Draw tonight! Due to take place shortly after the Leeds - Chelsea tie at Elland Road tonight. All I'm hoping for is the second leg at Villa Park, wouldn't mind avoiding Chelsea and Swansea though.
-
Leeds victory on penalties just to knacker out Chelsea a bit more, plus a couple of red cards wouldn't go amiss. And Bradford in the semi, second leg at VP.
If Carlsberg blah de blah .......
-
I want to play Leeds, mainly because that means Chelsea are out and I'd fancy us to beat any of the other 3 in the semi or the final.
-
I woke up on Friday morning disappointed that we drew swansea as I think they'd do us. Only until later in the day I realised I dreamt it. Still don't want them though.
-
I think Leeds will beat Chelsea but in the semis I would prefer bradford obviously, think maybe I'd prefer Swansea to Leeds as elland road would be a very into intimadating place in a semi.
Villa v Leeds final .
-
We'll draw Bradford and we'll be away in the 2nd leg for a change.
-
I think I want to avoid Bradford, I know it sounds preposterous but the giant killing story is too perfect!
-
prefer leeds to win tonight but don't care that much. Whatever happens though, i hope swansea get knocked out so they don't start bleating about having the welsh national anthem played before the game. Conveniently ignoring that ;a, it's a domestic cup final not an international, and b, the welsh national anthem is god save the queen.
-
We'll draw Bradford and we'll be away in the 2nd leg for a change.
Sounds good to me.
-
I want Leeds away 1st leg. We will get a nice big allocation so I can get a ticket and it is well winnable over two games..
-
Think our name is on the cup this year so therefore I don't care who we draw as we'll do em
-
I want Bradford with a 2nd leg at VP
I'm confident it will be Swansea with a 2nd leg at the Liberty.
-
Bring them on, all of them at once and we will still beat them!
-
Bradford, obviously. I have a feeling that we'll get Swansea though.
-
Got to be real we dont want Chelsea. Anyone at Villa Park in the second leg will do. This is getting exciting .....
-
Over two legs I'll put us up against any team left. Including Chelsea. Let's be honest, they've got higher targets as a club right now and they'll likely rotate a lot more than we might, and frankly they're not as good defensively as they once were. Their midfield is excellent but they have issues up front. I guess we'll find out more this weekend.
-
Chelsea have put an extremely strong side out tonight at Leeds with cech, Torres , mata, luiz, lampard ,Oscar and several other 1st team players , Leeds have left out paddy kenny for the reserve keeper , surprised how strong Chelsea have gone tonight.
-
Chelsea. That way we will win the final.
-
Hopefully Leeds can pull off a shock tonight, and hopefully we get Bradford in the draw
Later
-
I can't believe anyone wouldn't want Bradford! I really think we'll get Swansea though
-

I work with a leeds fan and we watch their highlights on a monday. Paddy Kenny is absolutely awful
-
I hope it is a draw tonight. Followed by extra-time and penalties. Then Leeds to win.

Good. They'll hopefully be knackered when they play us on Sunday.
-
Bradford City for me in the semi-final please.
-
I really want to avoid Chelsea in the semis if they get there- I think we would have more chance of beating them in a one off neutral game than over two legs.
-
Anybody except Chelsea.
-
Chelsea or Leeds. Can't stand another final playing against 12 men.
-
Please let us get Bradford that would make my Christmas better.
-
This is not a hard queston, is it? We want...Bradford-away in the first leg. We'd hate..Chelsea-away in the 2nd leg. We are most likely to get...Swansea-standing the best chance if we are at home in the 2nd leg. Gotta say, it feels like Swansea have fate on their side for their first final.
-
Well, Leeds are really shit, then. And any hopes that Chelsea will feel sluggish on Sunday look unfounded. Game(s) on, Villa!
-
Its going to be Chelsea in the semi for Villa, we all know that.
-
I think we all know who we're going to get now.
-
Anywhere other than SkySports doing coverage of the draw?
-
Fuck it bring on Chelsea!!
-
Anywhere other than SkySports doing coverage of the draw?
not live no..........
-
The word is the draw might not be till after 10pm
-
we are Chelsea's bogey team , they wont want us ...
-
God knows why they piss around with this draw. They have delayed a week as it is
-
dont care as long as we are at home for the 2nd leg
-
So they can get everyone to watch adverts while they wait.
-
The word is the draw might not be till after 10pm
I think TalkSport just said they're doing coverage of it from 10.
-
Please Bradford :-))))))))
-
Anyone...as long as we're drawn 'away'.
-
The word is the draw might not be till after 10pm
Ooh, thanks. Pulling the cork out of the next bottle in the lull!
-
The word is the draw might not be till after 10pm
Anyone else read this in the style of Huggy Bear?
-
Are 5 Live covering it? All they're going on about is some Zambian bloke being better than Messi.
-
Oh bore off and get on with it for fucks sake.
-
Its going to be Swansea
Anyone else dead nervous?
-
I haven't got sky sports, what are they actually doing to spin this out?
-
Are 5 Live covering it? All they're going on about is some Zambian bloke being better than Messi.
I can't believe how much time they gave him (the Zambian bloke)
-
I rather we get Chelsea in the semi instead of losing to them in the final.
-
I haven't got sky sports, what are they actually doing to spin this out?
talking about all the Chelski goals........
-
I rather we get Chelsea in the semi instead of losing to them in the final.
I agree......I'd back us against anyone at a full Villa Park under the lights.
-
I haven't got sky sports, what are they actually doing to spin this out?
I've zoned out, even the bloke controlling stream I'm watching is getting bored and scrolling the channels.
-
I haven't got sky sports, what are they actually doing to spin this out?
Still talking about the game. Pundits not even mentioned the draw !!!
-
Bloody Jamie Redknapp muttering on, get on with it!
-
Its gunna be Bradford
Its gunna be Bradford
Its gunna be Bradford
Its gunna be Bradford
Its gunna be Bradford
-
And now manager interviews. Maybe they've lost their balls in a velvet sack?
-
I haven't got sky sports, what are they actually doing to spin this out?
I've zoned out, even the bloke controlling stream I'm watching is getting bored and scrolling the channels.
Life as a sports fan in 2012 eh? Marvellous.
-
I give up.
-
Jamie redknapp is such a prick
-
Chelsea... second leg at home.
-
This delay is so Roman can decide which tie to buy.
-
Ben Shepherd claiming he can count all the way up to 3 by detailing the other teams in the SF draw.
-
The missing 'tl' is here
-

Over the bloody moon, come on villa don't let us down now
-
Well, turned out nice, eh chaps? If we can get 1-0 there we'll be home and briskly rubbing ourselves down with warm fluffy towels. Villa vs Swansea at Wembley...see you there.

Yeah they done that on purpose, ******
-
best draw we could get,
-
How many tickets will we get ?
-
Absolutely perfect.
Even got home for the second leg. Perfect.
We'll never get a better chance than this.
-
Wemberleee, wemberlee, we are the famous Aston Villa and we are going to Wemberlee!
Get in!
-
Please not Chelsea in the final.
-
Happy with that
-
Perfect, just perfect!
-
That fucker on Sky (Bradford must be delighted with this draw) is as cheeky as all you fuckers.
-
Half season tickets for a Wembley final seat-charge!!!!
Half season tickets won't count.
-
Assuming we beat Bradford, I could live with facing Chelski in the final, and that's assuming they beat Swansea.
-
Bradford v Villa !!!!
...has something of the Tranmere about it...........
They are two divisions below where Tranmere were... If we don't beat them over two legs the players should resign!!
-
We're on the march with Lambert's army!
-
If Heineken did draws....
-
Chelsea away in their 2nd leg, it gets better.
-
Please not Chelsea in the final.
It's guaranteed.
-
Half season tickets for a Wembley final seat-charge!!!!
Half season tickets won't count.
I bet they will soon.
-
Absolutely ideal draw, I cannot wait for the second leg under the floodlights at VP in front of a sell-out crowd. We're the famous Aston Villa and we're going to Wemberlee!
-
Half season tickets for a Wembley final seat-charge!!!!
Half season tickets won't count.
Oh no, tickets arguments already.
-
It's about I've we had some luck.
-
Half season tickets for a Wembley final seat-charge!!!!
Half season tickets won't count.
I think they do.
-
Yessssssss!!
We couldn't have asked for more, it's in our hands now. Over 2 legs we should have enough to get through.
Would fancy Swansea to give Chelsea a run over 2 legs.
-
Any idea when it'll be played?
-
Please not Chelsea in the final.
swansea home and away is not easy
-
Half season tickets for a Wembley final seat-charge!!!!
Half season tickets won't count.
But it will give you a load of 'home games attended' which is the pecking order after Season Ticket holders.
-
Great; glad I've carried forward a days holiday.

With so fewer ST holders than last time, it'll be easier to get tickets.

credit card ready

Why?

Villa have drawn Bradford in the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup.
The other last four clash is Chelsea v Swansea.
Paul Lambert's men will be away at Valley Parade in the first leg which will be played the week beginning January 7 while the second leg at Villa Park will be played week beginning January 21.
The dates and kick-offs to be agreed with Bradford.
Tomorrow, the pricing for the home leg and the allocation for the away leg as well as the on-sale dates for both games will be decided and communicated here on AVFC.co.uk.
Sales criteria for both games will apply.
Priority will be given to season ticket holders, half season ticket holders, box holders and members.
The ticket office will have extended opening hours over the next few weeks for all your ticketing needs - details of which will be communicated soon.
The last time Villa faced Bradford in the competition was in November 1964, the claret and blues running out 7-1 winners on home soil over one leg.
Villa's record in the competition against Bradford stands at played two, won two.

Aren't half season tickets being advertised on the official site as having "Wembley Priority" or something?
-
Any idea when it'll be played?
W/C's 7th and 21st Jan
-
I rather we get Chelsea in the semi instead of losing to them in the final.
That's the spirit. I'm pretty sure we can beat them at any stage.
-
there is no chance I can get to the final , the first I will miss but I will damn do my best for the semi ;)
-
Half season tickets for a Wembley final seat-charge!!!!
Half season tickets won't count.
I think they do.
they did last time and they will this time, it is a great opportunity for the club to pull in extra money

Am I right in thinking that if you don't have a season ticket this season, then it goes straight down to home games attended this season? (excluding all of the cup scheme malarkey)
-
Any idea when it'll be played?
W/C's 7th and 21st Jan
I might be in Dublin for the first leg......
-
Any idea when it'll be played?
Away on week starting 7th, home on 21st.
-
I want Chelsea in the final. We need to exorcise the ghost of 2000.
That said I'll take Swansea too. Delighted with the draw
-
Valley Parade holds just over 25,000.
How many will we get ?
-
Now I know it Xmas ......... best get london hotel booked ....and train asap ...and its being positive not counting chickens !
-
I think Arsenal got 4,500.
-
I think they gave Arsenal about 4000.
-
Jonny, Bradford, via text: "Very glad to get Villa in SF. Bring them on! We beat the Arsenal, we'll beat the Villa! BCAFC!"
Now, now Jonny. Don't get too confident.
Anyone remember our last trip there? Think it was a 3-0 or 4-0 win in Feb '01. Black strip. Merse, Hendrie, Tayles and Vassell having too much quality for them.
-
Valley Parade holds just over 25,000.

Arsenal got 4200.
-
Best possible draw. Bradford with home leg 2nd. Getting excited.....
-
I think Arsenal got 4,500.
That will do. Im ST but havent done any aways this season. If it 3k I wont have a chance.
-

Do it anyway, we're due to play Arsenal that weekend anyway!

the e mail i had from the club says you can but im not savvy enough to cut and paste it
guarantee a league cup final ticket is the tag line
-
Can't wait to see Benteke marauding into those Wembley penalty areas.
-
Train booked - £32 Return First Class Bham - London
-
Train booked - £32 Return First Class Bham - London
Megabus a quid.
-
Couldn't have been a better draw! I think KEA will be on African nations duty for the home game won't he? I know they did brilliantly to beat arsenal but you have to think we'd be better over two legs and our back three should be suited to facing a few high balls. I hope given is if he plays
-
Jonny, Bradford, via text: "Very glad to get Villa in SF. Bring them on! We beat the Arsenal, we'll beat the Villa! BCAFC!"
To quote Theoden from Lord of the Rings:
"Let them come. Within these walls; we shall outlast them."
-
What a great early Christmas present.
-
I want Chelsea in the final. We need to exorcise the ghost of 2000.
That said I'll take Swansea too. Delighted with the draw
Can we please ban talk of the final and concentrate on the semi. Bradford have shown that then shouldn't be taken lightly. They've already knocked out one team of a similar standard to Villa and one that's better.
-
Sales criteria for both games will apply. Priority given to season ticket holders, half season ticket holders, box holders and members.

That's from Villa's twitter account.
So that's the answer re half season ticket holders.

hooray
-
The first leg at Bradford will be very tough and will set the tone for the whole thing. I'd urge caution - if we don't give Bradford our full respect we'll get punished. Feet firmly on the ground and all that...
-
Concentrate on winning the semi first. Whoever we play in the final thereafter I really don't care. A final at Wembley is aone-off game that can go either way. Come on Villa let's just get there, eh?
-

I see no problem with the club exploiting the situation to their benefit in this instance. Sometimes our fans need a prod.

Will the home leg be on the Cup Scheme ?

Not over 2 legs. Villa are the king and queen of fuck up, but this is better than old Wembley days. A great chance for 1st win at new Wembley.
-

Indeed. Apart from all that Cheltenham Town bollocks, you do talk sense.

