Yep, "Trialist" is still the most common surname in friendlies during pre-season. He just can't play anything competitive.

You can have trialists play in friendlies, so I don’t think you have to be registered to play.

Unless I've misunderstood we can't even register him as our player at the moment - so if we can't register him as our player, he's not really ours to lend elsewhere.
