...it's hard to escape the impression under Emery that we do spend a lot of time in matches conserving energy and resting in possession.

I think this sort of thing is the practical outworking of Emery's years of experience dealing with Europe - while teams like Newcastle may have a more blockbuster style, Emery plays a longer game... in terms of a system that conserves energy, but also consciously targeting versatile players to make up the squad, and in rotation of starting players during within congested weeks.

The end goal of which is to be in the hunt in May, not just November.

As expected, Leeds was horrible and Wolves will be worse.

It’s not about Leeds being horrible - it’s us playing horribly. If we continue to play like this we’re not going to win many games.

It's nothing to do with spirit, it's happening. Like it always does to us.

You were criticised a abit but you look to be spot  on. We seem to be making a utter mess of it and hard on ourselves.

If these dreadful performances  continue i dont see how we finish top 5. It has to improve  asap. Im certain manure will fonosh above us. But as ling as we finish top 5 it dont matter

Who has said Leeds are horrible ?
I said games against Leeds and wolves are horrible games.
We knew Leeds would be in our faces, giving us no time all over the pitch, and so it proved to be.
Wolves raise their game massively against us, it will be their last hurrah and chance to fuck us over before they go down. Their game against Arsenal proved they have some fight in them.
I think we will lose of Friday, and that’s not being defeatist. I have seen this film far, far too many times and know the plot.

Probably criticised because quite clearly, it doesn’t always happen to us. I pointed to a recent example when it didn’t. And yet you agree that it does. Always.

Doesnt it? We blew it last season vs manure when we needed a point, ans this season we seem to be falling apart at the worst time.

Our home form has gone from being a fortress to a shed in last month

Chelsea just took 2 points from Leeds and Burnley at home.

Last season we ended the season W8 D0 L2, only ManC matched that.

It's bollocks that it always happens to us.

We hardly did a Forest did we. Fucking hell it's like we're 6 points adrift of safety rather that 9 clear in the CL.

We were 9th this time last season, 39 points from 26 games. We did a fantastic job to get it to the last day.
So what always happens to us under Unai is

Is a ridiculous run to get into Europe
Champions League
An amazing run to get Europa and a gnats chuff from CL
3rd, 9 points clear.

How the smeg is that "it always happens to us"?

I wish we could spend what we like, much like I wish Donnarumma was an inch shorter. I never thought we'd ever really get close to winning the European Cup. But I think we were a Yuri header away from a tidal wave of additional momentum against PSG. Much like I wish we could have dropped £100m on a couple of players in January to see us over the line the league.

Maybe one day. Not this season though.

Doesnt it?

I realise 23/24 is a long, looooong time ago.

But I’d hope that last season’s Champions League campaign is more than a distant memory.

Unquestionably  we are doing better in the league thatast season im not going to argue that. For me its more concern about recent performances especially  at home. We have been very strong at home yet now shit teams like Everton  come to villa park  and beat us