Yeah, and Arsenal were as good as in the semis, about a week ago.
-
im in the dont count your chickens camp, so when i heard Rodgers comment about aiming for second. if i was the bradford manager i would read out some of these idiotic posts to the team before they play us.
-

Exactly. Let's concentrate on the Semi and see how that goes. Thinking this is a foregone conclusion simply puts huge, unnecessary pressure on our young team. Let's take the match at face value and aim to win it over two legs. It'll be televised and everyone will want to see the underdog win so our mindset - supporters and players - has to be spot on. The Swindon game suggests this will be really tough and Valley Parade will be full and 100% behind their team, baying them on.
Final talk is way, way too premature and a genuine mistake. Let's just focus on winning the Semi for now.
-
This is two legs not 90 minutes and we are not Arsenal.
-
We will do these over two legs, I'm massively confident of that. They've had there BIG game. As long a the players are well drilled we will be fine. Benteke hatrick at Wembly and Stan to lift the cup?? Sounds bloody good to me
-
Any idea when it'll be played?
W/C's 7th and 21st Jan
I might be in Dublin for the first leg......
You need to be in Bradford.
-
While i'm normally cautious I can't help thinking that if we can't beat a division 4 side over 2 legs then we don't deserve to win anything again.
-
Cup football is full of could have should have would have.
i say concentrate on our league form until the new year and when the time come s make sure we are 100% focused.
Yes over 2 games we have to be red hot faves but imagine leaving the first leg 2-0 down. how stupid would we all luck.
I say we should all give bradford the respect that they deserve in reaching the semi final and as long as we do that then the result should take care of its self.
But to assume we will win is the first chink in our armour
-
That fucker on Sky (Bradford must be delighted with this draw) is as cheeky as all you fuckers.
Well they must be delighted because they are paying the most famous club left in the competition.
-
if i was the bradford manager i would read out some of these idiotic posts to the team before they play us.
I'm sure they're players would find it hard to respond to 'the wettest game you've ever been to'.

We are as good as in the final!
Pin that on the dressing room wall Bradford - this is what the Villa supporters think of you!
That's the kind of thinking that simply weighs our players down Aftab. Of course we can win over two legs (we can beat anyone in my view) BUT only if we have the right attitude. If we don't, we'll get knocked out. This will be very tough and we'll need to be totally prepared (as it says on The Badge) and up for it.
-
im in the dont count your chickens camp, so when i heard Rodgers comment about aiming for second. if i was the bradford manager i would read out some of these idiotic posts to the team before they play us.
If you were the Bradford manager you would likely have more important things to do than trawl through another team's unofficial message board looking for inspiration for beating a PL team. And being supremely confident in beating a League 2 team over 2 legs is hardly idiotic.
-

Because being in a semi final won't be enough motivation. He'll also have to tell them the opposition's fans think they'll win.
-
What division were tranmere in when we played them in 1994?

I always assumed our badge was being ironic.

MAGIC
-
What division were tranmere in when we played them in 1994?
Championship / Division 1.
-
The main thing is for Lambert to ensure they are focused, keep their feet on the ground, treat them with respect and we will beat them. Anything short of that leaves us open to a humiliation at least in one of the legs.
-
i say concentrate on our league form until the new year and when the time come s make sure we are 100% focused.
Lambert will be forced to make changes over the Christmas games so everybody should be on their toes.
-
Very happy with this draw.
Yes shouldn't underestimate them but Lambert will know this and we will never have a better opportunity of reaching a Wembley cup final
-

The exciting thing is, although we have had a very up and down season so far, over two legs, even at our worst I'd expect us to beat Bradford. In a final against either Chelsea or Swansea, I'd fancy Lambert to have a fucking good go at winning the tactical battle.
Wembley under MON was great, but let's be honest, the way we set up to play the final and the semi final was no surprise to anyone - it was in no shape whatsoever different to how we'd played the previous tens of matches under him.
-

Ireland away to Cyprus in 2006 is what we will get if we take the opposition lightly Ger. Quietly confident and focused is great. Being supremely confident is asking for trouble and putting unnecessary pressure on ourselves. We've a great young team and they'll be itching to get to Wembley but they need to be level headed and focused. This is a new experience for our lads too and it just might be possible that Bradford have some wise old pro's on their side who will be giving their all for one last shot of career glory. Level heads and the utmost respect for the opposition is what is required here.
-

Agreed - at no stage during that final (penalty included even had Vidic been sent off off) was I ever convinced we would win that game.

Well said.
-
I totally understand the "never underestimate the opposition" thing, but let's be honest, we're playing a League Two side, it's over two legs, and the second leg we are at home.
I think anyone could be forgiven for counting chickens in those circumstances, even us.
-
im in the dont count your chickens camp, so when i heard Rodgers comment about aiming for second. if i was the bradford manager i would read out some of these idiotic posts to the team before they play us.
May be you are a natural pessimist and that's ok however you should refrain from using the term idiotic where posters think that we should see off a fourth tier club over two legs. It's not exactly idiotic.
-
Let's not forget, Westwood is cup-tied and KEA will be away for the second leg.
-
Bradford won at Notts County AET in the cup on 11 August!
-
For all the 'typical of us if...' comments, the only time we have totasly fucked up and lost a semi-final we were expected to win was Bolton in 2006. We very rarely get giant-killed in the later rounds of anything.
-
Happy with the draw but no chickens being counted till we're through. That said I am checking out the cost of flights on aa.com. Worst, worst case scenario I end up going to Arsenal away on the Sat.
Need to win this if only to quieten my Chelski supporting colleague who reminded me last week that they're only 2 trophies behind us in order for them to become the 4th most successful English club. >:(
-
I totally understand the "never underestimate the opposition" thing, but let's be honest, we're playing a League Two side, it's over two legs, and the second leg we are at home.
I think anyone could be forgiven for counting chickens in those circumstances, even us.
And a league 2 side made up of a lot of loan signings. We have to beat these, sure, they will be up for it as you would imagine but over 2 games we should easily have enough to make it comfortably to the final.
-
I want Chelsea in the final.
I didn't look past Bradford. I just stated that I'd be happy with either Chelsea or Swansea in the final.
But seriously though. If a PL side over two legs cannot look after a League Two side then shame on us. Said with all the respect left in my body spared for Bradford, their fans, the football gods, lady luck with her drama and mischief in the cup.
-

And last time I checked Bradford do n't have someone like Okocha playing for them.

We very rarely get to the later rounds of things.
Oldham? Oxford?
-
Pin that on the dressing room wall Bradford - this is what the Villa supporters think of you!
Appreciate what you are saying however there comes a time now and than when we can stop fretting and be totally confident. I had no doubt that we will beat Blackburn in the last semi and I have no doubt we will beat Bradford.
And by the way I doubt it if Bradford team or manager are going to read this and be more motivated. Their motivation level is already sky high.
-
For me it's not a matter of cursing anything, but presuming this will be an easy win is a little disrespectful to Bradford. We don't like it when other teams are like that about us (RAWK before last weekends game), so let's be professional and win the tie before we talk about Wembley.
-

Oldham? Oxford?
Oxford were in the same division IIRC and Oldham had a plastic pitch and it was one leg.

At that time these two were better teams than us.

Gosh, twice in however many years. How dreadful we are.

2004. And even then that was Big Sam's Bolton at their peak with Djorkaeff, Okocha, Nolan etc. We finished 6th and they finished 8th that season.
-
To be fair how many times have we played lower opposition in the later stages of the of cup competitions?
Again an honest question, no snide intended.
-
Chelsea may well be thinking: we'll murder Villa in the final. Let's not think like Chelsea.
-
This had got hall marks of 94 about it. Think they will run us close but we will go to wembley vs the much favoured Chelsea. Que, a 3-1 win with hazard being sent off for handball on the line, with Benteke putting the resulting penalty away. This being, after weimann has out us 1-0 up and then Benteke getting the second.
-
Whoever said Oldham were a better team than us when they beat us in the Cup is having a laugh. We should have won the league that year.
-
To be fair how many times have we played lower opposition in the later stages of the of cup competitions?
Every time. But then again your definition of lower opposition may be different to mine.
-
Dream draw.
-
Its a great draw for us, likewise I'm sure Bradford wanted to play either us or Swansea so they will have a chance of Wembley so they'll be happy too.
If its like previous years sure one leg will be live on Sky and the other live on BBC - hopefully they will see sense and put the Valley Parade leg on the beeb to open it up to more fans to see.....though we all know logic dosent go through the tv schedules :-)
-
Chelsea may well be thinking: we'll murder Villa in the final. Let's not think like Chelsea.
Chelsea might not even make it to the final. I think Benitez said they've played 8 games in 24 days and they still have the Christmas games ahead of them. They should be knackered by the time the first leg comes around and then going to Swansea for the second leg won't be easy.
-
I am so fucking excited. The first leg is going to be a great day/night out.
-
The Bradford view
"Perfect draw IMO that."
"yessssss great ground to visit and a real chance of a final if we can get a positive result at home."
"Can't see it over two games. I'd love to, but I can't. They'll have too much quality, and more importantly, unlike Arsenal, the bottle for the fight. Should be a great occasion all the same though"
"Doable"
"Personally think we got the best draw and stand a chance of getting into the final"
"Perfect draw and being at home 1st leg means we will still be in it for the trip to villa park"
-
Has anybody told them they're three divisions below us for a reason?
-
And I would be more than happy to get the same result as Arsenal at Valley Parade.
-
The fact that it is over two legs takes a lot of the potential for a shock out of the tie. I expect there could be scenes like this at the 2nd leg:
Had a phone call from someone at the ticket office this afternoon trying to sell me a half-season ticket and he trotted out a line about it guaranteeing a ticket should we get to the final.
-
We will do these over two legs, I'm massively confident of that. They've had there BIG game. As long a the players are well drilled we will be fine. Benteke hatrick at Wembly and Stan to lift the cup?? Sounds bloody good to me
Thats a great shout about Petrov would make a lovely story
-
And also
"FUCK FUCK FUCK!
I'll miss the home leg. I could cry.
Good draw though. Whilst we'll be long shots, Villa are probably the weakest of the 3 premiership sides. We'll sell out and I think they might as well, cos they'll smell a high probability of qualifying for Wembley and it's years since they won anything."
"That's the draw I wanted, we're still massive underdogs but it's far from impossible."
"No point in even playing it if you look on the Villa Twitter feed! They are already planning Wembley (just like Blackpool did)."
"We are underdogs, that's correct, and I can't help but smirk at everyone writing us off, of course they should beat us we are league 2 , they are premiere league, I am sure arsenal, and Wigan thought the same, I remember when we went up with kamara no one gave us a look in or a mention, I for one prefer it this way ,"
"Never been to Villa, looking forward to it (so long as the tie isnt over after the home leg!). They have a low key manager and low key squad, which perhaps isnt ideal, but at least the class differential isnt as big as versus Arsenal. Thinking about it, it was our best chance of taking a big away following, its closer than South Wales or Chelsea...so thats good. And their support is good given their past and they should bring a good number up here.
Bring on the Villa....."
"The draw i wanted and good to be home first too, although i wasnt too fussed either way. We are again underdogs but we can beat them and no disrespect to villa who will no doubt tonk us now, but they seem the most beatable.
Been to villa and we should get plenty of tickets, not sure about 6k, as it is a big old school stadium. Should be a terrific atmosphere if we can stay in the tie and a great trip for city fans."
"Glad we're at home first, I'd rather try get another cheeky result in the first leg and have something to defend in the second as opposed to the other way round - financially it's better that way too. Villa were who I wanted coming out of VP last week but they've hit a bit of form as of late and Benteke looks a monster (a lot better than Gervinho anyway haha). Can't believe I'm talking like this when in reality I was just chuffed to beat Watford away! I believe!!"
"Its a great draw.
Villa are shit. Yes they've picked up of late but out of the 3 PL sides that were left, Villa are the worst.
Home leg 1st and no matter who we would of played I feel we needed to take a lead into our next match and playing at home 1st gives us that chance. VP will be bouncing.
Away leg - its only 2 hours. We will full it.
Both legs are on tv with set amounts going to all clubs - so its win, win.
We've a chance here- BELIEVE!!"
"Win 1-0 at home and we'll take 10k I'm sure... lose at home and it wont be many"
"I wanted us to be at home first because I want a full house and big occasion at Valley Parade, last week was special and the first leg of the semi will be too.
Let's be realistic - we could quite easily get spanked 4 or 5 nil by Villa at home, they went to Norwich and did that, but even if that does happen at least we'll have had that night at VP again - if we'd been drawn away first and been thrashed there the return would be a massive anti-climax."
In a response to a Villa on there saying some were already booking time off etc
"Let them book.
Villa will lose to Chelsea in the final anyway.
Could end up like Birmingham and go down. So them fans booking better realise that really Villa are now a shit PL team with a lot to worry about. "
-
And finally
"Haha love the optimism on this thread, when the reality is that beating Villa over two legs will be a literal miracle! I would fancy us in a one off at home. One thing or sure is, they will be a lot tougher than Arsenal were and nowhere near as soft!"
"Villa are a rapidly improving side and will see this as a wide open opportunity to get to the final. However, they are a a side in transition and have several players who have stepped up the leagues. Just like the Arsenal game if this tie was played 100 times Villa would win 99 of them, we have to hope, just like Arsenal, that the home leg is the 1 in a 100 and then we go to the other VP and do a Wigan.
Chelsea would have been fun because of their terrible record at VP and the fact that they are the Champions League holders. But Villa are one of the great historic sides of football, Brum is a fairly easy travel (in comparison to Swansea) and they will fill the Midland Road. Bring it on."
And finally finally, these words of wisdom from Villa fan Congo Waring
"Think this is a very hard draw for us and we'll do well to beat you. Good luck."
-
The Bradford fans don't seem to be allowing for the fact that it's over 2 legs and we're at home in the second leg. If it had been the other way round, maybe they could have made the Villa Park game tricky come away with a draw and make the second leg a real cup tie. As it is, the second leg will be an absolute cauldron and if we are behind, we have a history of turning it around over 2 legs (Tranmere in '94 comes to mind).
-
I can't believe after the season we're having some folks are already thinking we've reached the final.
One job at a time and all that
-
Can't argue with much of what's being said. I'm sure if we'd drawn Chelsea tonight and saw their fans talking about booking time off for the final we'd be saying the same.
Over two legs we have absolutely no excuse for not going through, but I'm not counting any chickens.
-
They have a VP too hehe.
-

