We complain about the spending constraints we are under but we did some dreadful business in the last transfer window. Between them Alysson and Brian Madja cost us about £20m. One of them seems to have vanished, the other isn't even eligible to play until next January. And let Malen go just when he was showing how good he could be.
Malen didn't want to be here. Wish him all the best, but if he thinks he can do better elsewhere then there should be no argument.
Sort of right, I guess, in that he was happy being at Aston Villa, but he was not particularly happy not playing (esp in a World Cup year), and not getting many starts despite having a good scoring record for his minutes on the pitch. He wanted to play more, and we couldn't give that to him.
I would describe his move as 'amicable'. It's a shame, but I certainly didn't get any sort of "I'm too good for Villa" vibes from him, just "I need to be playing more, and Villa don't rate me as a regular starter".
