Opposition to Visit Rwanda sponsorship
« on: Today at 12:00:24 AM »
There seems to be quite a consensus here, and on the youtube publicity video. Is anyone considering starting an online petition against this obscenity? If so, we need to ensure that we don't end up with several competing examples.

I haven’t seen anything, would definitely support one.

As you wish, sir....

Time to stand up and be counted, folks. Please share only in ethical places like bluesky. I don't want to be tracked by the likes of Leon Skum and his followers.

Thanks coop, Signed. That’s really well written and I probably could have taken a leaf out of some of that.

I was contacted today by a journalist asking if I was organising protests (gunnersforpeace.co.uk passed on my details).

I’m seriously pushed for time so can’t realistically take a lead but is anyone willing to get involved?
There is sadly a need to do this.

Presumably we could share a link to this thread on other forums/Xtwitter/threads/bluesky/facebook etc.

I am putting some folk in contact with each other but is anyone able to get involved?

Much appreciated
Satyin

I’m not really a social media person, but I have forwarded it to people I know and work / family whatsapp groups.

Can someone who is on Villa Talk put it on there?

Would be worth getting in touch with Villa podcasters too.

Yep podcasters will be on it, there will be a fast next day or two Athletic piece then a longer one.

We need to do our own version of
https://www.gunnersforpeace.co.uk/

The petition is a great start.

Sure we must have some snazzy website builders on here?

Happy to chip in towards hosting / domain if so.

My thanks, Satyin, for promoting this. And for the kind words. However, I can't take credit for the little essay. I simply composed a paragraph, or two, outlining the issue, then the website did the rest (the dreaded AI, I fear), leaving me to edit it where I saw fit.
Thanks again for your support, and to those signatories thus far. I know the chances of success are probably slim, but I'm sure you agree that we can't just shrug our shoulders and say "whadda y' gonna do?" Although cost, and health issues mean that it's quite some time since I visited VP, I still love my club. And, like many others, am so very sad to see it selling out in this appalling fashion.

Unless you are going to replace £20m p/a with your own contribution can I respectfully ask that you keep your protest to yourself

I think the point of a protest is to not keep it to yourself.