The difference is we're in the same division as Chelsea and have got a fair few results against them in recent years. Bradford are a division 4 club. If we as fans can't expect to beat them over 2 legs who can we expect to beat?
-
Chelsea may well be thinking: we'll murder Villa in the final. Let's not think like Chelsea.
No one on here has said we will murder Bradford in the semi. People are just confident that we will beat them over two legs.
-

I'm not saying we shouldn't be confident. I'm very confident myself. I'm just saying that I can understand the Bradford fans' reactions to seeing comments from Villa fans as if we're already in the final.
-
I was at the Chester semi in 1975 ( I think they were Division 4) and having drawn away 2-2 we took a 2-0 lead at home, and fans were wanking all the way to Wembley.
Chester got back to 2-2 and we went through unassisted fucking childbirth to beat them 3-2,Keith Leonard delivering the goods if I recall correctly. I bet there are a fe w twists and turns yet.
With the right attitude we will be fine, but only if, and I think we have the right manager for that.
-
We should get through without too much trouble over two legs but that doesn't mean we should be arrogant and dismissive of Bradford. They're in the semi finals on merit
and deserve all due respect for getting so far.
I'm sure in 1971 Man Utd, a team that included Charlton and George Best and finished I believe as league runners up that season, thought they were through when they drew a third division
side in the semi finals. We should have the sense and class to have confidence without being arrogant about it.
-
With it being two legged, and the return at our place this should be a comfortable victory. And i am/we are all overly confident of this.
Ive also seen comments about booking trains and hotels for the final, this may be a bit premature but who can blame them :D
UTFV!
We deserve this
-
Hotel booked
-
Lot of respect for Bradford obviously. But looking forward to the games and this could be a shot at Wembley! Awesome.
-
Lets not fuck around in this semi final... GUZAN in goal for both legs please. Gutted for cup tied Westwood tbh. Lets get to Wembo to make sure of a great weekend down in London.
-
This is probably the best chance we'll get of silverware for years. We should win the semi. Nothings ever set in football of course, but perhaps Bradford have knocked out one big gun too many now.
Then I'd fancy any of the others in the final, even Chelsea. They're struggling under Benitez. The players don't want him there, nor the fans. I'd like to think our names etched on the cup. Then again, Swansea might rightly feel the same.
There's the possibility though that Rafa has a good january window and freshens his team. But in all honesty, I think he's been a busted flush since Ferguson warped his brain.
-
With all disrespect to Bradford, we're going to Wembley and no mistake. Great draw.
-
Bradford will give us a really tough game at valley parade but I expect to get at least a draw and beat them at villa park.
I would hate to lose to Chelsea again after the last time but I think we would go into it with a chance , much prefer Swansea though.
Either way we would be one win away from Europe and the long wait for silverware and lambert would be a hero and have a solid base to build the team forwards- here's hoping.
-
If we get past Bradford I'd love to beat Chelsea in the final.
-
We'll piss the semis.
-
The dream draw. Being away in the first leg means they won't sit back, but will attack us, meaning we have the opportunity like last weekend to pick them off on the break. I think (and hope) that the second leg will be somewhat academic as we would have won the first leg away.
-
That fucker on Sky (Bradford must be delighted with this draw) is as cheeky as all you fuckers.
Well they must be delighted because they are paying the most famous club left in the competition.
And the weakest of the three teams that they could of drawn. Therefore Bradford have every reason to be pleased
-
Lower placed, yes. Weakest, no.
-
If we don't win this it'll be a disaster. I've got that Wembley feeling.
-
If we get past Bradford I'd love to beat Chelsea in the final.
No point turning up according to TalkSport,Chelsea have already won it
-
The Gods are smiling on us.
Bradford!!!!!!
It's virtually a gimme to Wembley.
-
It's also worth remembering that even when we were arse wipingly bad under McLeish, we still managed to comfortably beat League 2 side Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup.
I expect a confortable 2-0 win at their place and then we can rest a few players for the home leg.
-
1-1 at Valley Parade - anyone know when on sale an how many tickets we will get
3-1 at Villa Park.
Totally buzzing after the draw.
-
December 1970: Villa from the 3rd Division beat a ManUre side full of (admittedly fading) international stars.
Since then, I've always been very wary of writing off the underdog.
My only regret is that, with Valley Parade a mere 12 miles away from my home, I'll be away during January.
I'd have preferred Chelsea over 2 legs, frankly. But there you go; I thought Leeds would have turned them over.
-
We're way, way better than they are in every department.
They'll also have never come across anybody like Benteke before.
Nor will they be able to deal with the speed of our counter attacks.
Sit back and enjoy.
-
We're Aston Villa, doing things the hard way is what we do. I am not counting any chickens.
-
While i'm normally cautious I can't help thinking that if we can't beat a division 4 side over 2 legs then we don't deserve to win anything again.
This a million times over.
-
When Swansea was drawn it was like Christmas had come early. Don't fcuk this up Villa. UTV.
-
Perfect draw, very happy.
-
Happy here too!
-
1-1 at Valley Parade - anyone know when on sale an how many tickets we will get
3-1 at Villa Park.

Arsenal got about 4,500!
-
Great draw for us. I know we are happy with the draw, but I reckon Bradford are too. Will be a tricky one, they will genuinely think they have a chance against us with our iffy results up until the last month. If we can keep some semblance of form in the league and confidence is high going into these games then we'll have too much for them. If we revert to our form earlier in the season and doubt starts creeping in then a motivated and confident Bradford could give us a lot of problems and who knows where that will end up.
No game is a banker when you are Villa.
-

I'd already booked my train to London that weekend. Was doing Arsenal away, and staying at my friend who's a Spurs fan and going to West Ham/Spurs. £22 return from Manchester so I'm rather happy!
-
We should be capable of beating Bradford over two legs. In fact the gods have favoured us. Swansea are at home in their second leg so if they can put in a decent performance at Stamford Bridge they too have a chance.
Hopefully Darren Bent will be fit to add goalpower (perhaps off the bench) if required. And if we are very lucky Frank Lampard may have moved on before Swansea play Chealsea as Rafa has intimated he may go before the end of the season.
All in all it couldnt have worked out any better. Its up to the players to perform as they can and we might win the League cup for a sixth time.
-
According to their forums they're delighted.
-
Will be my first trip back to Valley Parade since 1987, blimey was that 4-2 win really 26 years ago !!
-
trying to decide wether to go or not as it seems a long way from Cambridge....
a good draw, but to be honest I would of taken any of the others, Bradford over the two legs ?? we should get through.

Mine too. Doesn't time fly?
That was one of my all time favourite away days because they were flying at the top of the league then and everyone thought we would get beat. The two Gray's made their debuts though and we beat them more comfortably even than 4-2 suggests, because it was only Steve Sims playing at being a goalkeeper that gave them two pens to keep em in it. Think our front three was Aspinall, Thompson and Rambo wasn't it?
-
Whoever said Oldham were a better team than us when they beat us in the Cup is having a laugh. We should have won the league that year.
stop talking about that oldham game , one of the worse games I have ever been too. ;/

i was there at that one . How time flies and Keith Leonard used to play footy with my dad under Arthur Cox , met him when Gary sprake was in hospital , great bloke .

According to their forums they're delighted.
Good for them. If they're so fucking clever how come they aren't twenty points clear at the top of division four?

The semi will be all over after one leg. Villa 3 -0 at Bradford
-
According to their forums they're delighted.
Of course they are. They're playing the most illustrious club in the country. And they'll get to vsit Villa Park regardless.
It's a treat for them.
Unfortunately they are going to get smashed on the pitch but I'm sure they'll have a good day out.
No chance of Lambert taking this lightly or being complacent and we're not Arsenal going through a sticky patch and lacking confidence.
Bradford are the only thing standing between a pride of young Lions and their prey.
Poor Bradford.

It was indeed , I remember Bruno heading in a beauty in front of us and we climbed up the fencing to celebrate. Brilliant game .

I could understand their excitement if the draw had been a few weeks back, as we were still VILLA IN CRISIS (insert torn Villa badge here) back then. Quite a different story now though.
We won't take anyone lightly and will have more than enough for these over two legs.
-
The last time I went to a Villa Bradford game, Lee Sharpe was still on their books!
Dublin scored a penalty. Think Carbone was there too.

People from the outside still view us as mediocre . The win over Liverpool is seen in very much the same way as when Wigan turn over a big club or Bolton do. We are below Swansea and Chelsea in the league so Bradford will see this as the easiest tie for them.
-

In some quarters, maybe, but I was pleasantly surprised by how complimentary (i.e. not particularly patronising) they were on the Guardian podcast (as discussed on another thread).
-
I doubt very much many in Bradford read or share the views of The Guardian to be fair.
-
I would have liked Chelsea but hey ho that'll do

Got a feeling it could well end up Villa v Swansea at Wembley which could be an absolute stonker of a game .

Funny to think we we were all there that day and now here we are 25 years later together on here! I lived in Harrogate at the time but was working in Derbyshire. Took my brother in law who is a big Derby fan though now a season ticket holder at Exeter as he lives down there. That was one of my favourite seasons following the Villa away - Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield Utd, Barnsley...
-
I think we should be respectful to Bradford, and fair play to them for reaching the semi.
BUT, there is no reason why we should not be bullish about this tie, and expect to beat them comfortably.

Can someone explain to me why some people on here would have preferred us to draw the champions of europe rather than a team who are in division 4, i really dont understand that logic at all.
Great draw, cautiously optimistic for a return to wembley.
-
Our stock is rising...I like this small quotathon from one of their boards
why do more people want Aston Villa than Chelsea, IMO Villa is the worst draw possible, i know AV are worse than chelsea but still i would much prefer chelsea
Swansea are surely the worst. Worst fan base, far to travel, probs wont bring much to vp or sell seats
Most winnable game bud. Villa is not remotely winnable.

For a minute I couldn't work out why a Bradford City fan was bothered about Swansea not bringing many fans to Villa Park, before I realised vp=Valley Parade

Valley Parade is a quirky old place. It's kind of hanging off the edge of a cliff (or valley)

Think our front three was Aspinall, Thompson and Rambo wasn't it?
It was indeed , I remember Bruno heading in a beauty in front of us and we climbed up the fencing to celebrate. Brilliant game .
Mine too, we seemed to be in Yorkshire every 4th week.
The main quirky thing about that game I remember is we kicked off and about 3 mins in we had a throw in level with their penalty area at the far end. Andy Gray trotted over to take it, by the small stand on the right, ran forward and launched a missile into their box. There was a collective and audible "Fooooooooookin hell" from the Villa end. These days everyone has long throw experts, but that was the first I can remember the Villa having.
I don't think Andy Gray scored that day Richard, Stuart got two and got all the plaudits but I reckoned Andy had the better game. Bruno got one and I can't remember the other, but pretty sure it wasn't Andy Gray.
Happy days!!!
-
I am sure you are right Dave, one of Stuart's was a belter up our end, I was right behind it as it went into the net. I also remember Birchy's superb lobbed goal at Barnsley in the rain in a 3-0 win but we are now probably getting into 'Memories thread' territory so apologies!
-
Birch got the other goal at Bradford.

was that the one he bent in to the top corner with the inside of his right boot ?

I can barely remember the last paragraph of the book I am reading most days and this was one of those games when it was almost impossible to see because of us being jammed in behind fences and there being so many Villa fans there in a tiny away end. I recall being absolutely engulfed with bodies every time we scored. One of those perfect away days! Also I think it was one of those away ends where the front of the end was slightly below pitch level
-
I remember th home game late in the season was a bit of a nervy affair and the relief of platts winner was huge, good times are back at the villa with surely a Wembley trip and that would mean one game from a cup and Europe - not a bad position to be in as we approach Xmas and a young vibrant hungry team which looks better as the season goes.

Breaking news Bradford City cup dates confirmed
The dates for City's Capital One Cup semi-final legs against Aston Villa have been finalised this morning.
The first game at Valley Parade will take place on Tuesday, January 8 with the Villa Park return on Tuesday, January 22.
-
Am I right in thinking sky will show both legs live of each semi?
-
Both Andy & Stuart Gray both scored at Bradford in 87 in the 4-2 win, Bruno got one and possibly Lillis ?
-
Both Andy & Stuart Gray both scored at Bradford in 87 in the 4-2 win, Bruno got one and possibly Lillis ?
Stuart got 2, Bruno and Birch.
-
Will kea be away for both semi finals ? Also with Westwood out , if we signed someone in January who isn't cup tied i think they will they be eligible to play in the semi or final .

Stuart got 2, Bruno and Birch.
Andy Gray scored for sure. It was a daisy cutter from 25 yards
-
Not at Bradford, are you thinking of the 5-0 at Hull?
-
No he definitely scored at Bradford the first goal .
Stuart Gray later scores a free kick curler
-
Valley Parade is a quirky old place. It's kind of hanging off the edge of a cliff (or valley)
It is odd. I went there about 10 years ago and it has two massive stands on one side with the corner filled in and two tiny ones on the other. It looks like they started rebuilding the ground and then ran out of money half way through.
-
According to their forums they're delighted.
Good for them. If they're so fucking clever how come they aren't twenty points clear at the top of division four?
Well, they're full of shit quite frankly.
They would have said that if they had been paired with Swansea or Chelsea.

