I never thought I'd see it seriously suggested on here that we might get bored with the Champions League but still attend due to the fear of missing out on European finals.

haha, a long way to go until we reach that point.  But a few years ago you would think it crazy to suggest ST holders wouldn't bother with Europa group games.  Plenty didn't.

Some fans might get bored of being screwed for every penny.

Or quite simply can’t afford it.

One day in the future maybe our commercial income will increase to the levels of the likes of Tottenham. At the last reporting our commercial income was €83m, compared to Spurs €330.

Start to eat into that and there's no need to charge silly money for tickets.

The problem is that the clubs who have commercial incomes at those levels, also get matchday income of double ours or more.

Spurs do, but Chelsea don't, and Man City are only about 11% ahead of us on that.

Yes, but both Chelsea and Man City have been propelled from average club to mega club status by their owners deep pockets. They haven't had to rely on fans footing the bill.

This is going to change with Chelsea, I'd put money on it. Their new owners are in it for profit, they're not going to bankroll them like Abromovic.

I really do think, in today's climate, with Americans buying up interest in football, that imagining clubs are going to ignore a potential source of revenue they could squeeze dry is very optimistic.

I’d say there are four fundamental pillars that we need to get right.

1) Broadcast income is going great guns.

2) Matchday income - we’re not a million miles behind some of the greedy 6, and we’re investing heavily to improve that.

3) If you lump in academy sales with player trading, we’re doing well there too. If Rogers is to become this year’s Grealish/Duran (not that I want him to be) we need to do a good job of re-investing the windfall, as well as maintaining our stellar record on free transfers.

4) Commercial income - you’re right Chris - is the game changer for us.

Above all, we need to sustain a competitive wage bill and keep Emery.

Apparently we’re the 16th most valuable club in the world, and I think we’re heading up that chart.

Percy chears me up more than Dogtanian (sorry, Dogtanian, nothing personal).

Surely commercial will be improved with continued success in Europe?
