Title: Habib Beye is wonderful
Post by: dave.woodhall on August 29, 2011, 07:56:01 PM
There's a rumour he's off to Hull. So if any Hull fans are reading, please don't listen to anyone who says he's no good. They're just trying to keep him here. He is, truly, a cross between Carlos Alberto and Paolo Maldini.

Well, fair enough and good ridd, I mean good luck to him, but............................we can't keep leaking players like this without serious replenishment of our player pool.

I agree but also think we can't stand in the way of a player who wants the chance to play CL football, after all this time with us.

When he first joined the Villa - Habib was going to rent my friends house (who'd moved to Dubai) in Four Oaks. Deal was all done and about to be signed only for  Habib's wife to turn up unannounced with a tape measure to check the size of the garage as he was worried his Ferrari wouldn't fit inside. Apparently it didn't so they pulled out.

Says it all really......let's hope they have bigger garages in Hull!

After waiting patiently for his chance, Habib has wowed this season with his appearances.  And yet it appears this was just a ruse by the management to once again part with one of our best players.  I'm fuming.

I remember bumping into him at a very nice hotel in bar in Brum about 18 months ago. He was there with Young and Petrov, plus their other halfs... Young and Petrov were pretty professional, drinking cokes while Beye was doing shots! Sums him up really.

In an age of money grabbing mercenaries, the type who are only interested in the next Ferrari or Bentley - Habib Beye reminds us of older values.  Of a time when a player would just play for the shirt, desperate to make the fans happy.

Villa fans used to have a famous song My Eyes Have Seen The Glory (that Tottingham have since rogered to death and claimed as their own).  Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever see us win the  FA Cup again -never mind reclaim the outright record.

But at least I can say I witnessed Monday, Tuesday Habib Beye at his majestic best.

You can't blame him wanting to go. Hull is one of the nicest places in Britain to live, with charming beach front bars, top quality restaurants and it's very own micro-climate that at times makes you feel like you're on the Cote d'Azur.
And Championship League football too.

Good to see there's talk of a permanent reminder, but who needs a statue? I think his prominent position in the club's brilliant Villa 50 series this summer stands as a fitting monument to one of Villa's finest post-war players. It'll be tough if he departs for The Stadium of Fish, but at least we'll always have those wonderful and plentiful reserve team memories. Legend, in this instance, is the right - and perhaps only - suitable shorthand.

Maybe this sounds hippie, but we've enjoyed the services of Habib Beye for several seasons now, wouldn't it be egoistical to keep him, rather than let another set of football fans experience not only the wonder of Habib Beye at right back, but the magic of Habib Beye at right back ... in your team?

I dont understand why people want him to stay. Hes hardly been involved and like salifou despite a cult status its best interest for him to move on. I think its clear hes not to be involved in alex mac plans well how i see it.  Okie i respect people dont want another to leave us further short but maybe we dont need him as we have promise of herd and lichaj.
I mean herd did very well and if we dont sign a right back then i think these two can vie for this role.  beye wont be missed by those calling on him to stay if  they look at situation in all honesty.

You're wrong there. I usually respect your judgement and regard you as a pretty shrewd judge of a player, as witnessed by your championing of Alan Smith and Jimmy Bullard, but Habib Beye is class. Letting him go would be akin to the time we passed over the chance to sign Ian Rush when he was with Chester.

I just got off work, so I'm all knackered and messed up in the head. What was I thinking? I'll practice in the mirror first and use other suitable names like Penrice, Harewood, Salifou, Callaghan as a dress rehearsal before I try this again.

Gary Penrice is a pile of balls. In fact he's worse less than a pile of balls

It's a sad day for this club, not only losing this defensive titan but also coming to realise that we just cannot compete with the Hull City's of this world.

Lee when have we ever competed with Hull City FC? They always have been a step away from us!

Disgraceful decision.  Sack teh board!!!1

No don't be silly. Losing Habib will be devastating enough, to lose Paul Faulkner would be unbearable.

First they came for Ashley Young
And I didn't speak out because I didn't rate Ashley Young. we had Habib Beye

Then they came for Stewart Downing
And I didn't speak out because I didn't rate Stewart Downing. so what we had Habib Beye

Then they came for Luke Young
And I didn't speak out because I didn't rate Luke Young. we still had Habib Beye

Then they came for Habib .....

obviously had his head turned. It's not just the likes of man utd and spurs at this sort of thing.
Rather than run the risk of damaging dressing room spirit, I think it's best if we don't stand in  the way of habibs ambition, and part on amicable terms.
This one will silence the"why did we sell Cahill" voices for some time to come,of that, there is no doubt.

