1-1
Downing
Pennant
-
Comfortable win.
-
Pressure is off both the team and the crowd.
I think Stoke will be a little flat after their great result on Sunday.
I also think we are due to stuff someone.
Villa 4 - Stoke 1
-
Tough this.
Will they be on a high from Wembley, or will they be easing up to avoid inuries?
I'll go 2-1 to us
Downing, Heskey
-
3-2 home win with Bent amongst the goals
I hope GED doesn't tinker too much
-
Difficult to call. Do they carry on from where they left off against Bolton? Or get that giddy with cup final excitement that the foot comes off the gas? I think the latter. Nice sunny day, plenty of goals and the Villa to give them a panning.
-
The good news for Saturday is that the sun will be out and it will be roasting.
Ideal standing outside the pub weather, pre and post match, shooting the shit.

Will he not be a bit busy playing right-wing for Stoke?
-
Stoke have lost the last 8 ( I think) away games on the trot.I hate coming up against statistics like this.
Still going for 3-1 Villa win
Bentx2 Petrov ( who will want revenge following Pennants dive at their place), Huth for them.
-
2-1 Villa Bent and AY.
-
think the stoke players will go AWOL on this one. they'll try but i think we know what their priority is now. 2-1
-
think the stoke players will go AWOL on this one. they'll try but i think we know what their priority is now. 2-1
Agree with this greg except the score, which I think will be 3 - 0.
I just feel another Sheffield Utd from 2007 vintage performance coming.
-
Yes, I agree too. Stoke won't be as physical as they normally are. They will have their minds on designer suits.
-
Villa win 3-1 as Stoke literally take their eyes off the ball!
-
Us 3 - 2 Them
Bent (2) & Ash for us, Etherington & Jones for them.
-
I'd be more confident if Stoke had lost last Sunday - heads would have dropped at missing out on the chance to go to an FA Cup Final for the first time in their history, and Pulis may have had a job lifting them to focus on getting points to avoid getting dragged into a real relegation scrap. With the win they'll be on a high, they'll want to keep the momentum going, and players will be playing for their place in the final (not that there's much competition in their squad). I'm going for 2-2
-
Won't be easy but playing them straight after the FA Cup semi-final is great timing - only bettered by playing them just before the final. 2-1 to us; a low-key match with us coasting to a 2-0 lead, them scoring five minutes from time with their first attack of the day, cue panicky closing stages.
Our boys look like they've got a bit of belief back.
-
Think we are due to score early. Followed by a frenzied crowd driving us to a 4-0 win. Hope he starts with the same team and gives Gabby a full half hour .......
-
Think they must be on some sort of come down after last weekend,we're finally playing with some confidence, and when did we last win three on the trot,a year or so ago?
2-1 Villa.
-
2-0 win.. Bent and Young (pen)
-
Stoke players will be pulling out of any 50/50s that's for sure
They are safe in the table so we should win if we are focused on the job
-
3-1
Bent hat-trick, Etherington for them.
-
I'll go for 3-2 Villa
Bent
Downing
Walker
3 points and safe !
-
3-0. Young pen 16, Bent 51, Agbonlahor 76.
-
2-1.
Heskey x2 and Pennant
-
3-0 villa.
Downing,
Bent,
Agbonlahor.
-
Win. 3-1
Downing hat trick. About time he gets one me thinks. Been outstanding for us this season. Etherington for them.
-
3-1 villa -lets keep the momentum and try and get a top 8 finish which considering the problems we have had would be quite an achievement and set us up for an exciting summer in the transfer market.
-
4-2 Villa, Downing x2, Gabby and Bent to net infront of the Holte
-
Stoke players won't be pulling out of any tackles, their manager won't let them.
I think if they'd lost in the semi final we would have had a better chance, it's going to be a tough game for us, can't see us not conceding either so I think it'll be either 1-1 or probably more likely 2-2.
-
I think the combination of our last minute winner at West Ham and their minds on Wembley will see us play with the shackles off against a team not quite up for it.
3-0 Young A, Bent and Downing.
-
They dont want to be getting any silly little injurys now do they, what with Wembley and all.
Hopefully they put in a totally half arsed performance and we steamroll them 3-0.
Bent x 2
A Young
-
I hope Stoke play really well and we still defend like Gladiators and blow them away with our strikeforce.
-
Stoke have lost the last 8 ( I think) away games on the trot.I hate coming up against statistics like this.
I know what you mean but the team who met them after their 7th away loss on the trot would've said the same. Ditto the 5th, 6th etc... They have that record cos they are useless away from home. We are a good side at VP and I expect a 3-1 win.
-
Draw for me as Stoke will grace us with their free flowing football and we will lump it up for a free kick or corner and equalise.
-
think the stoke players will go AWOL on this one. they'll try but i think we know what their priority is now. 2-1
Agree with this greg except the score, which I think will be 3 - 0.
I just feel another Sheffield Utd from 2007 vintage performance coming.
What a game and a match that was. If this Saturday is half that good, I'm sure we'll all be happy.
-
Well it's about time we beat them at home. I'll go for a comfortable 3-0 win.
-
Well it's about time we beat them at home. I'll go for a comfortable 3-0 win.
We beat them 1-0 last season.
-
2-2.
Can see Jones and Etherington causing our defence some problems.
Unless Pulis rests them in which case we'll win.
-
Produce 2nd half form from West Ham and we will cruise this one -
Potters will still be celebrating their un-expected massacre of the Trotters-
3-1 home win Bent with a brace & Young7 and guaranteed safety margin
-
I know Carew won't be playing but I hope he gets a good reception from the fans he does meet.
-
3-1 home win.
-
I know Carew won't be playing but I hope he gets a good reception from the fans he does meet.
I'm sure he will. He's loved!
-
4-1 Villa.
Bent x 4
Bent (og) for them.
-
I know Carew won't be playing but I hope he gets a good reception from the fans he does meet.
This was the fixture in which booted the corner flag at the kid in the Holte after scoring the winner was it not? (By accident of course)
-
This season has been one of one step forward two steps back. Everytime we've had a good result or performance the next one has been atrocious so i honestly dont know about this one. 2-2. Can Carew play in this one?
-
Not a foregone conclusion Stoke will be in Europe next season...

