Is Makoun still injured then? I'm glad to see Delph get a start.

So what's experimental about that then? Maybe the experiment will be trying not to concede sloppy goals.

Agreed though I think we will take a mauling today - Gooners are normally very good with no pressure.

4 - 3 - 3?

I like it, potentially. If Makoun was in for Petrov.

4-5-1?
Title: Re: Arsenal v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: Shrek on May 15, 2011, 03:14:54 PM
I still think we will win today, that is the line up i would have picked.

Delph in a midfield three should work well for him.

Post by: holtepaul on May 15, 2011, 03:15:43 PM
Thank god

Thats the team I said should have started last week. Still think we will get thumped but at least we are at least trying to get a result
Title: Re: Arsenal v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: eamonn on May 15, 2011, 03:16:03 PM
Hopefully Delph doesn't have his arse handed to him on a plate like his performance there last season. Mind you, they were all pretty crud that day.

Carlos Kickaball should be in for Walker or one of the clowns in the centre.

And Clark in for Collins

4-2-3-1?
Title: Re: Arsenal v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: Somniloquism on May 15, 2011, 03:19:57 PM
Or 4-4-1-1 /4-4-2 with Ashley up front and Delph on the wing (he played there for Leeds alot).

Hope Pires comes on, it will be wonderful for him to take the acclaim of the adoring Emirates.

I think that's a wise enough team selection, to be honest, and probably the formation we'll be using next season I think. Makoun in for Petrov and a couple of new centre-backs (maybe Clark and Cuellar?), and Albrighton in for Young.

Anyway, a draw seems like a possibility today, so fingers crossed!

Most sensible team we could have picked in the circumstances and given what is available...

I feel slightly more confident than I did so make it just 4-0 to Arsenal...

Good side but again, no Cuellar and no Bannan.  Seeing GMac in charge of the team is like letting a Vallet park your new car.  He might be paid to do it but it still makes you grimace.

I like the change in formation and Delph coming in.

I do not like the fact that Dunne is still in the team.

Sadly I think the best we can do is to avoid a spanking, we are a team in total disarray with a manager who is out of the picture and a person picking the team who is out of his depth.  The only thing that can help us get a result today is a fighting spirit that has been missing or Arsenal don't turn up.

In fairness it's not going to make any difference if that's the message the players are getting. It's not like they have done much when the pressure was on.

The problem we have now is that two of our central midfielders are on a yellow and the other, Delph, isn't quite on the pace. Might be Bradley time or even Clarke (if he's on the bench)?

Unbelievable isn't it? To think we've just pissed away that many points in a season where it's hardly been brilliant from 4th spot down. I think like pretty much everyone on here we expect something bad to happen quickly into the 2nd half. But think back to games against Fulham A, Man U home, Bolton A to name just three that spring immediately to mind, and you are left wondering "what if?"

Yeah, i remember that 3-2 at Arse a few years back when 2-0 up at HT. Not getting carried away, but very good first half. Formation looks good, although Delph needs to get with the program, and the defence still looks ropey when pressurised. We will concede in the second half, but hopefully we can hang on, maybe get another ourselves on the break. NRC looks very good in this formation, and Petrov benefits from having 2 with him, albeit Delph looks like half at the moment. The 3 up top have enough quality to make things happen even without much support. Milner would be great in that formation.

Bents got the Arse defence in his pocket.

Keep the ball better, and pass quicker, Bent could get another 2 or 3 here.........hopefully.

Better system, suits NRC and Petrov, protects the back 4 better.Just Collins and Dunne need to cut out their normal mistakes.I'm not that bothered today Really, i just want an end to this season.

Why no Clark or Makoun today?

It is very amaze to see the 1st half performance and score. All play a good passing with fighting style.
Defender: All play superb. Especially Walker, his speed can shut Ashavin down.
Midfield: We have a strong midfield with Petrov and NRC. Both Wingers also work well create opportunity constantly. Only Delph that is very quiet.
Attacker: Bent is marvelous. IMO The 1st goal should be goal of the season.

2nd half we need to be aware of the 2nd yellow card of NRC and Petrov.

Good Luck for All

It always is with Villa leading. Apart from about 10 minutes in the game against Blackburn, for the last 4-5 years we have been in the nervy holding on poistion almost everytime we are in the lead.

That was utterly needless from Delph, who I think is playing pretty poorly in truth. Young and Downing doing a solid job defensively, but disappointing offering going forward.

Hey Arsenal. Enjoy you're parade around the pitch.

Wigan last minute winner.

Fucks up the Noses even more.

Rangers get the title, we get an unexpected win and Noses could get relegated. If Carlsberg did weekends at the football they couldn't match this.

Do you think anyone watching OUR game would be good enough to let us know if the whistle has gone and what the frigging score is?

Cannot believe we won at Arsenal. Huge summer ahead. Come on, Randy: new management, new defence. Relaxing game next Sunday.

Whistle just gone. I can't believe Brad scored from his own goal line just before that.

Bent made all the difference. Without him we would have struggled today and previously. We have to keep him now.
Today was an advertisement for himself.

I agree, but next week when Blosers demise to the Chumpionship again will be alot sweeter!
