Any memories of Der Hitz? Goals from distance were his speciality. I cant remember his goal vs Brum with too much fondness as I can never get over what happened at the climax of that match. His goals at Bolton, Pompey and at home vs Leicester were very special.
-
Ah.... heres his goal vs Leicester in the cup.
and a selection of others
who was it he scored against in the league cup and it went in off the underside of the bar? Preston?
-
'Shoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!'
Whenever he got to the halfway line with the ball.
All the best, Tommy.
-
I know he wasn't who Alan Partridge was talking about but he really did have, "a foot like a traction engine".
-
Retires.

I hope he finds a good role within the game if that's what he wants. He was a great pro.
He instilled the same sense of excitement when he got the ball as we experienced when we had Bruce Rioch - as soon as he was in the opposition's half you anticipated a spectacular shot and a spectacular goal.
The goal against Leicester was a belter!
All the best Hitz!
-
Didn't realise he's 31, for some reason thought he was younger.
-
Last minute winner against West Brom. Great moment.
-
Had a good career, good luck in the future Hitz.
-
Great player for us, from 25 yards.
-
I remember his winner away at Pompey, absolute thumper and made the rain feel much better.
-
Last minute winner against West Brom. Great moment.
This was one of my favourite moments at Villa Park ever
-
Ta for the merge, whoever.
-
Good luck to him, left us with some great memories.
Shame he didn't have a bit more to his game, but fuck it, if you can it a ball like that why bother trying anything else.
-
Seems to have decided fighting injury is not for him. Good luck in the future Tommy. Bright lad who loves Birmingham and loves the Villa. I will always remember his goal at the Holte against Blues (think it was the draw that felt like a defeat after being 2-0 up).
-
Retired eh?
.... Der Hammock?

That goal against the rags, we were right in line with the shot.
It was one of the few occasions when the ball was in as soon as you saw who was hitting it.
-
Good luck Hitz. Played for some top clubs and got over 50 senior caps for Germany.
-
Can he not come here as a coach and teach some of our boys how to spank a ball from distance?
-
wondering is he doing coaching coures for UEFA A qualification in Germany. As I could see him working in Villa park with Paul Lambert with Villa and German background.
Good luck Thomas.
-
Also loved his Brummy-German accent.
-
Thomas was our own. The young lad we trained turned into a very good professional. Good luck Thomas for the future.
-
Last minute winner against West Brom. Great moment.
Magical.
-
Also loved his Brummy-German accent.
Yep, had a better Brummie accent than many Brummies.
-
Probably my favourite Villa player**
The current side needs someone who's a regular threat from distance
(** remember, I've only been watching Villa since 1996)
-

Der Hammer was at his best when he just shot on sight and kicked the oppositions best player.
-
31 is quite young to retire. I thought he'd have gone on 2 more years. All the best Hitz Der Hammer

He still had it when he was playing for West Ham a few years back. Remember seeing him interviewed around that time.

Just amazing, lovely feeling in the Holte. He was one of the bright lights in an other-wise pretty rubbish year around the 2002/03 mark.
But seriously, why did Luke Moore ever square that ball to JPA?.....
-
I know he wasn't who Alan Partridge was talking about but he really did have, "a foot like a traction engine".
"A left foot that can open a tin of beans" according to Grecian.
He's far too young to retire but good luck to the chap. Always came across as a friendly fella thankful for his lot. Did he marry his Brummie girlfriend in the end?

the current side scores some of he most incredible goals we've seen in a good while and have banged in some crackers from long range.
-
Probably got himself a role in the Thor franchise.
Good luck, Hitz. And thanks for some spectacular goals.
-
Last minute winner against West Brom. Great moment.
+1
All the better because my Baggie supporting cousin was with me in the Upper Holte. After years of seal jibes it was nice to hear him exclaim "fuck me it's loud up here" during the game!!
-
I didn't realise he got over fifty caps. When it came to the accent he was our version of Jan Molby. My favourite memory was definately the late winner against Albion. I seem to remember that appropriately enough I got hammered after the game.

A couple of great ones from Lowton and a flukey one from Spongey Ron. However, there's no one that the opposition have to panic to close down, thus maybe leaving space behind.
-
The goal against the stripeys, the brummie accent, what's not to love? Good luck Hitz, you'll always be 'one of ours'.
-
Intelligent lad Thomas. Not a chance you will ever find him making a fool of himself through drink or whatever. I am sure we all wish him every success in his future career.
Welcome back to Villa Park anytime.
-
considering he was never consistently that great for us, lets face it he wasn't a Platty or Yorke,
but he crops up as one of many peoples favourite players over the years, especially youngsters of that time, including my own lad, good luck to him, he will always get a good welcome at VP
-
His incredible girlfriend sat in front of us now and again in the family stand. And his goal against Olbeyun, what a day!
-
Did he ever score a scrappy goal? I honestly can't remember. They all seemed to be thunderbolts. I liked Tommy Hitz. Decent player.
-
Any links to the Boggies goal?

if its the game I'm thinking of, early 11.00 kick off? I can't remember much about our goals, but I do remember crystal clear Luke Moore being through on goal and instead of taking the selfish option and blasting it into the roof of the net from the edge of the box, he did the decent thing and squared for angel who was in a slightly better position, who proceeded to blaze high and wide. Always remember that moment with massive disappointment as I think if Moore had scored that chance he would've been an instant holte end hero ( it was in front of the holte too I think) and I honestly think it might have given him the extra bit of confidence and impetus to kick on and be a good forward player for us - like a vassell if you like. I know he probably did the right thing at the time, but I bet he always wonders what if, now looking back at it.

..........and he always celebrated as if he was in a state of bemusement that he'd done what he just did

Apart from the 107mph in the Range Rover for which he would have got a ban had he not needed his licence as he was out of work. Not a complete angel but close enough.
-

Liked his attitude as much as anything.
He didn't lie about why he wanted to leave, didn't say he was considering signing a new contract to keep the fans onside, he just said he wanted to go back to Germany because of his international ambitions.
It's quite rare for a player to be so open and honest with the fans these days.
-
i liked the bit where he wrote articles for an anti-fascist magazine, and then joined lazio.
-
I must admit to never understanding why we all like Hitz so much, he was decent but if he hadn't had a huge, rarely accurate, left boot would we really remember him?
-
And good luck chap. Hope it all goes well for you.

Certainly did.