Not having it. The 2 debutants both scored that day
-
On 11v11.com it has Andy Gray down with 2, that's incorrect too.
Andy Gray opened the scoring. Stuart Gray later curled a beauty in.
-
Part of the reason why we are struggling to remember who scored the Villa goals is that you could not actually see the goalmouth at the away end unless you were stood right at the front. I didn't see half our goals until I got home and saw them on telly.
Steve Sims did a completely unnecessary kamikaze handball for one of their goals.
-
Andy Gray scored down the other end so had clear view of that
Sims handled x 2 for two pens
-
Andy Gray scored down the other end so had clear view of that
Sims handled x 2 for two pens
I can assure you he did not. The goalscorers, as stated, were Stuart Gray with two, Thompson and Birchy. It was Stuart Gray up the other end with a daisy cutter. Andy Gray also scored a daisy cutter from 25 yds vs Hull at Villa Park on New Years Day 1988 and then another goal at Leeds in the Cup just over a week later. That was all he scored for Villa that season.
-
The games was memorable as BOTH debutants scored .
-
Only one way to settle this -Calling Harry hill to the thread!
-
The one Sims handball was very harsh as it seemed to hit his chest. For the other one he put his arm up and hit it for no apparent reason as it was sailing over his head. It was my first away game outside of the immediate area and it was a great win as they were top of the Division at the time, it was when I started to believe we were on the way back.

No they didn't.

Sums them up really, from a Bradford forum. And really, half of Birmingham?
A Birmingham fan in peace
by BCFCBlue » Thu Dec 20, 2012 12:15 pm
You've drawn the scurvy-ridden, 6-toed inbreds from the north of Birmingham in the League Cup semi.
Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please stop them getting to Wembley.
Just to let you know, half of Birmingham will be praying for you to absolutely batter them.
Good luck.
PS. Do you think you have any chance of actually beating them?
-
Half of Birmingham... love it.
More like less than a tenth of Birmingham with more Man Utd fans in this city than dogshitters.
Predictably sad from those worthless scumbags though.
-
When we win the second leg, I want to re-inact carrying Garry Thompson off the pitch like I did on Easter Monday '88 if it can be arranged?
-
The reason I wanted Cheski was because I'd rather get knocked out in the semi than face more Wembley heartache against them.
-
The reason I wanted Cheski was because I'd rather get knocked out in the semi than face more Wembley heartache against them.
I think we have more chance of beating them on a one off neutral game than over two legs but I expect them to put out their strongest team- I agree defeat at Wembley to them would leave a bitter taste but victory would be so sweet and apt revenge for 2000.
-
Am I right in thinking sky will show both legs live of each semi?
Yes. Correct. All four matches on Sky

Not really, because were due to play Arsenal that weekend anyway. It's called covering all options

I got the draw I wanted I said on here the other day I wanted Bradford let's hope we can beat them now.

Is it arrogance and disrespect to plan for a victory over two legs against a fourth division side? I don't think so

90% of people booking these hotels would not have been attending Arsenal away.

I think it would be an apology for 2000 we were so bad that day.

Sorry, should have read first time we'd won it for 17 years. Obviously we won some rounds in between.

Look i'm not trying put a dampener on anything, i along with every villa fan is delighted with the draw and do believe we will make it through, however i am a very superstitious fan and booking hotels is asking for a jinx!! Dont get me wrong If we are 2 goals up after the first leg then i will have booked a hotel as close to the Green Man pub as possible
-

Given the allocation we would get at Arsenal in the league compared to a League Cup final Wembley (should we get there), I'd say your maths is pretty accurate.

Let them book, its their choice, I'm half tempted to myself because even if I don't get a ticket for the final, I'll take a trip down for it should we win.
Lets be honest, and no disrespect to Bradford here, but we really should be beating these, particularly over two legs

What date is the final?

Sunday 24th Feb I believe...

We're going to win the fucker this season. It's fate I tells ya!

No they didn't.
We will have to disagree then as I can confirm the goals that day came from Andy Gray, Stuart Gray, Paul Birch (RIP) & Gary Thompson
Ron Futcher x 2 pens for them

The game is indeed 24th Feb but if it is Chelsea in the final they have the 2nd leg of their Europa League tie at home v Sparta Prague on the 21st.

Lil'Lee might be able to give Lambo's men the lowdown on some of the Bradford players.

Can't see the FA putting the League Cup Final back for Chelsea. Its not as if they have far to travel.

We beat Tranmere in '94, Norwich in '75, and Man City in '77 on the road to League Cup glory.

Why would they? It's on a Sunday anyway.

One of my Chelsea supporting mates pointed out the fact that Chelsea will almost certainly qualify for the Champions League again, so should they make the final along with Villa, win or lose we'll have European football again at Villa Park next season, unimaginable this time last year, unimaginable a month ago to be honest.
-
I dont think thats how it works mate, it goes to the next highest league placed team, not the runner up of the cup.
I would love to be wrong of course.

Only applies to the FA Cup I think, only qualified in '10 as we finished 6th, not runners-up to Man U
-
If Chelsea were to win it and qualify for Europe via the league then it means an extra European place in the league. League Cup losers don't qualify for Europe.
-
Yep to qualify for Europe we would have to win the league cup.
-
Lets win it then.
-
I'm not sure what to make of Europa League football.
Lots of Thursday and Sunday games to navigate

I wouldnt worry to much about it, we will probably draw Rapid Vienna in the qualifying round and get knocked out on away goals!
-
League Cup runners up DO NOT qualify for Europe.
http://www.premierleague.com/content/premierleague/en-gb/fans/faqs/who-qualifies-to-play-in-europe.html
There are three places in the UEFA Europa League available: the FA Cup winners will enter at the Group Stage; the fifth place team in the Barclays Premier League will enter at the Play-Off stage; and the Football League Cup winners will enter at the Q3 stage.
In the event the FA Cup winners are qualified for the UEFA Champions League the FA Cup runners-up will qualify, but in the place reserved for the lowest ranking Barclays Premier League representative. The place with direct access to the Group Stage will be given to the club that finishes in the highest position in the Barclays Premier League of the clubs qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.
English winners of the UEFA Europa League will enter at the Group Stage, gaining an extra domestic place only if they fail to qualify through other means for the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League. If the holders of the UEFA Europa League have already qualified for Europe, no extra domestic place will be gained.
Should the FA Cup winners, runners-up (if applicable) and the Football League Cup winners already have qualified for Europe, their place goes to the next best placed clubs in the Premier League.

prefer leeds to win tonight but don't care that much. Whatever happens though, i hope swansea get knocked out so they don't start bleating about having the welsh national anthem played before the game. Conveniently ignoring that ;a, it's a domestic cup final not an international, and b, the welsh national anthem is god save the queen.
Your point B is utter crap, fella, sorry!
Let's just agree on having Villa in the final against whoever else eh? And Villa winning of course!

Stuart got 2, Bruno and Birch.

Can't see the FA putting the League Cup Final back for Chelsea. Its not as if they have far to travel.
FA have nothing to do with the League cup organisation. It's the League. In any case Chelsea will still have to play a PL game on Sunday if they don't reach the final so I see no reason for shifting.
-
I'm not sure what to make of Europa League football.
Lots of Thursday and Sunday games to navigate
I'd absolutely love to see Villa back in Europe.
Me too but I'd rather not be in the Europa. Its just a fucking mess.
However that's where we learn to play European football. We need to walk before we can fly and I do miss Europe.
-
I would absolutely LOVE to be in the Europa League. Would be brilliant.
-
So will Bradford only have the normal Premier League allocation for the 2nd leg as seems a tad unfair on them ?
-
Me too, the group stages are a bit of a shambles and I think the games should be played on a Tuesday/Wednesday, but once you get into the KO stages it livens up a bit. We're the only country in Europe that looks down on it and I don't understand why that is.
-
When do you think we will sell out for the away leg by?
Bradford have got more than the premier allocation, they have got the north stand upper aswell
-
So will Bradford only have the normal Premier League allocation for the 2nd leg as seems a tad unfair on them ?
They have the North Upper which is 3500ish and I think they'll have part of the upper Doug Ellis stand which is about 5500.
-
Thanks I just read further down the info from Villa to realise that as a North Stand Upper person I have to relocate !
-
Maybe I'm being thicker than normal but its still not clear to me whether the home game is included in the "Cup Scheme"
-
It is.

On the pitch, on the pitch, on the pitch!!

35 I think - awesome atmosphere though

36k, best crowd in the division that season. We also had 48k v Liverpool in the Cup.
-
I'm wondering whether to go to the away leg in Bradford. I'd like to but it's a long way from Reading and I'll be doing my dryathlon then.

0-2 Barnes diving header ?, we gave it a good go

It's a long way from Brum mate, so fair play if you do.
You can get £19 rooms at the Premier Inn in the town centre on certain days if you book early (I'm staying next week), but the place is a shithole's shithole.
-
I'd like to get to one or other of the semis. The home game against Tranmere remains my favourite Villa experience ever. I love the League Cup.
-

Yeah, the biggest crowd I've been in at the Villa, scarily packed, stood behind the exit on the left.
I've only stood on the left twice, that game and the Leeds game the same season, both all ticket games.
It was shit. The right was where it was at.
-
Bradford ticket info
The prices for this match will be:
Adults: £29
Concessions: £25
Juniors: £15
Concessions at Villa Park consist of over 65s, full time students, under 21s and members of the Armed Forces with current ID.
The club have been given an allocation of 6,375 for the Villa Park tie.
Looks like they do have part of the Doug Ellis then, thats a lot of tickets...

We have also restricted Ipswich in the FA cup. They were given 2900 and are sold out. Apparently no more available from Villa which is surprising as we a closing half the ground due to anticipated low crowd.

Closing half the ground ? Thought it was just Trinity Upper ?

Me too but I'd rather not be in the Europa. Its just a fucking mess.
I wouldn't mind being in the Europa, Granted it's a bit of a nightmare with having to play on thursdays in somewhere like Ukraine or Estonia but it's still European football and we're not getting in the champions league anytime soon.
I miss European nights at Villa park and once out of the group stage who might end up with a decent draw against a decent team.
The other good thing is that Lambert will take it seriously unlike O'Neill.
-
Some talk Europa will be disbanded and merged with Champs League, not sure from which season though. Would help raise the profile of the cups again if the winners get in the Champs League and stop many teams playing weakened teams in these comps so might not be a bad idea.
-
Ticket, train and hotel all booked. Bradford here we come!
When you book your away ticket, they let you reserve your seat for the home leg too, rather than waiting till your official slot
-
Tickets sorted. Just need to find a suitable pub.
-
Have been told that Arsenal donated all/some (not sure which) of their gate receipts at Bradford to the Bradford Burns Unit. If correct I think it was a noble gesture.
-

That'll be tricky most of the decent boozers have shut down around here!

-
Can't get my ticket until tomorrow as i've only been to two previous rounds.
Last time i went up there we drew 1-1, Merson scoring for us i think. I think the ground has changed it's name 6 times since then.

We're selling them for the other areas Ipswich could have, they turned down the chance of more and we're only closing the Upper Trinity. Do get your facts right, lad.

According to an Ipswich fan I know we offered them an amount on sale or return and then asked them if they wanted more but they had to buy them.
Ipswich declined to buy the extra qty as they were unsure of the demand, then sold all there allocation really quick and when they went back to us and asked for more we told them no.
Not sure if its accurate but thats what they are saying

Paul Lambert doesn't want cup fever to affect the main focus of climbing the table.
Lambert is obviously delighted to see his side in the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup but insists now is not the time for excitement levels to rise, with a tough top-flight programme on the horizon.
He knows it will be "two hard games" but accepts his team have a chance to reach the showpiece if they "do the right things" and fend of complacency.
He said: "The lads will know themselves. They don't need me to stand there and say 'it's a great opportunity'.
"It will be two very tough games but we have chance to go through.
"It's two hard matches. People look at it and think 'over two games we should get through' but cup football?
"I remember playing Chelsea with Wycombe and we drew 1-1 at Adams Park. We kept the tie alive. You never underestimate it.
"We've got a chance. The cup game will take care of itself. What's going to happen, it will happen.
"It's further down the line and I'm not really thinking about it.
"It's an old cliché that whoever you get will be hard. It's a semi-final over two legs. It didn't matter if it was Bradford, Swansea or Chelsea. We've earned the right to try to get through.
"The fans are right behind us. The support at Norwich was frightening and ferocious. But I know that because of the tradition of the club and history.
"They will go to Bradford in their thousands and then ram Villa Park. They have been brilliant with me.
"If we do what we've been doing of late and do the right things and not be complacent, we've got a really good chance."
Lambert also dismissed suggestions that a cup final appearance would be tremendous for him personally in his first season in charge, insisting: "It's not about me."
He added: "I always think it's never about myself - it's about the team and the people who come to watch.
"I never put great significance on myself getting to a final. My time is all done. I can't win anything anymore as a player so it's about the team.
"I never look at myself as important. Myself is not an issue. The team and the fans are the most important."

That seems to bethe norm in cup games. We were given the same criteria at Arsenal last season. We could have had the extra, but we had to pay for them with no return, hence why we only had just over 5k.

29 quid for the home leg a week before the payday after Christmas, on telly and midweek? That's a bit sharp!
Not for a cup SF surely ?
Same price as it was for the Blackburn semi, 3 yrs ago so can complain too much.
-
I understand the clamour for European football, I'm on board with it too, but the Europa league really is a crap format and a complete poison chalice.
Wish it was just 64 teams in a straight 2 leg knockout format. UEFA really have made a dogs breakfast of the old UEFA cup .

I think they could have made it slightly cheaper for ST holders maybe. Some may be tempted to watch it on the tellybox knowing they'll have no problem getting a ticket for Wembley should we get there.

I reckon we'll still get a better crowd than the average league game this season so you could argue £29 is actually cheap.
-
£29 for a SF is not unreasonable
They could easily have gone £40, then you'd have a legit reason to throw a fit
-
Cannot believe Ill be in feckin Austria on a works do when the 2nd leg is on. Anyone know any boozers in Vienna I can go to to watch it.

I think a lot will depend on the 1st leg score- if we win by 3 goals I think we will be home and dry and with the 2nd leg on tv some would stay away if the tie was basically already dead and buried.

