Blimey. I nailed the line up. Hopefully my score prediction of 2-0 comes true too. Good to see Irelamd back in the side.

I disagree, I think Clark is better but I do still rate Baker. I also think that Bannan is better than Delph (or has been this season) but there we are.

Weird dropping Benteke. He's picked up form and confidence in the internationals. He could be great off the bench though, in fairness.

Clark didn't get a sniff for Ireland during the week, not sure if he picked-up a knock in trainining. Seems unlikely that he'd be dropped for Baker.

A bit surprised at Benteke being dropped too. Lambert laughed in his press conference yesterday "he's scored two goals for Belgium so that 's him dropped for tomorrow". Scottish humour, huh?

Is Clark dropped or rested.

He was an injury doubt so presume he didn't make it.

It'll be interesting to see where Gabby plays because it's a very narrow team again.  We really need something out of this game.

Post by: OCD on October 20, 2012, 02:21:05 PM
Yeah, Lambert said in yesterday's press conference that Clark was struggling and he said he would need to look at how tired the likes of Guzan, Holman and Benteke were after the internationals.

Don't think it matters re Clark or Baker. Both should have a good future with the club provided they get game time to develop. Good to see Baker get a look in.

Surprised about Benteke. Time for Bent to put up or shut up.

The team is good enough to win.

Back 4 looks very inexperienced to me. Especially up against the likes of Berbatov.

Not a bad team to be fair.   Gabby needs to do something today ,  I think I would have had Benteke than Gabby and brought him on second half.    Bent's got nothing to prove . He scores.

There is that but I think Lambert is trying to get his ball-playing skills going as he can look good when he is not flying into rash tacklse...

every time I see our side on paper before a game it worries me. we look desperately short on quality throughout.

would like to see our full backs push forward a lot more today and give us some badly needed width.

midfield looks a bit of a basket case. I really dont rate delph or holman. hoping for a lot with stephen ireland. plenty of talent but little heart with him. bent I feel is likely to score but when gabby and himself play up top they never seem to gel.

worth league start for 26 years this commentator is saying. we really need a win.

Fulham always strong at home. Berbatov will be a huge test for our defence. Sidwell and Baird in midfield though so not too much to worry about there. Duff out is a positive.

I think so mate

I reckon we look pretty poor to be honest. Ireland hiding again, Bent hasnt had a kick. Delph and Holman are incredibly limited players. Baker having a bit of a horror show opening, Bennett's lack of physical strength being exposed, no width.

Great support in fairness and Gabby has started well. Fulham are pretty average but Berbatov is a class above anything else on the pitch. Petric is a very decent player too. They look far more likely

Reo-Coker could pass perfectly well too, providing it was short and simple and in his own half. It was only when he crossed the halfway line that his brain melted. KEA seems pretty similar in that respect.

nothing coming from our midfield .

Cant' help thinking we need to get some wingers on and push up the pitch. We've gone from being too adventurous in our first few games to far too defensive in my book. Could be forgiven for thinking this shit had been served up by TSM.

Not great. We haven't created any decent chances really. 48% possession away from home is great, but we don't do anything with it. Fulham will be disappointed they're not 1-0 up.

Better in the second half, Villa!

I don't think it was so much that we were poor as both teams have cancelled each other out.  We've both had a couple of chances but it's been pretty dull so far because we're just cancelling each other out.

Couldn't agree moe with Rissos earlier observation that we have improved this season, but that we are not up to the standard of most teams in the league. All we can really ask of Lambert is that he will improve us, so i'm not complaining, but I think it could be a long season.

well there is a pattern for this season where we offer little creatively in midfield and lack bite upfront. Pity the Benty boys can't play as two up front together.....or can they? Ireland looks confident at least and is pretty if not too effective.

Is it me or do we not run off the ball enough looking for space. Like watching subbuteo sometimes.

Not great by any means, but not too bad either. We seem determined to give a goal away at times.

We've had a fair amount of possession, but have moved the ball slowly whilst Fulham have worked hard to close us down.

Hopefully a bit more space as the game wears on. We need more movement and presence from the two experienced guys up front.

Failing that, get the Belgian lad on.

Baker will do well to run that injury off. Looked like he went over on his ankle badly. Will be interesting to see who goes centre half, Lowton probably. Thought Baker was very ropey early on but improved in the second half. Bennett with a bad mistake there again. Some of our defensive clearances have been terrible and would be fatal against a better side. Looking forward to seeing Lichaj at right back.

Benteke will surely come in and Nzogbia too I would think. Bent has hardly had a kick today and Holman for all his effort has no quality on the ball

I think we will stay up, but will be bottom of the league at some point in the process too. We need Dunne back, Petrov properly replaced and a winger with the ability to make something from nothing.

Lerner won't give us that. He will probably look to flog a few prized assets until one day there are none left onlya bunch of youngers who are all heart but no quality.

As bad as we are, we're nowhere near as shit as QPR. or Norwich.

16th-17th wouldn't surprise me, but I think the ineptness of other clubs will see us safe this year.

The performances against Swansea and Man City weren't so long ago, even though it feels like it. Lambert can and will turn it around.

Well thats it then. Remember those first 30mins against West Ham? we looked very much as if we were going the right way....and now its hard to look positive.

In the league, the match commentator said, Agbonlahor hasnt scored for 26 games. Bent doesnt look as if he could score and Benteke has now missed a number of easy chances.

I cant see how they are going to improve.
