Fun fact Rashford relegated us in 2016.  Nine years later he was playing for us.  Now that’s progress.

Whilst it seems that we're about to enter a window of squad regeneration and I hope the background team are busy hoovering up much of the world's top young talent, is there a world class senior player out there in the twilight of his career who could grace the CL/PL for a couple of seasons, lured by the best manager running the best club? I'm thinking more Luc Nilis and less Robert Pires.

A quick look at contracts expiring NEXT summer so you might be able to pick them up for a few million now, once you take out the silly suggestions (Kane / Fernandes / Rodri etc), I reckon Hakan Çalhanoğlu (32, still one of the best players for Inter) is probably as good as you'd get.

Lots of players that you probably wouldn't spend loads on but could be interested going into their last year though - Pulisic, Martinelli, Ferran Torres, Ayari, Brahim Diaz, Mitoma...

Thanks Dave. That's the kind of optimism I'm looking for.

Griezmann would've been great.

I think Bowen is the other experienced player that might be more likely since we have sold a couple of the oldies.

For some reason I am not worried about us finding a midfielder, we are good at that, we struggle with right wing and right back

Feels a bit like that last week of January  '25 when we were trimming every last bit of fat from the squad, pushed five or six players out the door over the course of a few days to make room for the Rashford / Asensio / Disasi deals.

Yes, there's a decisive feel to all the activity, as though we'd switched from planning to execution.

Despite not being entirely happy with who is going I think this already makes it a much better summer than the last because we're actually getting things moving outwards in the market, which means we know what we can do ourselves. Our shit start last season was, in no small part, down to then fucking mess of a window that left us with no idea what our squad was going to look like for the season when we kicked off against Newcastle.

I saw a piece where Danny Dyer has said how loyal Bowen was and that he intends to smash up the championship next season.

To be fair with family, size of the club and money spent on him they have every chance of a quick return so imagine he will stay.
If he got them back up 1st time of asking his loyalty will mean he would be a legend there.

Shame - i thought he would be great for us.

Would definitely go after Wharton - surely we could tempt them with Guessand, Bailey etc

Garcia gone to Getafe.

It's a loan deal?

The most Getafe have ever paid is €6.5m

So, they're not going to pay much if and when they do sign him.

If a loan, it gets his £780k pa wages (all or part) off the books whilst he is in the shop window with a view to getting a fee down the line. As it stands, nobody's going to give us anything for him.

Loan with buy option, I believe.