It's a terrible format. Completely agree, get rid of the group stage and make it a straight knockout!

Conversely some will want to be there to celebrate/build up their chances of a final ticket.

The vast majority I would imagine dave.

The more comfortable we are after the first leg, the better as far as I'm concerned.
The best possible scenario is a ninety-minute 'Wembley Here We Come' party.

Free flags for the home leg.

Been checking into flights home for the final, but I imagine I'll be hard pushed to get a couple of tickets. In all fairness I hope those of you who have had to endure being there and watching some of the drivel on display in the past two years all get to go and have a top time. Though if I can get a hold of tickets I'll bite the hand off.
-
I have a contact number for someone who might be able to help you out should we get there, but it will be expensive as he deals exclusively with corporate hospitality. PM me if interested.

Better off buying a half season ticket selling all the home games on viagogo (sp) and a guaranteed ticket regardless of attendance
-
I had a call off the club yesterday reminding me about Vigagogo and she told me you can 'name the price' now on adult tickets.

Final tickets will be what minimum £60 ?

There's a cheap category starting from 30-40 quid if I remember rightly from last time. Probably gone up a little since then.
-
This may sound mad but I have always preferred semi-finals to the actual "event" which tends to be fraught with tension, in a strange land and costing a lot!
Going to Highbury in 77 for the QPR replay was one of my greatest Villa memories - no money to get in, for food or a drink, relying on the generosity of fellow Villans and then a hat-trick from Sir Brian - the best of times...

It was one of those classic Villa nights when you could almost feel the ghosts of our illustrious past pushing the team on to a famous victory. It was an amazing night.
-
A good draw.
They have not actually beat a Premier League side, they have drawn twice.
I keep reading on their website about pinning things up on the dressing room wall. Ok, fair enough, I am sure they will be up for it, but they're still a 4th division outfit. Even if they're wound up, I cannot see how they can stop the Benteke.
I expect them to come flying at us for 40 minutes, us to drop one in, then another and us to steamroller them by the end of it.
We have bladdered every side we've played in this competition thus far, including the best side in the country. I couldn't care less if Bradford managed to hang onto a draw with Arsenal.

I think John burridge was in goal if I remember rightly.

They would think they are playing Leeds and up their game.
Actually, it's a good job Leeds didn't get through and draw them. Would have sounded more like an airport than a semi final clash.
-

It would be a nice idea. How collectible would that kit be then!
-
I haven't been well this week and wasn't really online that often.
Obviously thrilled with the draw. Over one leg it would be a potential banana skin but we should win over the two legs. Also I genuinely feel we can take anybody in the final. On our day we can be unplayable as we saw at Anfield.
-
In the telephone queue for 19 minutes but tickets booked for a match 6 miles away. Oh what luxury!

I'll never forget that match. Didn't Doug graciously concede London advantage to QPR after the drawn two legs after the spin of a coin which fell out of sight or something and I think it was the QPR chairman (Jim Gregory??) shouting "It's heads, it's heads". to which Doug is supposedly to have said " if you say it's heads Mr Gregory then it's heads and we will play in London". It may not be true but, it's in my head for some reason. The old adage Revenge is a dish best served cold comes to mind.
Highbury holds so many good memories for me, we may have been turned over a few times but when it mattered we delivered there.

I thought the story was that both chairman claimed to have called heads, but we acted with class.

Yup, Burridge was in goal for them and got pelters, which was unfair given his efforts for us.
It has been discussed elsewhere, but the attendance that night was higher than Coventry's average home gate. There were probably 1500 Palace fans there max too.

I'm sure. Just checked my on-line account.

I would assume so. If you're in the Cup Scheme it's automatic.

Can you really expect cheap tickets for a semi final?
while there are people mug enough to pay the best part of 40 quid, apparently not.
-
Thing is there is no right price because at every price for someone it is too much. I certainly wouldn't be calling anyone who CHOOSES to pay that and go a mug. Football is expensive and in order for us to compete and for the club to be be where we all want them to be means it will remsin that way. I want us in more semi finals and finals but for that there's a price. If you believe we are going to achieve our goals on the cheap, then you're mistaken.
-
This may sound mad but I have always preferred semi-finals to the actual "event" which tends to be fraught with tension, in a strange land and costing a lot!
Going to Highbury in 77 for the QPR replay was one of my greatest Villa memories - no money to get in, for food or a drink, relying on the generosity of fellow Villans and then a hat-trick from Sir Brian - the best of times...
One of the best team performances by a Villa side in my 45+ years of watching. There was only ever going to be one winner that night.

Same here, outclassed an excellent QPR team that evening with Brian Little absolutely brilliant, saw the match programme in the loft the other day when getting decorations down and made me think back to a great night

I take it you won't be going to the final then.

I will be going to the final. (should we get there of course)

I can understand the economics behind the adult prices for the game. It is the concession prices which seem a bit unfair to me. My dad, who has an over 65's season ticket is having to pay £30 for the semi final while I am paying £39.

Obviously nobody who pays those prices will be a mug then.

If we are 5-0 up after the first leg, at £39 there might be a rush to get refunds.

Simple case of supply and demand Dave. I can see the Villa play 40-odd times a season in all competitions but finals come along at about 2 a decade. I fully expect to pay £60, 70 80+ for my final ticket and will (grudgingly) do so because it is a twice-a-decade occasion.
I spend a lot of money following the Villa home and away and I think that they are taking the piss with the pricing of this match. This match is a bonus for Villa and they are effectively charging the fans a category B price to play a 4th division team. They justify that by pointing and saying "semi-final" but I am not impressed. As far as I am concerned losing in a semi-final is the same as losing in any of the other rounds. Added to that it is a midweek game, it is before payday in the leanest month of the year and it is on TV. I think that is a step too far and I will go to the away leg and watch the home leg on TV. If enough fans do the same then perhaps a sensible price will be charged (£20-£25) instead of gimmicks like giving away bloody flags. I dont need to wave a flag to show mys support but I do need to feed my family come the end of January.

I remember that story as well. When the match ended 2-2 everybody just milled around for 20 minutes and it was only in the morning we found out what was happening. The three matches to win it were another bleeding saga! Trying to take the Highbury North Bank (you could walk round three sides of the ground) was another bit of fun ;-)
Our flag can still be seen in the goal celebrations for the second (I think)
-
I sit in P8 but I will be moving to the wings for this one.3x£39 this close to Christmas is just too much.
-
Got my semi ticket today. £20 Lower North. Can't argue with that price.
-
I'm obviously missing something here, as I thought the tickets weren't on sale until 27/12/12.

It's nothing to do with supply and demand. No matter what the opposition it's a semi-final. Tell supporters of any other club that you aren't going to a semi-final because it's too expensive when tickets start at £20. Then let me know when they stop laughing.

Good idea. We'll phone up and arrange to move our tickets on Monday.

Have to say from going to more away games than home in last few years, Villa's pricing is excellent.
-
Hope the half season ticket sales are going well. People committing themselves to watching the team is always good.

I was at all six of those games, the 3 semis and 3 finals, fantastic times and incredible support, especially Highbury. The first game at Loftus Rd was postponed, but we still took about 10,000 when it was re-arranged. The home leg was the only time I ever got locked out of the Holte, massive queues and they closed the turnstiles just when I was about six from the front. Sickening feeling then everyone ran round to the Witton End and we managed to get in there with the qpr fans. If I remember right just the front part was open as the North Stand was being built behind. At Highbury there must have been over 20,000 of us. Qpr had been the better side at Villa Park and were fancied to win the replay but what a magical night it turned out to be. "Oh we're all pissed up and we're going to Wemberlee!"

Oh dear Lizz, I'll explain. As commonly predicted the world ended on the 21st December, a tad annoying I agree. On the 22nd Benteke started recreating the world and repopulating the planet obviously starting with his chosen ones. He has taken 5 days, today being the 27th so naturally we have all being busy getting semi final tickets. We are now all Sons ( and daughters) of Benteke aka Christians. Happy belated Bentekemas to you.

The 2 all against QPR remains one of my all time great nihgts down VP. Slagging stanley bowles, not realising how dodgy a goalie burridge was and watching dixie score two goals. The Holte was as packed as I have ever experienced.
As regrds ticket price, my ticket for the OT match cost 1 pound and the train up cost 2 pound

You should have been able to get yours yesterday if you've been to two previous rounds.
-
Someone who knows about these things. When do we reckon away tickets will sell out ?
I havent been to an away game this season and missed the Tranmere game but have been a season ticket holder since 1874ish so I qualify to go in on Saturday. Do we think they will still have availability then?

You might struggle then mate, but if i hear of any spares, i'll let you know.

Bollocks, I've just realised that I qualified for a ticket from yesterday. They don't open on Sundays now do they?
-
They were open 10am-2pm today. So you'll have to call them tomorrow Pete. Not sure if you can order online today or not.
-
Cheers Peter. I'll call them in the morning.
My online account is screwed up in some way as it says that I 'don't have privileges on my account to purchase tickets'. I did phone up about it once, but they failed to sort it and I just gave up trying to use it.
-
Went in today. Told I had to bring in the paper ticket to get it changed. Being posted out on Monday.

I intend to - on my settee.

Come on Swansea!

Why not sit in the North Stand as it's £20 there and you've already said you'd pay £20?
-
Which is what I will be doing when I get my ticket for P8 and exchange it at the ticket office.

We'll be in the same part of the ground for once!

PM me your seat details and I'll try to sit as far away from you as possible...
-
Why not sit in the North Stand as it's £20 there and you've already said you'd pay £20?
Because I want to sit in my seat in P8
Because I cant stand the lower North (seats bolted onto terracing with no leg room)
Because I think the club are taking the piss and should we tonk Bradford (hard to see after today's performance) then I expect the powers that be will have a re-think and the price for my seat to be more reasonable

P8 tickets work out to what? About £17 per league game? Seems like a great deal to me. One major cup semi final later, the prices go up and it's toys out of the pram time. Not to worry, someone will have your seat anyway. They'll have your poxy flag as well.
-
Too much hubris around last week: The Gods of football contrived a nemesis at the home of Russian Robberbaronovich (allegedly).
The semi-final is a job to be done, not a game already won.
-
Concrete I think its either pay up or shut up, this game will sell out
-
I see we're along the side of the pitch again. Got the whole of this stand apparently. Should be a cracking night

Just under 4500.

Happy days. 4500 Villa on the march should be enough to get us to Wembley.

I'm sat with the locals!
-
A mate of mine has to work so we're driving up late afternoon. It'll be a few beers round Brum first whilst we're waiting.
I was'nt at Norwich but if we can make as much noise as they did that night, it should be quite an atmosphere. It sounded bloody awesome on the radio.
-
I'm up in Bradford at the moment covering the Thomas Cook call centre, one of the lads came in yesterday having queued all morning for his tickets.
He started rattling on to his mate about shit we were, and how they had every chance of beating us, until I put him right.
I think it's fair to say he didn't expect a Villa fan to be sat six feet away, in his defence.

I phoned the ticket office at about 5pm today. They said they have about 500 left. I would guess those will sell out tomorrow morning with it being s/t holders of at least 5 seasons. I'm getting down early to make sure.

Whose said that we'll "piss the 2 games"?

anyone trying/struggling to get on the online ticket office ? Mine just wont load

Red light district in Bradford is at the rear end (fnarr) of the university, or at least it was. A mate of mine used to go to uni up there, and all the tarts used to congregate on Longside Lane and surrounds. Have fun, guys.
-
Me and Andy Lochead In The Air, first and second in the queue for Bradford tickets . About a dozen here at the mo.
-
I was 5th but sneaked into 4th at the last minute! Great to meet you both! Nice to be back in the warm now.
-
My comment yesterday about getting down early clearly provoked a tsunami of fans desperate to snap up the last few hundred this morning. Anyway an hour or so standing in the wind and rain soon passes discussing the `Good old days` with other H & Vers.
-
Have just come off the phone with Consumer Sales having bought my Bradford away tickets for me and my son. I was refused a £20 student ticket for my son, who is 18 and still in full time education at school and who has a young adult season ticket. The sales criteria clearly states £25 adults, £20 O60's & Students but the guy serving me said that the student ticket was only available to students over 21! He insisted that I had to pay £25 for both tickets which I have reluctantly done in order to secure the tickets. I am going to contact Nicola Keye to check this further as I feel I should have got the student price for my son. Any thoughts peoples?
-
Is it sold out yet?

It does seem a bit strange when the great majority of students are aged between 18-21. As you say a call to Nicola Keye is in order.
-

500 tickets left when they opened this morning at 9am. When I walked out with mine secured at 9.05am there were probably 50 people behind me.

This is good considering I will use about £50 worth of fuel, £25 match ticket £20 on food etc.
edit: oh yes there is hotel on top!
-
A student is a student, age doesn't come into it, we do student concessions and I've never asked anybody how old they are.
-
A quick update, I received a call from the ticket office after sending an email to Nicky Keyes who replied to me very promptly. Anyway the upshot is that I should have been given the student price for my son and they have posted the refund to my CC. Jobs a good un!

As predicted!

Despite all the doom and gloom, I can barely wait for next weeks game, and that won't change even if we lose to Ipswich!.

According to the OS, Supporters with 2012/13 Booking History can buy tickets this Sunday (edit: for the second leg), but only in person at the ticket office? Is that definitely right? I can't buy online on the day?
Just called up the ticket office and this is true.

You can book on-line or in person not on the phone
Called the ticket office and one told me you can but another told my old man that you need to come in person... I'm just gonna go in person and not take the gamble!

Howard Webb reffing first leg of this

I can book tickets on Monday for the 2nd leg. After seeing previous posts would I be right in saying I can't book online and will have to do it over the phone as I have no chance of getting to the ticket office in person from Cornwall.

