We really need to sort something out.. I can see no improvement. Glad I chose to see the Quo tonight instead of driving all the way up there and back!
Don't repeat this but I think I'd rather watch Quo than the Villa today.
Just got to get up to the O2 - fortunately my mate has a VIP box so will get fed! We are so poor, and it is the same every week!.
-
Not all Luna's fault United are doubling up on him constantly and he is getting no help
Fair point. It's a huge problem with Lambert's system - we have three in the middle, all getting in each other's way, and great swathes of empty pitch down the flanks for the opposition to attack our full backs. Albrighton is drifting wide on the right and giving Lowton a bit of cover, plus he's giving Evra something to think about. But we have sod all on the left in front of Luna.
-
Is Gabby still on?
-
The best we can hope for now is to establish a pattern of play for the next few games. Possibly 4231 with albrighton right, Weimann central and gabby left
And positions for kea, baker and luna to be slipped out as soon as possible
-
We are just poor. We really need to sort something out.. I can see no improvement. Glad I chose to see the Quo tonight instead of driving all the way up there and back!

I'd rather sleep Subo with than watch this
-
It's almost too late to sack Lambert now. Any replacement needs the January transfer window, so if he's going, he has to go after this result really. But it's academic, because he won't go, or be sacked.
-
Get down Junusjaiziaioa
-
palace will give us a game ;(
Accrington Stanley would give us a game :(
-
Team needs massive investment to be honest.
-
Listening on Talkshite it sounds like we have given up.
-
isnt it finshed yet - its dragging on
-
No matter how bad Utd are these days, we're still playing them....it's not as if we're losing to Aldershot
-
...... But to all the sack Lambert campaigners , who is going to come to us!, no money to spend, maybe Benteke will go for a fair price and we can get some quality instead of all youngsters!
Why oh Why didn't we take Gareth Barry, look how well he's doing at Everton
-
A flukey consolation for Benteke off his shin might give something to build on over Christmas.
-
Looks like Tom Daley is coming on!
-
...... But to all the sack Lambert campaigners , who is going to come to us!, no money to spend, maybe Benteke will go for a fair price and we can get some quality instead of all youngsters!

One word: wages.

We've spent £43m mate.
-
It's almost depressingly inevitable what's going to happen now. I don't think Young will cheat, but he will suddenly re-discover he's a decent player and probably skin 3 players before rifling the ball in the top corner.
-
heres the cnut coming on - playing shit , but you know he will score
-

Next season is big for him. These are his signings and he needs them to step and so far they aren't doing it.

There are plenty of managers who would come to Villa, but the real question is whether they would make a positive difference.

-
Fletcher and Young on, no doubt to score one each. Come to Villa one and all if you have a flagging career to save.
-
Benteke played like drogba in his prime last season , this season he reminds me of heskey :(
-
No matter how bad Utd are these days, we're still playing them....it's not as if we're losing to Aldershot
I feel so much better , thanks
-
You know it's a training game when Young and Fletcher comes on for his first game in a year. Hope Young gets two bookings for dives the fairy.
-
you know what happens now don't you? Mr Young trips over a blade of grass that was too long resulting in....well, you know the rest.
-
And clutching at straws slightly I think Lowton has been ok - certainly helped us keep the ball a bit better
And I'm going to say something controversial but I think there have been some signs that our creative play in the third quarter of the pitch is coming back to some of the pass and move style of the last third of last season. I know I'll get shot down for that but I think Westwood has been passing it forwards, albrighton has been very good including coming off the wing and Weimann has been bright since coming on.
Benteke has been crap though, particularly his touch and workrate. And the whole defensive side had been too bad to cope with.
-
The thing that worries me most about Lambert is that his tactics are rigid or just plain incomprehensible. We always look lopsided to me, and it's often hard to tell what the gameplan is. I was under the impression he was meant to be a pragmatic, horses-for-courses sort of manager who tries to play attractive football, but we always seem to play the same way, even when it's blatantly not working (except when he panics and throws on 17 forwards).
-
No matter how bad Utd are these days, we're still playing them....it's not as if we're losing to Aldershot

Only here to please....come back next weekend.
-
Can stop all this talk of 'campaigns' to sack Lambert. He's been living a charmed life with the fans for ages. We are DIRE at the back, cumbersome in midfield and toothless up front too often. He's an unlucky manager too with injuries.
-
Benteke played like drogba in his prime last season , this season he reminds me of heskey :(
At least Heskey put the effort in even if the end product wasn't there. Benteke just doesn't seem interested.
-

If he gets next season.
-
We easily have to be the worst team in the league in trying intricate passes around the box

When he came he promised entertaining , attractive football .
-
It's a shame we show some of our best play when we're 3-0 down and the game is dead.
-
Two filthy tackles from Lowton and Clark. clowns
-
get bacuna on for the free kick
-
Watching Villa is like making the transition from Fifa 13 to Fifa 14 and thinking I used to be really good at this....now I'm shit again.
-
Among other things, man utd fans in full voice at villa park, again, really grates on me.
-

