It always felt like this was a team that would need a refresh this summer, and that is what we are seeing happening.

Yep. Manzambi is a great start. If he plays the Youri role in midfield as an 8 rather than further forward then it makes sense for us to have gone in for him so quickly, but we still need a couple more in there. Bouba just off a MCL injury, Barkley slow and better at 10 really, got to go and buy 2 mids for me as it is so pivotal to the way Emery operates.

Add in the others out, I don’t think we need another striker with Tammy, Ollie and Madjo, but we certainly need 2 wide options.

I reckon the 2nd midfielder will be a loan to cover Onana being out. Emery is apparently a massive fan of Hemmings so I suspect he'll slowly replace Barkley over the season.

For the same reason I can see us only getting 1 winger and leaving space for Alysson and Burrowes.

Given the limits of the UEFA squad it makes sense to lean on a few kids to bulk things out as well.

Very sorry if Youri has gone
His absence coincided with some of our worst spells
I fucking hate the red scum and can not picture him wearing their rags, I only wish him non life threatening injuries but lots of them.
You have to think that Unai and the brains trust had done a risk analysis on who we could possibly lose and have some plans in place.
Last seasons recruitment was dreadful so lets hope for better.
Anyway in Unai I trust
Great managers break down and rebuild great teams
Lets hope thats what we have in front of us.

I understand we've sold Barrenechea for around £12m. Dobbin for £9m and Barry around £5m. So that's raised around £26m plus Tielemans £35m and Digne £9m. So, around £70m total so far. We'll need a new LB, RB, Midfielder,  Winger, Striker minimum. Thoughts?
Malen's fee is also to be taken into account (but only a year and a half of amortisation off his purchase price).

Yes and given the SCR issue is the main one, add in the value of Onana which now drops out of the registered Champs League squad.

Yep and there is plenty of risk, but it’s something that has to happen.

Apparently, Southampton want to give us £9m for Lewis Dobbin.

All true and i like the positivity, but Unai virtually always played Youri, I doubt it was part of a planned refresh for him to go.

Can’t remember, off the top of my head, where he was last season, but it went really well so it could be a very good buy for them

I would also doubt that, he was a main stay for Unai, can't rely on Kamara, pushing him anymore than half a season is a massive risk, Onana, has to be thought of as mainly injured but occasionally fit. Think Unai will be very uncomfortable with this.

No, but on the other hand he hasn’t signed a new deal and we would been aware of the release clause so it’d be odd if we hadn’t factored into plans, even if it wasn’t a desired outcome.

Why not? He's completely forgettable and at best we'll break-even on his amortisation.

The Joaquin Seys link sounds interesting. I’d never heard of him, but 21-year LB who was in the Belgian WC squad.

He came on for 20 mins of Yamal running at home as I remember….not a fair 20 mins to judge him on :-)