I think you should be fine, if you look at the criteria stuff on the OS it just says "In person at Ticket Office" by the Sunday tier only. I think it's because it's a very broad criteria so they're expecting a lot of demand that day.

As I understand it I can only book one ticket (on my booking history) so I will have to wait until they go on general sale as I need 3 tickets (me, Mrs and D.boy jnr) unless anyone on here knows of a way round it.

Is there any truth in the rumour that the Bradford City programme is now being edited by the editor of The Villa Times?

Special 'addition' rather than 'edition'. ;)

Perhaps there is a bumper pull-out as an addition? Or they're just illiterate.

It's the latter... 'an truly'.

I bought a couple this morning - looked like there were plenty available so I'm guessing you'll be fine when it comes on general sale

Just bought another two online. Judging by the overview on there, there are loads of seats left.

Bradford were selling tickets for tonight up to 12 noon. Last night they'd sold 22000 plus including us.

Probably why Villa were given some extra tickets

It holds 25K I think.
Match tickets for the home leg of City's eagerly-anticipated Capital One Cup Semi-Final with Aston Villa will go OFF SALE at 12noon today (Tuesday 8 January 2013).
Tickets for this Tuesday's truly historic tie - arguably City's biggest cup game since their F.A Cup success back in 1911 - can still be bought over the phone - 0871 978 8000 - or by coming to the Ticket Office at the Coral Windows Stadium in person before the deadline.
Tickets for the away leg of City's Capital One Cup Semi Final with Villa will remain on sale after the 12noon deadline.
Phil Parkinson's men entertain the Premier League side at Valley Parade this coming Tuesday (8 January 2013) before travelling to Villa Park for the second leg two weeks later (Tuesday 22 January 2013).
With a crowd of over 22,000 expected at the Coral Windows Stadium tonight at present, only seats in the North West Corner remain available to City supporters.

A bookie on the radio earlier was saying that you can get Villa at 4/5 for this game and he said he thought that would be one of the best bets of the season. He did say that it was only really worth it for the 'big hitters' as he put it.

so, if you put £50 on Villa, and we win, you get £40 back, plus your stake ?

Don't think so - had a quick look at the ticket section on the site and apart from the edges (technical term!) most of the available seats are singles and not many of them from what I could see.

Does it say that on there? Where did you get the bit about singles from?
When I looked, there were no sections sold out and more than half were good availability. That was before Tuesday though. Maybe that has caused them to buy tickets in droves.

He's right, The whole of the North Stand lower and it's surrounding areas (excluding the away allocations) are sold out. In the Holte End, you can only get tickets along the wings of the Upper, apart from that there's only singles left. Various sections of the Trinity and Doug Ellis still have quite a few left, but this looks similar to the night before a league game, and with the best part of two weeks still to go it looks destined for a sell-out.
Definitely no more than 8k left.

If the Blackburn fans had bothered to turn up the people sitting in the usual away bit would have been there instead I suppose. We got 40,406 in for that game, so if they had brought the amount Bradford will it would have been at capacity.

There's 4800 tickets left and Saturday will be the first home game since they went on general sale not every one buys over the phone or on the net. With just under two weeks to go it's too early for this doom and gloom about the attendance.
To be fair about the mistake about the Holte they're only eight years out, if I'm right/

Youngsters, probably googled attendances and assumed that that was the only reason why it could've been so low. THOSE were dark days

Yep.
-
We won't outsing 6500 supporters unless there is some blood and thunder on the pitch. Of course, this is different as there will be an away following that rarely go home, never mind away, so they may tire of singing the same shit after about 10 minutes. At Villa Park, like everywhere else, you have a hard core. Attendances above the norm don't necessarily mean louder support. You tend to get more whingeing. The higher the crowd, the more the moaning.
-
Yep, a younger chap put up that post and was asked to add the list of significant semi-finals that Villa won through to the final and also give the piece a title. I just saw it and noticed the Holte End reference (all changed now). His reply - "I was wondering why we were only getting 20,000-odd for a home game vs Liverpool and also a semi." A younger generation don't actually know of how low the attendances were a few decades ago...even when we had a bigger capacity. Even some of the attendances in the 1981 when Villa won the league are shocking.
The main problem with the post was the title of the piece ('lowest attendance'), which had nothing to do with the content, plus ticket sales are way past the lowest ever already.
Sorry about the errors. More worrying is the number of people who didn't notice anything at all! UTV

We all know the issues with the "team" we are piss poor but the 12th man has to stir that night!!
We are playing a 4th tier club, at VP and although it's difficult to see this shower of shite keeping a clean sheet it would only take a 2-0 win to see us through to Wembley.
We may as well raise the roof because with this squad it will be a very long time before Villa are in another semi, 90mins with a Tranmere type support might just be the catalyst for the team to perform. If not then we can't blame ourselves, if anyone gets on the players back they may as well go stand in the Bradford end.
-
why do people say a 2 - 0 win is enough, i believe that 2-0 means penalties
-
2 0 is good enough, after extra time tho (thats when away goals come into it)
-

thanks for clearing that up, so if we are 2 0 up at 90 minutes we then have to play extra time, so what happens if both teams score 1 in extra time or 2
-
The away goal rule in this competition never seems fair as one team gets 90 mins to score away goals and the other team gets 120. Burnley got knocked out by Spurs this way a few seasons back.
-

Big chance to get back up to the championship- Blackpool aren't a bad club and I can see him going there rather than staying in league 2 .

He's on the verge of one of the greatest cup stories of all time and on the brink of promotion to league 1. With the money there bringing in through TV and gate receipts then theres a reasonable chance of them being in the Championship themselves in a few years. Personally think he'd be mad to leave them at this moment in time
However, if he does leave it helps our chances. On that basis Parkinson, you have a great offer, take it!!

I wish I could see that happening. I think Bradford will sit back and try and snatch a goal on the counter. I think we'll struggle to score more than 2 over 90 mins. My main worry is them scoring on the counter attack - one goal from them would kill us I reckon. This team has imploded on several occassions this season after going behind, despite starting well.
-
He's on the verge of getting battered 5 or 6 nil at Villa Park.
-
If we get a spell like we had at the tart of the 1st half and at the start of the 2nd half, you would think that 9 times out of ten, you'd stick at least four out of those dozen or so chances away.
On a bigger pitch, with pressure actually on them this time, then I think we'll be too strong.
An early goal and they will start to brick it. Their manager has said he is going to come out and attack, which can only be a good thing for us.
-
That's how I see it Ads.
-
That's how I see it Ads.
As scathing as I was about the team on Tuesday, you cannot help but look back and scratch your head about the volume of gilt edge chances we failed to put away.
Benteke when he went through on the angle should have buried it, but stuck it straight down Duke’s throat.
Benteke’s second header from the corner was a sitter. Bannan’s late first half shot from 12 yards went straight at Duke, when an inch either side and it was in.
Benteke’s diving header in the second half was another sitter.
Gabby’s swivel shot from about six yards should have found the net.
Bent should have scored, but miss-timed his jump.
So as bad as we were at defending set pieces, looking disorganised and lumping the ball, we should still have easily put five or six past them.
-
I don't see Bradford coming out to attack - their modus operandi seems to be to concede territory and have two well drilled lines of four. They then see what they can concoct on the break.
My fear is that they are capable of sscoring at Villa Park, particularly from set pieces. All three goals were the result of corners and they also had one cleared off the line and hit the bar from headers. They absolutely murdered us in the air (Clark in particular) and I can't see us keeping a clean sheet. Which would mean us scoring 4 (or 3 and winning on penalties).
It's squeaky bum time, alright.
-
I cannot see them scoring from open play, as they're fairly terrible and even our awful defence coped with them.
But it is as you say, from set pieces, we have a huge vulnerability.
-
The job is not impossible , I have read about comments about the Tranmere game. well the Villa team of 94 would spank our Villa team of today but I also think the Tranmere team is better than Bradfords.
At the end of the day , we missed chances and every shot seemed to go straight at the keeper and our defense was like a park team or maybe worse. We could have easily won it however diabolical we were and we were , they got their crowd right up soon as they went 1 up and I was so disapointed when we conceded the third , at 2-1, I thought job done , that was a disgraceful thing to do and then they looked like scoring from every corner.
We can do it . We will score . I think it will be a proper onslaught at VP , especially now I have heard the swansea result , we should be right up for it.
I think we will win 4-1 , Im sticking my neck out , If Vlarr is fit , Bradford wont score If its Baker and clark again , they might get one from a set piece . so 4-1 Villa.
-
That's how I see it Ads.
Love the positivity lads!! Lets fucking kill them. How dare they think they can take the piss out of us!!
-
I'm expecting that he'll go three up front with Bent (hopefully fit) and Weimann either side of Benteke. Hopefully a new signing in the middle with the return of Vlaar. There is no way if we create the same number of chances again as we did at the start of the last game that we won't bury some of them. I refuse to believe we can be so wasteful again, or that Matt fucking Duke is Dino Zoff and Buffon all rolled into one. It's time that we showed Bradofrd why they are a league 2 side. So I insist that they all enjoy their moment in the sun.
-
Let's take our chances, keep it tight at the back and give them a lesson. And once we've done it, I want that pitch announcer from their place dragged onto the pitch and a microphone shoved firmly up his arse before being booted back onto his bus home. That is all.
-
What did the PA bloke say up there? I've heard a lot of people comment about him but no idea what he did/said.
-
It's not impossible at all, it's just we'll have to play well in attack and defence to do it.
-
What did the PA bloke say up there? I've heard a lot of people comment about him but no idea what he did/said.
He suggested that fans might want to start booking hotel rooms for Wembley, although I think that was more a dig at our lot as there had been a lot of talk up there about Villa fans booking trains and hotels as soon as the draw was made. Which was no doubt used in Phil Parkinson's pre-match team talk.
He also seemed to wind a few people up when announcing the scorers after each goal... "The scorer of LEAGUE TWO (emphasised) Bradford City's second goal against Premier League Aston Villa was ........". All harmless stuff really. You can't blame them enjoying their moment.
-
Just a no-mark ****** in a dead beat town who peddles fairy tales for a living.

Apparently the lower tiers have now sold out or are very very (very) close to it. Mate had to go for the wings of the Upper Holte to get 2 tickets together earlier.

Trinity Upper and Witton Stands are the only areas with any kind of decent availability. I reckon it'll be close to a sell out by the end of next week.

If we end up winning the cup I have to say it'll feel completely underwhelming. I might change come the final but I really don't feel any excitement about the prospect of silverware this season. If we win I might let out a half hearted "yippee!" but that's about it. Our situation in the league but just at the club generally, is probably gonna take the gloss off this big time.
I still remember the sheer joy of 94 and the immense satisfaction of 96, even going into that game feeling like our name was on the trophy.
But now I'm just cold on the prospect. Not that we've any right whatsoever to be thinking about possibly lifting the cup. In part though I guess it's because the league cup is a bit bobbins now.
-
Winning the league cup and qualifying for Europe would be incredible considering the hurdles of the last two years - it would be a fantastic feeling and achievement and great for us fans who have had our share of tough times recently.
If we get to the final and play Swansea I think we would have every chance of succeeding .
-
Fair enough Supertom, but I'd love the Villa to win a trophy.
-
If we won the League Cup this season i'd be ecstatic. It's one of only 2 trophies we can realistically win thanks to modern £ootball.
-
In a way (putting a massive positive spin on things) having to go balls out attack is helpful for us in the second leg, it clarifies the tactics and means we dont have to try and defend a position. The critical point will be if we don't score early will the players get agitated and the crowd restless. Also if we do score a few will we sit back and let them back into it?
-
As is the same with every game with our youthful side at the minute, confidence is key. Score first, play well, comfortable win. Concede early, we are fucked.

Not quite- we have dropped a lot of points from leading positions this season.
-
Just to make the boys feel worse, Bradford lost at home to Oxford today. Zut!
-
Fair enough Supertom, but I'd love the Villa to win a trophy.
So would I but not at the expense of our premier league status. Just see SHA and Boro for that.
-
Just to make the boys feel worse, Bradford lost at home to Oxford today. Zut!
And Oxford were in the bloody Conference last season .................AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!
-
God we are shit.
-
Parkinson turned down the Blackpool job last night, was hoping he'd fcuk off before the second leg.
-
why does it have to be at the expense of premier league status? getting knocked out by bradford won't help our league form at all. i doubt we'd win the final but getting there would give the team a boost
-
Reckon we can get a bid in for Oxford's back four?
-
Reckon we can get a bid in for Oxford's back four?
We could buy them all for the total of 1 week of Dunne, Hutton & Warnocks wages .

You can't get two seats together anywhere in the Holte anymore. Rather than seeing this as a distraction from the Premier League, I think we should use this as an opportunity. Turning around the 3-1 score and a fantastic, fun, loud night at Villa Park could give our youngsters a new found confidence to take into the league.
Those of you who claim to not care about the cup, I've never seen Villa lift a trophy in my lifetime of following them with a passion. While some of you have the European Cup, countless League cups, division titles, and maybe even an FA Cup if you're old enough, I have nothing. My 'great villa memories' are being in the Holte when Blues got relegated, seeing us win the Peace Cup, and the few seasons we were almost better than Everton. Do you know how depressing that is?
Don't you dare try and take my excitement away from this, it's all I have as younger Villa fan, and being at Wembley to watch Man United lift it 3 years ago almost broke my heart. Lets turn them over and win our cup again, for the thousands of kids my age who don't know what it's like.
-
Chipsticks I endorse what you have said. I am considerably older than you and seen us win the League , European Cup and many League cups but yearns for the day when we lift the FA cup and I don't what League division we are in when we do that. I do hope you see us list the cup at wembley this season.
-
good post chipsticks

Bradford's PA announcer has been complained about by the police.
-
Before the Soton game I said we would batter Bradford 4-0 in the second leg.
I'm really not so sure now.