Thats nothing without the wages.
What would have done us more good? Spending £43m on 12 players of dubious ability or spending £25m on 5 or so players with the extra going on a bit more wages for players who fit a certain gameplan and of a known quality?
-
If Villa had a genuinely Premier League class midfielder, I think a lot of these players would look far better. They're all looking for somebody to lead them, and getting nowhere.
-
Watching Villa is like making the transition from Fifa 13 to Fifa 14 and thinking I used to be really good at this....now I'm shit again.
-
luna gives ball away and then baker loses it
they are both poor players
-
It's a shame we show some of our best play when we're 3-0 down and the game is dead.
Man Utd have stopped playing now.
-
De Gea makes a meal of every save he has to make.
-
Baker isn't good enough in any way.
-
Bloody hell baker and luna up to their old tricks again
Anyone know when Bennett is due to be back?
-
Is Luna really the best our scouting system could find? What exactly did they say in the bloke? Terrible on the ball and even worse defensively.
-
Fuck off Welbeck, you're still shite mate!
-
And neither is Luna. Shocking.
-
It's a shame we show some of our best play when we're 3-0 down and the game is dead.
something to do with MAnure took their foot off
-
Bloody hell baker and luna up to their old tricks again

No sign of him in training yet - back problem .
-
Hey Sam theMouse, careful mate, saying things like that about Lambert won't go down to well with a lot of the posters on here
-
Games gone. We might as well give Gardner a chance no?
-
Is Luna really the best our scouting system could find? What exactly did they say in the bloke? Terrible on the ball and even worse defensively.
Two summers it appeared like we were after Clapham at Ipswich and it seems like we settled for second best both times. That said, Clapham might have been bobbins for us too.
-

Lowton is looking better because Albrighton is screening and providing him with options. Bacuna wouldnt do any worse in that position tonight.
The diffrence is that Weimann plays as striker...going after Bentekes space. Albrighton is playing as winger, holding the width and crossing. Working hard in both directions. Like Weimann did last season.
This season Weimann want to be something he is not, or Lambert wants him to be. One or the other, it doesnt matter cause it doesnt work either way.
-

I thought it was Cresswell
-
We'd actually benefit if Baker got sent off.
-
I think as much as Weimann has been off form, I think for the next few games he's got to be playing for his work-rate alone. Likewise I'd have Kozak instead of Benteke.
-
valencia goes through us as If we are 6 years old
-
didnt realise kozak had come on

Plays shit - drop him.
Plays and runs around - play him for his work rate.
-
No matter how bad Utd are these days, we're still playing them....it's not as if we're losing to Aldershot
I feel so much better , thanks
Oh yes me too! That's a whole bunch better knowing that it is the right of Man Utd to beat us and us not to even look competitive!!
Thank god for that !! I was foolishly expecting we should try in every game!
-
Fundamentally, our problem is that we've got too many players who aren't good enough.
It's not just about Man United, either. Often, we'll be playing poorer sides and still manage to look like a plucky lower division side playing a cup tie against a PL giant.

I'd go with benteke Kozak and albrighton at stoke .

Lambert has definitely been found out at this level, without the confidence of successive promotions that Norwich had he seems clueless as to how he wants us to go about winning a game. We look like a shite Championship team full of graft that's just been promoted.
-
The home form really is dire.
-
Hey Sam theMouse, careful mate, saying things like that about Lambert won't go down to well with a lot of the posters on here
It's true though. His tactics are mystifying. Luna has been torn a new one all afternoon, yet there's been no response of any kind, no attempt to provide him with protection, and he's not been subbed. What does he expect to happen?
-
Well, at least Utd only look like a mid table team....still makes me smile.
-
this is probably how Mandela felt for all those years
-
Rooney off - come on Villa , we can still do this ;)
-

Ah look, the old "No one is allowed to disagree" shtick. Despite the fact that there are loads of people on both sides of the argument and nobody is saying your not allowed to say anything bad about Lambert.
Probably THE most childish stance to take on any forum.
-
If Cleverley scores again I give up. No...no...just...no!

Luna was shit against Ben Arfa and andros townsend too.

I can see Sheffield knocking us out the cup

That's it, I think the younger players from lower league teams and low key foreign players experiment is not proving massively successful.

Yep and again, no action. Lambert doesn't react.

I hope that's the last we ever see of KEA.
-
Oh well. They're a good bunch of lads, eh?

In the premier league there's not much to suggest he's a good manager. Like his players, We're hoping he improves but worried he won't.
-
Christ KEA is slow. He should have got that ball easily.
-

It's no more childish than the 'bed wetters' 'wrist slashing' schtick.
-
Commentator just compared Bacuna with Valencia. That's incredibly kind indeed.
-
17-13 in attempts. In our favor. How they figure that?
-
I just can't stress how important it is that we get vlaar back or get an experienced player in to cover that position. It's just so so important. We've looked like last season's side as soon as he's been injured.
Surely even a loan player would be such an obvious signing. But then it was last winter too
-
Plumbutt Cooper ,give it a rest .You should change your name to Tommy Cooper
-
Losing 3-0 is bad, to make it worse it looks like we're not going to score. A consolation goal would be something but we're not going to get that.
-
C'mon lads let this be of no surprise. I think 60 odd percent of us had it down for a Utd win with numbers of 3,4 and 5 being branded about.
We move on! :o )
-

That's true, there are childish idiots on both sides.
I look forward to seeing them all in the fallout later.
-
The bigger issue now is we go into a period of games close together woefully out of form defending like a pub team and unable to score
-

I'm happy to be a wrist slasher if it means I find it unacceptable that we haven't put together a single good 90 minutes performance in 3 months and possibly only about 5 or so in the last 18. I believe there are numerous managers in the world who could scout and buy a team for £43m that can at the very least do the basics.

Yep , bring on stoke and we can go again :(

Maybe a consolation cross?

Stoke, Palace, Swansea and Sunderland....surely there's a point in there somewhere...isn't there!!!!???

another relegation battle awaits. we need to face facts; this is a piss poor villa side and it will take years to build anything like a half decent side. regretting not appointing martinez. Lamberts project just ain't working
