Watching Gala-Juve, I can see why we get linked to Yilmaz and Sara. McKennie looks like he can play anywhere and made one of their goals.

Whenever I hear McKennie I always think of Leeds fans chanting 'you fat bastard' at him. While he played for Leeds.

Did you mean Yildiz? Not heard us been linked with him, unfortunately he’ll go to a supposedly bigger club.

Juve were shocking second half.  So bad it should give us hope that we could sign Yildiz.  We must be one of the most upwardly mobile clubs around, despite everything.

^^ Harsh on Buendia and his 7 goals and 5 assists.

Maybe a bit harsh, but he's a player that we'd moved on from, yet have had to bring back and rely on quite heavily due to our situation.

but you've got the timeline wrong. He was back in the mix and playing before Sancho and Elliott even joined so we didn't 'bring him back' because they were shit.

Wasn't necessarily following that timeline.  Buendia had been moved on, but then had to be brought back and has featured heavily.  He's probably played more because the three brought in after him haven't really worked out.

I like Emi and think he's a good player at a certain level, but I don't think he's someone we need to be relying on to start regularly.

According to Emery, Emi wasn’t moved on, he was sent away to regain his fitness,

Pretty much everywhere suggested that Leverkusen could have bought him for 20m as part of the loan deal, they just chose not to.

So that suggests that moving him on wasn't something we were desperate to stop from happening.

Yes, but he was back with us months before we signed Sancho and Elliott, played a big part in pre-season and had played against Brentford and Palace.

My argument isn't about anything else other than the idea that he was bought back in because the signings in the summer were shit, that just isn't supported by events.

I think we were happy to let 1 of our players who play primarily on the left leave during the summer and we had better offers for JJ.

In truth I think we wanted to sell 4-5 players in the summer (so Buendia/JJ, Bailey, Emi and 1-2 more). I think the plan was to bring in £150m+ from it and then sign younger players to fill out the squad but with the first choice 11 not changing too much initially. Alysson is a nod towards the sort of work I think we were looking at, as was Canvot who obviously ended up at Palace instead. I think they ideally wanted to have 18-23 year olds as the backup for almost everyone with just a few older heads (Bizot, Mings, Barkley) in there as well.