Chipsticks I salute you. Now here is a young lad who has stayed away from the easy opition like so many to become a glory hunter he is desperate to see the Villa win a trophy.
I have a son a couple of years younger than Chips and it broke my heart when he started to cry like a baby as Man U walked up those step to collect the Cup.
Nobody wants us to be relegated but we have an opportunity to get our dignity back after the battering we have taken these last few weeks.
Lets roar the lads to victory after all the prize could very well be a winnable game against Swansea.
Anybody under 24 will have little or no memory of a Villa captain climbing the step of Wembley.
I'm lucky enough to have seen it all bar the FA Cup and there aint nothing better.
This generation needs a trophy win lets not kill there enthusiasm when the club/team will need it most
-
Yeah, agreed. Having us in a final would just give the club, players and fans a huge lift, to possibly win it would inject a new found sense of optimism.

Sack him- incitement almost, fair play they deservedly won but you don't rub people's nose in it like that .
Few things I hate more than a bad winner .

Plus he did it in a really broad irriatating Yorkshire accent. He made Darren Gough sound almost OK.
If we manage to turn it around in the 2nd leg we should have Tony Butler ready firing both barrels over our PA.

Symptomatic of the modern game, victory is not reward enough, you have to take the piss. Savage probably loves it.

Well said. Remember the fans on the pitch after we beat Blackburn in the semis ? You wouldn't have seen celebrations like that for finishing 4th in the league.

Just like Small Heath did?
We're not Small Heath.
Also 2 things happening together don't necessarily show causative effect. Small Heath may well have gone down anyway, there's not a shred of evidence that going out of the League Cup would have saved them. Nor is there any that it would make any difference to our survival chances either. At least they went with something to cheer about, and I'd take that too.

Personally I would find a League Cup win a hollow victory if we subsequently get relegated - as I don`t subscribe to us returning immediately - in fact I really fear for the club`s future if we go down. I suppose the irony of it all was our celebrations at the relegations of Small Heath and Newcastle. I guess what comes around goes around.

Great post - you should do the team talk ;D
-
Post of the Month so far, Chipsticks.
-
Amen to that.
-
Quite surprised.
Bought our tickets on Wednesday, looked at the ticket selector, and there were vast swathes of tickets available all over the ground. Read an article on the OS just now, saying we'd sold 13k since Monday, looked again, and there are hardly any left.
Crucial match, this, not just for the obvious Wembley trip, but also because it's a chance to lift spirits - and fuck me, do our spirits need lifting.
-
If we won the Milk Cup I'm pretty sure we wouldn't get relegated. Only dipshits like Blose manage to do that.

Yes , the prospect of a Wembley final against Swansea should produce a huge lift throughout the whole club.
-
Let's say we beat Bradford well enough to go through and then hopefully beat Swansea in the final. It would amazing to actually think that despite the shit of the last 2 or 3 seasons we could actually win a trophy. It could be exactly what these young kids need to inspire them into seeing the season through to survival.
My only hope is, should we win the game against Bradford and then go on to win the cup that it really doesn't paper over the cracks of what has been a dreadful couple of seasons in B6. It would also mean Lerner should invest PROPERLY in the team and he gets a proper football man on the board - Graham Taylor would be perfect.

An early goal and I think it's very possible. If it goes goalless for too long I can't see us going through, and if, god-forbid, we concede first, I think that's curtains.
-
Agree, an early goal and the crowd would be crazy, bradford would panic and I think we could take them to the cleaners - even if we only took the lead after an hour we would still be in business , but I have thought 4-1 since Wednesday and stick with that.
-
First goal is definitely the winner.
-
@BBCFootball1: Meredith out with glandular fever: Bradford City full-back James Meredith could be facing a lengthy absence afte... http://t.co/viCtOKwT
Major blow for them
Just realised he wasn't even in the team that beat us ::)

This is our time to roar!!!!
The Final may be a different matter :-/

Yes. He's been reported to the authorities.

He's probably got a free transfer to the Albion knowing our luck

His balls have dropped and he had the sack.
-
Wonder if he'll get sent the bill for the snapped seats at Valley Parade.
-
That should be sent to our club.
-
I had to fix seats that had been broken at Villa once when I was working there. Not fun.
-
That should be sent to our club.
I hope it is. But that clown didnt help.
-
Think i must be a bit strange. in a perverse kind of way i actually thought the announcer was quite funny.
I mean all he was doing was takin the piss, something similar to what we all received the next day from our non villa supporting mates
-
Another twattish announcer is that one at Chelsea. Thought he would take the piss out of us a couple of times.
-

kind of agree. Some people get easily wound up. Would you destroy your work desk if your colleague took the piss out of villa?
-
The atmosphere was already unpleasant, it wasnt a good time to take the piss, people were pissed off enough already. Im just glad no-one was daft enough to get hold of him.

-
I hope this is a joke
-
No joke I'm afraid.
-
As predicted by me a couple of weeks ago! Our luck gets worse with referees!
-
Might have known dowd would be the grim reaper!
-
It's time to start pissing in the corners .
-
Another nail in our coffin.
-
We'll win 5-0.
-
Dowd seems to hate us so much he could send Benteke off for kicking off!
-
Lady luck really has dropped her smalls and is taking a huge dump on us.
-
Maybe, just maybe we'll get the payback we deserve. Karma will work it's magic and he will make some outrageous decisions in favour of the "big" club in order to make the second leg a memorable "occasion".
-
Dowd?! Jesus wept.
-

Dowd hates us, those 2 penaltys at Chelsea were avoidable and he gave them. The bit that pissed me off most was the smile on his face both times after he gave it. I can't believe the FA allow him to referee us
-
Why doesn't somebody at the club complain about Dowd?
-
I don't think Dowd's going to prevent us from getting to the final. It's up to players and the Manager.
-
We're out.
-
I don't think Dowd's going to prevent us from getting to the final. It's up to players and the Manager.
I would put a large bet on us getting nothing on the night. The Bradford players will be able to kick 7 shades out of us, completely batter us, and I am certain he won't give us a bean. We will breathe on them and they will get a free kick. Dowd and Halsey are the 2 worst refs in the league, and both hate us with a passion it would appear.
Our luck was even worse at the weekend as Halsey was only in due to Foy being ill. Go down by a point, I will blame Halsey for giving Foy a dodgy prawn and then giving the match to Southampton. There is a conspiracy I tells ya.
-
i've got no issue with dowd. he was the ref during the 4-4 at Chelsea wasn't he?

get a good start and if we can wipe out the Bradford advantage or actually get ahead by half-time I reckon we will do them by 4/5.
UTV
The Doc
-
If we're 3-0 up in the last minute I'd fully expect Dowd to give them a penalty. Even if the ball's in their half.
-
Which he can do if one of our players thumps one of theirs in the penalty area if the ball is in play. :)
-
Frankly we don't need Dowd or any other ref to see us fail in this game. We can do that all by ourselves, led by the games most inept manager on current form.
-
I can see Dowd having a very pro us game. He wont give any dodgy decisions against us and might give some in our favour as he'll want to be reffing us in the prem at some other point in his career where against one of either Chelsea or Manu he can reek untold havoc on us once again.
-

That's the spirit.
-
i've got no issue with dowd. he was the ref during the 4-4 at Chelsea wasn't he?

Sending Bennett off against Norwich earlier this season was another classic from the clayhead prick!

I never knew Steve Clarke was our manager.

Beat me to it - last 10 games identical points - 3 defeats on the trot for them

Halsey followed by Dowd ... nice.

In fairness that was down to the linesman.

Apparently the Lower North, and Upper and Lower Holte are now sold out.

According to the select-a-seat thingy there's still 1 ticket left in the Upper Holte! ;)

Crewe beating this mob 4-1 at home...
A lot of players rested though. Feeky chuckers.
-
According to Sky sports News Bradford are already at Wembley.Lets show em
-
Yeah not surprised as obviously the Johnstone's paint windscreen wiper trophy or whatever it's called these days isn't the same priority as carling cup.

RESTING PLAYERS!!!!!!!
I really can't believe that Bradford are resourced to the extent that their replacement players are any worse than those rested this evening. Please don't start getting the excuses in early, if Crewe can dismantle this lot 4-1 at home tonight quite frankly if we don't go through in the 90 minutes next Tuesday then our players really should hang their heads in shame and the manager should sleep very uneasily.
-
Losing at home and getting bashed away, good.
-
Bradford have lost 4 of the last 5 against the footballing giants of Rochdale, Barnet, Oxford and Crewe, but can beat our lot quite comfortably!
-

I think it's more accurate to say that we lost the first leg rather than they beat us.
-
They won and we didn't. That's all that matters.
-
So all we need to do next Tues is match Crewe.
-
well, we do have Crewe's best player from last season :D
-
Let's smash them 5-1.
You know what, all this shit sbout Stan leading the team out at Wembley etc, the players should think about that (and be ashamed after the first leg), understand what Stan is going through and get to Wembley for Stan. That's the least they should do.
-
They have just signed an experienced centre half to help out their young untried defenders ;D
-
If we don't go through after the results Bradford have had,Lambert should be frogmarched off the premises, signings or no signings
-

I think the cup has really distracted them as often happens and Tuesday will be a different story, but even still I would like to think we will be a hell of a lot better than the away leg.
I'm worried about the WBA game and what effect that will have for Tuesday's game
-

Are you going to bother erecting gallows or just hang him off a tree in Aston Park?

Tree should be ok, or how about the railings on Trinity Road. We could throw rotten fruit at him then
-
Hopefully the weather won't call the game off!
-
Hopefully it will. We need to be in better form and have new players for this.
-

I'm inclined to agree with this, especially with the Bradford and Millwall games so close. Not forgetting Newcastle as well.
-
Im hoping both the Albion and the Bradford games are called off. In fact we should be doing everything we can to make sure they are. Bulging brown paper bags should be on their way to the Hawthorns whilst our groundsman prepares to contract the norovirus.
-
Albion are in terrible form too with a stack of players out. Play them now, the same with wanky Bradford.
Enough of this fear and whimpering. You cannot forge confidence hiding in shadows from the likes of West fucking Brom and Bradford fucking City.
-
We're Aston Villa. Former Champions of Europe. We should not be worried by Albion who have had their first half a decent season in 358 years, and Bradford, WTF?! Let's get in to them and show them who's boss.
Probably not going to happen though.

It's not really about confidence or whimpering, I was thinking in terms of a postponement would give us the chance to play any signings we make this window in that fixture.
Mind you, there wasn't much confidence forged in the last match against Bradford City.
-
We cannot play new signings against Bradford can we?
-
We cannot play new signings against Bradford can we?
That made me chuckle.
I'm sitting front row of the lower Holte (not through my choice) and am expecting a very strange atmosphere. If Bradford get an early goal it will be horrible, likewise even if we win I still think it will be tense and edgy down there. I'm certainly not expecting the euphoria that followed the Blackburn game a couple of years ago if we go through. Will be interesting to see.
-
We cannot play new signings against Bradford can we?
No but we can against Albion
-

Not even if they are from a team abroad and not cup tied ?

I dont doubt for a minute that its time to come out fighting, Im just struggling with the idea that the ones on the pitch share the same spirit. All I want is a centre half that looks and plays like one, then Id be happy to smash West Brom.
-
Bradford fans saying they have tickets in home areas. One even boasting he's going with a nose in the Holte.

Well they certainly talk a good game, as for the last two years every time I've looked at Pravda someone's been piping up with the usual motivational gubbins. It's Concrete Ron's turn today.
Certainly agree that we shouldn't fear the likes of Smethwick or Bradford though. If we're going to suffer sleepless nights over those pair them we might as all well just pack up and go home.
-
B1 and A8 the only areas with more than 15-20 seats left. A8 still has loads.

I agree. However the sad state is the apparent belief and how we act like 'we were' that Aston villa. The Aston villa I see week in week out in all aspects is far far from the way a club of our statute should be going about its day to day!
I sooooo want to go to wembley and see us lift another trophy. However, the recent management of this club (board room down) are not doing Aston villa proud

Going with a nose? They don't even go to their own fucking games when its a quid in never mind ours when it's about £30 ffs!

And I've got a ticket in the away end with the Bradford lot!
Just because someone's bragging about it on a forum doesn't mean it's true.
-
I was in the Holte End on 03/03/03 and all I saw was Noses coming out of the woodwork when they scored, throwing things from the box by the scoreboard at us below. I didn't see or hear of any retribution.

Excuse me for being young and ignorant, but what happened? I only started going to games in 2004 when I was 10 so I'm a bit oblivious to anything before then.

Villa lost 2-0 at home to Blues. The famous night that Dublin got sent off for "headbutting" Robbie Savage, and Mark Halsey (yes, even then) also sent off Gudjohnsen. Pretty nasty trouble before, during and after the game. Some Bloose fans had got in home stands and suffered the consequences. Bloose twats in a corporate box giving it the big I-am to the Holte End and ejected by stewards before Villa fans could get to him. Attempted pitch invasion, the lot. Not pretty

Ah, right - thanks. I was aware of the game and what happened just didn't know about all the trouble. Was it as bad as the quarter final a few years ago?

Wasn't at that one (as a matter of principle St Andrews is one of the few 'top flight' grounds I've never been to). Think there was a bit of a mass brawl on the pitch after the game but can't really comment on anything else that might have happened
-
It was bad. I was in the North stand upper and there were plenty of noses in there, getting pushed down the stairs and everything.
People were also squaring up by the segregation in the Witton.
Left after they scored the 2nd, just had to get out.
-

It is not 'top flight' by any stretch of the imagination. The place is an utter dump and the away fans are deliberately located in the worst possible place.
-
I was Lower Holte for 03/03/03, it was mental. It seemed most of people around me had lost it. Never seen VP like that before or since in over 30 years of games. And must admit, if I could have got hold of that twat in the box above us i'd have battered him.
-

Sorry DC5, I know the Sty is a shit hole, but I was using 'top flight' in the sense of clubs that have played in the top couple of divisions, not as a reflection on the standard of their ground.