-
Well it's about time we beat them at home. I'll go for a comfortable 3-0 win.
We beat them 1-0 last season.
Really, I could have sworn we have conceded late goals against them in the last 2 games. For some reason I was thinking we have had a 2-2 and a loss of 3-2. Must be age getting the better of me.
-
If Legion is still on holiday - home win
-
Dont worry. I put some class As in his luggage. By the time he gets home the nights will be drawing in again and he'll be walking like John Wayne.
-
Be interesting to see how Houlliers tactics cope with them, they ahd a knack of upsetting Mon's teams and have got better since.
Never been one for my win certainties but I think we will
-
Gone for a home win all day long.
We owe them one after recent years - some of which have been deserved admittedly, but I think at least 2-0 to us.
-
This could easily go the same way as the Ipswich home game in 78 just before they lifted the trophy, an emphatic 6-1 win in the sun against an opposition with their minds elsewhere
Pretty sure geddis played for them that day
-
Did you not know. We got Darren Bent,
I say we got Darren
Bent.
4-0 Bent brace Ash Collins ..........
-

I don't think so Wiki - Pullis is a hard taskmaster and Stoke always 'put a shift in'.

No but neither was Bobby Robson with the aforementioned Ipswich side
Hard to judge Stoke, one week they're winning 3-0 at the Hawthorns then they'll lose 0-3 at The Boleyn
I just think they're effectively 1 game away from their summer hols now
-
I will be in the Trinity Upper, with the the wife and kids so I'm expecting a 5-0 goalfest with non-stop singing and the Witton Lane doing a non-stop "Mexican" Wave.
-
Trinity Upper? There is more life in Dave Woodhall's underpants.
-
3-1 To Villa
Bent x2
Ash Young.
-
Im going to say draw. I think 1-1
Long throws galore and I think someone will get sent off for them
-
2-1 win!
-
Stoke will still be on cloud nine after their semi-final win, they have a pretty poor away record and have home games in which to pick up the points they need to ensure safety, while Villa finally have turned the corner.
We'll win at a canter. 3-0.
-
I hate this fixture.
Stoke players won't want to be getting injured between now and the cup final. We're growing in confidence.
Time to shake the monkey off our back and beat this horrible, horrible rabble.
-
2-0 Villa
Young and some fella who came from the mackems. Banging them in apparently.
-
after the Lord Mayor's and all that. 2-0 Villa - Bent and Ash
-
I am going to be at Villa Park for the first time in circa 8 years on Sat as I am back from Sing on my stag weekend and I managed to convince the lads to take me to the Villa! I am going for 3-0 Villa with a Bent double and Downing.
Up the Villa!
-
Villa 2 Bent, young Stoke 0
-
Anyone remember the game against Ipswich in 1978 - a week or so before the FA cup final and they rolled over for us, 6 - 1 I think the score was.
-
With Gary Mac in charge and the reputed lack of confidence in him, my confidence levels about this game have just dipped
-

