How old was Kevin McCallister and he was fine. I used to walk 4 hours each way to school every day, uphill both ways, come rain or snow, floods, earthquakes.

Kids are spoilt these days.

It is a nightmare. My 14 year old is distraught - and nothing we can do about it now. Hopefully nobody else has the same issue.

Gutted for you both, mate. It is a ridiculous rule.

While i'm assuming it's a rule that's been in place a while you'd hope there would be a bit of leeway given when it's something like a cup final that you have little notice for.

You carry on mate, the lad will get plenty of opportunities in his long life.

Jeez that's awful for you both.

What is the reason for that rule, surely if its in date its valid?

Thanks for all of your messages. It is a real nightmare but I should have checked myself what the rules are. I assumed they would be the same as Europe which is 90 days. However Turkey have their own rules.
Going to be a long couple of days hearing all the fun in Istanbul!

I've been imagining a version of the TV programme Race Across the World, where contestants have to get from Birmingham to Istanbul in time for the game. Options are limited because lots of routes are fully booked. In that programme contestants aren't allowed to fly, but there aren't any flights available within budget anyway. So it's buses, trains, taxis and ferries. Looking online (which contestants aren't allowed to do), you can get a bus from Birmingham to Bucharest, and then trains to Istanbul from there, for less than £50 in total.

Quite a few countries ask for between 90 days and sixth months validity on the passport from the date of departing the visitng country, not arrival. Various reasons are given depending on the country but essentially they want to ensure the person is not left in limbo with an out of date passport if retained in the country in any way.
