I don't know why they all don't want to play for one of the Istanbul clubs. It's one of the best cities on the planet, they pay you handsomely and it's proper, intense football. I don't see a downside.

If, and it's a big if, there's any truth in this, then we most certainly have something significant lined up.

They'll be huge boots to fill, as Watkins is key to how we play.

Ollie Watkins is the subject of strong interest from Fenerbahçe — they are prepared to give him a huge pay rise, though the offer would also put him in a strong negotiating position for future contract talks.

What I could find was that they hadn't spoken to Villa and even the reports felt it was massively unlikely it would happen.

His contract is up in two years, that's when Villa like to renegotiate them. It makes sense that his agent has got other offers on the table that prove his worth.

With the success of the Brighton/Bournemouth everyone is trying to pull this trick. Newcastle are in this market and so are Man Yoo. The value in a market is not following the herd, which means I wonder if we continue to go for the oldies.

Hmmm scratchy face emoji.  Has a club had sustained success using this approach?

The only time I can think of, is the '91 Washington Redskins. So probably not the best strat

Oakland Raiders in about 2002 got to the Super Bowl.

Players like Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, Rich Gannon, Bill Romanowski and Rod Woodson. Full of old fogies.

Clubs pretty much always speak to players/agents before contacting their current club nowadays.

I’m sure they are. But the key point is what the club would be prepared to sell for.

Watkins is one of the few players I’d be happy to let run his contract down. I wouldn’t offer him another one because of his age and I wouldn’t want to sell him this summer. So unless someone offers us silly money (£60m+) I’d just stick tight.

Agreed. He can go to Turkey in 2 years’ time with our blessing.

Our leading goalscorer, who who cost a hell of a lot more to replace than we would get for him, he has a few more years to go with us.

Yep.  Think people are underestimating how difficult (and expensive) it'll be to replace Ollie.

Then surely we won't sell him, if we can't replace him.

Yes H. Kane is coming in.