That's in the past now.Still confident the team will want to win and hopefully will win.We need to make a racket though on Saturday
-
I can never quite understand the hatred for Stoke City, I actually quite like them. They're a proper club with good support, and somehow really manage to wind up Blues and Albion fans, which can only be a good thing. Who cares if they don't play football the way that Arsene Whinger thinks they should.
Having said that, I hope they get a proper tonking on Saturday.
3-1 to Villa.
-
With Gary Mac in charge and the reputed lack of confidence in him, my confidence levels about this game have just dipped
Really? You don't think the players will be minded to put in a good performance for Ged then given the circumstances?
-
i cant stand stoke, although i do thank them for paying for a few pints after our games due to the amount of coins they lob from the coach park...
take a draw from this tbh...
-
Despite the cup final I think they will be up for this. On 38 points, they'll want to get to 40 quickly with Arsenal and Man City still to play in the league.
2-1 Villa.
-
With the news that GMac will be in charge I'm gonna change my prediction from a win to a dodgy draw. Cannot stand the man. Thank fuck we're already safe.
-
He dropped the cup. What a fool etc.... :)
-

He speaks highly of you.
-
What the hell has McAllister done to deserve such scorn?
-
I don't get it either. At Liverpool, Houllier had Phil Thompson as his hammer to get rid of certain players, and straighten a few things out. That worked out quite well in the end as I recall. With us, he couldn't get Thompson, so he has McAllister to do the same thing. It's been well documented that certain players "comfortable" in their existence at the club don't like McAllister asking them, God forbid to do some work. Whereas others, especially the kids have thrived under the new management style. I'll take the kids and our future over, fat overpaid lazy "pros" any day.

fuck me. Off course you do.
GH is in hospital. Do keep up.
-
Our away form in the league is shocking so I'd imagine home win is the most likely outcome.
Could be a point in it for us if we carry the confidence over from last weekend.
Head says home win, heart says score draw.
All the best for the rest of the season.
All the best to Houllier too.
WD
-
Thanks mate.
-
cheers WD. You must be on cloud 9 after the weekend. I think given today's events, and the fact that we still have to 100% guarantee our safety, we'll win this one. I don't think your lot will care much, and I'm sure it will be a good day out for your fans still buzzing over the win against Bolton.
-
What the hell has McAllister done to deserve such scorn?
I don't quite understand it either. He could be in charge for the rest of the season - good luck to him. Time for him and Sid to step up to the plate.
-
We still need 2 or 3 more points to guarantee survival and you can guarantee Pulis will be sending them out to give it everything. Whether the players will have one eye on the final or not is another matter.
Young and Bent (and from the brief bits I've seen of him - Albrighton) are the type of players that can hurt us, if we can keep them relatively quiet we could do ok.
We're definitely on Cloud 9 from the Semi result but most of us haven't let it get us carried away into thinking we're going to all of a sudden start getting results on the road.
Our away performances and results haven't been there all season although our last few outings have given me a bit of encouragement.
After you lot on Saturday we've got Wolves at home Tuesday night, thats the game I've targetted for us to reach our survival target, if we get anything on Saturday it will be a bonus.
WD
-
We don't know for certain that GMac is or maybe was a problem.
He might surprise us all.
-
Thank fuck we won the last 2
It's been reported widely that GM is the issue
Still think we'll see of them non footballing thugs off on Saturday though by 3 or 4 clear goals
-
Where has it been reported that GM is the issue?

Gary Mac was a top player and professional, maybe he thought that some of the players had had it too easy and laid into them a bit.
Probably saw Dunnes man boobs in training and thought what a shower some of these players are,and he'd be right.
He might be in charge for the rest of the season,so theres no point in pissing our pants about it,and some clown bringing out a new banner.

Christ, I didn't realise that Stoke haven't taken so much as a point on the road this year. Given that we're nearly in May, that's awful.
3-1 I reckon. Bent, Young and a sub - possibly Albrighton, Gabby or Heskey.
I'd play the same side as last week, except bringing Gabby in for Heskey. Although some have commented that Emile's physical presence was useful last week.

So, no-one's gone public saying they'll think we'll lose?
Well, fuck it....I will. Just to say "I told you so to EVERYONE".
It IS Aston Villa season 2010/11 after all.
Villa 1 - Stoke 2

What a difference a couple of results make. From crying 'Houllier Out' we've progressed to 78.3% voting for a Villa home win over Stoke - with only 6.6% saying we'll lose.
Who are the 6.6%?
Why are they so miserable? Can we help them in any way? Surely it's better to live in half-assed cheery optimism than dwell in the foul shadow lands called by some - reality?
The sun will be out and at the very least it is a chance to test the media's case that the players all hate GMac - so will our lads capitulate or will they capitalise?
For me - A Villa win of any size will suffice against a well set up Stoke.
UTV and get well GH.
-

