Ireland and Gabby on the bench? No, if that's the squad throw them in for Carew and Albrighton or Reo-Coker.

And the score's still 3-1 :).

This is basically a pre-match thread isn't it? As such, I'll wait for Legion to start one up before commenting.

Oophs... too late!

2-0 win.

Gabby always starts the season well and I will go for Ireland to score on debut.

Also a lively 20 minute cameo from Keane and Flamini waving at the fans before the game (too much to hope for?)

Friedel

L.Young
Dunne
Cuellar
Warnock

Ireland
Reo-Coker
Petrov

A.Young

Carew
Agbonlahor

Now that's a team full of strength, power, speed, creativity, tenacity and energy.

My problem with that team is that Villa Park is a hugely wide pitch, and with the 4-3-1-2 system there you risk exposing the full backs to two-on-one situations with the opposition overlapping. I'd prefer Downing or even Albrighton in for Carew, as we only really need one forward in most games.
