Available Saturday afternoon.

N'zog dropped for Bent.
-
Come on you Villa boys.
-
N'zog dropped for Bent.
I like the idea of that on current form.
-
Well I'm glad Bannan starts.
-
N'zog dropped for Bent.
actually not surprised about that. He'll play a part today, but I didn't want to see Ireland dropped. He needs a run of games, and he started to show some promise last week. Also, all of the good teams rotate their squads, and we should be working to the point where we are comfortable resting Gabby or Bent or Petrov. Obviously we don't have as much luxury today, but it is something we need to do as it also gives others a chance to stake their claim and keeps the squad on its toes.
-
Light-weight midfield ...
-
Come on you Villa boys
-
Come on Villa - make me smile for once. Might even be tempted to go out tonight if we win.
Bannan - hoping he will be the star we are longing for.
-
Well Done AM. No favorites as of yet..just picking on form..got guts to do that.
-
Jenas still injured then
-
Aston Villa: Given, Hutton, Dunne, Collins, Warnock, Bannan, Petrov, Delph, Ireland, Agbonlahor, Bent. Subs: N’Zogbia, Guzan, Clark, Herd, Albrighton, Weimann, Heskey.
Will Jenas ever be fit?!?
-
If McLeish is picking on form why did he get out of his way to get Hutton (who's been awful btw) when Herd performed really well and should still be given the chance?
And where the fuck is Jenas? What an injury prone signing.
-
N'zog dropped for Bent.

So do I. Still, I'm surprised, wan't sure if AM had the balls to drop him, especially with how N'Zogbia looking forward to playing his former club.
Come on Villa!
-
Hutton is one of the worst players we've had at the Villa in years. Chris Herd must be as gutted as I am that he was dropped for that waste of space.
-
Any streams?
-
Jenas has been injured for a couple of matches...hardly an eternity....We waited longer for downing...

Haven't the Rags got a game today?

Good to see CC on the bench.

A few links here. Not been the same since myp2p went down

Here you go, Paul:

-
Wigan have a midfield 5 incl Watson and McCarthy: could mean we're chasing the game.
-
Cheers chaps
-
I'd be a bit surprised if we play 4-4-2. We've only done that once, v Newcastle, and they played 442 too. Wigan will have 3 in the midfield, so I'd expect us to match that.
I reckon it just means shunting Gabby wide left from last week's team.
Pretty happy with that side personally, but we'll need Ireland and Gabby to be athletic and support Bent a la second half last Sunday. If they don't we'll struggle to connect Bent to the rest of the side
-
Looks more like a diamond in midfield actually at the moment