We've got previous against Stoke, innit.
-
I think we'll win 3-1 with Benty getting a couple and Makoun getting the other.
-
Despite GED sadly not being there, I will stick with my 3-1 home win prediction
-
If we win 14-0 . I think GED will retire and G-Mac get the job full time ;-o
-
I think it will be a fairly low key 2-0 win to us. :)
An enjoyable sunny day 8), we are as good as safe already and this will just confirm what we already know.
Sit back, relax, enjoy the day but by mid way through the second half we will be in a happyish but soporific mood thinking about getting home.
Almost makes you wish we were still embroiled in a finger nail biting edge of the seat roller coaster riding relegation survival dogfight. ???
-
We are not fully out of the woods yet, let's not get too blasé about this
Come on
-
Lawro has spoken
Aston Villa v Stoke
Firstly, let's hope Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier is OK after he was taken into hospital on Wednesday.
His assistant Gary McAllister will be in charge for this game, and it is a great time to play Stoke because, and I don't care what their manager Tony Pulis might say, they will have one eye on the FA Cup final. That is the way it is - and it will be very difficult for him to bring them down from the high they will be on after thrashing Bolton in their semi-final last weekend.
Since losing to Wolves in March, Villa have won two games and drawn one and they look a different team. Their front players looked a real handful last week in their victory over West Ham and I think they will have another win to celebrate here.
Prediction: 2-0
-
There are some miserable Sky stats around this game...
Aston Villa v Stoke City
In the three Premier League games against Villa where Stoke have scored, Tony Pulis' men have netted in the 90th minute.
Villa have only won one of their last seven matches against Stoke.
Villa have not won three Premier League games in succession since April 25th 2010, almost exactly a year ago.
The Villans have kept only one clean sheet in their last 11 Premier League home games.
Stoke have one win more (11) than at this point last season, but six defeats more (16)
The Potters have drawn the joint-fewest games in the Premier League this season (5 - level with Wolves)
Villa have hit just two direct free-kick shots on target this season.
Stoke have managed just 168 attempts from open play this season, fewer than any other Premier League side.
Kenwyne Jones has hit the woodwork six times this season, more than any other Premier League player.
Ashley Young has contributed 31% of Aston Villa's assists this season, only Leighton Baines at Everton has been more important.
-

They are a real never say die side.
Which is a worry with our piss poor defence.

Villa 2-1 Stokies
Jones
Bent (x2)
Heard there only bringing around 1k?

Certain win. Their players aren't boing to risk an injury now, are they?
2-0. Bent and Downing

A goal at Villa Park from Bent will be nice. He only has the one

That does'nt surprise me at all, our set pieces have been terrible all season.

Villa 1-2 Stoke
Walters and Jones scoring for them, with Bent scoring our only goal.
Not to be pessimistic, but I just got that funny feeling.

5-0 in the sun! Bent, Downing, Young (A), Gabby, Dunne.

2-0 Home win (whatever else!?).

Bent 33

It looks like he had his contract terminated in January.
-
Why terminate his contract in January rather than just let Stoke pay his wages for the remaining six months? The net result is the same, with the difference that he can't play against us.
And how on earth has this stayed hush hush until now?
Looks suspiciously like another one in a line of cock ups from the club this season.
-
If only there was some way of asking the club what has happened...
-
Why terminate his contract in January rather than just let Stoke pay his wages for the remaining six months? The net result is the same, with the difference that he can't play against us.
Only thing I can think of is that Stoke refused to pay for his wages if they took him on loan.

Or refused to have him on loan at all.
-
Honestly, so what? A fully fit John Carew 2-3 years ago was a menace on his day. That John Carew is long gone, and what's left is the broken down version that might still show up once in a while, but in reality he just can't do it anymore because his body won't let him. He's been banged up since he got to Stoke just like he was in his last few days with us. He might not even get on tomorrow.
If I sound complacent it's not meant to be. But we shouldn't make more of this than it really is. He might come on in the 2nd half, get his well deserved ovation, do a few things that make us nervous, and then that will be it. I think Carew will end up in some sunny spot in Europe when the season ends to see out his career with one last good pay day.
-
yep. if we're getting worried about john carew V.2.0.11 playing against us then we might as well jack it in
-
Come on villa party in the sunshine, lets have a few goals
-
Sunny elsewhere and very warm but thundery downpours in parts of central, southern and eastern Britain later.
Bring a mack perhaps
-
This will be dull. We always score, we always concede. Villa 13 Stoke 11.
-
Please win today Villa.
-
Having a bit of a pre match do at the Holte Hotel before the match with some Villains from London and Germany today. Should be a great day and I can not see anything other than a straight forward win for The Villa.
-
Please win today Villa.
Very nicely asked Paul. Let's hope they are listening!
-
I'm going for the polite approach, and since I will be on the east coast of England with access to very little technology I'll be relying on phone and radio to keep me in the loop!
