You are correct that he hasn't done anything yet, and when we finally do meet any of the favourites we might get bitten by our lack of defence, but I will also point out that although aging, it is the first time we have beaten another team ranked in the top 15 for 24 years at the World Cup. The last time was when we beat Argentina in the first match in 2002. And attacking wise, Tuchel did deliver more then we have had for the last 8 years or so. Even when we beat Iran 6-2, we barely created much more. We had almost as many shots on target against Croatia then we had just shots againt Iran.

Are these group stages maybe just a level above Nations League or friendlies in terms of how competitive they are? It was a good win but no more than that. Arguably Tuchel got away with a couple of strange selections like Stones and moving Bellingham into a midfield two could have cost him against a better team.

For all the talk of how fortunate Southgate was, that defeat to France when Kane missed the penalty was unlucky from memory.

Wasn’t Gareth Southgate’s biggest fan but I am a bit perplexed by talk in the media “Tuchel has an extra edge over Southgate”. Tuchel has done nothing yet but it’s once again Press and Media going over the top after one ok win against aging Croats🤷🏽‍♂️

Yep, everything else ignored I want Ghana to get absolutely destroyed every game and for him to be personally responsible for a good percentage of the games. I get the common argument of innocent until proven guilty and in many cases I would agree with it but his specific scenario does lean much more clearly towards no smoke without fire.

Absolutely, the praise for Tuchel after the first game was ridiculous anyway. For starters, his daft move pushing Bellingham back into a midfield two was glossed over. England were a tactical rabble last night, that's a standard PL tactical challenge to break down a limited but well organised defence. Utterly clueless effort in truth.
 
Inverted wingers and left back condensed any semblance of space left in the middle. The subs drifted into Paul Lambert v Bradford territory with Eze and Rogers in the middle of nowhere and one midfielder. Also calls into question some frankly daft squad selections, TAA & Wharton both come on last night if in the squad, no incisive passer in the team. Why were likes of Toney and Henderson brought if they weren't considered last night.

Beat Panama 5-0 and the hype train will kick off again. O'Reilly likely comes back in after a good cameo last night but I'd say Tuchel is further away now from knowing his next X1 for a competitive game than he was pre the WC. Huge worries over James form at RB, both wingers and midfield two balance seems a bit off. Does Stones come back in for Konsa for knock outs?

I thought James was atrocious last night. I’m not a huge lover of “Trent” (puke) but he’d have been a whole lot better option than James in a game crying out for creativity against a team with such limited ambition.
