Watching World Cup Breakfast on Sky. At the break they had a distorted picture of a footballer during a game and the question was “who scored this iconic World Cup goal?”

The answer was Joe Cole against Sweden in 2006. I have no memory of it at all. Iconic? The bar is low in England.

As a counter-argument, I reckon I can remember that one more than any other England World Cup goal in the last twenty years. It was brilliant.

Should be an exciting game this afternoon…….

(Well if I say it often enough, it just might happen)

I can't remember it at all.  Funny how this stuff works isn't it.

A cross is headed out of the box, Cole's about 35 yards out, he chests it up, volleys, the ball loops up and down, the keeper touches it onto the inside of the post and in.

So...Matt Lowton versus Stoke-esque

Still nothing!  My memory isn’t the best though.  I blame AI (alcohol).

Feels like the game today will either be a disaster or a turning point.  If what I’ve heard / read is true (that Congo will be another very compact low block outfit) England just need to find a way to win.  It’s unlikely they’ll come up against such a conservative opponent after this round and they do look better against more progressive sides.  So, get through and the performances could improve and maybe the results too, though a likely route including Brazil, Argentina and France looks mega tough.

My main memories of that WC for England are the Cole goal, Crouch yanking that fellas dreads and being wank at pens.

Pretty much the same as mine!

edit - although those particular penalties I think have been turned into a big sludge of all the other bad penalties.

They can start by taking some FUCKING SHOTS.

Sick of seeing teams constantly passing around the box.

Pull the trigger!

Rice back today? Talk of resting him because it's Congo is risky, better off starting Henderson if he's not fit though rather than just Anderson by himself. Spence is very average but his pace alone should give better balance on right flank and help Saka come in field more. Narrow win in 90mins id say.