Villa on the ropes at home again. Tsk!
-
Under the cosh a bit.
-
this already has the feeling of a very tedious and frustrating afternoon
-
Bored already
-
Great chance that, lovely ball from Bannan. Should have buried it on replay.
-
Gabby should have done a lot better with that one.
-
Ooooh! Lovely stuff, there! Gabby probably should have done a little better, but good effort!
-
Ireland looks a threat. Nice to see him looking more involved - he and Bannan in the side is good.
Someone needs to tell Collins that we have midfielders to pass the ball, give it to them you useless lump!
-
I wonder if Randy got the chance to shake hands with the summer's number 1 target before the match.
-
Pretty decent start by us, I'd say. Bannan looking as lively as usual, Gabby involved plenty and Ireland just starting to buzz around the place. Not bad, so far.
-
The Chinese teachers (we have two of the blighters) at work, say that "Genting" is pronounced sort of "Yun Ding" and means, roughly, "at the summit of the clouds".
-
Dunney sniffing his armpits there.
-
Christ, the sight of Collins aimlessly swinging his leg at the ball is so depressing.
-
use the fucking midfield.
-
"Wigan stroking it around the park". Wigan. At Villa Park.
-
I wonder if Randy got the chance to shake hands with the summer's number 1 target before the match.
Ancellotti's there? (winky)
-
Might be worth putting money on Bruce being out of a job and MON the new manager of Sunderland by mid next week. 2-0 down at home to the Boggies
-
The forward thinking players are ok. The problem is getting them the ball.... Collins does not help that situation!
-
Christ, the sight of Collins aimlessly swinging his leg at the ball is so depressing.
Was just going to post the same thing - defensively he is pretty good, but his distribution is shocking. I know they've done well so far this year, but I do think we need to replace one of him or Dunne. I'd replace Collins.
-
@Opta-Stats "Villa have caused less people to stroke it than any other club in the world this season"
-
Great ball Barry, Bent should have got that on target.
-
blimey, this is pish
-
cracking ball by Given. Better move.
-
Nice link up there.
-
Good play again there, Bannan and Ireland at the heart of it. Cracking pass from Given to start it, too.
-
Nearly unzipped my flies at that move from Villa.
-
Is Randy here today, or is there something good on the telly in that America today?
-
This is dreadful. Again.
-
Bannan has a wonderful knack of hitting the ball into the heart of the opposition box straight to a Villa man. Gabby should have fed it back to the wee man then, not out to Delph.
-
Is Randy here today, or is there something good on the telly in that America today?
Afternoon, Risso.
-
This is dreadful. Again.
Really? I think we're doing OK. It's hardly Barcalons Vs Man Utd, but it's decent.
-
Why the fuck are there oompa loopmas there?
-
Good work the goalkeeper there.
-
great ball from Bannan. Bent should have scored.
-
Great goalkeeping by Al Habsi.
-
Bannan is just so good.
-
Gabby & Bazza wide or is Gabby up front?
-
Bent really should have done more with his chances so far today. Our poor shot success rate is hardly getting any better today.
At least our play from the two magicians in midfield is decent though.
-
I really don't like the diamond in midfield. I think it makes us ponderous and narrow
Bannan playing really well though. Lovely vision
-
Villa look so much better with BB in the midfield
-
Fuck me. Great ball to Gabby, who makes a good run and then plays a shit ball with Ireland making a good run.
-
Importantly though, we have created much more that usual - admittedly mostly through Bannan being able to hit passes defences don't expect. Not sure our forwards do either yet!
Got to take chances though.
-
At least we seem to have a bit of invention, even if things aren't really coming off at the minute.
-
might have written the Bruce obituary too soon. 2-2
-
Have to say, this is much better football.
-
Ireland getting into good positions, but poor shot
-
Ireland getting more involved.
-
This is really frustrating...Ireland can't finish, and Delph is having a shocker. Bannan spreading passes well
-
We've got plenty of technically more than decent footballers, and they all show little bits here and there, but the cohesion to tie them all together is missing, so it's a bit random.
-
A goal will calm us down and we may get a few more!
-
oh for an Ashley Young right now. A bit of magic...
-
A goal will calm us down and we may get a few more!
If we score one, I reckon the tension will fade away, and we'll get several more.
It's whether we'll score one that worries me.
-
A goal will calm us down and we may get a few more!
Lay off the vodka.
-
BEAUTY!!!!!!!
-
Bloody hell. Gabby put some power behind that.
-
Lovely ball AGAIN from Barry
-
Hutton - 1 mile in space , cant cross first man :(
-
Superb goal by Gabby. Whisper it but he's becoming the real deal.
-
Yes! Brilliant!
-
Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..............gabby
-
UNZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP!
-
Great goal Gabby.
-
How bad is Hutton, seriously shit. Out of position constantly and can't cross for toffee. Awful.
-
Gotta love the Gabs.
-
we're back then....
-
This is all much better. It's so refreshing to have options in midfield! The only thing I can think of is that it would be even better if we had Makoun instead of Delph in the middle at the moment, but hey.
-
Get Bannan on the ball more.
-
Hopefully Ireland will be taken off, I don't think he's even completed a successful pass all game?
Cracking goal from Gabby, and a much much better start than last week.
-
How bad is Hutton, seriously shit. Out of position constantly and can't cross for toffee. Awful.
He gets sold more times than a dodgy car.
-
Funny game. Slow, ponderous, and with an odd shape. But we've had 3-4 really good chances. I'd be inclined to bring N'Zogbia on for Delph tho we need to see if Ireland's injured first.
Bent should have had a couple. Gabby and Bannan the standouts for me. Bannan looks really good. Confident, keen to make the killer pass. Doesn't get his head down if he makes a mistake.
-
How bad is Hutton, seriously shit. Out of position constantly and can't cross for toffee. Awful.
Have to say, I normally don't like to write players off, but Hutton thus far looks like one of the worst players we've had for a long time.
-
What a top quality strike from Gabby, freakin world class, time, placement, picked his spot and whack top of the net.
And that cross form Gabby for Benty, DB really should have had that....
-
Delph....A liability.
-
Beauty of a goal - but Delph has almost cost us twice with shit passing.
-
Good first half, that. We really can play some good stuff at times, and Gabby's goal was superb. Bannan and Ireland (one misplaced pass aside) have been impressive, and the defense look in control of things. Not the best half from Delph again, but Petrov is doing a very good job in there.
Promising.
-
more goal to secure our 3 point.
-
Fabian Delph is shite. He couldn't pass water.
-

