A Forest fan cornered me today to ask "what are Villa doing with promoting Rwanda?". He won't be the last one. What a shocking decision by the club.
To think not long ago we were proudly letting the world know about Acorns.
Congratulations to those who have got the petition off the ground. Have signed.

Unless you only wanted a couple of dozen from here signing it then it was always going to be the aim that it spreads far and wide.

That much is, undoubtedly true, Mr WithesShin. I can't remember, but I might've recommended bluesky for that very reason. Oh well: If I'm stuck a pigger in the street, by some flag-waving, pea-brained knuckle-dragger, speak kindly of me.

At least you don't have a unique name, I don't mean that in a bad way btw. Would be a lot more obvious who you were if it was Armin Tamzarian.

Or Domingo from Little Oakley.

I felt sorry for the bloke whose parents christened him Newark & Sherwood Green Party.

Can you contact the site and ask if its possible to change the name?

Done so, but might take up to a week for a reply.

Scratch that. Managed it myself. We're now "Villa Fans for Ethical Sponsorship".

It's interesting to see that the facebook membership is full of the sort of people who'd last about a week on the forum.

Yep. Just read the comments on the Rawanda petition post.  Exactly the sort of people that social media is awash with and I spend too much of my online life trying to avoid.

I honestly can’t believe our club has sold its soul for 20m quid.
Disgraceful and leaves a bitter taste for sure.

Hi. Yep it was me that shared it widely, I’m still on FB and was surprised to see I’m in loads of Villa groups I cross posted to. To be fair I thoughtlessly shared with zero context or explanation which would have helped those with a modicum of openness to think a bit, I just pasted the title of the petition and the link only.
I hadn’t really thought it through and in retrospect would have done it much more thoughtfully but I had a sense it was urgent.

I’ve not heard back from the journo on the fast article I tried to do a quote for so kinda waiting on what emerges from that.

Sorry Coop I didn’t quite register / honour your request to keep to healthier spaces but as I think others said once created the petition needs to go everywhere and anywhere.

I’m in a more sensitive spot than you as I think I’m the only person with my name in the country and have done public fundraising so have already been warned I’d put my family at risk when we travelled to a neighbouring country.

My mate had his sister kidnapped in Rw when they couldn’t find him etc, it’s all relatively terrifying. fun fun fun.

It has made me curious how much consensus there is here in opposition (wondered even if there is echo chamber at work, but like to think that there is basically a standard of intelligence and reflection here), the poll I saw on villa talk was fairly split, and on Facebook groups - where I clearly need to at least share my perspective/story to give some context - I’ve been absolutely hammered by and large.

I’m not sure how it’s best to put my story/experience/perspective out there but I will.

No, that's quite alright. Mr WithesShin was quite correct. If we want the best possible outcome for this, some shit's to be expected. And the name issue's largely moot now I've learned how to change it. I just got the wind up a bit when I read about the abuse. After all, those who parrot the word "woke" as a pejorative obviously have little understanding of its meaning, and we all know how dangerous, and unhinged many of these people are.

So sorry that you're having to endure all this. I take my hat off to you!

P.S. I still think we should stay well clear of Leon Skum's X. ;)
