Nothing wrong with being patriotic.

Strong disagree, for the reasons outlined.

Depends where you’re from, in my view.

Yes, fair. There are degrees of patriotism and circumstances in which it is more acceptable than others. At a time when "patriotism" is being used to demonise people based on their place of birth, religion and skin colour, I'd say now is not a great time. Or, if it is, argue with the racist twats first, not those who are concerned about being associated with them.

Make your mind up, 2 minutes ago anyone who was patriotic was a twat, is there now a degree of twat?

I'm getting confused. Can I support England or not? I want to know quickly as I'm trousers akimbo having a tattoo of St George killing a dragon on my perinium.
I knew I should've gone for the Super John McGinn tat on my cock. Less politically charged.

What about English flags with places in Brum on them and AVFC in the corners?

Have you got places in mind for where it's OK?

I considered my position based on a polite post from SE. There are clearly degrees of twattery but patriotism is mostly a bad and twatty thing.

If you think patriotism is good please explain why rather than just snideposting.

That’s ridiculous if someone feels patriotic it’s not wrong any more than someone who doesn’t feel patriotic is wrong

Why? I think being proud of a plot of land you happen to be born in is just as silly as being proud of being white and potentially as dangerous.

Rather than saying it's ridiculous, why not explain the merits of patriotism?

Snideposting? Calling anyone who's patriotic a twat and referring to me as Nigel Farage isn't?

Have a few days off.

I haven’t prepared a list but, to take one obvious example, I can understand and appreciate it being quite a big thing in Ukraine at the moment. If they’re still at it 50 years after winning their war I’ll be less  sympathetic.

RTC aren't being patriotic though, they're just bigots and racists. It's far too simplistic a view to equate someone being patriotic as a 'bad thing'.

Depends what you do with that patriotism. If its waving your England flag about because you're in the mood at the world cup, then it seems pretty harmless.

Scottish fans that spent time in Fenway wearing kilts and singing Flower of Scotland were being patriotic, they don't seem to be a bad thing. They are there because of the plot of land they were born in.