Mouthwatering mate, he's just booked his England spot.
-
Hopefully Ireland will be taken off, I don't think he's even completed a successful pass all game?
Remind me who was that setting up Hutton down the right just two minutes ago?
He's not been great but he's finding space to make a threat.
-
Delph really has been crap. He keeps on giving it away. It looks like his mind's not there at all.
-

Ireland has played well in my opinion, and I'm pleased to see how involved he wants to be - dropping deep to get the ball, putting in tackles. I hope they're signs that he is getting his head right.
-
How bad is Hutton, seriously shit. Out of position constantly and can't cross for toffee. Awful.
He gets sold more times than a dodgy car.
I know its early days, but with money tight,he seems like a player we didn't need to buy,not with Herd,Cuellar, even bloody Beye is on a par with him.
-
I'd like us to get another early in the second to make sure but so far so good.
-
How bad is Hutton, seriously shit. Out of position constantly and can't cross for toffee. Awful.
He gets sold more times than a dodgy car.
He is shocking - Luke Young for him a a serious downgrade
Delph is having another shocker - is there a worse midfielder in the league?
I know some folk on here have a hard on foe him - but for me the only claret and blue he should be close to should have a Burnley or Scunthorpe crest on it
rant over
-
It would be criminal if McLeish takes off Bannan before Delph.
-

Have to say, I normally don't like to write players off, but Hutton thus far looks like one of the worst players we've had for a long time.
He looks poor, but has had 3 very inconsistent seasons with the confidence being knocked out of him, and has put some good performances in before now. I know it is hard, but we have to give him a season to sort it. If he doesn't, then ship him out. Luke Young was a much better player mind, as is Chris Herd at the moment!
As for Ireland, I would give him time too. The more football he gets the stronger he gets, the more hungry he looks. His forward runs are excellent and something we have not had in there for a long time, he could have been put clean through 2-3 times with better balls first half, has tackled back and looks interested for the first time this season.
Bannan needs to be central every week at home. The boy is pure class, that left foot is like a wand.
Delph still has the give it away bug from last week - so frustrating - he has potential, and you can't leave him out today with the players around him as we would be even more lightweight, but he needs to learn to keep the ball when under pressure.

when we bought Hutton, Cuellar and Lichaj were out (and still are), Herd had just got injured and that left us with Beye. Young wanted to leave so we couldn't just remain with Beye.
-
I still think we're playing to deep and need both Dunne and Collins to bring the ball 15 yards before passing it on because too often we're not getting enough players forward.
An huge improvement on the first half last week but know there's plenty more we can give, especially from midfield. Wigan are as expected, pass it about well but no real threat up front.
-
Overall I think Wigan have looked more comfortable in possession and look more creative going forward, our midfield is non existent IMO which is why every time Wigan come forward within seconds they are down our throat.
But but but............we are 1-0 up....

Are you, er.....are you OK, mate?
-
I have to say but fair play to Pardew. Cockrings for owners, hasn't had much of anything to spend, lost their best players, yet he's got his team playing some very good stuff and they're sitting 3rd right now. He came into the job as an unpopular signing on the back of them canning Hughton who was popular. He's done very well.

