Our last really big money sale bought us goals (Ings), creativity (Buendia), and assists (Bailey).

Let's hope this time we do it a bit more successfully.

Rowe, Mbaye, Soule, Gibbs White. 2 of them would do it with the midfielders we've bought in.

Gomes medical today according to Matt Maher;

He also says the Manzambi deal may be completed today.

To be fair Ings aside - that was good business.  Bailey was crucial in the first CL qualification season - Beundia was crucial in what we achieved last season

Does anyone actually think we can afford MGW, has he got a low release clause or something? Surely Forest would want massive money.?

Losing Tielemans, Digne and Onana (temporarily) is a massive hit on the squad. Adding Gomes, Manzambi and Estupinan seems like a pretty good solution, given that we still have Barkley, Bogarde and McGinn, with Hemmings as well, in the middle.
Alysson, Madjo and Mbaye (from PSG) would be excellent RMF options, with Brian also offering value upfront (as does Abraham).
Then there is the Rogers factor: if we keep him, fantastic; he will fit brilliantly into what we're doing.
If he goes, MGW would be a great addition, albeit definitely not like-for-like. Rowe or another LW would be useful, although bringing back Ramsey J would also fill the need on the left.

There will be no profit on what we sold him for.

Selling Rogers for £130m and buying MGW for £70m would leave us £21m after paying off Boro. I'm not sure what winger we'd get for that price and that's without addressing a couple of new full backs.

20% of the profit (£115m) is £23m. £130m - £23m = £107m - £70m = £37m profit.

I'm sanguine about losing Digne and to some extent Tielemans.  We've got a large group of players who'll in any case need to be replaced over the next 5 seasons or so - they're both in that group, and I think both are up the higher-earning end of it.  Tielemans in particular, I'd rather have kept on for a bit.  But so be it, probably not a bad thing to cash in now - we're in a good place as a club and will be able to attract similarly skilled reinforcements (like Manzambi, Gomes)

I'd rather we didn't lose Rogers right now.  As before, we've got some massive squad changes ahead in the coming seasons and he's a player who might be able to offer some stability to that.  Particularly as we seem to be mainly targetting much younger players (20-22 kind of range), and at 23 he could be the wise old man of that squad.  I think if we sell him, it'll be for an obscene amount of money.  He's just too valuable during this coming transition.

@slbsn

🤓 The Newcastle settlement agreement with UEFA was published yesterday which also confirms the version that Villa must be complying with (amazingly UEFA published the wrong version originally). Villa are effectively complying with the same as Newcastle but -1 on the periods.

It appears that Villa and, therefore, other clubs have more leeway than on the face of the settlement agreement (perhaps extra allowances/side agreements) because if not they’d have breached to 30 June 2026.

The Villa settlement agreement states their cap was €60m over FY25 and FY26 which they did not hit without additional allowances/compromises with UEFA. Once the warehouse and Women’s team are excluded (FY25) Villa lost over €100m for UEFA across the two years even after their substantial permitted add backs.

Therefore, caution should be applied in proclaiming teams will fail UEFA settlement agreements. We’ve also seen with Marseille that UEFA are reluctant to go through with a ban, giving teams additional years and conditions to comply.

I think it is now clear that Villa will sell Rogers before the end of FY2027 (this Summer or at the end of the season) - without it they could not justify this Summer’s spending. I don’t think it is as clear on Guimarães.
