You can only see Spain or France in the final from that side of the draw, although we can't discount Donaldtino's combined meddling to help the US as much as possible.

Even Sepp Blatter thinks suspending the red card is a step too far.

Quote
"Red cards are not overturned by political phone calls," Blatter wrote on X on Monday morning., external

"They are overturned by rules, evidence and independent bodies.

"If a US President intervenes with the Fifa president - and a player is suddenly cleared before a World Cup knockout match - the question is unavoidable: Quo vadis [where are you going], Fifa?

"Football must never become a playground for political power."

Bloody hell, if even Blatter's having a word, you're definitely in the dark arts territory.

If Blatter quacks then it's a duck.

But the big issue is that it hasn't been overturned. If it was deemed not a red, there are rules in place to appeal and overturn them. But instead, something else unprecedented happened, where the red still stands as correct, but the punishment has been removed.

That is not right and proper.

You can't appeal a red card at the WC.

You can, just get Donald Trump to phone and ask for it to be cancelled.

The orange one did get it sorted.

Nice one Bellingham

https://xcancel.com/oceandream07/status/2073855871109521839

Although there was other press there being ignored as well. I suspect the Spanish was what made Bellingham stop then the press person being disabled. The journalist also ignored Konsa to call Saka...

Until now it's difficult to see beyond France, everybody else has been average at best, maybe Argentina have made easy of their games. Spain like pretty much everybody else has put in a decent performance but nothing to bet the farm on. Despite Norway beating Brazil they got smashed 4-1 by France last week.

I still expect a repeat of the 2022 World Cup Final though this time I'm not so certain Argentina will lift the cup. If England are to stand any chance they're going to need more than Kane and Bellingham showing up. I expect Gordon to start from now on but it would be nice to see Rice and Anderson live up to their reputations and fees. Saka probably now starts on the right as he remembered how to cross a ball. Pickford obviously and the current defence is okay.

I can't help feeling so many country's players are burnt out from last season and France have the deepest squad. The weather and level of traveling required each game is obviously not helping. Whilst the temperature was more than decent for England last night, you worry how long it will take the players to recover from playing at such high altitude?

Norway rested all their main players and France decided to go strong. I wouldn't use the 4-1 as a guide for any future meetup, although I suspect France to still edge it as they have more attacking players who could do something.

France will not make the final.