With a heavy heart it's best that Habib goes. It's scandalous that a player of his calibre and dedication isn't showcasing his talent for 90 mins week in week out.

Although I fear it will come back to bite us when he scores a hat-trick against us next season in the PL.  :(

I think this is the turning point we were all talking about on the other thread. Forget draws against stoke, carling cup finals, fa cup semi's, uefa round of 32 ties, Mon walking, houlliers comments etc, this is THE defining point of my villa supporting history and the board are making the wrong decision.

Gutted.

When certain clubs retire shirts in honour of former players who die, I'd like to see Villa retire Wednesday if Beye leaves.

Monday, Tuesday, Habib Beye.  It just feels right somehow.  Sheffield Habib Beye has a nice ring to it as well.

I know that he hasn't actually died, but a part of me would if he leaves.

Really? I find it relatively straightforward. Habib Beye is one of the finest players to have ever pulled off the claret and blue shirt. His wit, wisdom and all-round good-guy persona has endeared him to literally tens of people.

Sob!

BeyeWatch (http://www.beyewatch.co.uk/)

To the tune of Sally Cinnamon by the Stone Roses...

"Until Habib we were never happy
    We had no right back
Then we signed him as a defender
    Who could also attack.

    He bombs down the right
    All day and all night
Oh we wish we had more
    Players that we adore

    Ba-ba-ba-ba Beye, he is brilliant
    He just never gives up
How we wish we could see him at Wembley
    Lifting the FA Cup

He loves to play in black and white
He’s always up for the fight
He won’t back down he won’t give in
Habib Beye, you are our world, wo’rrrld

See him put the wingers back
In the place that they belong
On their arses, on the touchline, in front of the Geordie throng
    Sent to us from Marseille
Habib Beye, you are our world"

To the theme tune from 'The Adventures of Robin Hood' by Carl Sigman

    "Habib Beye, Habib Beye,
    Gliding down the wing.
    Habib Beye, Habib Beye,
    Putting Crosses in.
He’s dynamite in attack, Fearless in defence
Habib Beye, Habib Beye, Habib Beye"

To Lisa Stansfields abysmal 'I've been around the world (and I can't find my baby)...

"Just got in the ground and I, I, I,
    I can't find Habib Beye
And I've been told the news by some guy, that
    He aint gonna play
And I don't know where he may be
    Habib Beye
    but we'd better find him"

To the Killers' 'Mr Brightside

"He came here from outta Marseille and now he’s doing just fine.
His name is Habib Beye and he’s got it all

We play him at right back and he loves to attack
Creating chances all day when he’s on the ball

Habib Beye, you have always got to play
We are stronger when you’re picked
You don’t care when you get kicked
And it’s worth the price we pay
Just to watch you Habib beye
Never on the left are you

    You’re on the right side"

To the tune of 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen (currently X-Factor Alexndra's UK number 1 and best performed in our view by Jeff Buckley).

"Now I've heard of players from Senegal
Faye and Diao, I've seen them all
But you don't really care for El Hadji Diouf do ya?
    The right back king
    That Big Sam bought
The immovable wall, that Blackburn fought
The twenty one who's name is Habib Beye

    Habib Beye
    Habib Beye
    Habib Beye
    Habib Beye"

"Nowadays everybody wanna talk like they got something to say
But nothin comes out when they move they lips
Just a buncha gibberish
And muthahubbards act like they forgot about Beye"

To the tune of 'Some Might Say' By Oasis:

"Some might say Bosingwa's the prem's best right back...
Go and tell it to those who've seen Habib Beye
Cos some might say he will not only fight back
He will destroy all that stands in his way ...

Some might say there is only one Habib Beye
Some might say there is only one Habib Beye"

"sunday monday habib beye
tuesday wednesday habib beye
thursday friday
saturday
habib beye
habib beye"

Arsenal coming in with a late bid apparently.  As if.  When Beye has clearly signalled his intentions to go to Hull!

Artsene makes wild and reckless promises of top 4, CL games and free tickets to the National Opera. It'll take a lot more than that to make our lad swerve from his honest working class no-nonsense French/Senagalese aspirations which have led him unashamedly to focus upon Hull as the platform - dare I say stage? - for the next element of his creative work, involving the bit where he comes back for the weekend and water skis down the face of the Gas Street Basin.

I have been going to Villa Park for 45 years and Habib Beye is the best full back I have seen at our club - John Gidman is not fit to lace his boots.

Didn't Big Eck mention about him turning him into a centre half and stopping Heskey from taking over in that position ? If he goes to Hull, they have got themselves a future Paul McGrath.
