Gives a chance for the youth to shine and maybe a couple of them can impress.

Sure. But that feels more like a jolly at Kidderminster or Telford type thing, then play teams like Porto closer to the start of the season. Still, doesn't really matter too much I suppose. I will rely on RCF's knowledge of Primeira Liga to let us know how many first-teamers Porto have selected and whether it might be worthwhile getting a bet on them...

I see where you are coming from. God only knows how friendlies are decided outside of the mega-bucks deals.

I can't imagine Porto or Villa are going to pay the other, so it must be mutually convenient for both of us.

Was gonna try at about quarter past. Is it supposed to be on already?

I would hope Europa League-holding, Champions League-winning, European elite-belonging opposition would charge a few bob. That apart it's probably ease of travel, standard of opposition, how far advanced they are pre-season and quality of the pitch.

Joe Gauci still plays for us? That's a thing I did not know.