I was in the Holte End in 03/03/03 and saw Noses come out of the woodwork and get kicked to pieces. One in particular in the upper Witton was introduced to ten or twelve stairs as he was booted down them.

I would hazard that it was the most evil atmosphere B6 has ever experienced, inside and out.
Noses thought they could come and take the Micky and haven’t tried owt similar since.
-
For a while it was a great atmosphere, hostile and intimidating as it it was. But once Dublin acted like a prick and then they scored it just went evil. It's hard to describe but you could feel it in the air. Never known an atmosphere like it down VP. Even normal fans were losing it.
I remember a steady stream of people going past me (I was in an aisle seat) to get on the pitch. How the stewards stopped them I still don't know. I also remember seeing 3 or 4 police behind a barrier near those boxes, and you could see in their faces that while they weren't exactly shitting it, they weren't exactly confident or planning on moving from where they were to stop things as fights were breaking out. I'm sure some were Villa on Villa as they thought each other were noses.
Anyone else remember the seat banging that happened as well, sounded like thunder. I remember seeing it on the TV when I got home and you see Horsfield looking at the Holte and he didn't look exactly happy, despite them being two up.
-
I was going in the opposite direction, very quickly. First Villa match I'd ever left five or ten minutes before full-time. It was evil.
-
Fist Face was getting pelted with coins and so was Savage.
When they subbed him, they had to take him down the tunel for his own safety, at which point he was pelted with more coins.
-

You big girl!
I left at FT and went down Witton Lane to get the bus. It was mayhem down by the away entrance/exit. I reckon most of the noses didn't leave the ground until the following morning.
-
I'm a pacifist.
(Abject coward)
-
Bradfords game tomorrow already off. gives them a nice break to dwell on the hammering they will get on Tuesday.
Hmmmmm.
-
Have you ever seen a large bunch of our fans hop into the away end before, Chipsticks? It happened that night. Noses in the home stands were sought out and kicked to kingdom come. People shoved down stairs. Women being gobbed on. Never known an atmosphere quite so evil.
-
Forgive me for asking Chipsticks, but why on earth would you want to be in their end for such a game? I've done it at away grounds loads of times, keeping hands in pockets and such like, but when there's a chance VP could be rocking???...Sounds like hell to me
-
there were a few bids from championship clubs for a couple of their players including that wells up top, they were waiting for tuesday to see whether in a cup final or not as to whether the club were going to sell them. if tuesday is off the replay wil be in feb so they will have to make a couple of difficult decisions.
-

I'm not in their end! It was a joke that anyone can brag about anything on the internet in response to their fans saying they were in the Holte.
I'm in the Lower Holte L4 as always don't you worry :)

Sounds really bad. Worst violence I've seen at a football game was when I went to Blues - Millwall last season at the Sty.
I didn't go with the intention of causing trouble, my best mate is a 'nose and he takes me to the odd game and I bring him to Villa games every now and again, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Some cockney threw a glass bottle that narrowly missed me, mind.
I don't think I've ever seen any real trouble at our place and I go regularly. Must be a reflection of the times.
-

If Delph is now injured, I am very worried about our midfield for this game.
Westwood is cup tied.
Herd is currently injured, and, even if fit, although he had a couple of early-season appearances on the right side of the now-abandoned midfield diamond, I'm not sure if Lambert knows he can play in central midfield (see Ciaran Clarke).
Clarke can't be moved into midfield as Baker is injured and Lambert has said he is never a midfield player anyway.
El-Ahmadi is away in the ACN although he can't tackle anyway.
Unless I've forgotten someone, this leaves us selecting a central midfeield pair from Bannan (can't tackle), Ireland (doesn't know you can tackle) and Holman (used to tackle).
I'm assuming Warnock isn't an option.
So we desperately need Delph and Herd fit for tuesday.
-
Dalian's Umbrella - classic name. Surely it's Deano's though?
-
Dalian scored the wonder-goal.
-
What's up with Given?
We'll concede from a set piece that's inevitable but at least we scored a couple of goals tonight so all out attack is the only option.
The front three should tear them to shreds this time.
-
He did, but didn't Deano grab the umbrella, either way, it's a great name.
-
If we turn up and start as we did tonight, we will have little to no problem in reversing the aggregate scoreline. Feeling positive about this!
-
Play like we did 1st half we will win convincingly
-
Who the feck will we have in midfield if Delph is injured, holman and Bannan ?
-
Superman Ireland to the rescue!
-
He looks more like Lex Luthor than Superman. (its a pity he plays like him too).
-
It will be a great night atmosphere at VP on Tuesday.
I think we pull back the lead by HT.
But as we are Aston Villa the second half will be like tight.
A big VP night.
-
We get one in the first 20 and I think we'll murder them. Just need to make sure we keep it tight at the back though. Their fans have a thread on their site talking about where they'll be celebrating after the game...cheeky bastards
-

We'll see if there players can cope when they've got nearly 40,000 brummies screaming for their blood.
Early goal and we'll twat 'em, and I hope we show no mercy.
-
I think Lambert needs to remind the players about the announcer at Bradford banging on about booking their hotels for Wembley and how they have taken the piss basically out of us. Westwood will be a big miss, but if we play football like the two goals today AND defend set pieces properly, I think we will beat them
-
The view from Bradford's equivalent of Judith Chalmers about Tuesday night....."you might be disappointed. Brun city centre is a dump. only decent watering holes are in and around broad street near the symphony hall or out in Edgbaston. whitton and Aston which is where the ground is are pretty dodgy places. avoid and get a taxi to villa park."
So the Witton arms will be deserted, anywhere that sells alcohol on the Bristol Road will be quids in and the taxi rank on Broad Street is best avoided.

Whereas Bradford is a cross between Beverly Hills and Monte Carlo.

To live in Bradford, the call Birmingham a dump is quite frankly fucking ridiculous.

Not much, and I'm not talking from a day out up there, I've spent a fair bit of time up there with work over the last six years.

Maybe I struck lucky. The bit I saw wasn't bad at all. Burnley, now there really is a doghole.

Accrington's the worst I've been to up there, I swear you age twice as fast just breathing the air.

Who the feck will we have in midfield if Delph is injured, holman and Bannan ?
I've heard from a few Sheffield United fans that Lowton can play holding midfield, surely worth a thought?
Might not be a bad idea, but who do we play in defence there if we are playing the same formation as today
I'm not sure, I think Lambert's going to have to alter the formation.
maybe diamond formation, cos we need N'Zogbia to be given a free role surely

How long is Herd out for?
-
Just back from a fun couple of hours down the pub with Gary Shaw and four Norwegian Lions.
If they can make the effort to to take time off from work and fly over here for the match surely the least the team can do is get us to Wembley.
On a slightly different subject when Gary asked me "Who was best me or Brian?" I was ever the diplomat and said that they were pretty well level but that Brian is the only Villa player to wear a magic hat!! ;D

He was in a pub by me watching the Liverpool game last month. Being at the game i missed him, but it made my brother's day. He saw him make his debut at Bristol City (i think it was anyway).
Out of interest, did the Noreweigan Lions point at our snow and laugh?

The one from Oslo did mention that when he left home it was -15 but there was only about an inch of snow, the other three guys are from Trondheim which is a lot further north so they will be used to it. ;)

We're driving up tomorrow and Parking at King Edwards School, having never parked there before, Is it an easy walk through the park on the way back (Snow dependent) or is it easier to walk round the park up Bevington Road?
-
I would have thought walking down the road will be easier, given the amount of snow on the ground

Just to warn you I have a season permit for this car park and yesterday I got an email from them warning that the school would be closed today (Monday) due to the snow and that it was likely that if the bad weather persisted that the car park may not be open on Tuesday evening. They were warning all permit holders to make alternative contingency arrangement for parking vehicles on Tuesday evening.

I've just checked their website, it says they're open as usual tomorrow so that should hopefully mean for the evening. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Quite looking forward to this tomorrow as a bunch of us are going up, however I have some queries if anyone can help with. Firstly what time is the ticket office open till? as we need to upgrade an under 21 ticket to adult. Secondly is the bus from Redditch running for this game as it might be wise to book it for the return journey as if it goes to penalties then the last train to Redditch could be missed. Finally if it is called off how long would it be announced before kick off so I know to keep alert just in case. All the best in advance and hopefully it is a wonderful night for us all.
-
They are open right until kick-off.
No idea.
It will not be called off.

Thank You and checking the official website it is highly doubtful it will be called off so all good then.

The bus from Redditch is for league games only so won't be running. Hopefully we will win in normal time but if it does go to pens, I think trains will run later for fans.
-
Do what i used to on a regular basis. Get a taxi. I used to get one back to Kidderminster every home game after a few beers, 4 of us was a tenner each. Cannot be much more to where you are going, surely.

I doubt it very much.

It will snow, heavily from kick off. You will be locked inside the ground for 3 days, celebrating a Villa win. You had better let the Mrs know now, as you will be drinking heavily and only eating Hot Dogs until you get home, Fridayish, should be good 8)UTV.

Hi chaps, the mail you had will have been from my missus as she looks after the permits (we are on the PA as the eldest goes there). School is open tomorrow and we assume that the parking will also be. The surrounding roads might be crap however if the temperatures really drop and the school buses are not dropping outside at the school but at the island. I also have a permit and will see how conditions are. If bad I might opt for Star City, longish walk but will have no traffic issues. I'll post an update when I have any news. Cheers, WV

The walk through the Park is great by the way, you never believe where you are and seeing the ground below you is awe inspiring.

Remember that League Cup game against the racists that was delayed (and good old cuddly Doug blamed us for it) and it was announced over the tannoy that there'd be no late trains back to Liverpool? They were fucked if it had gone to extra time. Sadly the bastards made it academic anyway.

That was one cold night that was.

SOTC & I are thinking of getting a taxi. Not so that we can have a drink (although that might not be a bad idea) more because I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to driving in this weather!

I remember it well.
It's simply not possible to suddenly put on extra trains. You need a driver, a train manager and not forgetting the stock, etc.
Dcf has just checked and the last train to Redditch is 1103 (there's one half an hour earlier as well) so no problem for anyone going back to Redditch even after extra time and penalties.

i remember sitting in the Trinity upper with empty seats all around me, the delayed KO, the seats filled up, game kicks off, we pull it back all square only for them to win it in the last minute and everyone around me went mental celebrating the goal. I didnt know Doug blamed us for the delay, it pissed me off that it seemed the KO was delayed to let Scousers in the home end

I'm getting the train into Birmingham where I'll meet Jon and we'll taxi it to VP. Few samplers in the Lions Club before the game and a taxi back home after.

I've never got a taxi hone from the game - are there plenty around?
-
Some of the biggest attendances ever at VP were when we were in old League Div 3. Some of those teams used to get 1000 at a home game, if they were lucky!

And straight to Millwall.

There are usually quite a few in Trinity Road. We'll go back into the Lions Club as we have to wait for Tom to finish work. Much easier to getaway then once the traffic has died down.

That would be like the superdome after hurricane Katrina.

... you may need to move fast to get one. Alternatively, chill in the LC or Holte Suite / Pub for an hour.

Well I've just dug the Asics shirt out for tomorrow for the first time since the 94 final itself. What the fuck was I thinking back then? I am 5 foot 7 yet the shirt is an XL and I look like I've got Big Daddy's top on. I know i am slimmer now but I definitely haven't shrunk in height. Ridiculous.
-
I need to work out how to get home as well. Depends what time the game finishes and when the last train back to Stourbridge is.

I would have got my 1971 LCF shirt out but it would not be a pretty sight.

You could always get the No9 bus from Brum if need be. It'll take you about 3 days though.

Now if we get through (I think we will) that would be a pleasant 3 day journey if the unthinkable happens that would be the journey from hell!

That's what I'm wearing tonight, over a couple of sweat shirts and a jumper.

Anyone local: I'd be grateful if you could please summarise the roads. Are the main roads fine and just the footpaths/ side roads covered in snow?
Thanks
Re attire for tonight, the muller is coming out. Not worn it in ages either

Right, it's really kicking in now. My concentration span is down from its usual 5 seconds to about 1. I'm starting to twitch and a colony of butterflies has taken residence in my stomach. Remind me why I got myself into this whole mess in the first place?

Don't - I'm getting homesick :(
I always used to park at Ruskin Hall and walk down that way. It's such a unique approach to a stadium; down a tree lined walkway through a park, past a Jacobean house with bullet marks from the Civil War still on show, down the hill to see the Holte End hoving into view. Magnificent.

Same here Des. I booked the week off to decorate and I've done precisely fuck all today.
Mrs will be home soon, so I'll use my "Eeee, it's all the preparation, love" routine. Then, a hasty exit to the King Edward.

That`s just how I feel right now - VCTM jnr went to our last two visits to Wembley and said after the semi final - I never want to come here again Dad.Hopefully I will be asking him if he fancies another visit after the game tonight. Come on Villa - don`t let us down (again!)

need to grab some quick pub grub between 5:30 and 6 near New Street station. Any recommendations as I think most places will be packed? Was thinking The Shakespear.

I had fish and chips in the OC a few months ago, and it was excellent. The size of the fish portions was staggering. I almost struggled to eat it all.
-
Mr Egg!
-
There's a chippy/kebab place down the New St ramp, turn left so you're going down Stephenson St past the taxi rank, follow the road round and it's on the left.
-
Off to collect VCTM jnr from school- bloody hell I`m nervous about tonight -the pressure is all on us and have we got the players to cope with it?- plus their lot will be making some noise to lift their players - vital we get an early goal
-
I see Bradford have got the upper North Stand tonight is that as well as Doug Ellis Upper and lower?
If so that's an impressive turn out.

Same here, feel a little silly! The bad thing is, deep down I'm expecting a decent Villa win, yet in reality I think I may well be disappointed.
