It's all about the Top Tackle Trophy.

Well I am going to hope it's above winning the ball and allowing Morgz and Manz to run riot in front of them. We certainly won't be afraid in the middle next season.

So our midfield could be

John Gomes
John Palinha
John McGinn
John Manzambi

Is Boubacar the West African equivalent of John?

As someone pointed out previously, we've sold the best part of £50m and reduced the wage bill by £1m per week since the end of the season.  Surely that gives us some room to trade.

Still got Bailey and Guessand to move on as well...

Isnt the UEFA thing a net psotiive transfer balance?

Well, we can pick and choose who gets in the UEFA squad list. And as the UEFA reporting period is January to December, we can in theory leave someone out for the group stage, knowing we can pop them in come January for the harder fixtures.

Although one would think that our shiny new signings would be coming in partly because they want to play in the Champions League and might get the hump if they can't.

Quite. It's something Donny Malen never forgave us for and it's what his wife reminded him of when he was agonising over staying in Birmingham or leaving for Roma.

Why are people adding up a couple of signings Manz and Gomes and thinking this means we’re selling Rogers? Does no one pay any attention to the outgoings and the income we receive? Come on people this is easy maths.

We still need a right back, a left back, at least one winger/wide player, and maybe a central defender unless Cisse is oven ready.

Unless we're buying very cheap, that's going to cost a decent whack.  I think Manzambi is a signal that Rogers is going, because he looks like his replacement.

Pervis Estupiñán is viewed as a direct replacement for Lucas Digne, who is set to complete a £8m move to PSG — negotiations are advanced for Estupiñán & Villa are hopeful of securing a deal.

Dross Barkley

I think that is unfair , I would keep him

I think he's crap, lead footed, clumsy, slow...so I wouldn't.

With this latest link  I reckon we're now at:

Onana - Palhinha (loan)
Tielemans - Gomes
Digne - Estupinan
Sancho - manzambi

So all bring down the average age, lower the wage bill and don't drop much in terms of quality in the short term. Not a bad window as it stands.
Do you think Gomes can play the Tielemans roll Paul?  His passing stats are pretty grim aren't they?  Appreciate that was in a poor team, but even so...

Sorry, was on a flight, he's not a direct replacement but at previous clubs Emery prefers to have 2 ball winners in there with 3 running threats in front of them. Rogers, Alysson and now Manzambi all offer that along with a real physical presence to the team. Add in Watkins burning the legs off of defenders and, later, Madjo bullying them when they're tired and I can see us running teams into the ground.

Well, according to reports we were already looking at buying players this summer and were intent on keeping Rogers.

Our issue is with UEFA SCR which is January to December. So far in 2026 we have already sold;

Malen £21m, Barrenechea £10m, Tielemans £35m, Dobbin £9m, and Barry & Swinkels for a small figure. We also look like Digne is off for £8m.

So that's £83m of income, and three first teamer wages off the books, two of whom are amongst our highest earners. At least £35m of that is pure profit from Tielemans.

We've so far bought Alysson £9m, Madjo £10m, Abraham £18m, and Cisse £4m. That's £41m, but only £8m in 2026.

If we buy Gomes for £38m and Manzambi for £50m, only 6 months of their 5 year cost will apply in 2026. So that's £9m.

So that's an additional spend so far in 2026 of £17m, set against a profit of at least £35m (plus whatever we have made on the others), still leaves us wads of filthy cash to chuck about the place like drunken lottery winners.

I absolutely love this!

Lets go wild within reason.