Ireland still limping. NZogbia on for him would be the obvious choice.

I've already said it, but it's worth repeating. Hutton is shit and so is Jenas, if you factor in his unreliability. Complete waste of money.
-
Good tackle from Hutton. Hope he improves quickly - he really needs to.
-
I realise i'm in a minority, but I think Hutton has been ok today. I stress ok, not excellent.

Herd is a natural midfielder not a right back, so we needed an experienced right back and hutton was the best available

We really should have bought a defensive midfielder instead.

Hutton looked equally rubbish at Spurs, too, though. He looks disturbingly like a case of "looks good in Scotland, but ..."

I don't need to - I'm asking whether of all the right backs around, whether Hutton was the best, and finding it hard to think he was.
How about not selling Luke Young? In fact, how about playing Herd? Or Beye?
-
Any links that actually work?? tia
-
Great effort Banna.
-
Oooo nice from Bannan.
Hutton dodges ANOTHER penalty bullett
-
Hutton crap
-
Hmmm. We still are playing too deep, in my opinion. I suppose that's how McLeish wants it (and MON always seemed to ask the team to sit very deep, too), but it means that we give so much ground to the opposition when they get the ball. They always seem to be able to just walk forward towards our penalty area.
Still, we're looking good enough today.....for now.

as i already said herd isnt a right back full stop, he was a fill in when we had no options. young was in the last year of his contract, he wanted to leave so we got what we could for him. beye is a waste of space.
for the money we had a available, yes hutton was the best we could get because we just arent an attractive team to top qaulity players at the moment
-
Played Stephen.
-
Would it be THAT bad an idea to give Beye a game?
-
Bent needs a bit confidence...will come..
-
Strange sub and crap free kick. WOuld have but albrighton on.
-
Shame for Ireland, hope that's not too serious as he was just starting to look a bit handy. I don't know if I'd have bought Heskey on, but we'll see. I'd have sent on Albrighton, I think.
-

Isnt'a right back, full stop? He was a fill in and looked better than Hutton has.
It's nothing to do with the quality of players we can attract, Hutton doesn't even look good enough to be in the top flight, let alone playing for us.
Wes Brown, for example, cost one quarter of what Hutton did, and although not particularly brilliant, he is compared with Hutton.
-
Fair play Ireland had his best game for us I reckon. Not great, but an improvement.
I would have NZogbia for him but I guess he will be on for Bent soon.
-
About Hutton - i guess Harry put him with the youth for a reason.
-
BENTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
-
Beauty!
-
Fair play Ireland had his best game for us I reckon. Not great, but an improvement.
Agreed, if nothing else he looked to be putting in the effort, which is the first time I've said that since he joined.
-
FAP! FAP! FAP!
-
Gabby is on fire! Great goal from Bent.
-
GET IN!!!
-
Fantastic Gabby, Bent scores in front of Holte.
-
Gabby is in some fucking form isn't he!!! Nice finish Benty too!!!
-
YEEEEEESSSSSSS!!
Darren Bent, you beauty! And brilliant AGAIN from Agbonlahor!
-
Gabby has put in the complete performance this afternoon.
-
BEAUTY! Fantastic run from Gabby
-
Magic Gabby. Benty finally scores in front of the Holte!
Brilliant!
-
Need to get hold of the ball a bit more, seem to have lost our way a bit since the sub.
Oh and err...Gabby you beauty!
-
Honest to McGrath - HOW FUCKING ACE IS GABBY???
note: Use of capitals is entirely appropriate
-
Welcome back Gabby. His best game in a long time.
-
Well, in fairness we haven't looked as able to keep the ball since Bannan went wide and we are going more direct to Heskey, but what a piece of brilliance from Gabby.
-
Bannan saves a certain Wigan goal

villa are cutting wages and age of the squad, hutton is younger than brown both have played champions league football, i know which i would have gone with and i agree with mcleish
hutton will come good he just needs time.
-
Gabby having game of his life (beside the 8 min hattrick)..he is awesome.
-
Well done Gab,good to get Bent on the score sheet again. Be good to round it off with NZog coming on and scoring.
-
I hope Capello isn't watching, the last thnig we need is Gabby playing for England.
-
Unbelieveable as it is there are still some people on this forum who don't think Gabby is any good.
Hopefully, today he has made them see the error of their views. He has put in a complete forward's performance today.
-
East Fife 3 Forfar 3
Could this wind up East Fife 5 Forfar 4?

