We played better in the second half but Steve Bruce would be proud of wor efforts tonight. A classic BruceBall smash and grab.

That's understating matters. For 20-30mins after half we were outstanding. Played at a great tempo. At 0-2 up, we had a number of opportunities for our forwards to finish the tie. Buendia x 2 and Rogers on edge of box came close, Ollie miscontrolled a 1 on 1. Tielemans running the show and Buendia/Watkins torching them.

They finished strong again for sure. But Emery was sitting on his hands a bit and made the wrong changes. It was blatantly obvious that Rowe was their main threat. Putting on Bailey on the right wing and moving a fatigued McGinn inside was poor.

Whilst Rowe played well last night I hope the club aren't going to throw big money around based on one performance, unlike some on here.

We took a gamble on morgan after ine game against us although it was a low transfer fee

I doubt it. We watched Guessand 30 times, for all the good it did.

We didn't sign Rogers after one game against us, especially as he did nothing in that game of note. He was probably put on Emery's radar because of monitoring the opponents ahead of a game and he then was looked at indepth. But being as we were supposedly looking at Rowe around the same time (Dec2023) and didn't sign him might point that Emery didn't see the same things in him at that time.

I think there was a long Athletic article about his early years in football, and that seemed pretty sure that the main voice behind us signing him was Mark Harrison who had him for years when he was in the West Brom academy.

Yep, I think a lot of people seem to overlook that Rogers was coached at WBA by a lot of people who are now in our academy structure.

Great scouting by Emery on Rogers but not quite the level of Brian green (rip) recommending Ollie Watkins to the club when he was at Weston super Mare?

A cracking trip and feels like I was away for 4-5 days but in reality it was only 48 hours even with the flight cancellation meaning a Friday night in Milan. It was amazing how many Villa fans I spoke to yesterday who had rescheduled flights as far away as Switzerland, France and Croatia so my 3 hour journey to Milan was easy in comparison.

Even in a small bar away from the main nightspots last night I bumped into 2 separate Villa fans who were taking the Milan option to come home. A great trip in an amazing city topped off with a good first leg result. As we all know, it’s only half time.
