I think he would've liked to have joined us permanently after promotion but I'm not sure that would've been the best move for either party, at the time.

Chelsea had a transfer ban so he stayed there.

Yeah, I couldn't remember the details (as Dave W has clearly shown) so I was trying to re-word 'he didn't think we were his best bet at the time, which I can respect' without people responding 'we didn't even bid for him, dickhead'.