for the money we had a available, yes hutton was the best we could get because we just arent an attractive team to top qaulity players at the moment
Isnt'a right back, full stop? He was a fill in and looked better than Hutton has.
It's nothing to do with the quality of players we can attract, Hutton doesn't even look good enough to be in the top flight, let alone playing for us.
Wes Brown, for example, cost one quarter of what Hutton did, and although not particularly brilliant, he is compared with Hutton.
villa are cutting wages and age of the squad, hutton is younger than brown both have played champions league football, i know which i would have gone with and i agree with mcleish
hutton will come good he just needs time.
also brown had already joined sunderland before we sold young so he wouldnt have been an option

any links?..usual shite unavailable
-
If we knew Luke Young wanted to leave (and, to be honest, when does a player wanting to leave mean you automatically have to let them go?) then we could have gone for Brown.
The point is, on evidence thus far, he's gash.
I'd honestly rather see Beye get a game.
-
Fuck me, that would have been one of the best goals ever if that had gone in from Stan
-
great shot from petrov, great save aswell

Decent stream :)

Since when did Petrov learn to shoot? Crackin' effort Stan.

East Fife 3 Forfar 3
Could this wind up East Fife 5 Forfar 4?
surely East Fife 4 Forfar 5?

It'd be nice if we could keep a clean sheet and avoid the almost inevitable nail biting final ten minutes for a change. Be nice to see it through to the end in a leisurely fashion.

Either'd be nice.

OMG! Here he comes!
I actually liked Maloney. Clearly wasn't all right mentally, though.
-
Maloney coming on
-
Competition question: who's the smallest between Bannan and Maloney?
-
Maloney coming on
Shit Barry Bannan! He's just a shit Barry Bannan!
-
Hang on, this twat plays for Wigan? Not so fucking homesick now, huh?
-
blimey. very good reception for Maloney
-
Shame, lovely ball and great finish there.

I think he could have done well for us had he got more of a chance. He'll go and score now of course so that we have to live on our wits for the last minutes,
-
superb Shay Given
-
Offside, but lovely finish from Bent. Hope he's back in the groove.
-
blimey. very good reception for Maloney
Was it him that scored direct from a free kick for us at Chelsea (I think)?
Seem to recall that felt like the first time we'd done so for about 100 years.

i think mcleish did know this but i think he was always interested in hutton as per the journos reports all through august, but a club needed to take young from us before we could buy.
its no coincidense that o'niell (who brought him), macdonald, houllier and mcliesh have all otped to not play beye.
as i said hutton is the better option to beye and i think he will come good, he hasnt been great but he could be alot worse!

Benty coming off for Zog, glad he got a goal.
-
Bent getting a breather, N'Zog on. Come on Charlie!!
-
N'Zogbia on for Bent. Good thinking. He's actually quite pro-active on the substitutions front, is McLeish.

In the 4-4 right? Was it a free kick. God I'm fucking going senile
-
That sub makes sense. Zog and Gab wide (presumably Zog on the right and Gab on the left), Heskey to the main target man role and Bannan to the centre. We could keep the ball well here.

I think the free kick was against Man City and was his first goal for us. Think he might have got a free-kick against Chelsea too (the one Cech should have saved but let slip past). He definitely got two goals for us that day.

Great result so far but on the live stream, Villa Park sounds like a swimming gala in progress.
-
I don't know whether it's the new fitness guy's input, or if he is playing a more conservative game (although he doesn't seem to be to me), but Petrov's stamina is remarkably improved.
-
fuck me. Hutton looks lost
-
we've stopped attacking again. Why do we do this all the time?
-

I'd just thought that t.o
